How someone manages to make a roast beef sandwich taste like absolutely nothing is beyond me. My partner had a terrible stomach ache for the rest of the night after eating his entree. Our dinner at this establishment was fantastic. We had a reservation and our table was ready upon our arrival. Drinks were promptly served, and I can say that my Long Island iced tea was large and flavorful. We started with the fried zucchini appetizer, which was amazing. Bread service followed. There were many options of bread and way more needed for the 4 of us, but no one complains about too much bread. Then came our meals, which were huge! My veal Parmesan was incredible and the penne with it paired well with the meal. Everyone was equally satisfied with their dinners, and we all had to take home leftovers. I regularly dine here with family and friends. The service and atmosphere is always superb but relaxed. The various specials and the special early menu mean I can dine here often without gettting tired of the same dishes. It's definitely an older crowd and families for those wanting a nice, relaxed sit-down dinner. The full bar and drink specials are nice also. The awkwardness of eating the shrimp through the sauce, would be easier and less messy if the tails were removed. Ordered the filet and it was cooked correctly and again put on a cold plate. Well rough night at hoffstotts. 2 hours for us to finish a meal of a cup of soup and a piece of salmon special. Also despite it being 55 degrees outside the restaurant had itsAC fully cranked and we sat in our coats. FREEZING. asked to have it turned off and it was for five minutes. Then back to Arctic levels. Great lunch today with delightful friendly bartender, Samantha. I had the special which was an Italian melt sandwich on sourdough bread with seasoned steak fries and a side of coleslaw for $12.99. It was quite delicious. I also HAD to try their pear martini made with fresh pear nectar and loved it. I have a hard time finding a pear martini around here so was excited to see it on the menu. Having returned for a meal at Hoffstot's after being out of the area for several years, I wondered if this was the same restaurant I had good memories of. The food was boring and bore a weak resemblance to the menu descriptions. The pistachio pesto did not resemble any pesto I have seen. But the kicker was my underwhelming Caesar salad that I added shrimp to. The menu said +5 ( add breaded shrimp). The waitress came back and said she hated to say that was for 1 shrimp. They sounded good since they were described as golden breaded shrimp so I added Two for $10. What came was two naked looking shrimp- no breading- barely grilled. Honestly!? Had dinner reservations at 6pm - took almost 1/2 hour to get seated. The server wasn't sure if we were her table or not & it didn't get any better from there. The service was slow, the server was unhelpful with menu item questions, & clearly didn't listen to our requests. When the food came out it was delivered sporadically & all meals were incomplete. I hesitated to write this review. My family has been coming here for decades. Danny and Tommy knew us by name, always warmly greeted us, and stopped by our table to make sure everything was ok. We've had many celebrations here as well as the wakes for my mom and dad. It was a favorite restaurant of theirs. My brother even worked here for a few years. With Danny's passing, the restaurant is under new ownership. The food is still good and most of the wonderful staff remain. But there are exceptions. I made a dinner reservation several weeks ago. When I checked in for it, I was told they had no record of it but would see what they could do. I understand mistakes happen and wasn't all that bothered by this. But you know what did bother me?, the rudeness and lack of concern by the manager that I spoke with when I went back to see how they were progressing in finding us a table. Her accusatory tone, visible irritation, and attempts to blame me for the mistake were disappointing. I won't go into the theatrical gymnastics she attempted to "prove" I hadn't made a reservation. Beyond being unnecessary, they were were rude and demeaning. While they did find us a table and our server was fantastic, my interaction with this manager hung like a dark cloud over what should have been an enjoyable family dinner. I've been coming to this restaurant since its inception many years ago. We came in on Sunday and had the pasta special. That was just so good. The tomato basil cream sauce can be eaten with a spoon. The lasagna, which is a half order, is still plenty food for a grown man. I love the Italian bread that is served too. I have usually ordered the shrimp Monaco over the years and it is still probably one of my favorites but for the price the spaghetti special was just too tempting. A local, casual Italian restaurant that's been in business nearly 45 years. It's outside of downtown in a quaint suburb area near the river, and offers