One of my friend told me about this nice place several years ago but never been there until I had lunch there after Shangri La tour. I regret that it took me a long time to come here. It's so nice and the food was good. I thought parking was difficult (street parking) but I found out that if you are going to the museum, you can park at the Art School which is diagonally across the street for 5 hours max for $5. You can just go to the café. At the entrance they'll give you a sticker to put on so you can go the café but not the museum exhibit. The café is open air so it feels nice. Service was nice too. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I had Grilled Piadina ($18) which is grilled flatbread panini (more like tortilla) with goat cheese, pesto, prosciutto and few other things in it. I loved it! It came with salad so the portion and food balance was perfect for me. It had Japanese menu so my friend was happy. read more

We made a trip over to the Honolulu Art Museum during our recent trip and had one of our best meals at the Art Cafe. What a nice surprise! I had the curried turkey salad and my husband had the chicken breast sandwich. Both were delicious, and my husband couldn't stop talking about how good the sandwich was, which I found surprising, but hey, he was happy. It's a really pleasant place that's outdoors but covered and comfortable. Our server was nice and made our experience even better. We needed to make a reservation and wait about half an hour for our table, so we suggest you do that if you want to make sure you get to eat during your visit. read more

I love having lunch here! I was recently back after almost a year and a half, because of the pandemic. It was so nice to see the cafe bustling with people and the service and food still excellent. How does this place make money? You need a reservation even with half of the tables unoccupied. Three tables are "walk up" but there's no requirement that people even order anything so if you want to actually sit and have a drink or snack, you won't be able to dislodge the ones just sitting there. Add to that the snobby, don't want to help you attitude of the check in people and the super slow service. Can't comment about the food, just don't go here expecting a special time. Today is Sunday, I love Sundays. All week is hustle and bustle. Then Saturday rolls around and it's hectic getting things done that you had no time to do during the week. But on Sunday, it's time to kick back, relax, go to church if that's your thing, have a late brunch, take a drive or go to the beach. Today, I decided to have lunch at the Honolulu museum of art cafe. This gem is my go to place for quiet and serene downtime. From the moment you walk into this historic building, you are transported back to an elegant time for Hawaii. HOMA was originally the home of Anne Rice Cooke snd Charles Montegue Cooke, both descendants of prominent missionary families. Built in 1882, it was later chartered as a museum in 1922 and opened its doors to the public in 1927. The museum itself is a treasure and its architecture with open courtyards and landscapes make it a wonderful place to spend a few hours whether you are a local resident or visitor to these islands. But on this Sunday, my primal desire was just to eat. The cafe is located in the middle of the museum. It's doors open to a beautiful courtyard dominated by huge ceramic art pieces and a zen like water wall feature. Since Covid, diners order and pay upon checkin. Tables are socially distanced but it was never a crowded restaurant even pre-Covid. There's no music, but that is what makes the whole experience worth while. The ambiance is soothing and in many ways healing. Visually breathtaking, the calm of the water wall and delicious food. I had the turkey curry salad, it was enough for 2 hearty meals. Fantastic! With blackberries, cashews, mixed greens topped with a balsamic vinegar dressing. The presentation was stunning. My guest had a house made salmon burger with lemon dill dressing and a large salad dressed with walnuts and grated Parmesan cheese. I really wanted to taste it but was polite in not asking. Meals are served on artful plates. Like the museum, dining in the cafe is understated elegance, I've never been disappointed with any selection and I think I have tried everything on the menu, including desserts. Speaking of which, the chocolate pot de creme is to die for, a signature dish. I always find parking on the street and kitty corner to the museum has ample parking in their art center, Linekona, lunch is 11-2pm. No reservations necessary. Check in at the museum entry fee. There is no entrance fee if you are only dining but one day please support the museum. I promise you will not be disappointed. OH! and do not miss the gift shop! Fantastic selection of gifts, cards, toys, clothing, art pieces from around the world, unique jewelry, books