Came here for restaurant week. We chose to do the 60 dollar dinner but there was also a 45 dollar dinner option. We did have a reservation earlier at 5 pm. Basically had the whole dining room to ourselves. Our waitstaff was very attentive. Even as time went on and the dining room became full. They also let us stay 2.5 hours. The food was delish. I had Krispy rice with truffle mushroom. The short ribs for entree which was so delightful - beef was melt in your mouth and tasty. All sides were good mashed potatoes, broccolini, and carrots. Key lime pie for dessert was average. Overall a great high end experience for an affordable price for restaurant week. read more

Our experience at David Burke was honestly a bit surreal. My partner and I left asking if we were just a part of a TV show Stumbled in here on a cold miserable day in NY. Was greeted by an energetic young gentleman server who was lovely. (I forgot his name sorry). It's a nice cozy environment. We ordered a few appetizers and a couple dirty vodka martinis (v good). The bacon was funny and quite good and the tartare was also pretty good. The lobster dumplings were not great but was glad to try. From the second we sat down there was just too many little oddities that just added up to make the whole thing seem like a set up. I'm going to try my best to remember everything. Just an FYI, the server was incredible. He's a credit to the restaurant. My review might seem critical but I swear he was amazing - the server would run to and from tables as if he was run off his feet. There was at most three tables seated at one time. - three different customers were in there that looked like celebrities. I couldn't place them but they were so familiar - an odd girl customer came in and said she was waiting on some people. She stood for 20 mins. Another girl came in and walked right by this girl saying she had a meeting here with people and went up the stairs and the first girl clearly was the one she was meeting as she awkwardly walked up the stairs 2 mins later. - there would be random deliveries through the day. Amazon deliveries of odd items and at one point someone handed in a piece of paper that said something about Elizabeth Warren and murders. It had a phone number on it and we said to our server to call it. He got the landline and handed it to my fiance who waited for the line to ring out. No answer - everytime there was a silence, our server would drop something. The thing is, he was just so funny about it that it seemed like it was a comedic sketch. Like it happened 6 times that he would drop a glass or a tray of cutlery. And his reactions were so funny that I couldn't help but laugh but he laughed with us haha - the bacon coming out on a clothes hanger really threw me as it was so random - a couple came in and were seated together and he ordered stuff and then at one point put on his jacket and just left? And didn't come back? The woman he was with looked scarily like an actress in succession. There was absolutely more things that happened but this is all I can write about at this time. what an experience. I really hope to go back soon. read more

The lunch specials and happy hour alone make it worth the trip. Lunch service was a bit slow during my visit, but the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. It seemed like they may have been a little understaffed that day. I really enjoy the bar area -- it has a fun, vibrant energy and TVs. Delivery is usually quick and reliable, though they do turn it off during especially busy hours, so it's best to plan ahead. The dining room is spacious, clean, and has a traditional feel, making it comfortable whether you're stopping in for a casual meal or meeting friends. I hate doing this. I thought a lot about it before leaving this review but the service and conditions were quite frankly, reprehensible. The service was extraordinarily slow and poorly managed. Server did not begin taking our meal orders until nearly an hour and a half after arrival. The condition of the upstairs restroom was equally troubling. There was no hand soap in the bathroom (health code violation) and an N95 mask had been thrown on the floor next to the toilet bowl. Very concerning someone that sick used the bathroom before me and didn't wash their hands. The temperature in the restaurant was significantly hot and uncomfortable . Guests were asking for fans. It's was unbearably hot. Most alarmingly, there was a broken chair at our table. I sat down on it, the chair gave way, and I fell to the floor. The broken leg hit me in the head. This was a serious safety issue that could have resulted in a significant injury. For reference I only weigh 120lbs, my weight did not break the chair. The chair was missing a leg when they picked it up. The restaurant didn't even apologize. My husband had to tell them that their lack of response was disrespectful. Almost a month ago I was in the neighborhood and made a pit stop here for lunch. Service was great and quick. My server was knowledgeable and helped me decide which items to try. Ambiance was the same as I remembered but empty because it was lunch time. I started off with a hot toddy cocktail to stay warm and it was my first alcoholic drink since Lent lol. I enjoyed my drink with the naked oysters and salmon. This pescatarian prix fixe meal for $35 hit the spot. My friend and I ended up here for restaurant week after I misbooked a restaurant. We started off the night at a different restaurant but it turns out that place only did restaurant week for lunch, not dinner. We weren't about to blow a ton of money on that place so we