The men of our group decided this would be a great place to go, the only disappointment was the walk up to the restaurant which later was discovered as the back. The love music was great with songs that we could sing along to and bop our heads around. I had the hogs legs, which were very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, mixed with the plum sauce -- what a treat! I could eat the plum sauce by itself. Let's start with the fact that we showed up with a party of 10 and they did an amazing job of coordinating seating for us despite being a busy Saturday night. Next the staff was very friendly and the food came out much quicker than any of us expected. The nachos were fantastic and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. The only thing that stopped them from getting 5 stars was I had ordered wings and asked for them with Hog's Breath seasoning (I had it years ago when I was here and it was fantastic) and I think the waitress heard me wrong because they were plain. (I just got a side of Buffalo and some ranch dressing, mixed them up, and was good to go. Typical Duval dive bar with live bands. The night we went it wasn't very busy the band had stopped for a break. But when the bands are playing it can get pretty crowded. Service was ok the night we were there. Nothing distinguishable from the rest of the dive bars along Duval. read more

Staff is borderline disrespectful. Did not provide a welcoming environment for larger groups. With Key West being a tourist destination, you would think that it would be friendly. We attempted to get a larger table and the young male host put two very small tables together and argued when I said it wasn't large enough. He responded to with "well this is what I have for you". Basically a place where tourists come in order to have a chance at being something they're not, but I don't knock that as everyone should have a moment or two of fantasy living. You usually see a couple of Hogs (read Harley Davidsons) parked nearby as Hog's Breath is to Key West what the Boot Hill is to Daytona Beach except that Hog's Breath fortunately does it with a laid back easier going Key West tropical flare and a far more welcome environment for tourists. But like the Boot Hill, the souvenir tee shirts or other wearable mementoes meant to establish the fact that you've been there are seen everywhere. I can't help but like the place with its rustic open air tropical Key West charm, but I could hardly become fan of the place because of all the gimmickry and, being a foodie, I can't say much about the quality of the food. I've had the pulled pork sandwich they call the "Boss Hog," which I'm not sure is named for being the boss of pulled pork sandwiches or after the modified Hog motorcycle that generally adapted with an automotive V8 engine. Either way, be it in taste or flavor, it was OK, but didn't match up to being much of a boss of anything. Also, tough I may have just had a bad streak of luck with it, I've found their raw oysters to be "iffy" at best, but of course I can only blame that upon the oyster, not the chef. If you've never been to Key West, I'd say it's a must stop because if you don't all your friends will be asking you about it and you'll then be caught without anything to tell them. read more

Super neat beachy/dive bar. The place was pretty crowded when I came in around noon on Saturday. I sat at the bar and was served right away. There was a 1 man band playing behind some plexiglass in the courtyard. The bartender was very nice and kept the drinks coming. I got some mozzarella cheese sticks and they were delicious. The ambiance of the place is really cool and is a no frills dive bar. I have always wanted to come here and I am glad I did. I even bought a t-shirt. This is the worst service ever. Sat for over 45 min and walked by with not acknowledgement multiple times. When asked waitress for a drink, would not serve us and gave us an attitude. I had a Trump Mask on the table and gave me attitude over it. Wether you voted for Trump or not, it's a business and not an opinion based service. NEVER. I have been going to the Keys since 1970 and here since the 80's. Food WAS amazing! But arrived this year to find out they were bought out a year ago. Menu is much smaller, portions are a lot smaller. The store looks half empty. They have begun painting the interior wood a light grey and all the original glass painted doors that were covered in stickers from around the world have been removed. It was not busy at all so I guess people are seeing the changes already and not approving. We would usually come multiple times each trip to eat and mingle but I think we will be looking somewhere else. why do people buy out thriving businesses and change everything? I try to always point out the good and each restaurant, but in this case there isn't any. If I were to rank service, friendliness, food quality, price and cleanliness I would give it all 0 Stars it was terrible and the people who work here and the people who own it should be ashamed of themselves. I ordered the garlic shrimp dip and my husband had the conch fritters. The shrimp dip was the consistency of cat food and was served with Saltine crackers still in their wrapper. My $12 sippy cup sized Rum Runner was overly sweet and had very little alcohol that I could detect. my husband had the conch fritters and they were basically hush puppies with little pieces of chewy rubber band like conch in them. This is a divey Key West bar, really fitting vibe and decor. At the time we went there were not drink deals, the average drink was $8-$11 which is expected for the keys. I only ordered drinks, but those who ordered food at the table were unimpressed. The worst part was that this place smelt GROSS. I understand it's called Hogs breath but I wasn't expecting it to actually smell that way. After two or three drinks I was able to forget about the smell. This was the only place in key west (we were there 4 days) that told is we each had to order food in order to get a drink. & we had to order food with our first drink order (so no getting a drink while you look at the menu). So IDK if this is the only business on the island following a government mandate or if this is some odd rule this place has. I got nachos & they were really good. & everyone liked their food. I realize some swear by this place, but for me, it was just a bit above average. Loaded with tourist and everything that implies, it is hard to think of it anything other than a tourist trap. I was excited to try their shrimp dip, but it had a somewhat sour taste which was disappointing. I think if I had to do it again I'd try one of their sandwiches instead. On the whole, the vibe here just isn't my thing. It smacks of chain restaurant. There are a ton of places in Key West to have a drink, places that offer a more unique and original atmosphere. When a family comes in on vacation on Christmas Eve and is refused service because the bar tender cannot understand they have an autistic son that is bothering her?!? Are you kidding? Crawl out from under the sunburned tourist beach front rock you live under ma'am. The real world is full of trauma, hurt, severe needs, and you behaved entitled enough to talk poorly to this young man yourself AND then refuse service to the family?!? Do not support this place.
