Went here for Memorial Day weekend 2022 with the family last minute and they were able to accommodate us in a large table. The food was great and even had Gluten free options for me! My adult children do not like seafood, odd I know.. so they go with Chicken tenders and hamburgers .. so for them it was not so great. I guess you get what you ask for in this case - which should be seafood. ;-) Service was great and for most of us the dinner plates were great. Cost wise is a bit more then the other ones in town but again it was nice. read more

went to hobbs harborside twice last year and the lobster pie was horrible. they left it in the oven too long both times and completely dried out both times. My wife's meal the potatoes were so overcooked it was inedible. I complainedd to the waiter and someone from the front desk came over and didnt apologize or comp the meal. never going back . Our 2nd time here are we loved it even more than the first time. The staff took ever precaution to provide a safe dining experience amidst COVID-19. The meal was excellent. Sorry it was so good I forgot to take a picture. Lazy Lobster is the way to go, price was reasonable and the amount of food was great for the price. What a nice seafood restaurant right near the water. We went early to avoid the big crowded we heard about that come later. I was intrigued by the lobster mac n cheese, which had a nice cheesy crust on top and a bunch of big chunks of lobster meat. The inner cheese was nice and creamy. There is a broiled dish called the seafood platter and a fried dish called the seafood sampler (or other way around?) and that was a little confusing since it's so similar and one member of my party wanted one and one wanted the other. Both were very content with their dishes, but I would recommend the broiled because it's such a large portion and comes with veggies at least you can be slightly healthier. There are a bunch of big windows to give you a good view outside. There is also plenty of parking. It's a little off the beaten path but worth the visit. read more

We had a nice dinner here with friends. They are doing a great job during covid to keep everything safe and clean. We sat outside under a tent on a picnic table. The table and menus felt clean and they had a high chair available for our baby. The service we got from Ryan was great. Very friendly and helpful with anything we needed or any questions. We had tried to call in an order but got no answer--part of our group went to order in-person and was told they don't do takeout after 6. The owner very kindly accommodated us. I hate writing bad reviews but can't believe the awful experience we had at Hobbs last night. We've been coming to Hobbs since it opened, and before that when it was Lord's, going back at least 30 years now. Unfortunately, we'll never go again after last night. We had a party of nine for our annual family reunion and were told the wait would be an hour, to an hour and a half. We were told there was only one table for nine in the restaurant (how is that even possible?) and a party had just been seated at it. Ok, so we decided to wait on the patio and enjoy a few drinks. After almost two hours, the hostess called us and said "the other party of nine just isn't moving and we have no idea how much longer they'll be. You can keep waiting for however long or we can split you into two tables that are *kind of* next together but have different servers. That's the best we can do." We reluctantly chose the two tables since it was almost 8pm and the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. After being seated, we noticed we were next to the other party of nine. Turns out it was a table for 8 with an extra chair added. And after we were seated for five minutes, and rushed to order drinks and food at the same time because the kitchen was closing soon, the other party got up and left. No one bothered to ask if we wanted to relocate to that table to sit together, and it just sat empty the rest of the night. The manager, Tracy, was awful and shouldn't be working in any type of service capacity if what we experienced is the norm. When we were seated and mentioned we weren't happy with the experience so far, Tracy actually said "I'm not sure what your problem is, we did what you asked for so I'm not sure what you want me to do." Well Tracy, you actually didn't do what we asked; we asked for a table together for all nine of us! We only took the second option after two hours of waiting and because you couldn't tell when the larger table would be open (which subsequently opened up a few minutes after we were seated). Had we known we could have waited five more minutes ti all sit together, we'd have waited. That was the problem, Tracy. Somehow though, Tracy couldn't grasp any of this and just threw up her hands and yelled "what can I do to make you happy?" How about comp us desserts or something? She said nope, the best she could do is comp us one dessert per table. Are you serious? Tracy, you're the manager. You could do better, but you were annoyed and clearly incompetent. At that point, we were so disgusted and just wanted her to go away. That was the one thing she seemed to get right, since she checked in with every other table in our section when they got their meals, and avoided ours. For one of our tables, the food came out ten minutes before the other, so we didn't even get to eat our meals together. At that point we just wanted to eat and leave as fast as possible. One of the shore dinners had a red hair perched on top of the lobster. At this point we just shrugged it off and didn't complain... it was just another insult on top of everything else. As we were leaving we walked by Tracy at the hostess table. We mentioned that there was a hair in one of the meals but we didn't bother to complain and it was overall a disappointing night. Her response? "Thanks for not complaining." Classy response, Tracy! This had to be a joke: no one in a service capacity as MANAGER would ever respond that way. She's either quite new to the role and needs serious training, or maybe a member of the owners family and not held accountable for her terrible service and attitude. Anyway, my advice is to avoid this establishment if you're looking for a nice, quiet, relaxing experience and or if you want to feel like a valued customer. You won't get that at Hobbs. And it wasn't worth the $600+ bill, that's for sure. read more