came here. I had eaten here once before - dont' remember what i had - but I remember the food being pretty decent. So for restaurant week, the food was sizable, tasty, and 100% worth the money. For my set, I got the tartare w/ plantain chips, the steak frites, and pie (don't remember if it's key-lime or lemon, i think it's key lime). My friend got the salad, the chicken, and the specialty dessert of cotton candy and lollipops. I think the inspiration was childhood sweets that we all used to love. I loved the food. Ambience was bustling, busy, but service was fast and the server was very friendly. David Burke is actually in the middle of opening a new restaurant in Jersey City. I pass this place all the time, but today I saw a Restaurant Week sign and decided to try it. Small spot. Not crowded for lunch, but enough people that it didn't feel awkward, and it wasn't noisy. I'm not a big drinker, but at any new spot I usually try a cocktail from the menu. The drinks listed on their website weren't on the current menu, and nothing else sounded enticing enough to spend $20 on one drink. For lunch I ordered the Caesar salad and the steak frites. The Caesar was a generous portion but otherwise totally forgettable. The only memorable part was the croutons, and even those were oddly soft, with no crunch at all. The steak was horrible, honestly. It smelled weird, almost fishy, and it was extremely tough. I ordered it medium. It looked medium, but they bring it out on a sizzling plate and the underside was way overcooked. My biggest complaint was the service. I understand there was only one person serving the whole place, but I wasn't checked on even once. My water got refilled, which was the only saving grace. No one asked how the food was, if I wanted anything else, or gave me a chance to ask for steak sauce to help the sad steak go down. After I was clearly finished, the restaurant emptied out and I still had to put my coat on and walk up to the bar just to get my check. Was looking forward as David Burke is a perfectionist but this particular day it was a little less than perfect. Tuna Tartar- nice cuts and well seasoned, with a slight touch of acid so this was a nice starter and expectations for the main courses was high. Mushroom Ravioli- nice presentation and decent portion size but the cook was not even as some rav's were over done which was unfortunate cause the ones that were al dente was perfect bite and paired well with the brown butter sauce but the slices of uneven cooked garlic made some bites a little aggressive. Roasted Salmon- once again, nicely presented and a very generous portion topped with saute watercress over a beet swoosh. It was requested to be medium but like the rav's the cook was not evenly through so there were parts that were dry but the sections that were medium were delicious. Overall, service was excellent and the lunch option of $35 for starter and entree was a great deal. If the cook was more even on both entrees this would be a definite 4 star rating. read more

Enjoyed a Restaurant Week 2025 2-course Lunch, with some additional add-ons. I expected the food to be delicious and it was. Why did I expect that? Well, some years ago, I had enjoyed several meals at David Burke's restaurant inside Bloomingdale's on East 59th Street. Sometimes, I would even stop in to buy a "take-out" order of one amazingly delicious POPOVER. Oh, how I loved those warm, cheesy-peppery popovers!! Mmm, so good, a wonderful comfort food. Pair that yummy popover with the very nice staff, and it was a win-win situation. I wish you'd bring back those popovers, please, please, please. Although I did not see those beloved popovers on the menu, the lunch was quite enjoyable. I ordered The Tavern Onion Soup, The Hanger Steak Frites. I like my steak "medium", which means I am going to see the pink in the middle when I slice my steak. My steak arrived sliced and it was nice! See my photos. I liked the David Burke steak knife. I did use it to cut some of the slices. I'd rate the onion soup a 4/5, because the soup itself, in my humble opinion, could have used a bit more flavor or seasoning, and I would have liked a bit more of the melted yummy cheese. It was served very neat, no melted cheese on the outside of the crock bowl. Everything was inside the bowl. Looked nice. My hanger steak was very good. A delightful amount of charred, crispness on the edges of each slice of steak. Very good. And the French fries were great. I added a side vegetable of roasted Brussels sprouts which were yummy. 5/5 For dessert, I enjoyed the Key Lime Pie, and a pot of chamomile tea with honey on the side. 5/5 My friend had , and totally enjoyed: tuna tartare, mushroom ravioli, pumpkin cheesecake, cappuccino. All looked delicious and was delicious. I want to return soon to try that fabulous looking tuna tartare and that mushroom ravioli. Interior-WONDERFUL. The David Burke Tavern is in a lovely townhouse. I love the decor . David Burke's style is whimsical and cozy, comfy, with an aire of elegance. It's everything that I like. LOL There is a lovely, long bar when you enter. And there is comfortable seating on the main floor and the second floor. On the main floor there's even an area for a very cozy private table of about 4 to 6 people. It's tucked away inside its own space which is really lovely to see. A clever design, space, for sure. And the upstairs has beautiful black and white patterned floor tiles, in an array of designs, as you enter the lovely, dark walled dining room. The padded banquet seating is in the orange-ish color that just compliments the decor so beautifully. The