small tea shop in Pasadena, seem like a nice little shop to do work in as they have free Wi-Fi. They have some seating but mostly just seats by the wall. Aesthetics in the shop is pretty nice, very modern and bright, perfect spot to do work. Parking - Shared with Afters Ice Cream right across, very small parking lot, 4 spots only. Street parking is available but the street itself is a one way street. My wife and I both shared the Onyx Hojicha MT and the Oreo Uji Matcha, both were very refreshing as the day was pretty warm. The drinks came out pretty fast as well so props to the staff for preparing them quickly. The matcha is not very overwhelming which is always a good sign to see when you purchase matcha drinks. Oreo mixed with matcha is always a solid choice for me so I recommend this drink when you visit. Overall, a very simple but high quality shop, it's a bit on the expensive side when it comes to tea shops but it's definitely worth checking them out as their drinks are on the higher quality side.
Minimalist bubble tea shop in Pasadena that is known for their hojicha and matcha based drinks. It has a pretty quiet and calm atmosphere, making it a cozy spot to hang out. My husband and I both really enjoyed the drinks. I would recommend the following: The Onyx Hojicha Milk Tea is a mix of Taiwan onyx black tea with hojicha charcoal roasted tea and house milk. It had a roasted, nutty, smoky, and creamy flavor profile. I am a big fan of how it tasted - more elevated than your typical milk tea. Brown sugar boba paired perfectly with this drink. The Oreo Uji Matcha is made with ceremonial-grade matcha imported from Japan, house milk, house cream, and crushed oreos. It tasted sweet, rich, and slightly earthy. The flavor of the oreo cookies balanced out the matcha in a good way. It was also delicious with brown sugar boba.
sadly I was pretty disappointed with my drink The staff is very friendly and recommended the blended matcha. I figured I go for it since I'm always looking for new places to get matcha. It looks like a great drink and has great color, and the first few sips I really liked the rich smoothie like texture. But as I kept drinking all the ice chunks came out and it turned into an melting icy drink. The matcha also had good flavor but it wasn't blended well, there was a ton of unmixed matcha powder throughout the drink so every sip was dried out with the matcha powder. Overall, it just wasn't a great drink or something I would come back for
Was in the area and decided to stop by for some drinks since I haven't been here in a couple years. They have really cool interior decor and seating is comfortable for casual chatting with friends. I ordered the Mango Cloud this time less sweet (7.42), and also the Matcha Blend. The price has went up a bit since the last time I was here but the cup is still the same size. The drinks took around 5 minutes or so to be ready. The mango cloud is as good as other reviews said. There is mango chunks in the drink and it is blended very well so it is a smoothie consistency. It also has some cream but I couldn't really taste it. I got less sweet so the sweetness level was perfect for me. I enjoyed the drink and my only complaint is the price but all drinks are around this price especially for fruit blended ones. I would recommend it if you're not looking for a matcha drink, but their matcha blend was also good as well with authentic matcha.
I was in the area so stopped by for a drink. There was no wait to order and staff was patient when my card was having issues during payment. There's no public restroom but there's some seating inside. I got the hoji matcha cloud ($7.45) at less sweet. The price has gone up since the last time I've been here, which is expected. I think it's still decent for the price at the cup size. The matcha is pretty strong but still has some sweetness.
Came by HOJI Tea Community while I was up around Pasadena and found a nice little shop. I really like the super minimalist and industrial look that they're going for inside! Street parking is a little limited, at least from where I chose to be, but it's not that much of a walk so I didn't mind it. I got an Oreo Uji Matcha and I found it to be pretty good. I didn't mind that it tasted pretty similar to other Oreo matcha drinks, and it was what I was going for. It kind of reminds me of the Oreo Brulee from Omomo, so if you like that drink, I think you'd also enjoy this one. Overall recommend!!
The interior of this tea shop was such a vibe, it was clean, nicely decorated and picturesque. It would be a nice place to sip some tea and study or do remote work. The staff who took our order was nice too. My friends and I stopped by after lunch to get drinks, I only tried the Ice Hoji Matcha, but my friends enjoyed their drinks. The drink I've had was good, it had a nice balance of bitterness from the matcha and sweetness from the milk/cream mixture. I would come back and just hang out for a bit next time that I'm in the area.
I've ended up at Hoji more times than I planned, mostly because every other boba shop is already closed. I appreciate the late hours, and the drinks are pretty good too. Nothing extraordinary and certainly on the pricey end ($7+ per drink), but I'm willing to pay the premium for the hour.
Hojitea is so fun to get drinks at! It's located in the same lot as the outdoor Afters, with street parking most likely available. The decor and lighting inside is modern chic, with tables for both small and big groups. I immediately noticed how cozy the interior was, and the times I've been here, people often came here to study or hangout. Staff is kind and service has always been fast. There's a variety of tea I've gotten from here: -Oreo Uji Matcha -Hoji Iced Matcha -Japan Hojicha Blend -Jaded Petal Milk Tea -Taiwan Toffee Milk Tea -Jaded Petal Milk Tea I've loved them all and really appreciate the variety of tea base they have here compared to here tea spots. The tea is high quality, and I will definitely keep coming back for more! I gotta try the rest of the menu! :9
This Japanese style tea house in Pasadena is pretty brilliant because it's adjacent to an ice cream corner shop and they share a parking lot, with outdoor patios. This is a very lovely indoor tea house, and it makes custom teas, milk teas and a variety of flavor and toppings, including boba, and my personal favorite, lychee, are available. The whole ambiance and decor are simple and clean. True Japanese feels. Also, the packaging of the teas is j'adorable! Check it out! I tried the refreshing grape juice with lychee drink. Fabulous!
I've tried the Hoji Matcha and the Jaded Petal Milk tea. So far the matcha is my favorite. I like that the menu is small as it's not overwhelming and I can easily try all the flavors over a period of time. Nice place to take your laptop and chill while you drink your tea and friendly service.
