Anniversary dinner... party of six Sunday afternoon. Three appetizers Fried Calamari, Fried Artichokes, and Sweet Stuffed Peppers all were excellent. Entrees were Shrimp Monaco, Eggplant Parm, Pistachio Chicken, Roast beef Sandwich, and the Blackenzola (filet w cheese on top)...everything tasted great with a very nice waiter. Had sub par lunch here today. Our server was excellent however the food was not good at all. We ordered the artichoke & crab appetizer which was good however the salads we ordered were, in my opinion, an embarrassing representation of Hoffstots. The iceberg wedge barely had anything on it, including dressing and a few TINY flecks (literally) of bacon. Sparce dressing had no flavor at all. Two tiny grape tomatoes cut in half. My friend had the Cesar salad with again, no flavor. She added a few pieces of shrimp for an outrageous additional charge. Water and iced tea, no alcohol, no dessert. I called Hoffstot's to place an order for pick-up. They told me that the food would be ready in 30 minutes, and it was brought out to my car on time. The employees were courteous, but they handwrote my credit card number on a piece of paper. Here are my ratings for the food: Lasagna - 1 star - The menu said that the lasagna would contain pork and beef, but it actually contained only soggy cheese. My husband and I took a few bites, and we threw away the rest of the lasagna. Crab cakes - 4 stars - The crab cakes contained a good amount of meat but also a small amount of shell, and my husband said that they needed a bit more flavor. Chicken parmigiana - 1.5 stars - This chicken was not breaded but rather was covered in egg batter. We did not enjoy the taste, so we threw away much of the food. Filet mignon - 4 stars - The chef cooked the steak medium-rare as we had requested. There was some seasoning on top that tasted OK. Sides - 4 stars - Our sides included green beans, bread, mashed potatoes, a baked potato, and french fries. My husband particularly enjoyed the flavorful and crispy french fries. Overall rating - 3 stars - For two people, we ordered four entrees, which were supposed to be for lunch and dinner at home. We ended up eating the food for only lunch and throwing the rest away. The overall price for the food plus a 15% tip was $136. My husband called Hoffstot's a "flop". Well, some of the food tasted good. read more

Thank you Ivy and Krista at the bar predinner for excellent beverages and service and photo too! Trish was our server for the seven of us Tuesday night and she was fabulous. We had the best of everything with her . Outstanding service, friendly, accommodating, and If she wasn't on the job she could have joined our group! Her recommendations were perfect! I had new on the menu Chilean sea bass and it was delectable. It had a bit of sweetness which I am very picky about but it complemented it totally! Two sides included which I had a delish salad and penne pasta. My leader of the pack male friend enjoyed a hearty pork chop with a stuffed hot banana pepper atop marinara sauce on the whole dish and looked amazing. Another female friend had the best risotto ever she said and it was delish. I tasted it! Plates of cod fish looked done perfectly golden brown. Lasagna looked yummy and pasta too. Soups and salads were excellent The wafer after dinner thin sweetness is divine and always look forward to those. No coffee this trip! I've made several trips to Hoffstot's and the food has never disappointed. We stopped in before dinner on a Saturday afternoon for a couple drinks and while we were able to get seats at the bar, there were plenty of people starting to fill in. My drink was made well and my husband and I were always attended to quickly. There were at times, 3 bartenders taking orders so no one had to wait. In fact, I we never had to get any bartender's attention to be served. The restaurant and bar are lovely with old stained glass and vintage light fixtures. Hoffstot's is also in a great location, central in the main drag in Oakmont which made it easy for us to stop here for a drink and walk to our next destination. If you can overlook the rude people at the front desk the foods great. It's well known in the area that the hostess acts like she's doing you a favor by helping you , apparently it rubbed off on the rest of the staff because they all seem the same way. The servers as well as bartenders are courteous, friendly and helpful in event you can't decide from their wonderful menu items. All delectable in their own right. Nice find while traveling through this charm of a town (though crazy traffic back ups starting at about 3pm, but nothing to do with this sweet restaurant). Looked like they had rented the main restaurant area for parties so we only had the pub seating to choose from, which was fine. We did wait a little longer to get our order in and then to get our meals, but