I was coming here with my dog Leo for ozone therapy and acupuncture for his cancer for about a year and it seemed to really help him! Unfortunately when Leo turned for the worst I knew it was time to set up the appointment to say good bye to him, when I called the woman on the phone was so absurdly rude!! I asked if they offered it with along we cremation and the woman just says "yes". I asked how much and she seemed very annoyed her reply "idk it depends on the size of the dog" I told her he was 5lbs and she let out a sigh because she had to look it up. She gave me a price range. Then I asked if the cremation was done individually or in a group she told me it was in a group so I told her I'd give her a call back because I wanted to talk to my fiancé about if that's what we wanted to do with him. I then told the woman that we were already patients there and her whole attitude changed, her tone of voice got soft and was then apologetic. It rubbed me the wrong way so we took our Leo else where to say goodbye. The vet techs and the vet who did our acupuncture were always so kind but their receptionists always seemed annoyed to be there and after this experience over the phone I will no longer be recommending this vet. Leo really liked the vet techs, so unfortunate. Saying bye to a pet is not easy, especially to make the call to set up the appointment so you'd think they'd have SOME compassion for these situations. I took my 9.3 year old bullmastiff to see Dr.MacKinnon to explore holistic ways to treat her Hemangiosarcoma. My pup has been my fur baby since she was a puppy so dealing with this devastating news was hard. I explored options with chemo so I wanted to see what else I could do to ensure my baby's quality of life was not impacted. I was so happy that Dr. MacKinnon didn't just quote textbooks, but she has experience. Over 40 years to be exact! I am definitely grateful for individuals that spend time going to school, being one of those people, however science can only explain so much. She wasn't focused on scaring me with life expectancies if I didn't do X, Y, and Z. She was kind and provided a realistic options based on what she has seen with this type of cancer. Unconditionally, this is a very caring office. Over the past couple of months I have taken our dog there and have been very pleased with the individual attention given to us by Dr. Tyneway. Rude and unprofessional. Our cat had blood tests over 2 WEEKS ago. The doctor said she would call us the next day with the results. Now over 2 weeks later and after MANY calls from us to get the results, where they promise a call back each time...no callback and no results. Today we called and got a rude response from our insisting that we get our results for the tests we paid for. " I only answer the phone" and other rude responses was what we got. Next step is to dispute the charges on our credit card and take our cat elsewhere. He may be sick with whatever and they just won't call us back. WTF. read more

Unfortunately, I got to Dr. Watrobski too late. I brought my cat of over 14 yrs to an emergency clinic in West Hollywood for what I thought was a UTI. It was not. It was terminal cancer and pancreatitis. At that point there was very little I or anyone else could do. I wanted to exhaust every possibility so I came to HVC. Dr. Watrobski, was patient, kind, and compassionate. She was not (unlike the WeHo clinic) a vulture out to skin me alive. She gave my baby acupuncture and a B12 shot and it seemed to give him a little life. She also laid out a very comprehensive plan had Tiger been able to survive. Unfortunately, he went downhill fast and we're at the end of the road. I am grateful that we at least had a chance to visit this clinic because going forward, even though it's a drive for me they will be the first ones I go to in the event of another crisis. read more

Today, 12/20/20, when I called Holistic Veterinary Center to cancel all future therapy appointments, their voicemail recording states that they are closed because "2 EMPLOYEES HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID." I am scared and furious that I have been exposed and will clearly have to get tested! As I mentioned in my original review, one of the staff sitting up front was wearing her face mask below her nose! That is essentially not wearing a mask at all! Also, when I went to use the hand sanitizer stationed in their lobby, it was completely out. When I mentioned it to the male sitting at the front desk, again he did NOT acknowledged me, bother to reply or even look up. No one at the front desk did when I mentioned that the hand sanitizer was completely empty. The attitude and lack of concern of the staff comes from the top. The doctors are even more rude! Their actions are reprehensible! Dr. Watrobski is rudest vet I have ever met! I had several phone conversations with this place prior to my appointment and no one ever told me about their Covid check-in procedure. And this horrible doctor yelled at me because I entered the lobby! What was I supposed to do?? No one told me differently. When I tried calling from my car when I arrived, a long recording stated to call another number, which I did and nobody answered! So the only option I had left was to check in at the front desk!!! The way this place is run is disgusting! They have all these supposed Covid protocols in place yet I saw an employee wearing a mask below her nose and now they are closed because 2 employees have test POSITIVE FOR COVID! My fur baby Chloe has a slipped disc and pain. I wanted to help her, not just cover up the problem with pain meds. She loves coming here. Everyone genuinely cares about her. They are wonderful with all of their fur baby patients. The laser therapy, water treadmill and acupuncture has been a game changer in how she feels and getting her back to good. Prices are comparable to others. Going once a week can get expensive. Wish they offered a package deal or coupon. read more

