Holy moly! They sure know how to run the taco game! You can get three tacos for $9, which seems about the norm for non-Taco Bell tacos these days. I got the fish taco and the chorizo taco. But big surprise! My favorite was the tofu and kimchi taco!! Surprisingly tasty and an interesting combination of flavors. Great gluten free options. We tried the Chorizo and the fish tacos. The fish tacos were lacking something-it was sort of bland and fishy tasting. The chorizo tacos were delish! Good flavor, we ordered sour cream and cheese on it for extra flavor! I am hit or miss with chorizo-this one was cooked very well. Food came out quick-there was one person in front of me and the food took about 5-7 minutes. The people next to us ordered the chicken tacos and they said they were the best! The green Holy Mole food truck was one of the first on the scene two or so years ago, and the fact that they are still around isn't really a surprise: Their tacos are so darn good! Let me elaborate. To start, they have excellent tortillas. They appear to almost be double layered, but when you munch into them they are soft and appropriately take second fiddle to the filling. As a friend put it, they're strange voodoo tortillas that keep the meat and veggies adequately encased but are also not too chewy at the same time. So after you get through the tortillas, your taste buds come into contact with the delicious fillings. On my most recent trip to this truck, I got three tacos: fish, chorizo and pork. The nice guy in the truck recommended the pork to me, but I actually preferred the fish and chorizo more. And each have their own distinct taste. You won't find the proteins doused in the same salsa and spices here. I also got plantains on the side with my recent order. I probably shouldn't have gotten them because the tacos left me so full, but the plantains were worth the packed tummy. And at about $10 for the order, the price can't be beat. Holy Mole is also pretty quick with getting orders out, which is definitely a plus. And these guys get around. I love that I can count on finding and eating from this truck regularly. read more

The taco is the ultimate street food, which makes them great for food trucks too. There are gringos out there who might argue in favor of the hot dog, but the taco has the decided advantage of allowing for endless variety, and the hot dog bun is no match for the tortilla. And since Louisville is somewhat lacking on the taco front, Holy Mole fills a beautiful niche. I only wish they would just follow me when I leave the house. They've stuck with the same basic formula for a couple years now -- several taco options (frequently including one veggie option), usually 3 tacos for $8. They are decidedly not traditional, but they stay within the basic confines of tradition -- warmed soft tortillas, red or green salsa on the side, always served with a lime and radish garnish. These guys are not getting rich doing this, but they clearly put thought and effort into their work. I love it every time I see the avocado-green truck. There's always room for a taco. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Walked over to 1st and Washington to try the sausages at Busta Grill and noticed a bright green food truck around the corner. Immediately I was confronted by the perplexing problem: Holy Mole or Busta Grill? Then the best solution became increasingly clear in my mind: eat at both! On this occasion there were four taco options: bbq beef, pork, fish and falafel. All of the tacos were $3.00 a piece and came on 6-inch tortillas. I opted for the bbq Korean beef and the pork (chorizo). The beef taco was quite tasty and was a perfect example of "fusion" food, 4-stars. The chorizo was good, but not all that special. I could probably get better chorizo tacos from Las Gorditas, 3-stars. Some of the ladies in line recommended the fish tacos, but I needed room in my stomach for an entree from Busta Grill so that will have to wait for next time. The extras included: cheese, sour cream, pickled onions, cilantro, radish, chipotle slaw and of course a lime on the side. I only opted for onions and cilantro with my pork taco, but I wish I had added some of the chipotle slaw. (Since he doesn't charge for the extras, I'll let them bump the rating up to 4-stars.) Overall Holy Mole was good and definitely left me wanting to try their other tacos. If you've had authentic Mexican tacos before, stay away from their pork tacos. They're good, but nothing special. Use your money and your stomach space to try some of their options. read more

I've never been to the freestanding restaurant, only to the food truck. If you are the owners, please visit close to Watterson Towers anytime/all the time!!! I love tacos, I actually live for them on work days! 2-3 corn tacos filled to the brim with delicious innards gets me PUMPED UP!! And full. I had the "chorizo" taco (which is basically a spiced up beef), chicken taco and a tofu/kimchi taco. I'm not a huge kimchi person because the ones I have had sucked. BUT this tofu/kimchi taco has me thinking that I just hadn't of found the right kimchi! Packed full of flavor, but lighter than, say, a deep fried taco? All mine were gluten free (yasss) and including a bottle water, I paid only $11 for my lunch! I was full for several hours, as these bad buys are crazy filling! If anyone knows a way to keep up with where the truck is at, I would really appreciate it! I want these tacos again sometime! read more

Today the truck was at Gallrein farms in Shelbyville. Service was fast. There were several choices and all were 3 tacos for $12 which seemed slightly on the high side for street tacos. I asked if I could mix and match selection and was told no. Since they all are 3 for $12 I'm not really sure why that isn't an option? I went with beef tacos. The beef was strip variety. Tacos arrived fast but were cold and chewy. Taco shells were corn soft taco variety but were overall dry. My wife ordered the Korean tofu tacos and she thought they were ok but not amazing. So overall I would rate experience 2.5 stars but since mixing and matching tacos was not an option I rounded down. read more