nothing too extreme. The waitress was generally efficient but not friendly. The meals were decent and filling. Nothing exceptional but good. Prices were par. My Rubin Sandwich (which I hadn't had one in yrs) hit the spot. The slaw was fine, but we prefer it a bit more mayo creamy and no radish in it (or whatever made it bitty). French Fries we're ample too. But over all, plenty of food. The penni with mushroom and spinach I understand was tasty. The side salad two of us split was very good, and the pasta dish another person ordered was fine (just had to ask the waitress to add some fresh ground Parmesan cheese to it, with a little more salt/pepper and it was more savory. The food is delicious. Generous portions. Great service. I had my rehearsal dinner here. Brian, the head chef, worked wonderfully with us to create a menu and everyone absolutely loved the food. The grilled pork chops were a big hit. I loved the crab cakes. The tiramisu dessert was to die for. Everyone loved the little meatball appetizers and spinach dip. The service, ( Sam ) was great, quite a long wait on entrees. . The food was delicious. I had the Cajon filet with blue cheese and balsamic sauce. The blue cheese and balsamic were a bit heavy handed , and the Cajon seasoning was light. All in all a great meal. My wife had the scallops in pasta which were very good. Have been here twice, both times have been great. Was here yesterday for lunch. They have a decent selection of options for lunch and everything is reasonably priced, especially the drinks. Our service was great. The restaurant space is a bit of a throwback inside which is pretty cool. I had the Coconut Chicken Salad which was fantastic. Went to Hoffstot's cafe to celebrate my birthday. This is the second time I've dined here and it was quite satisfying each time. The prices and portions are very reasonable. I ordered the little piggy pork chop that came with a salad and a side of pistachio pasta. The garlic, tomato, pistachio sauce on the pasta was perfect. The banana peppery grilled flavor on the pork chop tasted great. I think I ordered this both times I went. The bread and the oil that comes along with it is fantastic. They should bottle up that sauce and sell it. The seafood pasta had a decent flavor and was loaded with bits of crab, calamari, and clams.. I hunk everyone was satisfied with their meals. The beans and greens made an excellent appetizer as well. This place is a great local spot for a decent meal that will leave you satisfied at reasonable prices. I truly enjoyed my Lunch at this place. Our waitress (Terry) was a complete delight. She was very supportive of me - being my first time at this location. I was escorted by a dear friend who suggested this place for Greens and Beans! Terry was fantastic - we had a bit of local bread and sweet and spicy peppers. The pepper were good. The bread was great. When we got the greens and beans - my friend used it like a spread and smeared it on the bread - delicious. Then I had a great Pittsburgh salad with steak and French fries on top. Terry suggested the Ranch and Italian dressing mixed on the salad - sooo good. I hate giving this only 3 stars, but only the service kept me from giving it 2. My husband and I have been dining here for several decades and have always considered it one of our top three restaurants in the area. This past week we had dinner there after a lengthy hiatus due to some health problems. We were excited to be able to finally enjoy a great meal after such a long time. The meal truly disappointed. I had the salmon and my husband had the veal romano. Both of these dishes have been favorites of ours. The salmon was supposed to be maple glazed. It had no maple flavor at all and I didn't really detect a glaze of any kind. It was very bland. My husband could only describe the veal as "very lacking in something and also very bland". We only told the server because she asked, otherwise I may not have said anything. The place was also very loud. I felt like I was in the bar. However, the server was quite kind and told me she passed on my dissatisfaction, with the food, but that was the end of it. I will probably go back because every place has their off days and deserve a second chance, but because it's very pricey, I expect better. read more