Budget, my 10 lb. beagle/dachshund, ruptured a disc in his lower back in November, 2016. After five months of crate rest he was no longer paralyzed but his back legs just didn't work right - his legs crossed, he walked on his knuckles and he had no apparent muscle in his legs. A friend recommended this treatment practice and we had a consultation in April, 2017. They started him out on underwater treadmill twice a week for several months and gave me some at home exercises for him. He improved enough to go once a week for several more months and then graduated to every other week. He gained almost 2" of muscle mass in 6 months and continues to get better, although he will never walk quite like other dogs. But he can walk and even run! His final treadmill session was on 8/7/18 and he's doing great! I can't say enough good things about the care and treatment my dog and I received from the staff at Holistic Veterinary Center. Budget had been in a hoarding situation, was not friendly and had to be muzzled for his first visit. That problem was resolved dramatically and was an unexpected bonus as a result of his visits and interactions with the staff. His vet, Dr. MacKinnon, was terrific to both of us and was always ready to answer questions in terms I can understand. I could tell that she really cared about my dog. The physical therapists and veterinary technicians were kind, knowledgeable and caring, and they always went out of their way to greet Budget and ask about how was doing. My cat is on Hospice and needs an Herb that they just told me they have in stock but they would not sell it to me because I was not a patient - I am with another Vet. I have been going off and on since 2008. They have extended the lives of 2 of my dogs, made them comfortable when their bodies were deteriorating. Dr. Tyneway made the last 6 months of the first dog I brought much better. He was even able to walk 2/3 of a mile and make it up the stairs with minimal help, the day before he died. I don't think he would have lived to 13-1/2 without her! Dr. MacKinnon is a miracle worker! I love her and hope she never leaves or retires! She's worked on all of my animals now. My lab who just passed made it to 13-1/2 thanks to her diligent work to keep him comfortable, and she tested new lumps as they came up and found cancer twice that would likely have killed him. She has also resolved a mysterious condition a rescue cat I adopted had, and that cat is able to live happily and comfortably thanks to Dr. MacKinnon's ministrations. My only complaint is the phones. They are not handling the increase in call volume due to covid protocols as well as some other vets. They moved the phones over to Calabasas Animal Clinic, and with a loss of staff, the problem is compounded. Be patient and call back if necessary. read more

We went to show a bump on my dog's leg after tick bite. On the phone, the attendant seemed caring and I liked how concerned she sounded about my dog. We took our dog for a visit and the doctor prescribed drug, and test but the lump is still there after my dog used antibiotics. Today, we had an appointment to follow up regarding the same issue that we spent money on they wanted to charge us again for a visit. I wasted time and money and there is no result and they want to charge me again for a issue that they failed to solve. I recommend you to not to take your pet to this place because I feel that they're main motivation is greed. Take your dog to someone who cares. read more

The only reason I'm giving this vet 3 stars instead of 5 is because of the tech Chelsea who was horrible both times I spoke to her on the phone and was rude, defensive, and utterly heartless when I told her our dog was dying. Dr. Watrobski was wonderful and it's such a shame that Chelsea made an already difficult time losing our beloved dog so much more awful. She came across "spring-loaded in a pissed-off position" as the saying goes. If you ever go to this vet I recommend Dr. Watrobski highly but I also recommend you tell them you won't work with Chelsea. If you can't be kind to someone, at least don't make their life harder. read more