I really wanted to like this spot and was looking forward to coming here, but I'm wondering if maybe I came during an off day. HOJI Tea is known to be one of the best boba shops in Pasadena, and periodically goes viral on social media for its minimalist wabi-sabi aesthetic and beautifully colorful drinks. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon, and there was one person working at the counter. He helped answer my questions about the drinks patiently and was able to get them out without too long of a wait. *Onyx Hojicha Milk Tea: This was my favorite of the three, but their recommended sweetness was too bitter for me, so overall, it's not a drink I fully enjoyed. I couldn't taste the hojicha much, and as someone who loves a good hojicha latte, I would go elsewhere for that craving. *Mango Fruit Jade Tea: I was surprised by how opaque this drink was and thought it would be more tea-forward. The texture was thicker than expected and had mango pieces at the bottom. We were told it would be sweet and refreshing, but it leaned very sour. Maybe mangoes weren't in season at the time? I would just be cautious with ordering this, especially if you have GERD or acid reflux with how sour it was. *Fresh Grape & Lychee Jade Tea: I was hoping this one would have a nice natural sweetness of the fruits complementing the tea, but overall it tasted like I was drinking a candle. It was almost bland, but like in a waxy, perfumey way. Maybe it was the thick texture, but I've had grape and lychee-based drinks before at other boba shops and they didn't taste like this. I feel terrible admitting that I really couldn't finish it, as it seems to be a popular choice with some. You'll need to do street parking to reach this spot. There's plenty of non-ergonomic seating inside, where I could be fine sitting and catching up with friends, but I wouldn't survive trying to work here. The biggest plus for me is that it really was beautiful when we came in, with how the sunset lit up the place and how the interior was designed. I wonder if we just came in on an off day or something for the drinks, and would stop by if I'm already in the area to give this place another shot.
Was craving something sweet and hubby took me here for a drink. I was craving something fruity and got the fresh fruit cloud, mango. I actually really enjoyed it. Not too sweet and the mango chunks were pretty good, ripe enough and not bitter. My husband got the matcha latte, which was subpar. I do recall coming here a while ago and getting the Oreo matcha drink and was not impressed. Seems like the fruit teas are much better than the matcha drinks. The interior was super cuter and very aesthetically pleasing. It's pretty spacious inside. Kitchen is tucked away so there was no one there to greet us when we entered. It took some time but someone finally came out to take our order. She was very kind. The parking lot is very small but there is street parking.
Pretty solid ! My bf and I ordered the hoji matcha and hoji house coffee cloud; the hoji matcha was pretty good at 50% sweetness and I enjoyed the texture although the iciness liquified really quickly. Matcha flavor was good and wasn't overpowered by the cream, and boba texture was good as well. The hoji house coffee cloud was pretty good at first, but it got super icy halfway through,, but not even the cold icy texture; it was kinda dry and fluffy which I found to be odd; my bf said the flavor of this one reminded him of the Costco cold brew mocha freeze (without the chocolate) We came in at 12pm on a Saturday and we were the only ppl there for a few mins, and then it got busier near 12:30. The barista at the register was nice and the interior was super cute! This place definitely has the aesthetics. Would have been a nice place to work or study but I think you can find somewhere better. The menu is pretty easy to pick from as there are only blended or iced options. I did notice that the top of the menu says they have diary alternatives. When I got to the cashier to order I was informed one of my drinks I could not choose an alternative milk. I think it could be noted by which drinks you can choose a diary alternative as most of us these days are lactose intolerant. The cashier however was very inviting and had a smile the entire time of my visit. I looked at the menu and order 2 drinks at first (Avocado Strawberry Bliss and Fresh Mango Cloud). We waited about 5 minutes for our drinks. Check out other reviews as their beverages are not sweet. Avocado Strawberry Bliss- 2/10 (Do not recommend. I ordered it with 80% sweetness and it tasted like guacamole. It was unbearable to drink that I had to ask the cashier if they could give me more sweetener as there wasn't any present. I have had avocado beverages from many other businesses and usually get 25% or 50% sweet but the taste of this was unpleasant. Once my drink was remade it tasted slightly better but only turned this drink score from a 1 to a 2.) Fresh Mango Cloud- 3/10 (Mangoes are currently in season which would make them taste a bit sweeter. The mangoes in this drink tasted like the frozen semi sweet fruit you would get in a Jamba Juice smoothie. If you're looking for a Mango Cloud I would recommend Cha Redefine as theirs will not disappoint. This drink was supposed to be a popular choice but I would skip it and get a matcha.) I ended up ordering another drink since the two that I ordered were not so great and I wanted to get my boba fix. Onyx Black Milk Tea- 6/10 (This was the best drink. Just a basic black tea which you are able to use a milk alternative.) I did notice when I asked for more sweetener for the avocado drink, the barista who made the drink glared at the cashier and I and gave the cashier attitude as to what I wanted. With that type of attitude it explains why there is a wall instead of a glass window between the barista and the guests. I decide to have my drink at the location and noticed another person order the same avocado drink. She was disgusted like myself and had her son ask them to remake it. A different barista then remade the drink and even let the guest sample the remake to make sure the customer was satisfied. I'm not sure if it's the recipe that needs to be reworked or maybe this menu item needs to be taken off. Overall my experience was okay aesthetically but the flavor was a big miss. read more
It's rare to find a boba shop with good seating and aesthetic decor. The location is close to Old Town and has street parking, pretty convenient. I appreciated their staffing to avoid overworking the employees. We got the signature matcha drinks: Uji and Hoji. Hoji is a blended icy drink with Creme Brule. Great study space with a calming atmosphere! Decor is cute and super aesthetic, plus the staff are super friendly and helpful. Drinks are great, and very similar to Omomo if you don't want to drive all the way to Chino Hills or Irvine. I would say the Hoji matcha is my favorite on the menu. They also added to their menu as of recent, so be sure to try out their new items. Supporting this small business is a must! I'll be back for sure. read more