staff was very nice and helpful. There is also a Happy Hour, Tuesday -Friday, 3:30pm-6:30pm, with special pricing on drinks and yummy food items. For example, a yummy cheeseburger and fries for $15. (I'll be seeing you soon!!) We were the first to arrive for dinner service and were seated in a lovely corner table. The decor was fantastic. It would be appropriate for any setting and there was a mix of all ages and backgrounds. Some folks were there just for a casual friday night dinner, while others were there to celebrate. Our server struggled with a few things that were disappointing such as not knowing the soup of the day. We actually ordered the French Onion Soup and it never arrived unfortunately. We were never presented with any specials (unsure if there were any beyond the Restaurant Week menu we were presented). The cocktail menu was promising but the execution was hit and miss as the Espresso Martini was very watery. The steak was delectable. The burger was strong. This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We booked reservations for my friends 25th birthday. We were sat upstairs and the ambience was very nice but we were one of two tables in the entire restaurant and our waitress didn't even take our drink order until we had been sitting there for over and hour. It was 1.5 hours before we actually received our drinks. From there even longer for food and the bottomless brunch wasn't even worth it because it took literally half an hour to get each round. The food was fine, not worth the horrific wait, portions were smaller for the price. We complained to management and service got marginally better but we were literally there for 3 hours and it took ages to get the check. Since we were a large party gratuity was automatically included so maybe that was why we experienced terrible service. But I will never ever be back. We snagged a table in the bar area on a Saturday night prior to 6:30 and we're we able to enjoy the Happy hour menu which is honored till 7pm. $15 burgers and fairly priced apps and drinks were a welcome respite from typical Manhattan prices. Me and a friend had drinks here the other day and the bartender was extremely rude, we asked a question about the bill and he went in a rant on adding up the bill and giving us a math lesson when we asked one question. I have to steer people off of the holiday menus of this restaurant because I think they are a total ripoff. My Son and I thought the Christmas menu looked interesting; so we visited on Christmas day and were sorely disappointed. We ordered a bottle of Cabernet which was okay. We both ordered lobster bisque which tasted like it was from Panera. I ordered prime rib, which looked more like a steak and was tough, and my Son ordered filet mignon, which was disappointing. The potatoes served with it were sparce. The apple pie for desert was a small tart, not pie. After dinner, we ordered an Irish coffee ($17 each). Total bill with tip $403. Ripoff heaven. Everything seemed to be brought in from somewhere else, and their drink prices are ridiculous. Never returning. This is a real buyer beware situation. Also, the layout is a bit strange. So when we got our Diet Cokes and they looked like water slightly tinted brown (and tasted like that), we didn't complain. We did not realize that was a five dollar sip of brown water. I took my grandmother here for mother's day and it was packed. I figured it would be busy but I was surprised to say the least. While we did have to wait a bit to be seated the staff was wonderful. They checked in on us to make sure we were taken care of and apogized for the wait. A young woman who was the general manger made sure to stop by as well and informed us the table was ready. Super disappointed given this place has 4 stars. Went for happy hour and was looking forward to their lobster dumplings as they were recommended by a friend. Would up getting an order of those, hipster fries, oysters, and the happy hour cheeseburger. My wife and I split most of it. I should have read some of the reviews beforehand because the lobster dumplings were a huge letdown. Two pieces came in the order for $12. I didn't realize that there was a leg shell sticking out of the top of the dumpling so when I cut a piece and took a bite I had a mouthful of shell. There was absolutely no lobster flavor at all. The oysters were great, but pricey we than other happy hours at $3 each. Small but tasty. I've had $1 oysters elsewhere that were just as good but larger. The burger was fine, nothing to brag about. The hipster fries were great, they had shishito peppers and bacon. A very nice touch was that the bacon was thick cut and sliced to be the same size as the fries so it was a nice bite to get one and one as a bite. Service was great, no complaints there. The place is tight so when it got a little busy my stool at the high top across from the bar was getting hit a lot and some "local " looking guy sat obnoxiously at the bar behind me and made it unpleasant. Food was very good especially their famed thick bacon served with tiny laundry clips on a string like clothes. The bacon has a maple coat seasoned with different peppers and a pickle. I have always seen this and last night was the first time I had them. It makes me want to go back. The cooked bacon is torched at your table before serving. Impressive! I do not recommend the lobster dumplings because I could not taste the lobster. I recommend the scallops with a nice touch of sauce. This is definitely a fine dining establishment and you notice as soon as you walk in the door you are introduced by a bar and a table