Nice try, Louisville! The ingredients are solid, the tacos are actually served on double corn tortillas, and the Coke is Mexican. I didn't like that the tacos must be ordered in groups of three, unlike being able to order just one of two. You can mix and match the tacos, and today there were four options: pollo pibil, tofu kimchee, fried fish, and chorizo and egg. The breakfast burrito had chorizo, egg, cheese, cilantro, and other ingredients. It all looked better than it tasted. The burrito appropriately had Mexican chorizo, which is wetter than Spanish chorizo. It was mostly chorizo and egg, with insufficient vegetables - adding beans, or increasing the amount of onions or cabbage would have been nice. Instead, the chorizo soaked the tortilla in grease, and my meat-loving companion couldn't finish it, as it was too heavy. The pollo pibil was okay, but could have had more flavor. The tofu kimchee - same. Perfect texture on the tofu, but it lacked spark. Needed more than just red salsa or lime juice. Needed a punch. The fried fish was good, and did have great sauce and a good amount of cabbage, but needed way more something... Punch. Anyway, good try. I would eat here again if it were my only option, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. It isn't a California taco truck by a long shot. The three tacos were $9, and the breakfast burrito was also $9. The ingredients were all obviously fresh. And they take credit cards. read more

I tried the green sauce on one and the red sauce on the other. Both were pretty darn tasty and, though it was still kind oily, for a food truck I felt like we did good! :) My one request would be to add a little more veggies to the tacos but that's it. Ok, so it's a few days after Old Louisville SpringFest and I'm still thinking about how I wish I ordered the corn on the cob. Next time when I'm not working at a festival and don't have to worry about eating neatly you will be mine, corn on the cob... So, here's the deal: this taco truck stands out for their meat and protein (fish, beef, chicken, tofu and I've seen other special choices) options and their affordability. Their price point is great, 3 tacos at a food truck for $8 is good in my book but these are also LOADED up with meat and fresh dressings like cilantro, kimchi, queso, etc. Just order that and you've got quite the filling meal. The chili rubbed beef brisket tacos were fantastically flavorful and I was happy to see a lime come with it. Just cause this is a truck doesn't mean they skimp on any of the important extras. One of the most notable aspects of this truck is that there's not a huge wait at all. There were two people in front of me and time to taco clocked in at around 7 minutes. read more

Tasty! I found their lunch location was by my work today, so I headed on down to get my taco on. Can't really miss the bright green truck! There was quite the crowd when I arrived - at least 20 people! There were 4 types of tacos on the menu, and because I'm a curious kind of gal, I decided to try 3 of them! I got the chorizo (came with onions and avocado salsa), chicken mole (with pickled onions), and vegetable rajas (with queso fresco). All were served authentic stylee with limes and radish slices. Prices were reasonable - $3.50 or $4 per taco. The tortillas, handmade, were awesome and delicate! However, eat quickly - they do get soggy and break apart even though they're double-layered. This could also be because it took me more time to eat 3 tacos! The veggie rajas was actually my favorite, and it surprised me! The chorizo was good, but not very strongly flavored as that to which I am accustomed. The chicken was tender, but I thought a little bit bland, though the pickled onions gave it a great punch! You can get some freebies on your tacos like shredded cabbage, onions, or cilantro, which is a great way to customize. There were also a red and green salsa available, along with Tapatio and Sriracha. Definitely following Holy Mole on Twitter, and would not hesitate to lunch there again! read more

I love good food. I love the growing trend of good food being mobile, so it goes with out saying I'd want to try this food truck. My husband and I were dying to try these tacos. Quite the dynamic chasing a food truck down adds to my glycemic index rapidly declining. A few times, while trying to track this bright green meal mobile down, we failed, miserably and I had to eat something that wasn't tacos. Not fun when you want to eat tacos. But the blessed day when we actually consumed their tacos-- which let me say I'm really glad my taste buds weren't jaded by starvation then, I'm not sure I would have trusted my judgement of the food-- they were amazing. Their special taco of the day was soft shell crab, soo good, the other fare included a bbq korean beef and a chorizo taco. Not so impressed with the chorizo, but the soft shell crab and korean beef were totally on par. They were on corn tortillas (which I think all tacos should be) and had lots of fixin's... chipotle cream sauce, typical cilantro, onions, and lime wedges. Simple but when tacos are done well (which these are) thats really all you need. Track these tacos down, you have to try them at least once read more

After having dined from this truck only twice, I might well become a truck stalker. It's quick. It's affordable. And it's mighty delicious. I've tried their tofu tacos, tofu quesadilla, falafel tacos and corn on the cob. All of the items were bursting with freshness and flavor. I'm a fan, as are my two- and six-year-old daughters. The truck has sold out at events, for good reasons. I've only had the luck to try it once (see sold out reason), but was satisfied. The corn on the cob definitely makes you want to come back for more! I'm a corn fan, but that does not mean I would go for any corn. The Holy Mole truck has eluded me for so long, but no more! I was finally able to grab some grub from here at the last Flea Off Market. Their sign only had prices for getting 3 tacos, but I was able to purchase just two (this was apparently an ok option as well, they just did not put it on their sign). I had the pork and the chorizo. So I just finished eating my chicken taco. Granted I ate it at the Actors Theater Block Party, I had to wait for a really long time, and I had to carry it several blocks back to my car, I was not overly impressed. The shells are corn and really dry. The whole taco was dry. The chicken was smokey and the cilantro and and onions were a nice touch. It was hard to get over the dryness. I ended up eating the insides with my fork. So good flavor, just make sure you have a beverage. I think I may go with another food truck next time. read more