I've been here 5x in a week. Happy to have HOJI especially when the comparable OMOMO is so far away and the wait is terribly long. This boba shop is Instagramable and very beautiful! I have to say that I do prefer HOJI in terms of the Strawberry Cloud and HOJI Matcha. The only downside is their menu is a bit smaller, so I hope they expand their menu with more flavors and options. There is a small parking lot with AFTERS Ice Cream and tons of street parking! So parking is far from a hassle. read more

Hoji is a delicious and creamy new boba place that just arrived in the amazing 626 (in Pasadena!) if you are familiar with Omomo, then you'll quickly recognize similarities between these 2 franchises. Similar to omomo, they're known for their matcha blended drink with an aesthetic finish that makes it feel like you're drinking a fluffy cloud of matcha. However, I personally think Hoji's recipe is slightly better, as I prefer the sweetness of their matcha (brought it down to 80%sweet...I might even try 50% next time--thank you Hoji for curving my sweet tooth!) I also got their blended fresh mango cloud, which was so delicious and refreshing. It tasted like a better orange dream machine (from Jamba) with real mangoes! I really want to try their Thai tea and milk tea soon, so I'll definitely be back. Hands down, the cafe is beautiful with neutral furniture that makes you want to redo your living and dining room. Parking is plentiful (which is a huge plus for Pasadena) and you're on a one way street...which is nice when jay walking. Overall, 11/10. Definitely stop by for the drinks and vibes read more

