It's a holiday so I know things will be a little off and I was surprised that they were open! This is the first time ever coming in and I decided to get a pulled pork sandwich. On the holidays you have to carry out only I did not know that when I ordered but after I had already ordered, they let me know. I live nearby, so I figured that was fine. The place has been there for a long time. It did have a greasy spoon look. The inside needs an update. They need an update on that but at the same time if their main focus is food and most people don't care I guess keep it the same. The ladies waiting on me were friendly, but also seemed a little confused on what they were to do. The one lady said she was new, so I get it. I got a pulled pork sandwich, french fries, and they were out of their potato salad, so I got coleslaw which cost $1.50. When my husband and I got to the car I looked in the bag and saw that the coleslaw was literally two bites. I went to the local grocery store and got $.75 worth of coleslaw, which gave me a lot more. I personally like to put the coleslaw on top of my pulled pork. I got home and was very impressed with the pulled pork sandwich. The sandwich was huge and piled full of meat. It was a very good price and they gave you a lot of french fries as well. The only thing that I was a little bummed about was that their $1.50 coleslaw that I ate and two bites was actually pretty terrible. It was very dry and bland. I'm glad I went to the grocery store to get creamy coleslaw because the stuff they sell really isn't worth that price. Anyway, I would still come back for a pulled pork sandwich or a big pork chop because their meat has a great taste to it and the barbecue sauce was good. Pulled pork was nice and tender and delicious.

Yummy and tender! Met the owner Dave and he explained how he started the Cajun Pork Chop. Hey my friendly neighbor treated me to something special and this was a porkeating experience . So if you feel guilty about eating Pork do not eat the rib tips or the pork chop because you will fall in Love and rethink your whole life beliefs. The BBQ meat was so juicy and tender my 89 year old mom could chew. I never had large pork tips so tender. Every bite was flavorful and soothing to chew. I will be back. I highly recommend you get over the Pork guilt and this BBQ can help. Each piece had a char taste with the gristle being tasty. Maybe he brine his meat but the cut is top choice. It worth treating yourself to some good ribs!

Such tender, well seasoned ribs!! We got these for my moms bday. They were ready within 20 minutes of ordering and so good! A Dyer gem!

Chicken and rib tips combo! Good for 2 meals or 1 epiphany.

My stomach was eating itself after Carnegie Deli in NYC refused to ship me a pastrami and tongue sandwich....so I begrudgingly "plan B'd" it for my fatty meal of the week. I rolled the dice and went for the tips and half chicken combo with 4 sides. I spent 49 cents extra to opt in beans instead of fries for one of those sides and yet still felt like slapping NYC on the subway for snubbing me. I mean...I wanted the pastrami and tongue so bad I could SMELL IT!!! That was all I could think about. ....and then I opened my carryout box and instantly forgot to take a photo. Talk about a distraction! I gave the first tip to my boss and devoured 2 more before even thinking about my camera. So, half full of tips, I'm sitting there with some plasticware...looking at a nicely charred half chicken and thinking "how's this gonna go down?" Answer? Like butter! I could have separated that bird easily with a broken spork. By this time I'm completely absorbed in how to consume this feast and have totally forgotten about NYC and the whole reconciliation thing. Turns out the only thoughts on my mind were: 1 - I've found someone who makes bone-in chicken as well or perhaps better than me. and 2 - This is about to get uncomfortable for those around me. Simple fact - Hog Haven slapped me in the face today with a reminder that good things come to those who wait and that this place is a serious contender for my top 5 BBQ joints in greater Chicagoland!

Called ahead for order to be picked up, arrived at the counter 15 min after call to pick up food, waited at counter for 10 min while the guy and gal chit-chat in the back. I mentioned about soup and was told no soup. What I see in the steamer was baked beans, I wasn't asked or offered any to add to my order at that time. My food was sitting out on the counter packed in a bag. Not under any type of warmer. Total was given $44.91. When he handed me the bag it felt very light for 3 half rib dinners. Upon arriving home and opening boxes I find very small half slabs, a small handful of hard fries (no extra sauce) ribs are supposed to be messy, make you use several napkins. This was not the case with Hog Haven. The coleslaw was very strong vinegar and thin sauce. I called the restaurant to talk with the guy, he says "we sell a lot of ribs, can't make everyone happy" Live and learn.....will stick with the out of the way places even if I have to drive farther next time...... I had hi hopes this local business would have earned my money, but I feel as if all they did was take it and not deliver on what should have been.

One of the best places in the Region for carry-out, fall-off-the-bone, ribs. Also has some of the best cole slaw you can get.

It was very dry, it almost made you want to choke thats how dry it was. The fries had TONS of seasoning. It was an overkill though. I couldn't even eat them because there was so much salt on them like 10x more than there should be. Same problem with the okra. The Mac and cheese was super weird. The only thing that was good was the Dr Pepper, garlic toast and the smoked turkey was ok. Maybe it's my fault for ordering later in the night, because nothing tasted fresh. The service was good, the guy working was friendly. Sad I wasted so much money though.

To be a little fair in this review, I did order from DoorDash for delivery. The delivery took an extremely long time so much. I had to complain about the DoorDash driver. However, the food quality was very poor. The brisket was tough. The chicken was a smaller portion than I thought. The okra was decent, but very salty. And the barbecue sauce was great so that was probably the best part, the spicy was extremely spicy though. I also ordered the side of mac & cheese. I've had better mac & cheese, many other places, but it was OK. It also came with a side of toast, but that wasn't anything to write home about. If you're looking for good barbecue, there's so many other places that have better barbecue than a place that has barbecue title such as dickies. I do have to say the dickies barbecue in Texas at most locations are 10 times better.

To get there from DeKalb by air, I had to dog-leg the flight over Cushing Field (to stay out of the Aurora and Lockport airspace) and then head east from there. Make sure you remember the CTAF (you'll need it to get back on the airport), and go through the gate, go up the elevator, and walk into the restaurant. Ambiance-wise, this place has large windows, a very large bar, a Namco Ms. Pac Man / Galaga game, bathrooms that are reasonably clean, some gambling machines, and decent food.
