I was disappointed by the appearance, condition and taste of my salmon taco entree. It arrived in a bowl with a large handful of tortilla chips (no salsa). The two tacos were encased in cold, uncooked corn tortillas, filled with a mango/cabbage slaw and small fillet in each. No sides. No salsa. Just an overabundance of tortilla product. (about 70% of the 'dish'.) The salmon and slaw were fine, but I wish there was more slaw or some other veggie or fruit to balance this dish out and satisfy my hunger. I was a loyal customer of Hobee's for over 35 years, until I "won" their SuperBowl contest. At first, my family and I were sooo excited to learn that we would get 49 free meals over the next year at Hobee's! We can't afford to go out for breakfast all the time, and Hobee's is a little on the high end of the price range. Then, the package came... - There were a confusing array of coupons with overlapping dates. - I took my family of four to Hobee's, and when we took out three coupons, *all within Hobee's eligible dates*, they told us we could only use one coupon at a time. So, effectively, if I want to take my family, my "winnings" are now essentially "Buy 3, get the 4th one free." Frankly, that sounds like an offer that you would print in the newspaper and give to anyone. Of course, our family joked about breaking up and sitting at different tables, pretending to not know each other. Sorry, Hobee's. I am not going to dine at your restaurant, three times this week, BY MYSELF, in order to get any value out of the contest I "won." I am also not going to bring my family there and spend more buying 3 entrees as I would buying ALL 4 in another restaurant (like Rick's in Los Altos! Yum!) I am not asking anyone to feel sorry for me. After all, I could have given them away to friends who could use them one at a time. What made me upset was that this "contest" turned out to be a blatant money-grab from a restaurant that I have loved and trusted for most of my lifetime. In the end, we walked out, and I returned all 49 coupons to the waitress at the Sunnyvale restaurant, and asked for Hobee's president Camille Chijate to give me a call so I can explain why I am upset. Well, it's two weeks later, and not surprisingly, nothing has happened, so it's time to air this publicly. It's a shame that Hobee's will lose a loyal customer over this, but hopefully there is a lesson in this for them. read more

Got the BDBIT ($6.75) which is the best bang for your buck. It comes with 2 eggs (cooked any style you want) and hashbrowns as well as their infamous blueberry coffee cake. It's a simple meal for a great price. The food is mediocre...I just come for their blueberry coffee cake which I've grown up eating. I tried the pumpkin coffee cake and realized you should just stick with their blueberry one. Service was average. Plenty of parking. Had to wait about 5 minutes on a Sunday late morning. read more

I love Hobee's Restaurant. I have been going here for years so I'm pretty biased. My go to is the Huevos Rancheros with a slice of their awesome coffee cake. During my recent visit, I noticed that they had changed the look of the menu and added some new items. I ended up getting their breakfast burrito with chorizo which was one of the new menu options. I liked that I got the green salsa and avocado with the burrito. It was a tasty, filling burrito. The service was good and overall an awesome experience. read more

I don't go to Hobee's very often, but I'm always pleased with my decision when I do. The food is solid: the portions are large, pleasantly arranged, and tasty. The most recent time I was there, I got the Best Darn Breakfast in Town (BDBIT), which comes with two eggs, hash browns, and either coffeecake or toast (go for the coffeecake!). I asked for some cheese to go over my eggs, which the waiter cheerfully brought me and didn't even charge me! My friend got the De Anza Browns, which from what I can tell, is like a pile of nachos except with hash browns instead of chips. We both stuffed ourselves and only ate about half of our meals, and on top of that, our total bill ended up only being ~$25. read more