I used to think that Dr. Tyneway really cared about my dogs. After all, I spent $20-30,000 over the past 3 years there. And as far as treatment goes they are great. This review is strictly only her lack of caring. My dog Ernie was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma a few days ago. I know the prognosis with chemo is still pretty dismal so I called the vet center just to ask if the doctor has any success with a holistic approach. Ernie had just had surgery to remove his spleen and I was (and am) very worried. The doctor wouldn't even come to the phone so I could ask ONE simple question. I was told to make an appointment and bring in my dog. This certainly wasn't necessary to ask if she had treated dogs with this condition. Then I was told I could make an appointment for a phone consultation, It seems that unless you open your wallet there is no way the doctor will even answer a question. After all these years I now know what kind of a person she is. They did a wonderful job helping Sarah for 3 years. Without them she couldn't have learned how to walk after major surgery. But I hope people will search for another option. She only cares about her bottom line. read more

With a recommendation from our regular veterinarian we came to see Dr. Tyneway for physical therapy. My dog Ventura came and started on the water treadmill once a week with acupuncture. He is now fully functioning and is acting like his crazy old self again. You would hardly believe how old he is. I really can't say enough good things about Holistic Vet Center. Dr. Tyneway and her entire staff are wonderful. I have been going to them for the last 3 & 1/2 years with both of my dogs but specifically my dog Kyra who was in Kidney failure and through working with Dr. Tyneway stayed healthy years past what anyone ever thought was possible. Not only did Dr. Tyneway help my dog live a really long good life, but her and her staff were always so kind and helpful. The office is the only vets office I have ever been to that doesn't smell like urine and it has such good calm energy, this seems to really help pets feel at ease there. I drive from the west la to calabasas for Dr. Tyneway because in the last 12 years I have never found a vet or staff that has such compassion and care for my dogs as if they were their own. If you are looking for a great vet that is competent, caring, smart, with a helpful supportive staff this is the place for you! read more

After seeing 4 vets and getting nowhere, I happened on Dr. McKinnon. Our sweet Bella (French Bulldog) was suffering from vaccinosis as well as a few other things. All of the previous vets just wanted to put her on antibiotics and steroids. Dr. McKinnon took a natural approach using all supplements. It has taken a year and our sweet girl is on the mend. I love that the Dr. sits on the floor with her and Bella is so relaxed. This is the first vet that my pups don't shake when they get to the office! read more