a superb evening meal, plus I got a bonus chatting with a few locals who have been coming here for years! Moderately priced, expect to spend $15-25pp for dinner entree depending what you select or desire, plus any other courses and drinks. Reservations recommended! Chose to dine at their bar area tonight (has great friendly service), having an appetizer, salad and entree - it was all excellent I'd give 4.5 rating overall! Started with house-made meatballs with marinara (tomato gravy); ordered individually, these were plump, very tender to cut with a fork and flavorful! These could be a meal in itself, or have 'em with pasta. A highlight of this experience was their fresh, warm bread basket served with a homemade "dipping" sauce, consisting of olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, pistachios and a few spices - amazing to me! They sell this by the jar if interested to take some home. Caesar salad was traditional, dressing tasty and not overdressed in the salad. For entree, wanted to have something different, so stayed with the pistachio theme pasta, adding grilled salmon (added expense). The fusilli pasta was cooked just right, tossed with fresh spinach, tomatoes and pistachios in light oil - this was outstanding. My one call out was that my salmon was slightly over cooked, so it was tasty but a bit dry. Overall, wonderful and filling meal! Topped it off with a scoop of "death by chocolate" ice cream, a locally made favorite that was creamy and good. Hadn't been by in a while and was driving past and we were hungry, so my son and I swung in for a bite. Seated pretty quickly although we didn't have a reservation. Unfortunately we were seated in the first booth by the front station and doorway, which made for some cold blasts of air when folks entered or left. Not a great spot to get in the cold of winter. Our server seemed at first to be rather disinterested in displaying any personality at all...I mean flat aspect and monotone minimal talk. She only improved slightly when it was closer to bill - and tip - time. The food was decent...the lad had lasagna that presented poorly but tasted okay by his report. My pecan crusted cod was decent. The bread and tomato-based dipping oil was good. He did enjoy his shrimp-based soup and my salad was fine with the house vinaigrette. His water was left un-refilled for longer than it should have been. She took care of my coffee okay. Food decent, service largely unimpressive. Cost quite low. My husband and I frequent Hoffstot's regularly because we enjoy the food and the service. Former colleagues and I get together for dinner at least once a quarter and meet at The Lot, right up the street because it's central for me in the east and each of them in the north. Someone suggested that we try another restaurant and for me, it was a no-brainer, I recommended Hoffstot's. We had a 6:30 reservation and when I arrived at 6:24 there were a number of people waiting to be seated. I checked in with one of three hostesses who advised we would be seated closer to the time of our reservation; not sure how much closer you can get than 6:24 but ok. As more and more people were seated, my friends questioned whether or not they all had reservations (maybe they did, maybe they didn't) but as 7:00 approached they were ready to leave and head up the road to The Lot. Just as that decision was being made, Jamie got my attention, asked how many in my party and had us seated in the adjoining dining room. I write this review not to in any way bash the hostesses (who I do believe were inexperienced and overwhelmed) but to commend Jamie and acknowledge the service she provided. In spite of me assuring my friends of how good the food and service have typically been, had Jamie not intervened this could have been a one and done (or not at all) visit for them to Hoffstot's, but Jamie's service and attention made their dining experience enjoyable and each of them said because of her they would return. I know no one cares, including this restaurant, but I had the worst service I've ever had as a solo diner. I sat at the bar. I had to wait a few minutes for a drink--usual, standard. I had to ask for a menu--less usual, less standard. And it quickly devolved from there. I stopped looking at the menu after about five minutes. For the next (at least) fifteen minutes, I proceeded to watch the bartender get refills for existing parties, clean, welcome two new separate guests and get them drinks (immediately, I might add), serve two different parties meals, and make drinks for dining table customers. During the course of his commendable acts as a bartender, he did not interact with me again, yet he walked past me several times when I was clearly ready to order. He can do his job well, I watched it happen, but he apparently decided not to provide me service. I asked another staff member to get me the check as I was no longer interested in dining there, and she was also less than hospitable to me. It means I'm