and so much more. What a wonderful lunch! Honolulu Museum of Modern Art is a wonderful quant museum. We also had reservation at their cafe. The ambiance was very relaxing and calm. We were surrounded by the beauty of the flowers and protective with beams above. The menu was amazing. It was filled with fabulous salads and light dishes. My husband ordered the ahi salad and I ordered the warm goat cheese salad. Both salads were refreshing and delicious. The cools drinks - ginger lemonade and island iced tea were a perfect match with the salads. Outside parking is available on Victoria Street. Price is reasonable- $5 for 5 hours. Pavilion Cafe is located at located at Honolulu Museum of Art. I love coming here to visit the museum and grabbing lunch on the weekends when my busy schedule allows me some free time. Service is fast and friendly. The atmosphere is quite peaceful. They have good sandwiches and salads. My go to is the classic piadina and their rotating soup specials, I love the coconut chicken rice & ginger pumpkin soup, which is always great. Make sure you save room for desserts, they have some really good desserts specials recently that are a must try. On a few recent visits there was a creamy orange tart with ice cream, which the server said was made in house. WOW! homemade ice cream. On another visit I had this flour-less chocolate cake with lemony berries, chocolate cream, and crunchy chocolate bits, that taste really good all together. Going to the Honolulu Museum of Art is fun and relaxing. Always passed by the cafe but never really looked at the menu, since we are so busy looking at the beautiful art. Always wanted to try the cafe out, so one day we did. On the day that we went, it was a weekday and during lunchtime but not that many people were dining. We went when it was about to close, at around 1:00. Luckily there were plenty seats and we didn't have to reserve. I got the portabello mushroom sandwich and it came with a salad with grated parmesan cheese and walnuts about $16. It was a wonderful sandwich if you don't want the heaviness of meat and the balsamic vinegar flavor was delicious. The salad was light and fresh and the walnuts had a little sugar on top. Aloha, HMA Cafe is a solid lunchtime restaurant in the courtyard of the Honolulu Museum of Art. Serving up classic fresh salads, sandwiches & soup. For my birthday, our son declared we're having a triple F day (forced family fun). He bought tickets on his phone and we headed down. We had a great day enjoying all of the art work & displays. Besides the art work, we got to enjoy the HMA Cafe. Son's GF had the portabella burger served with salad, it was huge & she said it was delicious, son had the chicken bacon burger with salad, he said best he's had in a long time. Hubby had the cream of mushroom soup, which I snuck a taste of, it was absolutely wonderful. I had the turkey curry salad, very good & huge (hubby had to finish it). We tried the specials of the day, ono sandwich ($20), mushroom pasta ($21), and portobello mushroom sandwich ($17, a regular menu item), and everyone loved their selection! Lemonade w ginger ($3.50) was a refreshing side, and yes, we saved room for desseet, pineapple upside down cake ($8). I started with the portugese bean soup. It was your average tasting zippy's style portugese bean soup. For my main dish, I had the steak sandwich. Again, very normal.....nothing outstanding. The food here is always so delicious and beautifully presented! On certain occasions the cafe will also have live music (acoustic or a DJ). They sell alcohol which is a nice touch for an art museum. Got to the cafe a little before noon, then had to wait for about an hour to get seat...so if you're hoping to grab a fast lunch, you're best ordering take out. Ordered the Piadina which was a flat bread with arugula, tomatoes, mozzarella, cucumbers, and pancetta. It tasted pretty good and was big! It looked like a huge taco to be honest. Service was pretty good. The waiters checked up on my friend and I...but it just got me upset when they chucked my $15 Piadina into a brown bag and foil. I never even knew this cafe existed within the museum. Actually, I haven't visited so duh obviously I would not know. Lol After the shangri la tour, my friend had informed me that she had made lunch reservations for the both of us at 1pm. It's located not to far from the entry way, but we did ask for confirmation, so that we didn't end up at another part of the museum;) Once we arrived the hostess seated us quickly. Within a minute of being seated our waiter greeted us with menus. It was relatively quiet on a Saturday afternoon, but I believe it was because it was going to close in an hour. I was on my many diets so I ended up ordering pan seared salmon market salad. It was accompanied with couscous, nalo greens, market vegetables and balsamic vinaigrette. The salmon was light, fresh, meaty