Stopped by on Friday night for a quick date night and got lucky that they had a one table left outside. We would have loved to sit inside because it was so beautiful and such a nice vibe but we were happy to be seated right away. Our server was super friendly but service is definitely slower outside since there are only 3 small tables. As for the food, we didn't get too much but the standout was definitely the cheeseburger. It was juicy, cheesy, and perfect! Fries that came on the side were also crispy and delicious. The steak tartare appetizer tasted fresh. Chicken Parmesan was decent- I liked the cheese but the salt was a bit uneven throughout the dish. Would definitely go back with a reservation indoors and perhaps try some drinks and desert!

We enjoyed our evening at Hoexters. The restaurant is dark and intimate (on the smaller side) and very busy, with a lively, trendy vibe. Even though we had a reservation, we still waited about 25-30 minutes for our table, so we grabbed drinks at the bar--worth it, because the dirty martinis were delicious. Food-wise, we had salads, steak, fries, and burgers. I have to say, I wasn't expecting the smashburger to be as good as it was--it really surprised me in the best way. Fries did come out super salty, but they did remake them for us. Service was generally pretty good, but we were disappointed that one person in our group had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes for her burger while everyone else's food came out, and no one from the staff really acknowledged the delay. Prices were on the higher side. But to be expected for any big city. Overall, it's a fun, trendy spot that's great for a date or a group night out. Despite a few hiccups, we'd definitely check it out again if we're in the area. Tip: A reservation is a must!

Made reservations in advance and was seated right away. For apps we got the bread and beef tartar, both were delicious but the bread definitely lived up to the expectations. The cheesesteak and fries were also very good! For dessert we got the sundae which I definitely recommend. The staff were very friendly and they were very attentive. We had a great experience and would definitely return.

Have come here for brunch and dinner now! Got the burger which was great and the Upper East Side cocktail which was a little too sweet for me but if that's your vibe it wasn't bad! Servers accommodated us to a table in the back when we wanted one with more room (the front bar is busy). Overall nice dinner!

Vibey uptown spot with a downtown feel. The burger was delish everything else was good not great but I really enjoyed dinning here. The service was great and the drinks were amazing as well. I'd go back and have a drink at the bar and get the burger

Such big portions and all the food was delicious. We all shared the garlic bread that was drenched in Gorgonzola, super filling so would share with the table (we had 8 people). The server was super attentive and everyone loved their drinks. I got the dirty gin martini and it was fantastic, the olives were so juicy and big too. It was perfect level of dirty. I got the chicken which was so juicy and big, my friends got the special and others got baked potato, Ceasar salad, rock shrimp salad and everyone loved what they got!!

The miso cod!!! So delicious and loved the side salad. It had peanuts on it. Crunchy with the soft fish.

A gem on the upper east side! Really was a great experience. We started with the caviar and potato chips that came with French onion dip -- a great compliment to the caviar. The Gorgonzola bread was next and is a must have. Followed by the double smashed burger which was really good. The ribs came with the cornbread and both were amazing. The Asian chicken salad was a special and it was just okay. We ended with the chocolate chip cookies and ice cream. We used the cookies to dip into the ice cream - SO good. Cocktails were also great. We had the old fashion, the lychee martini & the tio padre 2.0 (spicy mezcal drink) Overall a great restaurant

was looking for a sit down brunch near the met to have a nice little afternoon with a girlfriend and hoexter's fit the bill! really cute old school vibes in there with a dark rich ambience. we were seated in the back where it was quite chilly, but the staff were so quick to check if we wanted them to make it warmer, which they did promptly. got the french onion soup and the blt salad, the bright vinaigrette on the salad really complemented the rich cheesy soup. the bloody mary was perfectly spicy. definitely worth a stop if in the area.

good food. the gorgonzola cheese bread was delicious, the space was very pretty, service was also 10/10 - the salmon could have had a little more flavor, but i liked it.

Really enjoyed our experience here! The ambiance was very nice and each dish we got was phenomenal. I genuinely have zero complaints about the food. The Branzino was absolutely delicious and so unique - might be one of my favorites in the city. The service could have been a bit better as we were left waiting to pace our orders for a while and food and drinks took a while to arrive however I will definitely be back! Very happy to have a classic upscale American establishment in the neighborhood.

