Sadly, I must say that Hofbrau is one of the worst restaurants in terms of the food. The environment is fun in the front of the restaurant but we were sat along a side hall that smelled a bit funny and the windows were dirty with bugs. I did not let our atmosphere get me down because the reviews said that the food was great. No else to describe it but yuck. The picture attached with the side of blue cheese for out filet (btw steak was 3 oz not 6) speaks for itself. Who would serve that. I am a nacho lover and even the nachos, which I had as a meal, were unsatisfactory. Too much cheese (never thought I would ever say that) I really think that they used the complete brick of cheese. Nachos were topped with wilted lettuce and chopped, soggy tomato's. Guac needed salt and was mostly onion. Our meal was nearly $80 for 2 ladies and a child- overpriced and so badly executed! Before eating here, contrary to Yelp ratings, reconsider and try one of other good restaurants in the area. Cheaper and much, much better!!! read more

Nice variety for Sunday brunch; the prime rib was tender and delicious after chef offered to cook it a bit more for me in omelette pan with au jus. Homemade mashed potatoes yummy, good cinnamon pecan rolls, and husband loved Belgian waffle. Only complaint was the iced tea. The Bloody Mary bar was replaced by an ice cream bar years ago; we did not even go to see it, we were so full. Nice homemade dessert selection that included fresh fruit. Very reasonable at $15 per person. Service acceptable. They also have 52 beers on tap. Sleepy town near the world-famous Interlochen music camp. read more

Received a buy one entree, get one entree free (limit $20.00) coupon via email. I went there with my husband for an anniversary dinner hoping to have an enjoyable evening. We ordered our food but neglected to inform the waiter of the coupon until our dinner arrived. We were then informed the coupon does not work for any item over $20.00. The problem is there is NOT any entrees under $20.00. They would not just take $20.00 off one of the meals. The waiter checked with the bartender but said they could only apply the coupon to our soup and salad. The food was good but I felt the coupon was false advertising and I will not go back. We were disappointed in our visit to the Hofbrau. Several years ago we were "regulars" and since moving to Florida we were looking to enjoy a meal at one of our former favorites. Came here on a Sunday a few weeks ago and while I definitely wasn't into the decor, I was extremely into their brunch buffet. It was exactly what we needed-- perfect hangover cure. The buffet had everything; an omelette station with a cook who made yours in front of you, French toast, waffles, etc. and then another station with mashed potatoes, some meat products.. I think meatballs?.., salad bar, and a DESSERT TOWER STATION! The dessert station had sooo much stuff; chocolate covered cherries, brownies, cake slices, truffles, ice cream, etc. it was a dream. Their Bloody Mary and Mimosas were also $5 so like I said, my hangover was cured. 4 stars because it was a bit unorganized and the decor was all over the place. read more

The perch here is fantastic. And they have cottage fries! The beer list is pretty on point, too. I was very happy to see plenty of dark beer options during summer, especially in a rural area. Ok, so, I am NOT a kid, but, I am a very picky eater. I have never been denied a kids menu. I understand if I was alone? But if i'm with someone and the other person is paying in full, I should not be discriminated against! Also, keep in mind that even though I am not 12, I am also not 18! Hi, i'm not an adult yet!! Further, when the waitress brought us our plates, they had dried food stuck on them. I'm rating this three stars based on a few things. First, this is a restaurant with a German name, so why don't they have anything on the menu that even resembles German food? It seems a little odd. I get that they're trying to go "German" with their beers but that doesn't go very well with random food like pizza and nachos. The actual food was okay but not super great. I probably wouldn't go back for it unless there was nothing else open. I had the French Onion soup and it was fine, not overly salty or cheesy like some. Two other people in my group split the pizza and they said it was pretty good. The third person got the chicken sandwich and said that the chicken was tasty but the bread wasn't that good. (Though it can be hard to get food in Michigan right now due to shipping delays, so I would factor that into my review.) Now, on to the seating. Our party had a dog and we had to sit outside. However this meant that we had to sit next to the live music outside. The singer and pianist were good, but man it was LOUD. Not their fault, just a word of warning to anyone sitting next to any live music here: you will not be able to hear yourself think. We decided to leave early due to the dog getting freaked out by the music being so loud. The cooks and servers were wonderful and boxed up our food still in the kitchen and brought it out to us to take to our hotel. They were very polite about it and that was a huge help as we were worried about seeming rude for leaving early. read more

