I waited quite awhile after having my engine replaced and other work done on my car by Hollis Brothers because I had been through 18 months of being ripped off over and over again by another mechanic shop that I had given a good review right away and regretted. But, now, after a year of driving my car with only one little issue that had nothing to do with their work, I can confidently say that this is an excellent team. I took my old 2004 Honda to them in pretty bad shape and within a week they had replaced her engine and many parts, and gave her back running beautifully. Today, almost a year to the day later, she is perfect. I appreciate their honesty, their willingness to listen to my concerns and pay attention, and their diligence in getting to the bottom of the problem, explaining it, and fixing it without the need for additional visits and expense, and with zero attitude. First of all I have never experienced a kinder experience from a mechanic. My grandmother passed away and they sent me a a condolence text. They rushed to get me the parts needed. My car now runs like it's new. When I brought it to them it sounded like a train was running through it. I highly recommend them. Prices are very reasonable. I had previously been taking our Mercedes vehicles to the local dealer. They did a fine job on any repair, but Hollis offers same or better for a better price and they are local. I appreciate the quality of their service and their honest appraisal of what needs to be done. They have no incentive to try to convince you to do serviced that is not needed and will give you straight and honest advice on what needs done and then deliver top notch service. One word: HONEST When you find a good car mechanic and then you find a good honest car mechanic you've found it all. Dave and Steve are great! I've been going there for years and they've serviced by; Buick, BMW, Ford Mustang and my mother in laws Mercedes and Lexus. They tell it like it is and do great work! They know there stuff and if they don't they will do the research. Since new ownership began operating this shop recently, my brother and I have had two very poor experiences. First, we dropped off a Bentley and advise it was running rough - we thought perhaps it needed new plugs and brakes and the check engine light was on. They did not contact us with a quote and did not run a diagnostic to confirm the plugs were the issue. They just replaced the plugs and brakes and charged $10,000. (Which did not address the problem and the check engine light was still on.) Took it back recently and specifically ask to run diagnostic (surprising this needed to be specified when the check engine light is on) ... then received a quote for $24,000 to replace the vacuum line system. We will certainly be getting a 2nd opinion. We won't be using or recommending this shop in the future. read more

Update : I've continued to use Hollis Brothers the last couple repairs and my trust with them continues to grow. Dave has been so honest with me and so patient when answering my questions! I bought new tires from the Firestone because I have lifetime alignment with them. You can read my review for them on my page. Anyways, Firestone stated they couldn't do the alignment because I needed to get the tire rods replaced for over four hundred dollars. Dave said he could do it for $195 but after inspecting the tire rods Dave said they didn't need replacing because there was nothing wrong with them! He offered to do the alignment for $130 plus depending how much they needed alignment but I'm going to hold Firestone accountable.. Seriously, Hollis Brothers have been amazing and I trust them with all repairs!!! read more

What a great outfit! I had a car that hadn't been started in about 10 years. I talked to Steve Hollis who said he'd take a look if I could have the car delivered to his shop. He worked on this 50+ year old beauty with intermittent delays for parts for two months. Lots of little glitches but with his superb knowledge of all things auto, he revitalized this classic car. Not only does Dave know his stuff, he loves what he does, and that makes all the difference. Just yesterday, I wanted to get his insight on my vehicle's maintenance plan. Even though I had no intention of bringing the car in at the time, he took the time to "talk shop" and address my concerns over the phone, despite his busy schedule. I think it was about 15 years that I'd taken my vehicles in to Hollis Brothers because 1) they're extremely thorough, 2) they do a quality job, and 3) they're not going to pressure you or pull the wool over your eyes with anything (I'd still take my car in to HB, but it's a long hike from Aurora up to Barrington). The Hollis brothers (Dave and Steve) were great with helping me put a hitch in my car. I would highly recommend them if you want to get an execuhitch (aka invisihitch) installed on a BMW.