Ok, my coffee cake was good, warm and melty butter, yum. Of course, the server slammed it down and it was broken and crumbling all over. My omelet was fine, although nothing to write home about and not very big. (I had a mountain view omelet). $9 and still hungry? not good. My wife had pancakes. $9 for 2 eggs, 2 bacon and 2 cardboard pancakes that taste like somewhat tender rubber floormats? bleh. I think we would have been better off printing a nice picture of pancakes on high fiber paper and munching on that. My wife was staring wistfully at Denny's the whole time. I've eaten at Hobee's a few times in the past for breakfast/brunch and from what I can remember, it was decent. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner yesterday since we had a coupon and it was a pretty good experience. By looking from the outside, this place looks kind of dead (boarded up since the brown blinds were closed & the rest of the building is brown). There are always flies flying around the front entrance (a few gets into the actual restaurant too, sadly, from people opening/closing the doors). My boyfriend said that he can totally imagine seeing this place on Kitchen Nightmare so they can get a free make-over, and I totally agree (their food, on the other hand, tastes average & I wouldn't say they need help from Chef Ramsey just yet)! We ended up ordering: 1. tri-color chip with beans & dip - this dish was delicious! (minus the beans because...let's just say my stomach doesn't always agree with them) 2. los gatos chipotle alfredo pasta - my boyfriend ordered this dish...it came with chicken sausage (?! this is the first time I've heard of such a thing) and I think initially the pasta tasted kind of funky from the sausage but as you get deeper into the dish, it tastes real good! The dish itself is pretty spicy though, so beware if you can't do spicy food! 3. Hobee's breakfast quesadilla - this was my entree & I got hash brown on the side (I was going back and forth between hash & their coffee cake, though!)...overall very delicious, tastes just like an omelet except the whole thing is wrapped in a tortilla, ha ha... Overall, I think all the dishes could have been hotter - by the time they reached our table, they were already lukewarm (starting to get cold). They also need to train their waiters/waitresses to be more aware of their surroundings - after we finished our food, we sat for at least 10 more minutes before the waiter came by and asked us if we wanted dessert. We asked for boxes...he came back with boxes but no plastic bag - and I thought asking for to-go boxes implies "check, please"?? We had to wait about another 5-10 minutes before the Manager himself came by with a plastic bag and our check. I put my credit card down and I had to yet again wave someone down (this time a completely new waiter)...*sigh* It's only Wednesday night! If this is the kind of service they provide on busy nights (i.e. weekends), how do they survive for this long?? I called to place a to-go order and they could not find it. Turns out I called the wrong location. They expedited my order-only took a couple of minutes. So far, this restaurant has been on point every time. I've tried something different with each visit & I always walk away pleasantly surprised. I love the fact that they have healthy options like a wheat tortilla for their huevos rancheros, turkey bacon & chicken apple sausage. They also have some very innovative breakfast combinations to their omelettes like sun dried tomatoe sauce on one & gouda cheese on another. The kids also love this restaurant & who doesn't love their ginormous coffee cakes! These are so good that you should opt out of the pancakes and try this delicious monstrosity. First timer at hobbies, found this place on yelp. The coffee cake pictures made me come :) Thank you yelp. Thank you select "nearby" button on yelp.. Small restaurant with dated furniture and maybe like 6 parking spaces in the front. The salad bar is right next to the restrooms and the restrooms are two unisex rooms. Odd. I came around 5pm on a Tuesday so the parking was fine for me and no wait for seating obviously. All the food on the menu sounded amazing and I'm defiantly going to come back for breakfast here. (I was really eyeing that stuffed French Toast and the Cranberry Pancakes) they have a full page just for breakfast and tons of the "lighter" choices for you health nuts. My partner ordered their Alfredo Chicken Pasta and Fresh Orange Juice. I ordered the Black Bean Chili over rice with tortilla chips to share, Pumpkin Walnut Coffeecake and a cup of coffee of course. Service was really good our waiter was very sweet checked up on us multiple times to make sure we liked our meals. my coffee cup was never empty. I really liked how they give you fresh fruit with the juice and not just an orange slice but an actual slice of pineapple or melon (she had two glasses by the end of her dinner) the food was very tasty. I love anything with black beans but the mix of the beans, rice, salsa and cream is always a win win. Came in on a Sunday around 1 pm to try and avoid the brunch rush. Was seated immediately. It seemed like they had few servers for a bunch of tables so I will say that the service was quite slow when we went. It took us probably 5-10 mins to keep looking at our waitress and trying to flag her down to take our orders. That was fairly frustrating since we were starving. But once the order was put in, the food came decently quickly. Ambiance of the place is that of a local diner, which we really liked. Not too crowded or noisy, which was nice. I'm a fan of their menu - so many options to choose from and they're all really unique combinations. It was so hard to decide which item to get because I wanted to try so many of them! I would say their menu is much better than your typical brunch menu w just pancakes and eggs. Their omelette was amazing - got the turkey bacon one which came with so much inside~ The breakfast burrito was ok...slightly bland. The coffee cafe they gave on the side was huge! Very happy with the coffee cake since it's such a unique side dish and tasted delicious. Probably will return again for something else on their brunch menu or their lunch options (many sandwiches and healthy bowls!). The dinner menu did look very meh though so don't think I will ever come here for dinner. read more

