I am not a fan of seafood but this restaurant made me to become a seafood lover My first pick at this restaurant was a snow crab with sweet holly sauce. It tasted amazing! The crab had a lot of meat inside and when you dip it into the sauce it was perfect! Furthermore, the bread that came with the food went along well with the sauce too! So wanted seafood, Daily Catch had a long line, so decided to try Holly Crab. Interesting concept, bringing all your food resembling slop in a plastic bag. Was rather shocked when it came. It was edible, but nothing spectacular. Glad I gave it a try, but will I go back? Not likely. read more

Finally a crawfish restaurant open in Boston. I am so excited and happy that this place is open because everytime I wanted to eat crawfish I either have to fly down south or over to California for it. I went in for dinner in the middle of the week day and the place wasn't as crowded as in the weekend. The waitresses there are very friendly and helpful. They gave me a few suggestions on the menu and I ordered a pound of snow crab, a pound of crawfish and an order of sweet potatoes fries. I choose their Holly Crab sauce to go with the seafood. The foods are very good and fresh. Their fries came out smoking hot and crispy. Just right for my watery mouth! The seafood are fantastic! The restaurant is very clean and organized. It's a great place to hang out, chit chat and mouch down some goodies with your buddy. I will definitely come back here with a few of my friends in the near future. read more

Really enjoyed my first visit to Holly Crab. We had the fried calamari basket to start. Liked the seasoned batter but wish it had come with marinara and not just tartar sauce. The fries were hot and crispy but average, frozen fries. We got the head on shrimp and mussels boil with the Holly Crab sauce in mild (2/5 on the spice chart). Would definitely do medium next time, but absolutely loved the garlic flavor of the sauce. It's loaded with garlic... pretty sure I still smell like it 25 hours later. I got the buffalo chicken drumlets and wings as an appetizer, which were one of the better ones out there, as the spice and vinegary flavors were balanced. For the seafood boil itself (it is Cajun style), I got the crawfish and shrimp in spicy Holly sauce and, crab legs and mussels in lemon pepper sauce. I found the crawfish to be rather small; I have had larger crawfish in Vegas. Also, the muddy taste did not quite go away for the crawfish despite the choice of sauce, which was not very pleasant. However, the rest of the seafood was cooked perfectly and properly seasoned. The crab legs were easy to eat as they had thin shells. They were also very meaty but did not taste very sweet (probably because the crabs had been frozen?). The mussels were fresh and not gritty. My favorite was the shrimp, which came with the heads on, and I could suck the tasty juices out of the head together with the spicy Holly sauce. The shrimp was also relatively large and fresh and came off the shell easily. The bill came up to about 70 dollars for 4lbs of seafood plus sweet corn cooked and smothered in the sauces, which was decently priced. Definitely check in to get the free beverage! As a final note, service was attentive but not intrusive - the wait staff came to check on us regularly and filled our glasses with water without us asking. read more

We went a little HAM (I hadn't eaten all day) and ordered: 1 pound king crab legs, 1 pound mussels, 3 pounds shrimp, and 1 pound crawfish in the medium Holly sauce. The sauce was pretty dang good - very garlicky, although I would probably order it a bit spicier for my own taste next time. The crawfish were not great, the mussels and crab legs were good, and the shrimp were spectacular - sweet, juicy, and the price per pound is very reasonable. This place is great! It's a cute true crab boil (seafood comes in the bag it's steamed in). I tried the crab and crawfish combo. The medium spicy has great flavor and a good spice to it. They're selling beer now, so there's 5 choices of drinks. I would definitely recommend the crab and lobster. read more