So I haven't been to this place in a long time and we decided to stop here for dinner before heading to downtown Pittsburgh for a show. I made reservations a head of time so we were seated right away. Our waitress was excellent great service and my drink was always refilled quickly. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and the Shrimp Monaco for dinner. The calamari was delicious some of the best I ever had! The pieces were big lightly bothered and melted in your mouth. The house made marinara and mustard sauce that accompanied it were superb. As for dinner we split the Shrimp Monaco it came with 5 jumbo shrimp with lump crab meat on top. It was just enough for both of us and ended out meal perfectly I will be ordering it again! Came here again and hit up the early dinner menu tried the Salmon Wellington. Decided to dine here while waiting for the festivities at the Oakmont Hometown Christmas event to begin tonight. It has very nice ambiance, especially as it is decorated for the holidays with a wreath in the window and tasteful red bows distributed thoughout the place and the tables each have white linens on them. What is slightly disturbing is the age group all around me -- the over-50 crowd (note that includes myself). I did notice 2 tables of younger people with children, but in each case they had grandparents in tow. The problem with this scene is I don't want to be in a place that only attracts the older set; I want a place that is appealing to all age groups. Regardless, the food was quite good. I ordered the special recommended by my server, Marie, which was the pork wellington served with a pear and cranberry sauce. Sounded wonderful and Marie was excited to recommend it. It was good but the pear and cranberry concoction was barely noticeable. I also ordered a salad with raspberry vinegarette which was good. I ordered a glass of Reisling and it came in an ever-so-small glass. Come on, people -- a grown up glass would have been much better. And the Reisling wasn't the best I've had for house Reislings. The price was pretty low so I'd recommend they up the ante and serve a better quality. Four stars because I really liked the ambiance and it's the first time I've ever had any wellington dish. We've been going to Hoffstot's about once a week since March, when we finally felt confident about going out to restaurants again in the age of COVID. There are other restaurants we like, but we can't stay away from this place. It never disappoints. There's always a special in addition to the extensive regular menu, and tonight's was worthy of note: Seared halibut imaginatively served on a bed of spinach, orange sections, fresh figs and sprinkled with pignolia nuts. The fish was perfectly cooked and the whole dish was just delightful. The staff is excellent and, oh, that olive oil with ground sun dried tomatoes and pistachios--to die for, and always served with very fresh, very good bread. You don't need a reservation, but it's a good idea; we've been there on a Tuesday when the place was packed. read more

My absolute favorite place to eat in all of the greater Pittsburgh area. Amazing service, kind owner, lovely atmosphere, and wonderful chefs! It's a very quite place with a mostly older crowd on weekdays until around 7pm when the younger crowd picks up. On weekends, it's a constant mix of all ages. My suggestions: - Eggplant Parmesan - so good and a huge portion. Very good for sharing! I substitute the standard spaghetti pasta with fettuccine Alfredo. - Gorgonzola Apple Walnut salad - amazing, best salad - Beans and Greens - I don't think it's on the menu anymore, though I could be wrong, but it's amazing - Citrus Tea - literally the best drink you will ever have read more

There is a lot to like about this place. For starters, the menu is extensive, includes lots of seafood, chicken, and other healthier choices. The presentation is very well done. The chef must have studied somewhere, because the little presentation details on the plate remind me of fine dining in larger cities. The food itself is very good. Lots of interesting choices for ingredients. My dish tonight included a chicken breast with apples, onions, and yams with a maple reduction. Very good as you might imagine. Very crowded local's place in Oakmont with an intimate setting if you want to come out for date night -- I recommend making reservations, even during the week night because of this restaurant's popularity with the locals, it fills up quickly during the week AND weekends. The Gorgonzola Apple salad was excellent! The pasta dish with white sauce was excellent! Service was excellent! Nice restaurant! Crowded! What would make it a 10: Tables seem a little too close together with the wait staff and customers coming a little too close at times. Need a little bit more elbow room. Amazing food. I go nearly every week. However, I am tired of the negative staff in charge of the take-out orders. Take-out orders are handled by either the blonde lady or the new, young lady and they both seem to strongly dislike their jobs. I've eaten here before but it's been a very long time. I was not impressed. The waitstaff was wonderful, absolutely no complaints there. The food was decent but nowhere near worth what it cost. We had a large party of 12 and they don't split checks. This is certainly their right but highly inconvenient. It will be another long time before we eat here again. read more