Hobees has been in institution for me since working in the Silicon Valley starting back in the 90's. I've always come to this location for team breakfasts to hanging out with friends on a weekend. Visited this location last weekend with my family as we were in the area and craving a hearty breakfast omelette. Hobee's doesn't disappoint in this area! A lot of selection, and from what I have tried, they have all been great. The standout for me was our waiter. He was polite, and super attentive. Filling our coffee and water like a ninja before we asked, despite the place being packed. Our experience continues to be excellent at this location. And yes, you need to have the LEGENDARY blueberry crumb cake. read more

My son and I haven't been to a Hobee's location in quite some time, but today we decided to have Sunday breakfast here, near his workplace, and we're glad we did! Although the parking is pretty tight, as other reviewers have indicated, I did manage to find a handicap parking spot. We were greeted by Miguel as we entered, and he seated us at a table as requested, then hurried off. A very nice lady brought our beverages, and then Miguel returned to take our order. We each chose different omelets or ommies, as the menu calls some of them. My son chose the Mountain View omelet and indicated sausage (there is a choice of sausage or ham), and sourdough toast. He also requested a piece of their famous blueberry coffeecake to go. I also asked for a to-go coffeecake, which Miguel brought out to us in a bag when he presented the check. My ommie was the Dot-Com and was delicious! I almost took part of it home because it, and the delicious home fries, were such generous portions but I couldn't stop. Miguel checked back with us frequently, provided us with beverage refills and even gave my son a takeout cup of the beverage he ordered with his meal. His helpfulness and cheerful attitude, and great smile, really made our meal special. Hobee's considers itself a healthy foods restaurant and I agree! I was very happy with my meal here! My husband had talked it up to me which can sometimes make my expectations too high, but it was delicious! I loved the different meal options and specials. It seemed like there was something to accommodate everyone! The coffee cake was what really makes my husband love the place and while I try not to eat sugar, I made an exception and it was very worthwhile! Absolutely delicious and tasted fresh! My omelet was great as well. My only negative, which happens to me at a lot of places, was that the decaf coffee was warm instead of hot. When they topped off my cup, it was the last of the pot so I know it wasn't hot because it had sat just a little too long. I've been to a few different Hobee's in the area. Always get a bennie and the coffee cake. I actually would not reccomend their tea - it's a bit strange tasting to me, but I'm picky over tea. Service is nice but food is average, it's where you'd go with a school soccer team after winning a game or when your family can't pick what they want and you follow the familiar. Let me start by saying that this was not my first visit, but ny second in a week. On the furst visit my food was awful. It had no flavor and the house potatoes were badly burned. My server was however very polite, and when I shared my concerns with him, after I mentioned them to him, he told the cook, and afterward we talked about some things that he really liked. Sometimes you strike out, so I decided to give it another shot. Today I went back and noticed the place made egg free pasta. I thought that was pretty awesome, considering allergies and sensitivities to food tend to make eating out difficult. I ordered the pasta with with salmon in it. Towards the end of the meal, the waitress came by and I told her I noticed the egg free pasta on the menu and was cuirious which brand it was. She said she wasnt sure so she went to go and ask the cook. When she came back she said that it was only some of the pastas that were egg free. Im the first to admit when Ive made a mistake so I asked to see the menu: "All Pasta Dishes Are Made With Egg-free Pasta." There it was, plain as day. No harm I thought, maybe she was new. She came back to the table with a bag of pasta, not sure why the menu said it was egg free and explained that it wasnt egg free pasta. "Sorry about that" she said. I politely asked for a managers business card. She said she didnt have one, and there wasnt a manager available. She did give me the number for the corporate office. Something told me to call another store to see if a manager was there. The person at the Mountain View store I spoke with told me there should be a manager there. I mentioned the waitress told me there was no one there and she back pedaled....really? There was no effort on the part of the staff to empathize with what had happened, I dont think she even understood the gravity of the situation. This isn't really about the fact that they sold regular pasta. It's about the fact that there are falsely advertising an item that they dont in fact produce which isnt just deceptive, its CRIMINAL, and begs the question of what else is on the menu that isnt actually what it says it is. I ended up with a stomach ache and a lesson learned about trying new places. What if I was rushed to the hospital? Its just negligent, and gives a bad name to small businesses. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. read more