Excellent food and experience dining here. It starts and ends with the impeccable service and excellent ambience. The food itself was delicious- a little pricey but you are paying for quality. Recommend the calamari which had awesome flavor, the burger which was very high quality and cooked to perfection, and the roast half chicken which had so much flavor and was so moist. This is a great restaurant in the area and is totally worth dining at. Highly recommend.

A spur of the moment date night. We were able to grab a table on a weekday. It was a small round table inside by the window. It worked well since we wanted to share our entree anyway. My husband got an espresso martini, which was okay, not the best one he has tried, probably mid-tier. We tried their famous smash burger. I would say, unless you are a voracious eater, try to split the burger. It can be a lot for one person. I split it with my husband and we both agreed that half a burger is enough. The burger was cooked very well and had great flavor, a little bit on the greasy side. The fries were slim, fried to a great crisp, and very enjoyable. The broccoli was ordered so we would have some vegetables for the night. However, nothing to write home about. The meal was quite expensive, especially since we essentially shared everything. (Burger for $29, Cocktail for ~$21, and probably half a head of broccoli for $14.) Probably will not return.

What to make of this place?…read more When we visited in September (at that time), a wanna-be sports bar had just taken over the Greek taverna Blue Sea Taverna (before that, two iterations of Akrotiri). Both Greek tavernas had failed or gone out of business. So we were curious to see what changes had been made. When we entered, we were initially confused because the seating, especially the lounge seating, did not create a sports bar vibe. Even adding a bunch of TVs did not give us that feel either. Instead, our initial impression was that they were trying to convert an old Greek taverna into a gastropub, similar to other well-known ones in the area. And I should also add we had not been following the local news about the controversy regarding their name association with a World War II fortified bunker that was blown up at the end of the Second World War, and only read about the controversy over their name after we left, and on social media. Apparently, the owner(s) were most likely unaware of its historical context when naming their establishment. So we did not factor that into this review. Upon entering the Wolf's Lair, the seating was that of a modified Mediterranean restaurant. We chose the comfy seating looking out towards 29th Street and 30th Avenue. It had been raining heavily, and so we were just glad to be inside. Because our initial impression was that we were in a Mediterranean gastropub, we ordered lamb chops with lemon potatoes. The waiter, who may have been one of the owners, informed us that this vegetable was not on the menu; however, when our chops arrived, as you can see from the photos, we were indeed served lemon potatoes. We got what we ordered, which made us happy, and the chops were cooked to perfection. As we usually do not drink alcohol, beverages were not factored into our review. However, there was one thing we found a little strange and creepy. When we left, one of the employees, presumably an owner, insisted on coming out to help take photos. This was a little off-putting. Nevertheless, we got some good shots. In writing this review, we spent a lot of time deliberating our experience at the Wolf's Lair. We focused on the restaurant, service, food quality, and atmosphere. While the overall experience was excellent, we did not find Wolf's Lair to have a sports-bar atmosphere, but rather a family-dining atmosphere. On the day we visited, there was hardly any action at the bar, and most of us seated were into the food, if nothing else, with one family having a birthday party for one of their children. Overall, we had a good experience. Whether we come back to see if the Wolf's Lair becomes an actual sports bar, well, that's another matter.

Coming into the place I was greeted by a blonde woman who seemed to be a supervisor of the area. She directed me to a comfortable seating area and a server took my order afterwards. The place was relatively busy so the wait for my food was kind of in the long range, about maybe 15 minutes. I ordered Chicken & Waffles with Iced Tea and the food was definitely worth the wait. That chicken was so good, a bit on the crisp side but it's solid in taste. The Waffle had such an awesome texture with the right measure of powdered sugar, decorated with Blueberries and Strawberries, the entrée was plated very well. The Iced Tea, I didn't know it was unsweetened so that threw me off but some sugar kinda fixed that. Service was also 'A' Tier. The place was busy so it was a tad on the slow side but they were very attentive.