We chose Hofbrau for dinner based on selections on website. We quickly found out like many restaurants during Covid was limited but there was a variety of selections as well as beer, wine and cocktails. Our waiter Bradley was pleasant and attentive. What shocked us most were the prices. My husband ordered the 12 oz ribeye and I ordered the chicken fettuccine. Neither was very flavorful and the portions were too large. My fettuccine had very little chickens or mushrooms and too many cherries. The part that surprised us were the prices. $25 for the fettuccine which was served with a burnt and greasy, inedible slice of garlic bread...the salad was al la cart but very good. For $25 the salad should have been part of the meal. I was only able to finish a third of the portion. The $40 ribeye was served with mashed potatoes and snap peas and piled high with onion straws (mile high rib eye) read more

The seafood mac only had shrimp it in (it was missing the other seafood) and it was quite bland. The stuffed chicken was a little better. It was on a Tuesday so it was half off but I wouldn't have paid more that food. The pumpkin cheesecake was decent. Worse service I have had in my life!!!What should have been a fun night for my boyfriend and I celebrating our birthdays with my parents turned into a nightmare. We waited for a table not a big deal, had a drink at the bar. Bartender was busy but very nice and got our drinks in a timely matter. We were seated shortly after... our server Gina who you could tell was having a rough night... very clear to see. I get it I have been a server it's not an easy job but never, ever do you treat your customers like Gina treated us. I order a drink with a toy shark...yahoo... it's my birthday that sounds fun..."WE HAVE NO TOYS FOR THOSE DRINKS." ok not a big deal I will just take the drink. Next is our appetizers, delicious! But she makes a joke about wanting a triple tip... Haha we all laugh. Mind you the whole time she acts like we are a bother and is very short. We are just out for a good time. She proceeds to take our dinner order and forgets to take my dads and walks away. He catches her attention , orders, and ask for a second drink. Gina getting ruder at this point says "I WONT BE GETTING A TIP AT ALL, BUT I DONT CARE AT THIS POINT." not sure where that came from. Time goes by no second drink... she walks by, dad reminds her about that drink and that's when we get a huge attitude, "ITS NOT READY OK? OH MY GOD" and she storms off. luckily another server seen these to back me. Gina then comes with salads, we ask for our bill this was enough for one night. She informs us we have made her want to cry!!! not sure how... Best part of the night is we are walking out and she is at a table of men, complaining about us. She is seriously complaining about her guest to another table. The table of guys then has the audacity to call my dad an asshole twice as we walk by. First the great. The beer selection was incredible. A great selection of local and national beers. The atmosphere was clean, fun and quiet. There is a beautiful flower garden in front which would be fun to sit by during the warmer seasons. There were a lot of TVs with different sporting events on. The service was great. Rachel was our server and she was awesome. She gave us some great recommendations for drinks as well as things to do during our trip. The not so great. The food was ok. Nothing spectacular. The Hofbrau used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I went in May 2012 for the first time in a year and was dismayed by how bad the food has become. The first thing we noticed was that the prices on almost all entrees were $2-$3 higher than we remembered. Oh well, we thought. It's good food. WRONG. I ordered the whitefish, which I'm pretty sure used to be available broiled or sautéed or other options than deep fried. Deep frying good whitefish seems like a waste. But, since it's the only option available now, that's what I had. It was the most flavorless waste of $20 I've had in a long time. Bland, bland, bland. I'd like to at least say the side dishes were good, but the salad was a pile of iceberg lettuce with a couple onions thrown on and the baked potato was just a boring old baked potato. My parents both ordered prime rib. Again, there was almost no flavor to the meat or the au jus that was provided. I can somewhat forgive bland food if it costs $12 or less. But these 3 meals were all $18 or more. I KNOW the Hofbrau used to be better than this. Until they get back to their old standards, or at least their old prices, I won't be back. read more

