Seemed like the perfect set up to abduct a solo female traveler. I immediately went back to the front and asked for a different room. I moved upstairs only to get a room that smelled like weed. Many of the door in the hallway were propped open, once again it was late and this seemed really sketchy. I slept ok and the next morning I went to breakfast which was less than minimal, but at least I got to see other people staying there and they looked like moral folks. This gave me a little assurance I'd be ok but still. The hotel is right by the freeway which was nice but super load - racing motorcycles all night. The room was the pits! Dirty floor, dirty walls, overflew he'd linens that were still discolored. The toilet seat was cracked and counter tops discolored. I would have left but the other hotels in the area were booked. After a couple nights rooms opened up at nearby hotels and I relocated as fast as I possibly could. Also, the computer system was broken so they took my card in a back room to run it - now I'm going to get a new card because lord knows what they did with my number. Don't stay here - ever!

The pool is under construction so they have a sign at the front desk stating that because of this, they do not offer discounts but they will honor free cancellation. I was told that there was nothing they could do and they declined the request from booking.com because this does not pertain to third party bookings or prepaid. So we are stuck. The place is a ****hole. There are stains in the carpet up and down the hall, it looks like they tried to patch some of the maars in the paint on the doors and hall with the wrong shade of brown. In the room, there are stains in the carpet and white stains on the couch pillows. The bathroom is covered in what seems to be an attempt to clean with a hair filled cloth. Long black hairs stuck to every surface, and a fowl smell coming from the drains. There are signs warning guests of the no pet policy but there are obvious claw scratch marks on the interior of the bedroom doors. We were warned last night that if we were to use the side entrances after 10:00pm even with our keys that would be put on a no rent list. This morning we woke up to have breakfast in the lobby, the oatmeal looked like gellatinous fat, the eggs were obviously out of a liquid carton, the saugage was undercooked, but to top it all off, there was an attendant that decided the appropriate channel to have on both of the TV's was FOX NEWS while proceeding to have a loud conversation virtually involving all parties in the room describing a female politician as a stupid uneducated (expletive describing a promiscuos female) and speaking poorly about ceertain political parties. People can have their own opinions, of course, but as a staff person of a very public company, they might want to steer away from sharing their opinion as loudly as they could at breakfast and not offering an alternative viewing platform for those that do not wish to absorb the rhetoric. I wouldn't stay here again if I was payed to. In fact, I feel like I am stuck in this reservation with no way to change anything about this. Luckily I will be leaving in two days never to return. I work for a very global bed bank company and will be sharing my experience with them hopefully resulting in the termination of their contract.

We went to see if there was an area where we could host a party for family that was coming to stay at the hotel for the wedding. The person that we talked to was bright and cheery. She showed us the meeting room and areas where we could meet. She provided us information and answered all of the questions that we had. The meeting room and common areas that we were shown were very nice, kept clean and were well-maintained. The prices were in line with meeting spaces at other hotels I've been at. I highly recommend Sonesta Select Chicago Elgin West Dundee!

When we arrived at the hotel, there was a line backed up into the lobby because the check-in process was taking so long. There were two staff members working and while it wasn't clear what the issue was - computer lag, lack of urgency, etc. - the process was weirdly slow. There were several weddings staying at this property on the same night and people were getting antsy in line because they needed to get to venues. It appeared there was a shuttle running to the venue; we chose to drive ourselves and avoid some of that hassle. The room itself was fine. It's not updated but it was comfortable enough for our one-night stay. Every outlet in our room was loose except for those right next to the sink, meaning nothing we plugged in worked. Again, not a huge deal for one night but I'm glad we didn't need anything charged beyond our phones. The hotel was also a little loud, probably in part due to the multiple wedding blocks. We could hear the people above us well into the night. I left a dress behind in the closet and went back to get it a few days later. Staff were helpful in that process, including the woman who answered the phone when I called to verify the dress was there.

Walk into a room and it's like walking into a time capsule. Tastefully decorated with late 1970s decor. Walls painted in neutral colors with a protective nicotine coating. Speaking of walls.... if walls could talk- these walls would tell stories of domestic squabbles, binge drinking, one night stands, cocaine, and quite possibly generations of impregnations. Old school key system. No plastic cards here. The key is attached to a large plastic piece to make it easier to find the keys when you finish your third case of Natural Ice. Try not to lose it, I'm sure the replacement cost is more than the cost of the room. Tube TV that belongs in a museum. If you time your visit correctly, you'll likely see a pack of obese raccoons climbing in and out of the dumpster. Wonder if the raccoons are eligible for the Colonial day rate? The Colonial does not offer a "wake up call". The wake up call is actually the siren of passing fire trucks from the nearby fire station. That station is busy, so prepare for the wailing every 30 minutes. Pros: cool lighted sign from the 50s Affordability Delightfully entertaining Cons: age, condition, cleanliness, and drama.
