We came here for a work function and the service, the menu and the decor were all pretty top notch. The wife and I both loved what we had to eat as it is sometimes tough going into a steakhouse as a vegan/vegetarian but the waiter and the staff accommodated very well and made our day even though we had about 15 people in the party so as a server, that can be difficult. The only drawback is the lines to wait to get in. I know we were a larger party but there were a TON of people waiting in the waiting area but also had the ability to hit the bar and have a cocktail while waiting which makes it less lengthy. We will definitely be back to this establishment next time just the two of us to get the "date" experience. read more

I was so impressed with this place! The only thing that is touch is they don't take reservations so you have to go put your name in but they have lots of spots to sit while you wait for your table. We went around 7pm on a Saturday in the winter and we only had to wait around 25mins. We got seated and our server was great! She was quick and friendly. We got an app and it came out really fast. The food is good, the "No Share" policy is stupid. I'm carnivore and my wife eats the sides. She is petite so ordering for her is a waste of time and money. Also, the waitress is very slow and took way too long to ask me if I wanted another drink. So she can bag my leftovers and my wife will enjoy later. Instead of ordering another $12 beer... Despite it taking time to be acknowledged at our table we had a fantastic time! Food was delicious as always. It is Simplistic which is what I appreciate. You don't have to do anything crazy with steak, keep it simple and let the cut of meat shine! Due to it being spring it was busy but not the usual crazy busy with allowed us to appreciate the dinner more. I loved that we were sat upstairs it is just so much nicer in my opinion. I was very disappointed with my recent visit to The Steakhouse in Wells. The fact that they do not take reservations creates ridiculously long lines, which is a major turnoff. Many of their guests are older and are forced to stand outside for extended periods just to get in. Once seated, the service was no better. Our server, Ben, was unfamiliar with basic ingredients in several dishes and had to leave the table to ask someone else each time we had a question. That lack of knowledge is unacceptable in a restaurant of this type. On top of that, we had to wait more than once just to get refills, to-go boxes, and a bag, things that should be simple and prompt. Overall, the poor organization, lack of staff training, and long, inconvenient wait times left us very underwhelmed. Definitely not worth the hype. read more

This past summer was our second visit to The Steakhouse. Crazy wait times, but solid food. I started with the French onion soup, which was flavorful and filling. I had the ribeye with the "house potato" and mixed veggies. I wasn't really a fan of the house potato. I can't really explain it. Sort of like a twice baked potato, but pretty bland. Veggies were nice and steaks were cooked to our liking. Wait time for food was also pretty long, but the place was packed and I give the servers alot of credit as there is a whole second floor of seating that they need to carry the food up to. They must be exhausted at the end of their shifts. We will continue to visit when we are in the area. read more

