Great spot for oysters! The oysters were fresh and delicious, and I definitely recommend trying the mixed grilled oysters, they were the highlight of the meal and something I would order again. I also tried the fried fish sandwich, which unfortunately wasn't my favorite. It fell apart as soon as I picked it up, making it pretty difficult to eat. Service was great, friendly and attentive, and there's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, which is a nice option depending on the weather. I have been seeing all the Instagram videos about Hog Island and they have been making me crave oysters so badly! I finally was able to come and visit on the way back from camping and this hit the spot. I got here with my friend in the evening on a Monday night. The restaurant was about an hour from close, but that restaurant was completely full. Their service was all right, but I think they just had a full house. It's definitely a spot that I would take a date or enjoy a girls night out. It's by the water and has a beautiful view. The parking lot had a ton of spots, so don't worry too much unless you're coming on a busy weekend. The only issue that I had was that the bathroom is not on site. It is a little further of a walk, but it is something to know. Their bread and butter was delicious and I also got the oyster sampler platter as well as the clam chowder. Bread and butter is always delicious. The oysters hit the spot after camping and I can't remember which ones I got, but I'm already thinking about the next time I come back. The clam chowder is a little different than most, but it was creamy and a little soupier. I enjoyed the taste and it had fresh clams in it. When I first got it, I thought that I wouldn't be as full as I was at the end. The clam chowder does have toasted bread for an additional cost, but I chose to opt out with the bread and butter that I ordered. Thankfully, I had the bread to also dip in the soup. My friend got the clam spaghetti and she thought it was good but she wishes it was a little more saucy. Any day is a perfect day to spend the day with my brother. Overdue, we made our way to Hog Island Oyster Larkspur. First time for us both here. The wait was 20-25 minutes to be seated outside. We provided our cell number to receive a text when our table was ready. Text received. Host was friendly and seated us promptly. There were two outdoor areas for Hog Island - a smaller, narrower seating area that held parties up to 4 and a larger tented, barn style area that accommodated parties exceeding 5. The table we were seated at was small, requiring us to rearrange our setting multiple times to accommodate dishes and drinks received. Even though the space was rather quaint, we avoided being bumped into. Conversations are far from private, we heard a lot. Our order of two drinks - a Manhattan ($17) and Spicy Pineapple margarita ($16) - along with a food order of a dozen half shell oysters ($48), four grilled oysters ($18), a fried fish sandwich ($24) and a rustic seafood stew ($36). Our drinks were perfectly made and perfect for a relaxing day. At $16 for a margarita in a martini glass was devastating to say the least. Highly cheap on the part of Hog Island. The same could be said for my brother's customized drink in a martini glass at $17. The oysters on a half shell were shared between two, enjoyed by both. The oysters were perfectly shucked - free of an unwanted crunch from shell pieces. They were fresh, large and delicious. The grilled oysters were prepared just right, not over grilled with a juicy finish. The chipotle sauce overpowered the oyster and the garlic oil was the ultimate compliment to enhance the natural flavor of the oyster. I am not a fan of cooked oysters, these were prepared to complement the oyster (minus our chipotle selection). There was also a miso butter option, my husband had visited previously and said it was too salty. My brother devoured his fish sandwich, said it was juicy, crunchy and well prepared. The bun was soft and slightly sweet complimenting his fish burger. Hod order came with a side of fries. My rustic seafood stew was slightly disappointing. The mussels, clams, shrimp and lingcod were prepared perfectly but there was not a lot to enjoy at $36. I did not expect a lot, just a little more than the portion received. I fished through the tomato base looking for missed seafood. With these bites there was a lot of crunching from shell bits. This part discouraged me from continuing to look for missed pieces of seafood. I am not a fan of crunchy soup that is not intended to be as such. Overall we had a beautiful experience. Our waiter was comical, the view was beautiful, the weather warm with kisses of breeze and the company shared with my brother couldn't have made it any more perfect. We would definitely return again. Apple Pay is accepted as the payment system is brought to the table. I'm sure other mobile forms of payment are accepted too. Gift cards can be purchased at the register where you check in with a hostess. Hoping my daughter's teacher enjoys our appreciation of her when she visits. Absolute gem of a place! Located in the plaza which means lots of parking! We decided to sit outside since the weather has been so nice and we loved it. The indoor and outdoor area is beautiful and we got to