Tiny spot so they cram you in. Loud when children are not behaving. The Benedict is bad - it isn't really Benedict because the bread ratio is awful. More bread than anything else combined so that is all you taste. Service is average for nowadays, I wouldn't call it great or subpar - just average. I wasn't a fan overall. read more

Stopped in for the first time this weekend and can't say enough good things about this place. We were treated like family from the get-go, we sat at the counter and had some really great conversations with the people working, it felt like stepping back to a time when everyone knew everyone. Never mind that we'd never been in before, we were treated just like the (very obviously) regular sitting next to us. Everybody was catching up with each other, sharing family stories...it was like a whole different world. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time I was in. As for the food, delicious. Simple, hot, fresh, amazing...everything a Sunday breakfast should be. We shared a cinnamon roll, which was huge, fluffy and perfectly sweet, and I got the 2-2-2 with sausage, scrambled eggs, and blueberry pancakes. The "small" pancakes were huge and cooked perfectly. It's a small spot and there may be a bit of a wait but I promise it's worth it. They're efficient but don't rush you by any means, you'll be treated like family, and you'll get a fantastic meal. After a few years of coming here now I can honestly say this is by far the Best Cafe in the Denver area. Small and always busy is Indicative of the outstanding food and incredible service. Terrible. Has really gone downhill. Ordered steak and eggs. Steak came out gray and was about as tough as a hockey puck (medium rare?! I think not) only to be told that that was in fact how I ordered it. Hash browns looked great, crispy on top, but complete mush in the center. To say everything was under seasoned is an understatement, BLAND BLAND BLAND. Well, the food was pretty good. I got the Denver omelette with avocado which I enjoyed. It wasn't dry like omelette often can be. I am pretty sure it's due from it being cooked in a lot of butter which is probably why it tasted good. A little more butter than I prefer but the place is called Home Cookin Cafe so cant really complain there. The reason I'm giving two stars is because the service was extremely slowwwww. My boyfriend and I got seated as soon as walked in and it took 15 minutes before our order got taken and then another 30 before our food arrived. Total of 45 minutes before ate. Another couple who walked in just after us ate, paid, and left before we even got our food. What made it frustrating was that the server had no empathy for the long wait. When we mentioned that the other couple had since left and we hadn't received our food she just said " some food comes out faster. We bring it out as soon as it's ready". We ordered two simple entrees so I'm not sure why it'd take so much longer. Anywho, food was good once we got it. Service was poor. read more

The food and the service is top notch! I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs and my husband had the Mexica Omelette. Both were absolutely amazingly delicious. The servers were all quite wonderful and attentive. The chai I ordered was delicious. We will definitely be back here as often as we can. The space is very small, so I would highly suggest going on a weekday during non-peak hours, if you are able. My party of two were seated in 10 minutes for brunch. Coffee and orange juice was served promptly and refills for coffee were frequent! Dishes ordered were the chicken florentine in a rolled up crepe accompanied with spinach and mushrooms, but what makes the dish shine, is the savory hollandaise sauce poured on top. Get it, you won't regret it! The second dish ordered was the Stacker - chicken fried steak all cut up, topped with two eggs cooked to preference (I always love my eggs basted) layered with hashbrowns and topped off with globs of delicious gravy. The food is good. As a vegetarian, they have a few options for me to survive eating there. It's always really busy, which is a good sign. The best thing about it is a middle-aged lady server with super short spiky hair. She's a sweet and funny riot and makes the experience enjoyable!!! Also, I think the manager (maybe the owner) noticed my glass was empty and he immediately jumped into action and apologized (which no apology was needed). This is my favorite place for breakfast. We came in because of yelp and now we are devoted regulars. First things first, the oatmeal pancake with pecans is AMAZING. It consistently manages to get my wife and I out of bed on weekends to come here and eat it. My wife normally doesn't like pecans but LOVES this pancake as do I. I cannot say enough about how good it is, store reading, just order! The staff is super friendly and it feels very homey and comfortable in here. All of the other food- hash browns, eggs, toast, burgers, fries, everything we ever have here is delicious. Just go already and definitely start with breakfast.
