I've always been obsessed with hard cider, so when I saw there was a bar that opened in Salt Lake City that was dedicated to showcasing hard ciders I had to check it out! Per the suggestion of the bartender, I started with a rose hard cider that happened to be from Vermont, which is where I'm originally from! The second one I ordered was a pineapple hard cider. Both were delicious - not too sweet and perfectly refreshing. They had several ciders from all over the US, including a couple from Vermont which was very exciting for me to see. There were quite a few ciders on tap, and several different options in cans as well. This bar is in such a great location - right on 9th west by Laziz and Water Witch. I'm excited to see how this area grows and changes as more businesses start popping up. I'm also excited for the warmer weather so people can start enjoying the patio area! They don't currently sell food - they have some chips and nuts to snack on, but there are businesses nearby that sell great food and you can bring in food from other places. I'm excited to see this place grow as this area in SLC grows, and am looking forward to coming back and enjoying some more Vermont ciders.

    Ask about their specialty ciders!

On a visit to SLC for work, I was lucky enough to hear that Scion opened about a month ago just down the street from my office. Coming from Denver, I LOVE the cider scene and jumped at the chance to try some local flavors. Little did I know, that I would run into a couple other Denverites and the 4 of us would spend hours chatting with Rio, the owner/manager and tasting a wide range of local and import ciders and even a mead! I cannot understate how friendly and knowledgable Rio is. His background is beer/breweries, but he has brought his passion over to the newer frontier of ciders and I really enjoyed learning from him. He offers 20 ciders on draft (yes, you can get tasters of all of them!) as well as wine, mead and a couple beers. You can also order full cans, bottles and specialty ciders. He has really curated an impressive assortment of dry ciders, fruited ciders and unique flavors like pine, lemongrass, ghost pepper, chile guava and more. It sounds like he has a lot in store for Scion in the coming months - I'll definitely be back on my next visit!

I really enjoy this place for their wide selection of ciders and casual atmosphere. It's great they have flights to try a variety of options. Their charcuterie is simple but all the ingredients were fresh and delicious. A great spot for a casual date or meet up with friends! Will be back again!

It's so cool that this area has a dedicated cider bar, with a huge selection and knowledgeable staff to guide the decision-making process. We're pretty new to hard cider and got a couple of flights- "fruity" and "funky". My favorite was definitely the Original Sin Black Widow, which is a blackberry cider and pretty sweet. We also got non-alcoholic warm mulled cider, which was spiced to perfection and was an excellent drink on a snowy afternoon. This seems like a fun and low-key place to try something new, and they even have an outdoor patio.

Concept is cool, coders galore! However, I was extremely overwhelmed at the copious amounts of ciders. Maybe I need peruse the menu on a larger screen before hitting up this joint vs viewing the menu on a small phone screen? You can't even select your own flight, it's preselected for you on the menu board. I ordered an 11pt cider and it didn't even come in pint size -didn't even get a buzz. Taste was good but can't remember the darn cider I ordered :(

The only possibly negative thing I could say about this place is the parking sucks. If you like cider this is a must visit.

I really wanted to leave because it was taking too long just to place our order for drinks, so that was already a red flag for me. As soon as I told my husband let's get ready to go, the server came to take our drink order. I should have gone with my instincts then and left. The reviews were good at this restaurant so we wanted to try it out. It took a while for us to order our food after ordering our drinks because the waiter just took a long time--no surprise there. Once we received our food and the food arrived, upon sight I could tell my crawfish etouffee wasn't going to be good. I eat this meal a lot and I could tell by the color of the roux that I wasn't going to enjoy it, but I remained optimistic. You know looks can be deceiving! What I did not expect was that the food was going to taste as awful as it did!!! It was almost to the point where it wasn't edible. I probably took a few bites and didn't touch the rest. I gave my husband some and he said it wasn't good at all. The alligator cheesecake was such a cleaver idea and cool concept, but it just didn't taste good either. I hate to say this, but I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

After traveling all the way from California to Chicago, being rejected at the entrance because my ID was expired felt beyond outrageous and unreasonable. I am 52 years old and clearly look my age. If I were a young person trying to enter underage, I could understand the concern, but that was obviously not the situation. At what point does common sense matter? Does an 80-year-old also need to prove their age to sit down and eat? I was perfectly legal to dine at this restaurant, and instead of being treated with understanding, I was turned away. What disappointed me most was the stubbornness and lack of empathy from the person at the entrance. A restaurant experience begins before the meal, and unfortunately this experience left me feeling frustrated, saddened, and unwelcome. It is disappointing when people cannot see beyond rigid rules and use a little human judgment.

I had high hopes for locally brewed beer and Asian cuisine, but nothing really hit the mark. Beer was okay. Lukewarm, and decidedly not crispy nor refreshing. Our group was three and we tried a lot of the food on the menu and nothing really hit. The pickled cucumbers were good. The dumplings (which we were told by our server are handmade) were genuinely flavorless and the wrapper was way too thick and chewy. We tried the pork buns as well, same issue, a serious lack of flavor and seasoning. Pork belly entree was middling, just a flavor profile that didn't work. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was fried crispy but the sauce and toppings were unmemorable and lacked any kind of punch or umami to speak of. It came with a side of food service fries, which were crispy but served with plain old ketchup. Oh by the way everything is expensive. Starters were $15+ and most entrees, including noodle soups were $20+ which is crazy. Cocktails were $18 and no wine pour less than $16. The only thing cheap is the beer which makes sense because it was mediocre at best. Server brought the check, said "no rush" and then we waited while he sat three tables, brought drinks for three tables and took two food orders. After 15 minutes I took the bill to the till and had him run it in front of me. I still tipped because I'm not that person. Not going back, there's better beer and Asian food elsewhere.
