I didn't realize that for a wine sampling like that, it was $3 bucks... We got just a glass, and I went for a custom cocktail. This one was the first: a cathedral-style brewpub with a sports bar aesthetic, with decent food, decent drinks, decent service, and decent prices. Everything was decent. You're not likely to be disappointed by anything you order, but you're not likely to be blown away by anything, either (another thing Squatters has in common with McMenamins, I'd say). During our second visit (to another location, but I'm sure the same rule applies), our party was only interested in ordering drinks (one per person, mind you), but we were informed that we *had* to order some sort of food to accompany them (I'm sure this is more of a Utah thing, rather than a Squatter's thing, but still annoying), so bear that in mind if you're looking for a place to just chill with a beverage and watch a game. Still, the vibe here is lively and friendly; assuming your server is as well, which was a coin flip, in our experience. For a fast, casual chain of brewpubs, Squatters has a lot going for it, and I can see why they are popular, as clearly as I can see ways in which they can improve. A little more focus, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence, and Squatters could absolutely dominate in SLC, and beyond.

It literally took us about 2 minutes from the time we got the text to the time we got to the hostess stand. Both girls at the hostess stand were rude and unfriendly. I get that it was a busy Friday night, but this behavior was uncalled for. We definitely will not be back to this location.

The host was great, very friendly very personable. We original wanted to sit outside because it was a nice day but they didn't have any shade. So we sat inside. Our waitress was intentive at first. I don't like that they won't bring cold ice water. I have to go get my own water that's lukewarm. It Was very warm in there probably 80° or hotter. They had no air flow in there no air conditioning. The door to the outside seating was wide open. We were sweating and very uncomfortable. Our waitress took our drink order then came back and we told her what appetizer we wanted to start with, before we could tell her what entree we wanted she took off. We just thought okay I guess she's in a hurry so we'll just tell her our order when she comes back with the appetizer. 5 minutes later she shows up with the appetizer but then doesn't take our food order and just leaves. Then she never came back. I thought she'd at least come back to check on our drinks or see how our appetizer was tasting but no. 30 minutes later after we finished our appetizer and definitely needed another drink by then. We decided to just leave. We wanted to try a couple of different beers and get 1 Pizza each. Not a very good waitress. Plus I was already sweating to death so I couldn't wait to get out of there. Who doesn't turn on their air conditioning when it's over 80° outside?

My wagyu steak came out and I was irritated that the salad hadn't come first. But then the salad didn't come at all. Bummer. And the steak was questions all around. First they didn't know what cut of steak it was. "It's Wagyu" they said, as if all that mattered was where it came from. And just to make sure I wasn't an idiot, I looked up to make sure that Wagyu, like other beef, had various cuts. And the meal was rather salty. And the steak was far closer to rare than medium. And it was served au poivre style, which I would have like to have known. Service was excellent. The Scottish Old-Fashioned excellent. The libation selection is unparalleled. The bar seats have a weird spring to backing so it's more like sitting on a stool with a slight back brace.