Never had I experienced such an extremely wrong diagnosis for my dog and I've been a dog owner my whole life. I went into Holistic Vet to get acupuncture for my Pomeranian. Dr. McKennan does a great job giving my dog this treatment and has done so numerous times. I explained that my dog recently had a major dental procedure where he got 13 teeth extracted. I told her he still had stitches in his mouth. While the acupuncture needles were in him he began to have one of his fits where I thought he was just frustrated with the stitches that were possibly irritating him. I told her he had been doing this since the procedure. After this happened a few more times Dr. McKennan said, "Those are seizures. That's not him trying to get at his stitches. You see? That's a repetitive, uncontrollable action. He can't stop it. I can't stop it." Of course when she said this my heart stopped and I was all ears. I asked what she thought could have caused this. I showed her the list of drugs used by the specialist during his dental procedure. She thought it was the Tramadol they gave him. She also said, "Or stress. Then we brought on more stress by sticking needles in him." I'm not sure if she was making a judgment on me for bringing him in or she was just thinking out loud about what was being done to the dog. Either way the comment was not appreciated. My dog kept having "episodes" during this time. She then proceeded to say, "Yeah we got to get this stopped. He's already had about 10 in this room. We're talking about quality of life." When a vet says those words to me it makes me think that they mean that if it's not controlled the pet should be put down. That's serious! She started going through antiseizing treatment plans. An herbal blend with Gabapentine 25mg twice a day. I suggested CBD oil. She said to add that too. If that doesn't do the trick the next step up would be Phenobarbital, an anti-seizure medication. "Yeah we got to get those stopped," she said. I thanked her and went to pay at the front desk. On top of the $95 acupuncture bill she also charged me a $75 exam fee! Not too surprised. They have always tried to get as much $ as possible out of me. That plus $58 for the Gabapentine, which is used for arthritic pain, and the herbal pills my bill came out to $236. Before when my dog would have an "episode" I would pick him up and comfort him. Sometimes he would stop. But because I trusted the doctor and she told me they were seizures I didn't dare stop him when he did this. I began counting the "seizures." 40 Tuesday the day before. Then I was up to around 40 again the next day when I went into Holistic Vet. A few hours went by and nothing improved. I reached out to Holistic Vet and Dr. Mckennan called me back before they closed. I asked her what I should do if the Gabapentine didn't help by night time. "Then you would need to take him into an emergency clinic." I thanked her and we hung up. My dog was up to around 60 "seizures" at that time and I feared for brain damage. I tried to figure out ways to calm him. Come 3am I wondered if I could wait until 9am to bring him to see his other vet when they opened or if I needed to go to an emergency clinic which I wasn't sure if one, they could help and two, if I could afford it. The fear of brain damage made me drive to VCA Emergency Clinic where I paid $135 for 10 minutes of their time just to tell me they needed to run thousands of dollars worth of tests before they could do anything. Of course. I left and continued doing what I was doing. Around 6am on Thursday I called Holistic Vet knowing they weren't open but I wanted to leave a message. I said my dog's condition had worsened and asked to see if they had any other suggestions to stop these "seizures." By 8:30am I was outside waiting at my dog's other vet's office. They took him and monitored him for a whole day. I went to pick him up around 5pm where his doctor decided he did not need to transfer my dog to an emergency clinic. He told me "These are not seizures. The dog looks like he's very angry at something in his mouth." Once he said that I dared to stop by dog when he was doing this and he would stop. We took the remaining stitches out. Dr. McKennan's wrong diagnosis cost me $1,000 in unnecessary medical bills and almost had me put my dog on anti-seizing medication which have serious side effects to treat seizures he never had. I dont even want to imagine if I completely trusted and her tried to treat seizures which he would not respond to since he doesn't have the condition. Then quality of life would come up and then what? Put my dog down? She did not even call me back until Saturday; two days after the I left a message! I never responded. She called again the following Monday to check up to see how my dog was responding to the Gabapentine. I ignored it. I will never return to this vet again. read more