getting a small bite at each place in the neighborhood that I love. Today I'm having braised escarole because it's absolutely the best. MY FAMILY DIDN'T ESCAPE THE POTATO FAMINE FOR THIS... In 2019, my family and I moved to Oakmont after exploring the area and loving our first lunch at Hoffstots. My wife and I sat, enjoyed our lunch and the great service and were excited about our decision to move our family here. We enjoyed a lot of families meals at Hoffstots. That was 2019 and a long time ago. I understand COVID has happened and the effect is had on small business, especially restaurants. I get inflation. But the service/quality has gone down considerably. In the last year the scrod sandwiches have gotten smaller and smaller. Prices have gone up. In the last 3 orders I have gotten less and less fries with my order. It's the same with other meals. But the Scrod happens to be my most consistent order. In this last order I got 11 fries in my basket, ELEVEN. It takes me a lot to complain about food from a restaurant I love. Everybody screws up every now and again. And it takes even more for me to write a review, and I generally make good ones. But when I called to inquire, we were told 11 fries is accurate because they measure by weight. Please look at this picture and I dare you not to laugh hysterically. I draw the line at messing with my fries. Please get it together Hoffstots. PS - The manager was willing to give me a desert to help offset my lack of fried taters. She was also friendly and professional. We didn't have an unpleasant conversation. But I don't need a free desert. I don't need a free anything. Honestly we thought there was NO WAY the manager knew that this was going on and it was some sort of miscommunication with the kitchen staff. What could I possibly be ordering that would make them think I wanted a toddlers French fry basket?? If she would have pretended that she didn't know this was happening and vowed to look into it, I certainly wouldn't have written this review. I would have gone to sleep (hungry) but satisfied I helped a local business figure out some defect in their process. I'd hate to think of Big Mike from across the street ordering the same and getting robbed. He'd freak. Our first time at Hoffstot's and it was enjoyable. The staff was nice and we went during downtime, so seating was plentiful. That being said, it took a long time for our waitress to wait on us. With only four people, we were there for 2 hours, with most of it waiting for our food to be cleared and to get our check. Although somewhat frustrating, the food was pretty good. I got the pistachio pasta and it was extremely good. But there was more spinach than pasta, so I large amount of spinach leftover. I would probably get something different next time just to try the other food! read more

Meh. Stuffy. Used to be better. Lots of Oakmont blue hairs go there so the food is generally bland and pretty over cooked. Bartenders really need to attend a few mixology classes because they aren't much good if you order anything more complicated than a jack and Coke or gin and tonic. read more

Wasn't that impressed but also not surprised based on the reviews. We got one of the sandwiches, which was decent, and a burger which sat in its own juices for long enough to leave the bun sad and soggy. The fries were a weird dark shade which turned out to be because they were more or less soaked in grease; you could squeeze it out of the fry. Our service was alright, but the table next to us was forgotten about and ended up waiting twenty minutes before someone even came to their table. At least we can say we tried it. read more

We usually go here every New Year's Eve to have dinner with friends & also celebrate special occasions. This year on New Year's Eve we went for Dinner we like we always do. In past years we might have only waited 15 minutes for our table on New Year's Eve. There is something really wrong when you have your reservation for 630 & were not seated until 7:50. There was hardly any room to wait. It was so crowded standing there When I addressed this long wait with the Manager she said "of course they overbooked because they don't want empty tables & this is their bread and better". She was so rude. When we finally sat down the older gentleman Server wasn't very nice either. We had to ask him what the Specials were & he hardly returned back to our table. We spent well over $100.00 here & they ruined our New Years Eve. We did not leave there until 10:10. We had reservations for 6:30 I emailed them & they have never contacted me. They have a computer reservation system & they should of never overbooked like this. We were not the only ones who were waiting forever. We were so disappointed. We will not be returning again. Our waiter was uninterested, took nearly 45 minutes just to take our order, assumed that one of our guests was related to another guest (which they were NOT) and even took a guests salad away as she was eating it.
