The shrimp Al Diablo is made from chilis grown and roasted on the owner's brother's farm in New Mexico. It is spicy with almost a sweet roasted flavor. Every bite will make you sigh with pleasure. The Chile Riano has a very thin badder and is covered in a tomato onion light red sauce. The pork tamale was so moist with AGAIN FLAVOR! Her food has the perfect amount of spice to flavor ratio. Honestly, I had one of the best chile rellenos I've ever had -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and just the right balance of crispy outside and soft, cheesy inside. I would go back just for that. My son ordered the nachos and they were incredible. They were loaded with real melted cheese m, and the portion was huge. He even commented that they weren't like typical nachos where you finish all the toppings and are left with a pile of plain chips -- every bite had something on it. That's how nachos should be. My boyfriend had a burrito and a taco, and they were the perfect amount of "Americanized" Mexican food -- comforting, satisfying, and exactly what you're craving after a long day. Even my well tequila and soda was surprisingly good quality, which is always a nice bonus. What really stood out, though, was the staff. The waiters were incredibly kind. They took extra time to talk to my son about his newly broken shoulder, even helping adjust his sling and offering words of encouragement. That level of genuine care meant a lot to us. Visited on our way to Mammoth. The food was decent, but just because someone visited Mexico or lives in San Diego doesn't mean they actually understand what authentic Mexican food tastes like. Especially when they can't even name a chile relleno correctly and call it "chile riano", that says a lot. Plus the salsa didn't live up to the hype, it was just average. On the positive side, the service from our waitress was excellent. Unfortunately, the waiters definitely need more training; they seemed disinterested in customer service, which was a letdown. I probably won't be coming back, mainly because while the food was good, the service from the male staff was disappointing. The female who took our order, though, was fantastic! On the road from Indio heading home to Reno. Didn't realize they closed at 9pm all the while rolling in at 8:50. THEY WERE STILL KIND ENOUGH TO SEAT AND SERVE US!!! Walking in, this place has the most beautiful and authentic decor. There are actual family photos and so much more. Next time, we will come a lot earlier just so we can go along each wall individually to see everything. We tried asada nachos, chicken enchiladas and the big man meal (3 items served with rice and beans). 1) asada nachos: very fresh and flavorful. The carne asade was delicious and not fatty at all. 2) enchiladas: good red sauce, great flavor and shredded chicken to boot. 3) we got 3 tacos (asada, chicken & lingua). Ordinarily, I WILL NOT eat the tongue tacos, but I feel as though I could have gotten 3 of them and have been just fine. IT WAS DELICIOUS AND did not have a weird texture or flavor as I have seen or rather tasted in the past. The asada and chicken were really good as well and again no weird textures or fatty pieces. The rice and beans had amazing flavor as well and all of the vegetables involved were crisp and fresh!!! Francisco, (the owner), was very personable. He even seated and served us himself. Then came over and told us that his folks had started this great little place and he took over in 2019 pre-covid. Well Francisco, kudos to you my new found friend and we are super glad you were able to maintain through the pandemic!!! See you this time next year if not sooner!!! Beef wasn't traditional flap steak used in fajitas, I don't know what they use, but it's long, dry strips of beef and did not come on a cast iron skillet, sizzling. The chips and salsa for the table were so good; I believe they fry their own tortilla chips. Their prices may be considered on the higher side, but the portions are a little bit larger; you do get your monies worth. I ordered the chimichanga special (with beef and comes with rice and beans). Taqueria Las Palmas is the worst Mexican food I've eaten in all my years. We were directed here by some of our Mexican neighbors who claimed it was authentic. Sadly, we found this not to be true. First, the decor is old and dated. Perhaps for some, there is a "charm"? To us it was depressing. I ordered the Chile Colorado. Was that sloppy-looking pinkish stuff without taste supposed to represent refried beans? Yuk! The rice was bland and tasteless too. The meat wasn't well cooked or flavored either. Even their chips and salsa were lacking, watery, and bland. Only the Modelo Especial I ordered tasted as it should. Oh, and their restroom was filthy! Disappointing is an understatement for this place. If zero stars were possible I'd give that. I've eaten at some excellent hole-in-the-wall Mexican food places in both San Diego and the SF Bay Area, and even Chicago, which knocked my socks off! We recently came up to the area as new transplants not living here permanently, but it has become our absolute favorite place to eat. The service is amazing. It's a home way from home and we love it.. we love that his family run. We love that they are just welcoming and they know our faces and it's just in a small town such a comfort.