I just recently brought my two fur babies, Cheeky and Shady (teacup yorkies) with there knee issues. This place was like a doogie spa, just like my spa, calm and relaxing my dogs didnt even shake like normally when I bring them to the vets. Dr. Tyneway was so pleasent and efficent, she looked over every chart and x-ray that I brought there. She treated my dogs with love and sat on the ground and made them feel so comfortable. We decided on No surgery and that with proper excercises they will live a happy life even when their little knees pop out of place. We even talked about their diet which I also needed help with. Feeding my dogs a raw diet has helped with their allergies. I just received a check up call from them which shows that they care about my dogs and I. Dr. Tyneway and staff are THE BEST! I am so happy with the loving service I have received at Holistic Veterinary Center. I brought my (overweight) cat, Fred, to see Dr. Tyneway because he had blood in his urine and it appeared as though he was in pain when he urinated. She was able to see him the same day I called and is obviously a cat lover! She was very sweet with Fred and thorough in her evaluation of his "issue". She ended up giving me a homeopathic mixture, as well as an antibiotic, to treat his condition. She also made the recommendation to take him off of kibble because it has almost zero water content, and advised to only feed him wet food. It worked! Not only is Fred able to urinate without experiencing pain (not to mention, no more blood!), but he has lost weight! I am sure he is happier because of it. :) Also, Dr. Tyneway personally called to give us the results of his urinalysis and asked how he was doing after his visit. Great bedside manner. I also brought my dog, Delilah, in for a urinary issue. Dr. Tyneway fixed her up in one visit. Also, Holistic Veterinary Center (and K9 Gym) are the ONLY vet's offices that Delilah actually walks into without putting up a fight. She is very calm and relaxed and greets everyone with a tail wag. In the past, it was difficult to get her to walk into a vets office without carrying her and watching her quiver in fear. Dr. Tyneway and her staff create a very calming atmosphere for nervous dogs. I came here seeking holistic, Chinese, alternative medicine for my yorkie who was diagnosed with a deadly cancer. I'm writing this review after giving it a lot of thought but after being treated rudely by Kelly I figured I would write what happened & my experience. I brought my dog to meet with Dr. Tanyway highly recommended. My dog was on my lap she's a yorkie & small. She was over doctors & vets having been at the hospital over 10 days, having surgery, recovering & now I'm taking her to different offices to get opinions. I will say this Dr. Tanyway was scared of my 5 lb yorkie. I think she thought she was going to bite her & when I realized that because she was scared to examine her while she was sitting on my lap that's when I brought it up. The thing is she should have just asked me. I'm sure she's been bite by many dogs even when owners say they don't bite. Lady never bite anyone & she wasn't territorial over me. She wasn't a biter & the whole experience was a bit off putting. I don't feel I got anything out of that appointment. She suggested I cook home made food which I already was doing. I understand she wanted me to balance her food & give her proper nutrition bc apparently lean meat & veggies weren't enough. She suggested 3 supplements to add to her diet. Besides that I didn't leave there with anything other than suggestions to buy supplements leave her be, no actual plan of treatment or real direction. Everything she suggested I was already doing. I personally have been to alternative Chinese medicine treatments for myself & I know it works for humans. Here I didn't feel they are actually practicing Chinese alternative treatments for dogs. I left didn't buy the vitamins she suggested. I looked online & read about it. I could have ordered the things online for a bit cheaper but chose not to to get it now from them. Unfortunately after I bought it. Not too long after she died. The supplements were unopened, not used & in my apartment in a cool area the entire time. After she passed I called to see if I could get a refund. It's was about a $100 worth of supplements for 3 items. I was told that it's their policy to not take back any supplements. Also that it's the law to not take back any medication. It's weird because I was being lied to now that it's the law. I asked if I could donate it & give it to someone for free that they recommend & prescribe these products to like they did to me. They go on to tell me they have a donation bin I can throw it in. It would have been nicer if they could give it to someone they were about to recommend & charge for these items free from me or someone that keeps buying it repeatedly from their office. I was trying to do a nice thing & give it away instead it turn to a thing about it's the law to not take back supplements, no refunds, they don't know if I've kept the supplements in the heat or what conditions is what they accused me of, so how do I know putting it in the bin you wouldn't resell it? They also told me to donate it to dog shelter, those people are just wanting the basics not holistic & alternative treatment. They recommended online which no one wanted it & I offered it free to holistic & cancer communities. I got tired of seeing it lying around my home when I bought it for her with the intention of using it & was never able to. Final straw was when Kelly spoke to me on the phone. I told her everything & she knew everything. After them accusing me that they don't know if the supplements not medicine would be in the sun or how I stored it, I turn it to them well I don't know if I leave it in the bin if it will get resold. She goes on to "attack me" and say "I'm really weird" "I'm a really weird person". Really trying to give away 3 items supplements that are $100, unopened, not used, not in the sun away out of the goodness of my heart makes me weird. She also goes on to say all the clients at this office have money & don't need a free something. I guess everyone that comes here has money & wouldn't appreciate anything free. Kelly went on to offer after I got angry to call dog owners who may want it as she said the word "free" very uncomfortably & awkwardly. Like it was a disease to get something for free. She did call me to tell me she found 3 people to want free. I thought long & hard about it, before I even wrote this review. But Kelly was so rude to the point that I think people should know they lie about the law and refunds, should just say it's your policy, are not helpful when u are trying to do a good deed & give $100 worth of supplements I bought from their office away for free & are giving u a hard time about it. And then go on to insult me, your weird & everyone that comes to this office has money & is rich & doesn't want free. We had to take our beautiful Flower, a 14 year old black and tan Doxie, in for an emergency visit yesterday for a raging urine infection and were able to get a same-day appointment. We had to wait a little bit but were so grateful to be seen the wait was no problem at all. Flower was given the best care and is doing much better today. Her urinary tract infection came on suddenly and was painful for her but now she is resting comfortably. The doctors are great here! They have given compassionate and loving care to my daughter who was almost 18 years old. They helped prolong her life and made her more comfortable. They taught me how to do procedures at my home which helped as well.
