OH MY! HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!!!! Through pure serendipity (actually, a Yelp search!) I found this bougie, delicious, mysterious local distillery. You can book a distillery tour, or a tasting tour - I did the latter. The outside looks like absolutely nothing, but when you walk in you are transported into a mystical upscale sitting room straight out of the 1920s, complete with antique decor and tall, slender Art Deco bottles of liquor. When you book a private tour, Ray takes you and your party through an antique vault door into a tall room with whiskey barrels, shiny chrome and copper distilling tubes and towers, beakers, glasses, a bar counter, and more antique chairs. Then you go up a staircase into ANOTHER private sitting room with a window that looks down on the distilling room - but it's dark and quiet, decorated carpet to crown molding with impeccable antique furniture, artwork, and crystal drinkware. There was a small charcuterie board prepared when I got there, and a large pitcher of water (which I was really glad for!) Ray also has experience as a bartender and she is a mixologist, she can give you all the hottest tips on mixed drinks and other locally made mixers! I tried their grape based vodka, two types of gin, shochu, and absinthe. Ray went through the story of the local distillery and its owners, the roots of the names, where they source their ingredients, and what the liquors pair well with. They were very strong, very delicious, extremely mixable! I absolutely cannot wait to cocktail with these! And now I'm noticing their liquors are everywhere in use in other local businesses. My personal favorites were the Cerulea gin and Apparition absinthe. What an amazing experience, I'm ready to go back! EXCELLENT! Tip: EAT something before you come to a tasting, you will be sipping liquor here. Another tip: Because of Utah liquor laws you can't book a distillery tour and a tasting tour all in one. Both are very affordably priced and it will give you an excuse to come back! P.S. Bottles for sale downstairs!

I had such a great experience at Holystone Distilling! It's a very cute spot with high-quality products. They also have the kindest owners. They offer distillery tours, which is a fun weekend activity! They have ample street parking right in front of their distillery. Check them out!

Out of the winery and distillery tours we've done all over our travels, this is definitely the most thoughtful. I don't want to give anything away because you need to do the tour! I loved their spirits but now I love them more learning the details behind the brand. Also, I'm not a spirits expert by any means, but for us they're the best vodka and gin we've had.

This place is absolutely phenomenal. We did a tour and tasting for date night and had the most amazing time. As a Navy brat I loved all the nods to the Navy and had to get my Dad a couple bottles. The whole experience is about 45 min to an hour if you need to plan around dinner reservations. They provide some SUPER yummy charcuterie that pairs amazing with the different spirits they offer throughout the tasting. My absolute favorite was the Shochu, it was SO smooth, but most of them were! We loved how informative our tour/tasting guide was, she was super friendly and knowledgeable and could answer all of our questions. We can't wait to visit this place again and share our new found favorites with friends and family.

Utah's first Vodka distilled from grapes. Truly delicious and smooth to swallow.

I cannot say enough good about the phenomenal experience we had during our time at Holystone! When I read that one of their standards was to be "ENCHANTING" I thought to myself....they hit the nail on the head.....hard! We were blown away and truly enchanted by everything from the stunning, detail oriented decor (Art Deco, 20's Navy ship engine room, etc.) to the delicious spirits that danced across our tongues. I'm a Gin fan and their Navy-strength Gin is the best that I've had......(57% btw) and this is the first time I've tried my fiancee's favorite....Absinthe (61.5%) which was delicious! Ethan (one of the owners) was so charming and informative. It really was the best date night we could've asked for. Check them out!!

What an incredible experience. The entire distillery is themed around mariner times, with subtle nuances of early 20th century Americana and naval design. The tastings were delicious and expertly paired with a diverse charcuterie board of chocolates and cheeses. Barbie (the co-owner) was my host and explained how the blue gin changes to pink when citrus is added, being in support of breast cancer awareness. There are too many details to write in one review, but my experience was so memorable, and I would recommend this distillery to anyone in the area looking to try local gin or vodka.

