Salmon (HR)
Amy C.

It's a cute restaurant with modern decor and lots of cat themed merchandise. I got the salmon hand roll kit and it came with a small bit of salmon sashimi, some seaweed, avocado, seaweed salad, rice, and cucumber salad. I liked being able to roll my own hand rolls, but I didn't find the quality of the salmon that fresh. The avocado also had some brown spots on it. The price point was reasonable, about $13 for the set. It's an order at the counter and then serve yourself everything place. Free parking in the plaza, which is always a plus.

We don't visit the South Bay often but when we do, it's a must to Yelp and find someplace new to eat. In search of a Japanese restaurant that offered a menu loaded with options and was both fast and affordable, we lucked out when we discovered Hoka Hoka Express. This place is everything Japanese wrapped all into one - food, beverages (leaded & unleaded), snacks, porcelain teacups, tote bags, cute collectibles, you name it! I can't say I've ever been to a restaurant that offered a menu item like the Normandie - salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, spicy ponzu, spicy mayo and served over your choice of base. I went with the Half & Half which was a mix of sushi rice and spring mix. So good! The only reason I didn't award a five star was due to the service. The woman who was working the counter was not overly friendly, so maybe she was new or was having a bad day. Regardless, I highly recommend a visit to Hoka Hoka Express for all things Japanese!

It was okay. Fish was fresh. Not at saucy as Hawaiian type poke I'm used to. Will have to adjust my expectations if I'm back. My couple friend also foodies felt like their order was like deconstructed sushi rolls. Our consensus was pretty much this. There was no wait as it was 8:30 pm on a weekday for a to go order.

Finally stopped by after being on my list for a while! You can choose to order at the counter or use the tablet. I placed my order on the tablet and got my food within 10 minutes. I got the spicy tuna bowl and gyoza. I loved that I could easily customize my bowl and it was honestly a good amount of food! I dined in and my order was brought to my table which was nice. Bathrooms were clean too. All in all, I'll be adding this to my favorites list!

really loved the super hoka bowl - comes with eel, spicy tuna, avocado and a shrimp tempura, all for $15! perfect lunch grab and go, just make sure you order ahead of time. i also tried the tuna onigiri but it was too much rice so wouldn't recommend. the inside is very cute with japanese stationary and little cat stickers. they have a ton of bowl options around 13-15$ and it's a very filling lunch!

I did a pick up order and I was pleasantly surprised. The tempura was freshly fried and they even paid attention to keep the sauces separate. The food is priced so well and I would definitely come here again.

5/5 all the dishes I had were flavored so well and were hot and fresh even by the time I got home to eat. The deep fry is perfect and the onigiri is perfectly balanced in the proportions to meat to rice.

**July 2025: Sunday Afternoon Review** My friend and I were in the Torrance area and we wanted to grab something quick and healthy. Well.. I wanted something quick and healthy and my friend obliged lol. I found this little hole in the wall through Yelp and it was very conveniently located to our last destination. The shop is located in a small shopping plaza and they had a steady flow of customers even though we came around 2pm. They have several different rice bowl options as well as tempura and homemade drinks. I picked up the honeydew oat milk tea as well as a salmon sashimi bowl combo (w/ a soft shell crab) and boy everything reminded me of when I visited Japan. Everything came out quickly and everything was delicious. The salmon sashimi was fresh and the rice that they used was sushi rice and had a vinegary/soy sauce flavor which contrasted the salon nicely. It also came with a salad and avocado. The honeydew oat milk was also fantastic. It definitely tasted like honeydew and it was very creamy. Would definitely get that again! Honestly, if I lived closer I probably would come here regularly. Cheers!