We've eaten at Hobbs several times each year when we return to the area. This time we were a little disappointed. The fish and chips were just so so, the fish was oddly sized and the coating just not very good. My guy said it was very bland. It was much better last year. Their clam chowder has no thickness to it, a nod to gluten free diners, the waitress said. It was runny--basically like water, clam juice and melted butter combined. Plenty of clam pieces in it, just too watery. The baby wedge salad was excellent, but very little dressing served with it, had to ask for more, which they provided. read more

Fun place to visit with stellar views. If you come to Maine visiting Hobbs is the Maine restaurant you want to visit. Overlooking the harbor in Wells you can sit outside and have a cocktail or sit inside at the bar. It's always busy and the staff are friendly. From fried food to a few healthier alternatives our favorites are the shrimp cocktail and seafood chowdah. We are local so are lucky to go when we feel like it. Lunches are not as busy so a nice time to go. While it closes for the winter mark your calendars for the spring reopening. When Hobbs opens spring is here! read more

What a great place to have a spectacular dinner, drinks and a wonderful view. The view of the moon coming up is so special. The staff at the bar was nice and peasant but our waiter Wayne from Maine (really from Ocho Rios, Jamaica). He was a real great waiter, Very knowledgeable and had great suggestions. The food was quick to come out but how delicious it was ! The chowder was full of clams and not potato! The Shore Dinner was fantastic! Everything about it was perfect! We enjoyed our meals & drinks here tonight but beware: this restaurant charges you extra even though THE MENU CLEARLY STATES THAT EACH ENTREE INCLUDES TWO SIDES. Our server even prompted us to order two sides with each entree. Imagine our surprise when each side appeared as an EXTRA CHARGE on our bill! The restaurant was packed (we waited about 50 minutes for a table). So do the math - every table in this busy restaurant was overcharged for these "included" sides. This was approximately an extra $7 per person to our $35+ lobster dinners so imagine a table of 10 paying an extra $70! We pointed this out to our server who replied that this was their policy. We asked to speak to a manager but, instead, the charges were removed from our bill. That's fine for our table but what about all the other customers who, according to the policy, were overcharged? I ordered the special of the day which was swordfish with crab meat on top in some sort of lemon butter sauce. Amazing flavor, however my fish was very undercooked. I asked the waitress if that was how it was normally served and she wasn't sure so she had me cut a tiny piece to show the chef. Then he forgot a cocktail I had ordered, and when asked about it, he pretended that it was still coming, even though it was obvious he hadn't put in for it because everyone else had received their drinks. We were passing through Maine on a trip and came across this restaurant. The staff was so friendly and the view from almost every seat in the restaurant is beautifully by the water. I thought the prices were very reasonable for high quality seafood. First...as promised, Ainsley (our waitress) - YOU get 5 stars. You were attentive, helpful, and very nice, thank you! Wife liked her lobster roll very much, and I concur (tasted a bit) - 4 stars for that. My so-called crab roll was at BEST "suspect". The roll (bread) was very good, but I've been eating crab for most of my 60 years, and what was on that roll was NOT crab. I felt ripped off, but my wife was having such a great time that I kept my mouth shut and ate the fresh but utterly tasteless mass of what could have only been pollock, which was also a weird pink color. Not keeping my mouth shut here - the sandwich was a mean joke at $18. I almost feel like some kitchen worker cooked up a scheme to steal crab meat and substitute the cheap tasteless stuff in the customers' meals, as the place seems to overall be well-run. 2 stars for my meal. The dining area we were seated in was sanitary, as the law requires, but was plainer than a high school cafeteria. There is a nicer room that we didn't get seated in. Somewhat nice view that many land-lubbers would go ga-ga over, but a small harbor is a small harbor to me - a parking lot for little boats. 3 stars. I won't be back (probably wouldn't anyway - I AM from NJ after all - but even if I find myself in this neck of the woods again, I can't trust that I'll get a good meal.) My overall assessment is that this one's a coin-toss. To be fair, I think there's a good chance you'll enjoy eating here if you don't order the "crab" roll. read more

Omg! Thanks Billy for taking our party of 10 at 6pm with just a very short wait. It was pouring outside so it was great that we were able to get seated fairly quickly. The crabmeat stuffed mushrooms were amazing with a light sprinkle of bread crumbs and I loved the slight wine taste. The lobster Mac and Cheese was loaded with lobster. It was a great portion and I loved the light sprinkling of bread crumbs. The lobster dinner and stuffed lobster were great. The corn was sweet and crunchy too. And the fingerling potatoes especially the purple ones I dipped In drawn butter.....delish! I tasted some of the lobster artichoke dip and really liked that as well. Overall a lovely dinner.