On my fourth visit to SLC I finally got to shop in one of these fabled State Liquor Stores. Unsure…read morewhat to expect, I assumed prices would be marked up to Hell and the selection wouldn't be great compared to what I am used to back home where we can get liquor any ol place. It turns out I was incorrect on both counts. My Utah resident friend is not much into beer, so instead of dragging her to local breweries, I picked up some mix and match cans of local brews here. (Craft beer is mostly singles, more domestic or popular stuff you can get in packs.) I got three of them and one foofoolala watermelon hard lemonade for around $10. What a steal. The beers were Jenny P. beers too, so stouts and a belgian of higher %. I was very happy about the pricing. All of the beers turned out to be bangers, too. I rated them highly on untappd. The store layout was in nearly thirds, one each for beer, liquor, and wine. A good portion of the beer section was seltzers and foofoo stuff, but they had a decent selection of actual beer, and half of it was Utah brewed beer. There are people here making it and consuming it, and it's good. Be not afraid. I got a kick out of the warning signs at the entrance. The church government does not want its subjects to consume adult beverages. Hence the whole having to buy alcohol in a specific store run by the govmint. You can also buy beer from breweries just fyi. I get lost trying to keep track of all the rules making it harder to be a degenerate. But I digress, there was also a security guy by the door and everyone buying here gets ID'ed, which is not too different from back home. I found customer service to be just fine, and found what I needed easily. Everything was well organized and again the prices were unbelievable. The yelp listings for these are not always accurate, and I tried to make a new entry for this one with the correct address because it wasn't pulling up for me. Yelp merged it together with another location, but at least the address is correct now. This was the one I went to. There are many in the Salt Lake area. I would come back to sin at the State Liquor store again when I'm in town next time. They are closed on Sunday, shocking.

Instead of waiting until checkout like everywhere else, he singled us out and treated us like we were doing something suspicious just for existing in the store. We had zero issue showing ID. We are of legal age and obviously would have presented them at the register when purchasing, like everyone else. The problem was the employee's attitude and obvious assumption that he had "caught" two underage customers. The interaction felt rude, condescending, and completely unnecessary. What made it worse was how public and embarrassing it was. Other customers were around while this guy decided to go on a power trip for no reason. Then, the second he realized we were legal, he disappeared to the back and didn't say another word. No apology, no professionalism, nothing. If employees are going to profile customers and make them feel uncomfortable while shopping, maybe they should at least know how to interact with people respectfully afterward. Completely killed the mood and guaranteed we won't be returning to this location.

Just like a normal liquor store, I am always nervous to go inside because there are so many glass bottles and I'm worried about bumping into something and crashing the whole wall down. But there are baskets that you can pile your drink choices into, and there is plenty of room to maneuver your basket.

A few words of advice for those of you planning on drinking in Utah... plan ahead!…read more We decided to go pick up a bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne from this "Store 37" on 12/31 - just about 8 hours before New Years Eve. So did the rest of the Park City Community... there was a line out the door! Along with really strict liquor laws in Utah, the state governs the liquor stores and the number of people that can enter at one time. It was kind of funny actually, but quite a unique experience. Once we made it through the line to get inside, we browsed the mediocre selection and picked up a few things only to wait in another line to check out. Our mission was worthwhile, however, we did return with alcohol to bring in the new year! An additional thing to note, however, is that the state of Utah puts a special sticker on every single bottle of alcohol that is sold in their state. We found this out the hard way... we brought a special bottle of wine with us to dinner one night - one we'd brought from home here in AZ - and were told they could not cork it for us as it was not bought in the state of Utah. Jared actually tried to tell the waiter that indeed it was (not knowing the sticker deal at that point). Just a heads up and hopefully that will help out in your future plans! And for you naughty little yelpers, FYI - it is possible to transfer the stickers from one bottle to another. (I didn't say legal, but I did say possible). Happy new year!