Looking for a place that not only sells yummy sushi bowls but adorable souvenirs from Japan? Hoka Hoka is a hidden gem that we found in Sepulveda Blvd. My sister didn't want to come with me inside, but I had to convince her with the sesame milk tea! And It worked. The area is so quiet from when I came at around 11:40. Only very few people, perfect for introverts. The menu is quite diverse and interesting. We had a hard time choosing from the different options. But when we checked from the Hot Bowls, I had to select the Dynamite. I loved the crab meat, drenched in that savory teriyaki sauce. If you are a sushi lover, they have all kinds that might interest you. Seating area is so comfortable and it feels like the perfect spot to just lay down and relax while you enjoy a good bowl. Milk teas were so interesting to try, but not much of a fan when it came to unsweetened drinks. All my preference though. Service was nice, I saw that one person was working at the register and honestly, they did a very good job. Cleanliness is five, very clean. Another personal opinion, I liked the bowl...but at the same time, felt that the teriyaki was overpowering. I think four is a decent rating because I had a good experiance and I do plan to come back and try something new. Thank you for the wonderful experiance, Hoka Hoka Express. Took a bit of time locating the area, but enjoyed regardless.

The firecracker bowl and the super hoka bowl, delicious!

Definitely adding this place to the regular rotation The food was fresh, delicious, and dangerously good. The vibe? Adorable to the point of being distracting. Fair warning: if you're easily tempted by cute things, come in with strong willpower (I almost left with snacks and décor ). The place was very clean and well-kept, which we love. Service was okay--not over the top, but solid. All in all, I'd absolutely come back for the food alone, and the cute atmosphere is just a bonus. Great food, clean space, and a vibe that makes you want to linger (and shop). Highly recommend! Happy Eating! Gen

Overall, this counter service Japanese restaurant was a good experience. The menu has a diverse range of bowls you can opt for rice base or a salad base and the protein can be raw fish sushi/sashimi or cooked fish. They have combos and a variety to choose from.

Cute!!

I FINALLY made it here for lunch and it did not disappoint. We ordered the hot meals. I got the spicy dragon with soft shelled crab add on. My mom ordered the baked lobster and gyoza add on. Both were delicious and quite large portions. My spicy dragon had eel which I love, avocado, and shrimp tempura. I ordered half rice and half salad. The store itself is super cute and there are all sorts of items for sale - ramen, snacks, drinks, ice cream, and even t shirts. I can't wait to come back and try something else

The older lady is very rude. She yells at customers without properly understanding what is being asked. Her English is very limited.

Our server was so sweet and welcoming. She walked us through the options and made recommendations based on our party. For a party of 3, we ordered one pound of shrimp, one pound of snow crab, and half pound of clams. The staff recommended mixing their sauces and it definitely hit the spot. The seafood was fresh and meaty and the garlicky, spicy sauce kicked the flavor up a notch. We also ordered a side of fries to share and the dip it came with was amazing as well. The price is very reasonable! It was definitely bang for your buck. They have happy hours that span a good chunk of the day so definitely take advantage of that. Will definitely be back to support a local small business.

The music was good and sports were available if that's your thing Cons: It took 30 minutes to receive our appetizers and at that time I was told they could not fulfill a portion of my order, I withdrew my order of rice and bang bang sauce. After 30 more minutes most of our order came out with the exception of the garlic bread. I was told that it takes a significant amount of time to make and asked if i wanted something else instead. I felt an hour for two burritos was excessive so declined adding anything else. Moments later my bread appeared. It took a full hour and some change to receive our order which I thought was unreasonable, especially since at this point we were the only patrons. Overall: Food was alright, reasonably priced, and portions were aligned with the price. However, I would recommend ordering ahead or anticipate a long wait time. When we went we were one of two patrons but it seemed they had a fair stream of take out orders. I frequent the area but do not live nearby and nothing caught my attention enough to return.

We ordered everything but the kitchen sink.....the shrimp ceviche, the shrimp cocktail, the fish and chips, the clam chowder, the garlic bread and to me the star of the show was the delicious popcorn shrimp deep fried to perfection....they had my Coke Zero on hand and that bumped it up to a 10 out of 10 for us. It's only five dollars on Fridays so it was a really good deal to have $10 for two items for lunch. The seating area is nothing fancy. It's quite dirty actually, but you can ask them for table covers and they serve all sorts of seafood. A little disappointed with the grilled fish it was overcooked and dry. The ceviche, however, was excellent. It is part of the five dollar meal. I can see why this place doesn't have better readings, particularly because the service is incredibly slow at picking up your Taco. They don't call out numbers as they bring them ready to be delivered instead they wait for you to bring your ticket to them and they find it, which is quite inefficient. Not sure if I will come back other than for the ceviche.