choose where we wanted to sit and the servers didn't have any issues with it. We've been to the Napa, SF and Tomales Bay location so we knew exactly what to order and they didn't disappoint ! The oysters were fresh and perfectly shucked. We had a dozen each and wanted to order more but stopped ourselves since we had ordered other items. Passed this location many times and finally decided to check it out! It was a nice day, so we sat on the patio. Service was ok. Two people in my group ordered clam chowder plus an entree and they were brought out together. By the time they finished their soup, their entree was cold. Late lunch at the picnic table in the tented area. The food was good: grilled rockfish on a bed of couscous sautéed with zucchini, corn kernels and a bit of arugula. My husband had the fish tacos. Our servers were friendly, cheerful and attentive. My objection was the way the initial receptionist/greeter treated my husband. She seated the couple in front of us, holding a finger up to my husband to indicate she would be right back. She came back to her station, did not look up and did not acknowledge my husband who was now first in line. She left and a young man replaced her at the reception. By this time, I was standing beside my husband and asking if we could be seated in the tented area. No problem. We were seated. My husband told me he had been ignored by the young lady receptionist. I asked him how he felt about this. He said he felt badly and it was maybe because he looked disabled with his cane. He said some people can feel uncomfortable with disability. Not bad! We usually go to the location in SF Embarcadero, but wanted to venture out this time. Was a Saturday afternoon during lunch hour; saw the lot was full and farmers market was going on. At first no one acknowledged me and the kids walking in and wasn't sure if we should seat ourself. Had to ask two different persons what to do to get a seat. A few minutes later I saw the host and she said oh yea we got a table for two adults and 3 lil kiddos! This is a pro (considering in SF you can wait up to half an hour!). Shout out to the chefs, Youssef- quirky guy, and Khephra- loved that she chatted w the kiddos! Sweet folks who were attentive, personable, quick to respond to whatever the boss babies needed! They even brought out slices of oranges since the kiddos were eyeing it in our Old Fashioned cocktails! Happy the food came out quick! Youssef even recommended dessert and brought out the bread pudding - never considered dessert but he knew this would make the boss babies happy (couldn't take a pic, was gone in seconds!). I always go to hog island and get their Calabrian chili oysters and will recommend it to anyone! I have also tried their fish tacos which taste great. The only thing I would say is that this last time I went I tried their clam chowder and was not a fan at all. I am used to a thicker form, their clam chowder was watery milk with potatoes, clams etc... it came with no bread either (I think if you wanted bread you need to pay an extra $2-$3) you will NOT get full with this dish either so for the price I think it should include even a small side of bread. We ordered the oysters and fish tacos -- the oysters were very fresh and definitely the highlight of the meal. First off I can't believe I haven't left a review before. I have been to this spot many times and it's one of my families fav places to go to celebrate an event or to just venture out. Oysters are always great especially the sweet waters. We have some usual menu items we tend to get one of those is the Cesar salad - but this time it's different. Not chopped but whole leaves with garlic breadcrumbs and anchovy dressing. I don't like the change there are no whole anchovies and the dressing is mild compared without it. The breadcrumbs just made for a messy experience as you're trying to cut the large leaves. Tasty but if it remains like this I will not order again. Oysters are always great and we tried the grilled this time - chipotle honey butter and the nori miso butter both amazing !! I had the clam spaghetti which was great but wish they added some toasted bread to soak up all that sauce. Bloody Marys are really great as well. Happy hour is great to grab oysters ! This is my first time at a hog island and I loved it! It was way less crowded than the Ferry Building location - there was no wait on a Sunday afternoon for an outdoor table. I was nervous about parking, but it was super easy to find spots in the shopping malls lot. There's plenty of heated outdoor seating which was great since we brought our dog. For food we ordered some baked oysters, lobster bisque, and seafood stew. I loved the flavors of the oysters and the were succulent and juicy. The lobster bisque was a little cold and too heavy on the cream for me. The seafood stew was classic, and great for sharing. I'm OBSESSED with Hog Island Oyster over at the ferry building, so I was super excited to see another location when I was in the Larkspur area! It was a nice, sunny day so we opted to sit on their front patio. I visited with my BF and we weren't too hungry; we were just stopping by for the vibes lol. We got 6 oysters and an order of clam chowder to share. Hog Island Oyster's clam chowder is my fav! Regarding the food: the oysters were DELICIOUS. They ran out of kumamotos so we just went with the "variety pack" of whatever they had available. Every single piece was plump and buttery smooth. Not too briny! The chowder fell a little flat on the other hand... it just lacked the amount of depth that I loved so much from the other location. They're located in Marin County Mart so they're surrounded by a good amount of stores if you're planning on hanging around in the area too! I can't believe I've been sleeping on this restaurant. We often frequent the Hog Island location in Tomales Bay to pick up bulk oysters, but just never had the chance to check out the restaurant until recently. I totally regret not going sooner. Come to this restaurant if you're craving deliciously fresh and clean seafood. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The only amenity lacking here is that they don't have a bathroom in the restaurant itself. You'll have to make the trek to the plaza's public bathroom that's a short walk away. Just a slight inconvenience. My favorites here are the Kumamoto oysters, baked oysters for a twist, and the steamed mussels. The one dish that blew us away the most were the mussels. They were large, juicy, and bathed in a succulent herby white wine sauce. These mussels were literally the best I've ever had, and I still think about them randomly as the months go by. read more

I've been to other Hog Island locations and had a much better experience, but the Larkspur spot was disappointing. The grilled oysters came out overcooked and still somehow managed to make us feel sick afterwards (nausea, stomach issues). The clam chowder had good flavor but was way too thin--closer to a soup than chowder. I also tried the burger, which wasn't very filling or memorable. On top of that, the beer selection was pretty limited, service felt lackluster, and the bill included a 5% "employee wellness" fee, which of course is extortion. Came here after a day out at Point Reyes partly because it was one of the only places that allowed dogs. We were seated outside pretty quickly after parking (the lot is quite large with several stores and restaurants around the area). The area is beautiful with nice views of the water and the restaurant has a New England type feel to it. The outside seating, especially with a dog, was kind of cramped and did pose some problems when our dog was a little more squirmy that day - something to note if you wanna bring a furry friend here. As for the food, we ordered some oysters (1/2 hog island local sweetwater + the special of the day), a fish sandwich and fries, and fish risotto. The Oysters were sweet and fresh, not too briny, with a great sauce to put over the top. The sandwich was crispy but nothing super special, but I really loved the risotto with fish. Creamy and luscious and definitely would order again. The service was also really nice and gracious with us having the dog. They also came around and offered us water or sparkling water, but didn't mention that the sparkling water was $8 extra, so we unknowingly chose that option and were surprised when the bill came around. The waiter, when I asked about it, did say that "oh sparkling water is always extra" which did make me feel a little foolish (I have been to a few restaurants that have offered sparkling and did not charge extra so I didn't think any differently here if they offered it as if it was a complimentary option - or maybe I'm just dumb and naive???). However, the waiter ended up saying, it's ok and comped the water since we truly didn't know (I ended up tipping the difference anyways as thanks). I decided to stop by for lunch after wandering around the farmers market. They opened at 11 and already a line was forming. I was seated promptly. I opted for the bar area since I was solo. I was immediately greeted and brought a menu and water. I ordered the fish and chips (which aren't on the menu) it was fried perfectly without a lot of greasy breading. The fish was plump, I was given 3 nice sized portions. It comes with a side of fries. They had a few doors and open and there was a refreshing breeze coming in. The restaurant has a nice nautical theme. I enjoy watching the workers shuck oysters with ease. The parking is plentiful but can get full as the day goes on. We absolutely love the food and location at Hog Island Oysters, but unfortunately the service during our visit was truly disappointing and frustrating. Our server started things off by misplacing our order -- we had asked for the fish tostadas as mains, but instead received two orders of shishito peppers. It went downhill from there. We tried to place a to-go order for fish and chips early on, but the server insisted multiple times -- at least five -- that it was a "quick two-minute cook" and told us to wait. That turned out to be totally inaccurate. We eventually paid, stood around awkwardly at our table waiting, and still no to go order. A woman who appeared to be a manager or owner was walking by abd we asked if she knew how long the to go order would take. said she'd check -- well, she says the fish and chips had just gone into the fryer. It was frustrating, and honestly, it felt like she was annoyed at us for asking. Maybe the server was just really busy. I don't know. What really rubbed us the wrong way was the attitude. The server not only