area. They have their dining area on the second floor with elevator access if needed. The second floor dining area has an intimate feel to it a very nice place to bring a few friends or a nice date. The service is really good but I feel the tables are a little close to each other. I ordered off the restaurant week menu. I had a Caesar Salad which was only romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, and homemade unseasoned croutons. I t was good but I feel they have could've put more effort into the flavor. I had the lobster dumplings, and tuna tartare which was out of this world. My entree I had the hanger steak with hipster fries which was also really good. The chocolate moose cake was delicious and the perfect amount of sweet and savory. I went there with my mother this evening Christmas 2025 for the first time. We had a 5:30pm reservation. They were about 10 minutes late seating us but not a big deal. The atmosphere was on the older side which we like. It was busy. The service was mediocre and so was the food as I'll explain. The menu was a prefix at 105 per person. We both had the butternut squash soup which we thought was amazing. For main course I had the filet mignon ordered medium rare and my mother had the prime rib medium rare. My steak was done more medium well then anything. My mother's prime rib was not very tender and also seemed overcooked. The sides that came with it were skimpy and barely enough. For desert we both ordered the apple crumble pie because they were already out of pecan pie. It wasn't even a pie but more like an apple tart with ice cream on top that also was mediocre and seemed to be pre-ordered from another bakery. We understand that things can be tough on a holiday however when you are paying 400 bucks a meal with no extras it should be better than that. The quality of the meat clearly was not up to par because even if overcooked it would have been more tender than it was. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because its a holiday however the overall feeling was that it wouldn't be much better during normal times. So we won't be back. Ambiance (5/5): The establishment has both an indoor and outdoor dining area. The first floor is a casual experience with high top and bar seating. The upstairs is the main dining area but exquisite decor that feels like a rustic library mixed with a speakeasy. I love the life-sized stuffed penguins! The place is moderately lit, low music volume, and overall comfortable place for a comfortable meal. Service (5/5): On a Sunday evening, the place was probably at 25% capacity. We were asked if we wanted to dine downstairs or upstairs and am glad we chose upstairs and in a corner with the stuffed penguin. We were able to sit intimately side by side this way! We were attended to throughout the meal and the manager/owner also came to check in on us. Food (4.5/5): There is an option for the fixed price menu for 3 courses indicated by a little grain icon. We opted to choose our own courses. Pisco Disco cocktail (1/5): it was extremely tart and not good Tuna and Salmon Tartare (5/5): I loved the combo of the seaweed salad and avocado with the ponzu. More importantly, the fish tasted really fresh. The spices melded with the avocado made each bite taste creamy. Dry-aged 34 oz porterhouse for two (4/5): This cut's seasoning is patent-protected! The dish had a great presentation of the bone standing upright with a couple slices of onion rings, and the meat pre-cut laid around the bone. Half of the dish had meat that was cooked more medium than our ask of medium-rare. I'm being picky with their choice to provide blunt knives instead of a steak knife since without the serrated edges, it was a little more difficult to cut tougher meat. Sadly, I felt like the meat's crust wasn't seasoned enough! The crust was salted but did not have the thick crisp that I was hoping for. Perhaps the layer of marbling and crust wasn't aged for long enough?? Otherwise, the flavoring was great! There was an optional au jus to complement the steak, which I felt helped to moisten some of the well done meat. Mash Potatoes with garlic confit (5/5): Perfect creaminess and savory taste that a mash potato dish should be Brussel Sprouts (5/5): These were amazingly charred and had a fully packed flavor in each bite! The creamy sauce added an extra layer of taste that the Brussel sprouts already had on its own! It's almost like there was a marinate to it that allows each bite to be rich. Celebrated a good friend's birthday brunch last weekend and it was nice. 4-stars because it's obviously a pretty and classy place and because Jennifer took such great care of us. Also loved the special and semi private table they chose for us. On to the food. We started with the dressy oysters which were wonderful and since some couldn't eat oysters, we also had the clothesline bacon which was yum and a pretty fun spin to it. For main entree, most if not all had the steak and eggs and this for me was a bit underwhelming. Dessert was a slice of chocolate cake and we tried the lollipop cheesecake which came with cotton candy. This was quite enjoyable to share with our big group. The only thing I wished they had was a little complimentary birthday treat, not only did I have to specifically ask, it apparently was charged. It's really not the cost honestly, it's just always nice to do a little something for the birthday celebrant of the day, whether asked for or not. We all opted for the bottomless brunch and while I was personally just taking it slow, nice to see that my friends did enjoy when they went for more. :) read more