But, we had to park in the lot next door. 15 minute wait? Alright. Went by quick. Sat down, greeted by some high school age server. Mostly unfriendly. Informed us of the specials too promptly, as we were sitting down, couldnt even settle in to focus on what he was saying. Handed us the menus. NOT A GERMAN ITEM ON THE STINKIN MENU?! WHAT HAS THIS PLACE COME TO!!? Instant dissapointment. The kid got us drinks. Margarita on the rocks with salt was strong. Mmm. Everybody's soda was made with the gross, up-north Michigan sulfur water. Trust me, hold on the soda. Unless you want to waste money on putridness. Get a great beer. We ordered Spinach-Crab dip to start. Was REALLY good. Gone in 5 minutes, licked the bowl clean. As we waited for our food, they have this cool trivia game you can play with other fellow diners in the restaurant. My little brother was delighted. But play silently, people were stealing our answers. Quite competitive. Our food finally arrived. I got the classic penne pasta. On the menu it was described as "Pasta of your choice in a olive oil and garlic sauce tossed with roasted red peppers and parmesan cheese." Sounds delicious, right? No. They left out a word. FLAKES. As in HOT roasted red pepper flakes. Big difference. By the end of the meal, my lips were burnt off my face. I hate hot stuff. Just no. My mom got the sun-dried tomato pesto pasta. Since when does pesto turn into a cream sauce?! She was highly dissapointed to see red-tinted alfredo sauce on her pasta. Haaaail no. That is NOT pesto. My sister got the Bacon Turkey Cheddar sandwich. Looked and tasted good. Added mustard made it all the more better. Brother got the perch. He said it was horrible. Incredibly fishy smelling and tasting, like it was rotting. And the color... was grey, almost black. That cannot be good. Overall, a "mehh" experience. Take that word as you wish. read more

Our visit on Tuesday was the worst experience we have ever had at the Hofbrau. We will never make the effort or waste of money at your business again! IT took over 2 1/2 hours for 11 of us to eat our dinner. ANd you werent even that busy. My husband complained to the manager on duty 3 times, never got an apology or offered to discount our meals. My husband Chicken was dry and the sauce on the chicken parmesan was aweful. The only reason he ate the chicken was because he was starving! My sons Fish was cold and greasy. Anyone who has ever been to Interlochen knows about the Hofbrau. It's another one of those places that has existed for so long that it's been deemed an "institution." But unlike most institutions, the Hofbrau is clean, welcoming and charming. I haven't been to Interlochen for a long time, and I don't remember many specifics about the food, other than it was good and I liked the pizza. But I do remember specifically watching humming birds out the window and feeling extremely relaxed and always enjoying the atmosphere at the Hofbrau. They've got a great menu and everyone will find some the like! And the have a super wine and beer list including my favorite Belgian Kriek. There's an outdoor beer garden for warm days too. First, a consumer alert: "Hofbrau" is false advertising. Nary a German dish on the menu. It's bar food all the way. That being said, it's good bar food, and not the kind of place where all the appetizers are pulled out of big white boxes in the freezer. Our choice was the brie with horseradish relish, which was slightly disappointing -- not much zip in the relish, and just a small round of brie; we were anticipating a larger, wrapped-in-filo cheese. Our table had several of the fried fish plates, for which choices include blue gill (nice touch). Kudos for an excellent tartar sauce-to-fish ratio; first time I can recall actually finishing with tartar sauce left over. Fish were prepared well, and the breading doesn't overwhelm the fish. In this case, the three-star rating is about as good as this kind of menu could earn. Nothing here blew us away, but I can see why it's very popular. Service was good. read more

Our family wants to give a big shout out to the entire staff of Hofbrau! The friendly staff - Veronica took care of us twice, Riley once as well, and the bartender is always great too - make this place terrific! We have been coming there for years, and not only do they stay open to accommodate our late schedule, but they can also handle large parties with ease. The food is delicious, the drinks generous, plus lots of great beers on tap. Kitchen staff crushed it this weekend too - dozens of walk-ins at 11 or 12 seems to be no problem! Thanks everyone! Attended a Rehearsal Dinner for a Wedding at Hofbrau this past Friday. The waitress we had was very nice but it did take a very long time to get our drinks and food. We ordered a free appetizers for the table: cheese sticks, guacamole, onion rings and pretzels. The pretzels were the winner, they came with a super yummy cheese sauce. The guacamole was really disappointing, we barely ate it. It had no flavor at all and needed more like or cilantro or really anything to help out. I ordered the chicken pot pie which should have the name changed to chicken pot pie soup with a puff pastry on the side. Was not what I was expecting to have ordering a pot pie. Wouldn't entirely recommend this place but our waitress was super nice so a tiny bit of bonus points there read more