I don't understand the 3.5 stars overall score. I have dined here throughout the years and am always treated well. Service is outstanding. Value for the food is off the charts both meat and seafood. For our last dinner during our Ogunquit vacation, we went to The Steakhouse after hearing it was one of the top 10 steakhouses in New England and number 1 in Maine. We waited about an hour to be seated, but once we got to the table, the food came out quickly and our server took great care of us. I was really craving cheese for an appetizer, so I had the mozzarella sticks, and the marinara sauce was pretty basic, but I wouldn't expect that to be the speciality of a steakhouse. My husband enjoyed his French onion soup and the A5 Wagyu Ribeye special, and since I had already done a steak dinner earlier on the vacation, I opted for the unique chicken scampi. On Saturday Sept 27 my wife stopped in for dinner. My steak was tough and barely able to chew it. When our server finally showed back at our table to see how we were doing 20 minutes after delivering our dinners. I told her about my dissatisfaction with the steak. I asked her to try to cut it she refused . She took it back to the manager, he said he could cut it and I had to pay for it, which I did and tipped the server. The Steakhouse is our favorite restaurant in Wells. Their speciality is steak of course, yet they also serve exceptional seafood, chicken and ribs, too. My husband had the steak tips with stuffed shrimp and I dined on the steak tips with a stuffed lobster tail. Our steaks were prepared as requested and the Gorgonzola butter that accompanied the steak was melt in your mouth good. The shrimp and lobster tail were perfectly prepared and complimented our steaks beautifully. There are several side offerings to choose from. My husband and I both ordered a tossed salad and the cottage cheese with a pear half. They are generous with their side portions and are made with high quality ingredients. If I could give 10 stars I would literally give 10 stars. There will be a line, especially if you're trying to go right on time to avoid the crowd, you're going to run into a crowd. However, once you get in it goes pretty quickly and they sit you down very quickly once you wait. While you are outside, there are games like connect four and cornhole for your kids. Our service was absolutely outstanding and I made sure to tell her that. She knew it was our first time and she was very friendly. She gave us all her recommendations and she was super nice to my kids. She knew every answer to every question. The place is absolutely gorgeous and makes you feel like You are at a barn wedding which I love. It's nice lighting and the whole place is just gorgeous and runs like a really well oil machine. Going to the food. I think I ate so much food. I got the fried mushrooms and they were delicious. Perfectly crisp and good inside. I also had virgin mudslides which was my favorite. I love their mocktail options. More places should have that. My son got chicken fingers and fries which were delicious. I got the teriyaki steak. It was a little overdone. That was the only complaint I had because it was a little char on the outside however it was still very delicious. My mom had the country steak and she thought it was delicious with the gravy. We've been several times and The Steakhouse always delivers. First come, first serve and no reservations so be ready to wait but they have 2 1/2 bars to keep you limber. French onion soup and caesar salad are solid starters. So much parmesan! Onion rings are unreasonably good. Excellent batter & fry, you'd think you were at a fried seafood place. Sirloin is good. Filet is always a safe bet. Boneless ribeye was meh but their "chef signature cut" rotating selection bone-in ribeye was phenomenal. Perfecf mid rare cook, nice crust. Best steak I've ever had that wasn't $75+ Always go surf and turf. Baked stuff shrimp was also unexpectedly good. BBQ beans side are loaded with meat and delicious. Apple sauce is straight up apple pie filling. Picking only 2 sides is IMPOSSIBLE. Even the duck, you can't go wrong (except maybe the spaghetti and meat sauce...) Best of all? Our waitress even put a candle in my peanut butter pie for our anniversary. The steak was cooked perfect, my husband said it was the best chopped steak he's ever had, and my asparagus was probably the best I've ever had. Believe the hype, if you like steak, this place is a must! There is always a wait, but it's for good reason. Tonight we arrived around 5:30 and had a half hour wait. Had a great birthday dinner last night at the Steakhouse in Wells! The barn like dining room was cozy and Tiffany, our alert waitperson was attentive, friendly, and spot on with timing. The rolls were appropriate dinner rolls served hot with butter. Then followed the salads, which were on the larger side and the homemade blue cheese dressing was full of blue cheese flavor and not too vinegar-y. The steaks, a ribeye and filet mignon, were juicy and cooked a perfect medium rare. My husband's ribeye was very flavorful and my filet mignon tender and delicious. The blue cheese butter for the steaks was yummy and a fun addition, but not required because the steaks themselves were as mentioned, flavorful. The baked potatoes with butter and sour cream were as they should be, hot and tasty. We polished the dinner off splitting a bread pudding served with a sauce and beautifully dense whipped cream. The price was in line, and all in all, it was a very satisfying meal and experience. read more

This place tries to be the old Hilltop Steakhouse in Saugus, MA in the 1970s and 1980s glory days. All the steaks are already cooked to medium rare. If you want it medium or higher, they throw it back on the grill. The prices are very high for what you get, the service is spotty and with an attitude. The lines are unreasonably long for no good reason. Go eat somewhere else and get more for your money and don't waste your time in line. read more