By far this is one of my favorite frostie I've had ~ tops sunright and omomo. Usually I could never finish a frostie, but this one was creamy blended smoothly. I asked for 80% sugar and it was right amount of sweetness for me. Their drinks can be inconsistent as I heard others' experiences, but I was satisfied with my experience there. You cant go wrong here with the quality of their matcha! Order: Got their hoji match as a starter and loved it. If ya love omomo, def should give this place a try! Will be back to try the rest of their menu! Service: Very fast! Dont shy away from asking the workers questions they know their stuff! Ambiance: Went on a saturday afternoon n street parking was slightly easy. No doubt youre going to love their interior designing, but the space is a bit small n will get a bit crowded! read more

Came for the "grand opening" this past weekend at 9:20AM. Roughly counted the number of people in line while getting to my place. I was number 40. Ok but tell me why when 12PM came around I was no longer within the first 50 people. Only after 25 mins after they opened they began to hand out tickets to the first people 50 after people had already cut in line and they began taking orders. That should have been done many hours ago. No apologies to the customers who were the actual first 50. And you would think that the owner would have put more thought and care into this "grand opening" when they have had their soft opening for many many months. I've never had a grand opening but if I was the owner of this place I would have probably done some business 101 stuff such as: - Show up an hour or two earlier to make a speech or even talk to customers and thank them for showing up - Hand out waters prior to the opening (people are waiting in the sun to show up for YOUR business) - Hand out vouchers or something to the actual first 50 people who waited in line - Do anything other than whatever that was on Saturday. Whoever runs this business clearly doesn't care about their customers. Little things make the biggest difference. Ok wasted 4-5 hours in line just to not get the labubu. Then I was like you know what there's still the BOGO drinks. Got the mango tea and Matcha blend w/boba. The matcha drink was really watered down and bitter. And then the mango drink was overly sweet when both were supposed to be ideal sweet. Very disappointing. I will not be coming back. This wannabe Omomo place isn't that great. I would have been pissed if I had to pay full price for these drinks. Quality isn't good and then the dang cup holder you can't even hold it from the top. What is the point of the cup holder then if I have to hold them from the bottom. Make it make sense. read more