Holly Crab is a scam...scam...scam ! Menu said fresh live crawfish but it is NOT fresh ! And that's not cool !! They're 100% frozen crawfish when got the order and tasted. And the taste is very very bad. It wasn't busy when we arrived (my fiance and I) around 6pm on a Thursday and we were seated promptly. Out of all the places we've been to for crab legs; Barking Crab (both locations when RI was open) along with Shaking Crab and a few places that don't offer flavors. This was on of our favorite places and trust me we love crab legs - particularly snow crab! There was a little hiccup to our evening when our waiter dropped both of our beers prior to arriving at our table and it took almost 10 mins to be served again but besides that the snow crab, potatoes and corn with medium spice Holly crab sauce was soooo good and very flavorful. Food: (4/5 stars) Got the snow crab legs, shrimp & crawfish combo and blue crabs all with Holly sauce. Sauce taste great with the crawfish and blue crabs but the shrimp was a little over boiled. Service: (3/5 stars) Could be a little more attentive and more informative about how their food works. I ordered clam and snow crab combo and half of the clams are empty. When I complained about it, the waitress agreed to add more clams. Although it means more waiting time for me, I planned to take the offer. However, when I ask if those added clams could be made into a different flavor from my previous order, since it would have made the same trouble for them whatever flavor the clams were cooked the second time. She refused and suggested as if I was to take an advantage of them. Since I was merely asking, her attitude made me uncomfortable, especially it was their problem. I didn't get the clams and only got the money for the clams back. Very disappointing experience! First off, this place needs a legit sign over its door. Secondly, customer service is terrible. I came here on a Monday night and there was no line, not really busy but no one seemed to care to sit us. Waited a couple minutes before a waitress approached us. She then proceeded to pick up the paper table cover from the floor and placed it back on the table where she sat us down. No one even came over to take our drink order or even give us a cup of water. After 10-15 minutes a waitress finally came over and just asked if we were ready to order, only to find out that they were out of crawfish and only had lobsters that are more than 2.5lbs ($25/lb). I guess I didn't have much of a choice anyway. The restaurant doesnt open until 5pm everyday. What's the excuse on low inventory? All 3 of us chose a boiled dinner combo with different spices. Wasn't what we expected, delivered in a plastic bag with gloves and a bib. Inside the bag were my shrimp, mussels, corn and potatoes. Ate the dinner with hands (wearing gloves) and a plastic fork. The food was exceptional, will definitely return. I got medium spice which had quite a kick it thankfully no heartburn later. Aight, here's the run down. Just to preface this review, I'd like to think that I am quite the cajun seafood savant. LOL I'm pretty obsessed with this type of cuisine, and have tried many places in the West Coast, even making it at home myself. So this place is new. Been a couple of new cajun crawfish places that has popped up within the last year, so the hype has been on the rise. With my first time coming here with two other friends, we figured there would be a rather larger wait, so we called in to check the wait time, and ended up arriving a little earlier than normal so we don't end up waiting so long. Food: If you've ever been to Boiling Crab, the formula is pretty similar. Many different sides, ranging from french fries, to fried oysters, in addition to the seafood. I believe their options are: king crab legs, blue crab, shrimp, crawfish, oysters, and clams(?). Might be missing one or two. UNFORTUNATELY FOR US, they ran out of crawfish. Sad life. So we ended up getting the crab leg/shrimp combo, fried oysters and gumbo. Fried oysters was great. It came with a small side of fries, and my advice is to eat the fried oysters and hold off on eating the fries until you get the crawfish. The fries tastes unbelievable when you dip it into the sauce you get from the seafood. The gumbo was a little disappointing. It was very watered down and lacked substance and flavor. For our crab leg/shrimp combo, we got their Holly Sauce, which is the equivalent of Boiling Crab's "Whole She-bang". AKA butter, garlic, cajun seasonings, etc. They give you the options of heat, and we got medium, which for us was just right. The seafood tasted fine (TBH, I can't really tell fresh from frozen unless eating it side by side hahaha). I was a little disappointed with the sauce though. I felt that the cayenne was a little over powering, and masked the delicious goodness of garlic and buttery richness. Location: Located right across from Super 88, off of Packard's Corner. Plenty of places to find metered parking. However, if you keep going down Commonwealth Ave going away from Allston, you can find free 2 hour Brookline Parking on the first right side street you can take. The walk is less than 5 minutes from that street. RANT: So although we had pretty good service from our waitress, I have sort of an issue with the host/manager (?). Because I arrived a little late, I didn't really have an interaction with him until towards the end of our service. After completing my meal with my two friends, another friend randomly wanted to meet up for food and decided to meet up with me at Holly Crab. So as my first group of friends left, she comes in and is seated. So we thought that, because the kitchen closes in about 15-20 minutes and the restaurant closes in 30 minutes, it would more than enough time for one person to eat. So my friend places the order, and as we sit there, the host/manager comes up to us and asks for payment right away. Ok.. we figured it's probably because they're closing soon so they want to close out. No biggie. Then the dude comes out with the food in a to go bag and we ask, "Oh, we can't eat here? I thought the restaurant closes in about 20 minutes?" The host/manager looks at us, gives us a cold, simple "No," and walks away. Mic drop. Literally a big F U to my friend, because when the host/manager had given her the check before the meal, she had thought it was going to be a sit down meal so she provided tip in anticipation for it. GG. I think that interaction sort of ruined the experience for me. I understand that there's some miscommunication on both parties, but I think it's the responsibility of the restaurant to disclose or ask the customer if they're looking to do take out or sit in. read more

The shrimp were over cooked which they still charged us for- had to ask for them to charge us for half since half the shrimp where inedible (frankly this should have been taken off the bill) and we got a pound of king crab legs which were tasty. The menu says w 2 lbs of seafood, we should receive a potato and corn but the server stated it had to be 2 lbs of the same meat which really makes no sense. A pound of King crab is worth more than 2 lbs of shrimp! She tried to charge us separately for this -we declined. Overall will not be returning read more

I came in here for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday and left quite underwhelmed. I expected it to be kinda like Boiling Crab since the model is exactly the same. However, it was more like a watered down version of Boiling Crab. First of all, the servers were friendly and helpful. No complaints there. It's also cozy inside and you can comfortably talk to your dining companions. I ordered 1lb of shrimp with the holly crab sauce (mild) to share with my friend. Before I even tried the shrimp, I noticed the bag looked more like a half to quarter pound amount of shrimp. I order it at other restaurants and markets all the time and this was nowhere close to a pound. The shrimp was cooked well - no chewy/gummy texture which I appreciated (otherwise I'd probably give a 2 star rating). However, it tasted quite watery and bland, kind of like they cooked it separately and then just threw the sauce in the bag over it. The sauce was also barely spicy if at all. If you actually want to get a kick out of it, I'd suggest upping it from your average preference. Instead of the spiciness, all I could taste was salt. And a lot of it. So if you're in the mood to pay more for less food, and leave with your tongue dehydrated from the salt, then Holly Crab is the place for you. read more

I ordered 2 combos for take out at 5pm and didn't get to the restaurant until 5:45ish to pick it up. Food wasn't ready yet and a waitress asked if I could wait another 10 more minutes, after I already had waited for 5mins thinking it would be coming out soon. Having given them a significant amount of time to get things ready, this was a huge disappointment. The restaurant was also not busy when I came in, so given with almost an hour to have a take out order ready isn't really acceptable. read more