and very flavorful. I felt the vegetables was giving my body a nice detox:) My friend ordered the warm goat cheese salad. Oh how I love goat cheese... have to have strong will power to say no. lol To cool off she had an Arnold palmer, and I the shangri la tropical ice tea. Service was quite slow, so once our drinks were depleted we did not see our waiter till closing. By then, the check was given and we had to leave. Overall it was a good experience. Went to the museum during the free evening event. Got a time reserved via online free tickets. They had live music so we got a table which was self seating. They didn't have regular table service like pre-covid so you go up to the order table. I got the Herb chicken sandwich, they give you a number to place on your table so know were to bring your food when it's ready. The service was super friendly too! My sandwich came fairly quickly and was delicious (came with a nice salad too). I didn't finish my sandwich so they gave me a environmentally friendly box but they don't have bags to carry it in. After a while, a few of us decided to take a look at some of the contemporary art but I wasn't able to take my food box inside. Luckily I was able to leave my it with others in our group. You don't need to be a member to eat here which is nice if you also want to check out the art, but if you have a supporting membership like I do you'll also get 10% off here. I love them deals! I LOVE this place. I just wish I could stop ordering those damn good anaheim peppers! Every time my friends and I come here for lunch, we swear we're going to try something different -- but, of course, always end up getting our usual orders (they both get the olive tapenade sandwich). Man . . . Anaheim peppers with lightly toasted triangles of bread, topped with chopped garlic and anchovies. Try it. You must. If you are not allergic to ginger (or lemons, I guess), you must also try the ginger lemonade. I don't typically like the taste of ginger, but it fits so well with the lemonade, which is not at all too sweet. And don't forget to finish off your meal with their delicious iced coffee. The ambiance? Three words: Al fresco dining. (Wait, is that technically two words? Whatever.) It's gorgeous, even on a slightly rainy day. My only complaints: 1. They're closed Mondays. 2. You have to make your reservations on an answering machine. They only call you back if they cannot accommodate you at your preferred date/time, which kinda bites because then you have no way of knowing whether they got your message at all. From salads to sandwiches... and desserts! mmm! I would come here for lunch everyday if I could! Price is ok. The only down fall is the hours... I think it's open for 3 hours just for lunch... and parking is kind of a b****. But parking sucks everywhere in town. Bathrooms are ok... lots of stairs. I've been to Pavillion Cafe on several occasions, and I always enjoy the serene, contemporary setting of this beautiful outdoor cafe, within the grounds of the Honolulu Academy of Arts. I especially love the sound of the water fountain in the background while I dine and sip on ginger lemonade. It's a perfect place for a lunch date with just about anyone - your mom, your dad, your girlfriends, boyfriends, hubbys, wives, siblings....you get my point. There's something for everyone. The menu is simple with mostly sandwiches, salads, pasta and don't forget dessert. Everything is pretty fresh, and has a gourmet touch to it. Most of their breads are house made including rolls, foccacia and whole wheat buns. Some of my favorites are the pan seared salmon salad, the portobello mushroom sandwich and chocolate pot de creme. Oh! And I can't forget the ginger lemonade! I also have tried the roasted ham sandwich, which was a little dry for my taste, but not too bad. On my last visit, we had a inattentive, un-hospitable waiter, and there were some mistakes with our orders and dressing forgotten with our salads, however on my other visits, service has always been pleasant. Hope this was just an off day. Reservations are a little trick, but reccomended before going. You call ahead of time and leave a message of what day, time and how many in your party. There are specific times, that are something like every 15 minutes starting from 11:30. Check their website for the specific times. If you DONT hear back from them, it means you got your reservation. There's plenty of parking in the lot across the street, BEFORE the museum on the left side of the street coming down S. Beretania St. If you have a stroller or a wheelchair, there are two entrances on either SIDE of the museum (none in the front) from which you can enter from. This is definitely a favorite spot for a beautiful afternoon lunch! read more

The place is very posh and being outside is a nice feeling especially working in the office all day. The service is quick and very accommodating.