My only complaint (which we knew in advance) is SO much of this menu is "market price." Not just seafood, but most of the steaks as well. I don't care for that and have never been to a steakhouse, no matter how upscale, that had SO many items listed as "market price." Those prices are never divulged and noted day to day. I'm sure if we asked for prices, they would have told us. But asking felt tacky and not knowing just bothered me. Perhaps they assume that, if you're dining at a steakhouse, that price is no object. But I find it distasteful to not keep your guests in the know. IMO, they should offer a daily market price menu (just one per table). Strolled in at 4:30pm on a random Wednesday night, and shortly after we arrived, the wait began. We were greeted & seated promptly, and our waitress stopped by within minutes. We had perused the menu ahead of time, and mostly knew what we wanted. We started with a French Onion soup, which was good. My wife ordered the Teriyaki steak tips, which was strip steak cut up; they had good flavor, but a different texture/consistency than I think of for steak tips. I ordered the ribeye - nice thick cut, plenty of marbling. Not as tender as ribeye often is, but good "home cooking" style/cut. We finished with the flourless chocolate torte, and a small bowl of sea-salt caramel gelato. Service was great, couldn't have asked for a better waitress. Service was timed perfectly, a few minutes between each course. They have a large menu, with options to suit nearly everyone. We both enjoyed the soup starter and mains, as well as desert. Prices were reasonable. I had heard really great things about this place, so it fell a bit short of expectations as a result, but still a great local steakhouse, worth trying if you're in the area, right as they open (or if ya don't mind waiting); I'm not sure it'd be worth waiting an hour+ during peak times though. read more

It had a lot of lobster in it but the broth was literally the butter you would dip it in with some cream. One person got the lobster pie and it just tasted bad. The wine sauce was not cooked enough and tasted like white wine. And was cold. The seafood pie was bland. I got a steak which was cooked well . This is my honest review, and sometimes I feel badly about the things I have to write. I was super pumped to try this place, as I've always heard wonderful things. We went early and didn't have to wait and we were seated right away, near the windows facing route one south. The waiter was wonderful and helpful and didn't miss a beat. I ordered the "dole whip" frozen beverage. The sound of it was very nice, but when I got it, it was very bland and had little to no taste. That was a bummer, frozen beverages aren't cheap. Then we ordered dinner. I got a 10oz New York strip (28.99) that said MKT on the menu. My partner got a 10 oz strip plus scallops and his meal was 50$.... It was okay but not worth 50$. The prices when you got out to eat today are outrageous. It would be one thing if it was worth it, and it actually cost them that much. As a diner I do understand that I chose to go out for dinner, I'm just saying. We then finished with a Maine blueberry cobbler. Very very good. The meal was good, but not great. Wow wow and more wow. Literally the last thing on my mind after returning to the Maine Coast and spending a day at the beach after COVID was going to a steakhouse. As we initially drove by my sister mentioned they had never managed to get in. We gave it a shot at 4 PM and enjoyed drinks during the less than 20 minute projected wait. The venue itself is unassuming, unimpressive and curious from the front. The parking lot, which needs a wee bit of work here and there will be full. Look for a space. The rear hosts an awesome indoor and outdoor bar with a rock solid and extensive craft beer and hand crafted drink menu. The mixed drinks are off the hook. The prices on the menu floored me. In comparison to what I'm used to paying, they were "vending machine" prices. The food was outstanding, the value and experience exceptional, and the lines that deterred my sister (she is not the wait in a long line type) and her husband from checking it out explained. All agreed following our sumptuous repast that in the future, a wait - with excellent drinks - is well worth it. An added bonus for those who remember the legendary Hilltop - the call out is only missing Sioux City - the voice, sound and feel is otherwise perfect. The food is far better than the Hilltop ever offered. The decor was spacious, buzzing, comfortable and welcoming. The excellent, friendly and competent staff more so. Starting off, the bread was excellent. The salad was fresh, crisp and exceptional because of what tasted like home made dressing. As hard as we tried not to eat it, we could not resist. The steak was flavorful and cooked to order and the baked lobster not dried out and tasting as it should. The stuffing was perfectly applied New England style. The lobster was tail only. Normally I prefer the body. Today I did not care one tiny bit that's how good the food was . All I can say is that it was excellent and such exceptional bargain. They won't listen to you or grant you any compensation no matter how uneatable your meal is. Managers treat you as if you don't know what you're talking about or have no opinion.