comped the mistaken shishito peppers to a different table (fair enough), but then brought the other mistaken order over to us -- after I saw him walk away with it and return inside. When we hadn't touched them, he actually scolded us and told us to eat them. We'll likely return for the food, which is consistently great, but we hope they work on service training. When in CA in March we had to stop at Hog Island for some oysters! We were heading to San Fran and got here before the rush! It fills up fast. We wanted to be in and out in 30 minutes or less to not hit horrible traffic. Great success! This place was the typical cute and nautical. We bellied up to the oyster bar and ordered our oysters. I'm sure our server hasn't had many people that want to eat a few oysters and get out of there quick. That's how we roll. We tried the Hog Island CA oysters that were available. The Sweetwater and the Earthquake Bay. Both were really tasty with the mignonette. I think I preferred the Sweetwater and wished I lived nearby to get more now! I will be back! Also, we overheard a regular order some of the Grilled oysters so we had to try! The Chipotle Bourbon was our favorite and tasted bbq-y (we were surprised!) but you can't go wrong with Paris Butter Grilled Oysters. I had a solo lunch here at the bar and it was such a great experience - Yusef took care of me and was so pleasant! I asked some silly questions (like, are the clams in the clam chowder fully cooked?) because I'm pregnant and paranoid, and instead of making me feel silly for asking, he gave me reassurance and congratulations. Stopped in after visiting the redwoods and was incredibly impressed! I've been to their farm in Marshall which is amazing but never to a formal restaurant. We ordered the spiny lobster bisque, smoked black fish dip, clam chowder (whole clams), lingcod tacos, and, of course, oysters! Everything was out of this world. This is now my go-to outdoor place to take with kids that's not a pizza or burger place in Marin. The food is great, fish is fresh, oysters delicious and they have a secret kids menu that my tween, kid, and toddler can all eat from. We love sitting outdoors and my kids can run around. I've been to this location dozens of times already through the years and always come back to it for a great meal. read more

May 4 2025 2pm If you have coinage burning a hole in your pocket and you want to enjoy fresh seafood at a relaxed Marin environment, scoot over to Hog Island oyster. Two of us did just that today. The indoor seating is noisy but quieter outdoor seating is available. The music was pleasantly low. It was a bit crowded at the small middle table given to us so we moved to a larger window seat and we were happy as clams :-) . Thomas our server was pleasant and helpful as were the hostess and other employees we came into contact with. We had Seafood stew overly filled with shellfish. chunks of fish, shrimp with toasted bun in a fresh light tomato broth. $34. Fish and chips that for some reason are not listed on the printed menu. A dark crispy homemade batter on slapping fresh local fish with tartar sauce and malt vinegar. $28 Six small grilled oysters with sauce three ways- two oysters per sauce flavor. That was my wife's favorite. They better be a favorite at $26. Plus we had a small $5 cola, water, and an extorted 'Wellness Fee' (5.00%) at $$4.65 plus Tax at over $9. The food was all fresh, homemade tasting and delicious. With bridge tax, the cost of food, State tax, local taxes, Wellness tax and tip totaled we shelled :-) out $65 each for lunch. A little steep for my blood but for a special treat worth it. In all fairness, $20 in taxes for lunch is not Hog Island's fault. There are other hogs to blame if you know what I mean (wink wink). We enjoyed the meal and walking around the local shops after lunch and we will be coming back one day. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. My wife and I noticed "Seared King Salmon" locally caught from Bodega Bay was on the menu that day, with the menu description of corn, zucchini, cous cous, argula & dill salsa being on the side. Dish arrived with an extremely small piece of salmon, totally flavorless and very overcooked. I've been eating locally caught King Salmon for over 50 years, and I doubt very much that this salmon was fresh & locally caught. It was flavorless & dry like a piece of fish that had been frozen for quite some time. Worst part was that none of the veggies were separated, just a big confused mixture all plopped on the plate with the salmon on top, and featuring about 80% corn with no flavor. My wife complained bitterly to the waiter about the quality and entire presentation, only to get a shrug from him saying "that's the way we cook it here." She told him to take it back and refused to order anything else. I couldn't eat this "veggie scramble" either. Also, the salmon was very pricey for such a small portion. Avoid this restaurant. read more

Fun place to hang out and enjoy drinks, small plates and oysters! If you sit on the patio you get a great view of the bay and the Larkspur ferry station. Besides the food the staff is always a pleasure to converse with, all very friendly. Also the music they play is always really good, last time I was there it was a mix of 90's rap. So much fun ! read more