Poor service, had one server and one chef on a Saturday during the cherry fest. Waitress was polite and tried but there were over a hundred people in the restaurant. The manager was rude. Hofbrau is my favorite bar to hit up any night of the week. The staff is excellent and always friendly. While my fiance and I normally choose to sit at the bar, the dining area is beautiful! I love the views and there are two fireplaces on either side of the restaurant to cozy up to on a cold winter/spring/summer/fall night (come on, we live in Michigan, there's bound to be at least one cold night every season). They also just installed 3 80" flat screens above the bar (another great reason to sit up there!). When it comes to the food, we normally end up getting a pizza. I'm really indecisive, but the sandwiches, Mexican fare, and appetizers are really spot on. The Hoffy Special pizza is awesome, and is definitely recommended. The real specTAPular thing about Hofbrau is their extensive tap list. I'm so impressed by all of the beers that they have available! I love trying new beers and expanding my palate. Not only do they have a stellar beer selection, the cocktails they make are AMAZING! Their martini game is on the mark. They always have specialty martinis that are perfect. The prices are a little steep, but I feel that it's worth the cost. If you go during Happy Hour, it's not so harsh on the pocketbook. Overall, this is a great place to go. I love their Happy Hour schedule - Monday-Saturday 4 p.m.-6 p.m., I also think there's a late night happy hour as well. It's tough to find a great HH on a Saturday! read more

The ribs at this place deserves a 5 star. The Northwoods pasta was below average. It came with what was supposed to be a garlic bread, but had way too many herbs in the compound butter. Even with the pasta not being great, I would have given this place a 4 star, until the waitress came to refill the waters and filled it with something that had a greenish tint and looked like it had chunks of food in it. We had the great fortune to stop in during Octoberfest. I had the schnitzel which was prepared perfectly, moist and juicy while crispy on the outside then covered with sauce and large mushrooms. I ordered a Sprite and it tasted like a watered down kiddie cocktail. The food was fabulous and I have no complaints. The women's bathroom stalls were tiny and one of the sinks were leaking. Hofbrau- German food, no, American good eats, yup, you betcha. I went with a co-worker, after a friend told us about their deep fried pickle. This deep fried pickle inspires legends apparently (it's a spear, not a whole pickle, lol). Anyways, it is wrapped in ham & swiss (they were very nice and made me a non-ham one, yay) and deep fried in a won ton wrapper. Healthy, what's that? I had a personal pizza, and my boss had one of the chicken sandwiches. The portion sizes here are huge, I took half of my pizza home with me. The prices are average to higher, what can you do Northern Michigan style pricing? Highlight for us was the adult beverage served in a mason jar with a ginormous toy plastic/rubber dolphin, see drinks menu for the toy drinks section. Apparently, the dolphin drink isn't even on the menu, it is mango something and costs like 8.99. So, overpriced if you are just ordering it for the toy (which you could probably get at the dollar store or a party store). For the novelty, and for a person who is obsessed with dolphins or knows someone who is obsessed by those awesome creatures, this is friggin amazing. Also, the patio seating looked nice, but it was windy out. Also, the outdoor seating is along a quasi-busy road, though this is Interlochen (so mainly busy on concert nights, folks). I saw something about half off the menu on Tuesdays, but this doesn't apply on concert nights. As some menu offerings cost a pretty penny, this would probably be worth checking out. Love this place. The food is typical up-north food. Fish and chips, prime rib, pizza, etc... The pizza is my favorite, but I've tried most their menu and its all very good. The atmosphere is pretty nice depending on what time you make it. The central interior room is very 'barish' and has several big screens up for trivia games (Yikes, i wish they'd scrap these). The side rooms are much better, but the northern room you can get seated next to the 'server alley' and it'll get kinda noisy. Never the less, everything else is perfect. Excellent selection of beers (Seasonal Bells beer FTW). Wait staff is a bit erratic but usually up to par with restaurants in the area. Love their nightly specials! This truly is a wonderful restaurant with a great, lodge-y, up north atmosphere. Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because the past couple of times at the Hoffie we have had some poor servers, but that would not deter us from coming back.