Pros: No line Omomo dupe Quick and friendly service Interesting aesthetic Cons: Not as good as omomo Very little seating/not good place to study Storefront gets very harsh sunlight Parking situation sucks Their drinks are a copycat of omomo's with a few they recently added to the menu being original to them. Their matcha is good but not on par with the quality of the matcha used at omomo. Overall it's a solid boba spot and a huge plus that there is no line. There's a tiny parking lot in front with only 3 spots, otherwise it's street parking only. There's one big communal table in the middle with benches for seating so not really the best spot to study unless you wanna be in close quarters with a stranger. Their drinks are on the sweeter side so I recommend getting at most 80%. Ice levels are actually on the lower end so getting less ice means most of it is melted and your drink is slightly cold. I got the Hoji coffee cloud since it was recently added to their menu. The coffee taste is barely there. This drink mostly tasted like milk so I was disappointed. I'd rather have a Starbucks frappe. read more

I came here because I've seen this place all over my tiktok (: The interior of the place was very cute and minimalistic and the ambiance was very calming. I would say that this place wouldn't be the best place to study because I didn't notice much outlets, but if you're coming here for a quick grab for drinks and hang out with some friends, it's a great place! The service I received was good considering it wasn't a big store. The workers were also nice and friendly knowing that it was my fist time there and suggested some drinks to try out (: The time it took for us to get our drinks was a bit long though, but I understand because there was others also waiting for there drink as well. I got the hoji matcha blended drink, 100% sugar and regular ice. My first impression of the drink was that it tasted a bit bland at first but after a couple of more sips I really grew to like the flavor of the drink! It wasn't too sweet, just the right amount! You could really taste the matcha and the creme brulee swirls around the cup! I would give it a rating of 8/10 read more

i always go to afters ice cream so i wanted to try the boba next door. its such a cute setting, everything is beige and there is plenty of seating. i got the strawberry lychee boba and it was really good. it wasn't too overpowering or sweet and i loved the coffee as well. the employees are really helpful and nice. read more
At first, I thought I mistakenly saw OMOMO. For people who are familiar with OMOMO, you know that their matcha is fantastic and worth waiting an hour in line for. As for HOJI tea, I am not disappointed in being misled it was OMOMO because of their similar aesthetic and packaging. In fact, I am craving their HOJI matcha! Their matcha was not overly sweet and had just a hint of bitterness, which I would expect in good matcha. The HOJI matcha had a bit of custard like cream on the sides of the cup which added nice creaminess to the drink. Despite their menu being a little small, I would love to revisit and try their other drinks... or order another HOJI matcha ;) read more

Love this place so much! It's very aesthetic and the drinks are so yummy. I tried the Matcha Cloud drink, and it was amazing! The matcha was rich and smooth, perfectly balanced with the creamy layers. The presentation was beautiful, and you can tell they use high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere in the shop was also cozy and welcoming, making it a great place to relax. Definitely coming back to try more drinks! read more

New boba in the 626 area! I saw Hoji from Tiktok as being the new drink spot in Pasadena, with similar drinks to Omomo. This tea shop has minimal neutral aesthetic vibes. Huge plus that the line wasn't long to order and get our drinks. Street parking only. The menu was smaller than I expected but has the basic flavors. I got the fresh mango cloud. It was creamy, but just a little too sweet for my liking. I would suggest adjusting the sweetness. Other than that, it makes a refreshing drink! read more
i highly enjoyed this boba spot! i typically like to take my time with my drinks, but i finished this pretty quickly. i got the uji sweet cream matcha and all their drinks come in one size. this place really reminds me of Omomo and glad to find something similar that's more local. it's a cute little spot with seating inside. i believe there is also wifi for you to hang out or study as well. there's a and all lot for parking, in addition to street parking. read more

I've tried their matcha and strawberry cloud drinks and it always hits the spot. Perfect for a warm day or whenever you're craving something sweet. I usually add their brown sugar boba but honestly even without add ons it's great. Their house cream is delicious and really levels up the drink so that's why I love getting the cloud read more
