Every town does (or if they don't, they should!) have a local donut shop that serves up the best, fresh donuts around. For the town of Joliet, it's Home Cut Donuts! Their sour cream donut is absolutely scrumptious. Cake like density, but a mild, not too sweet flavor with a nice glaze - this donut was great. Another favorite is the cherry cake donut. Their plain glazed is my favorite right after Krispy Kreme. The prices are absolutely phenomenal, and if you're not too hung up, you could get a whole dozen of day old donuts for $5! These donuts are so good!!! I would definitely ride out there to get them. I have to start by saying the is no custard shortage in the Boston Cream every bite gives you creamy succulent custard. In my quest for the perfect donut, I made the arduous journey down to Joliet. I spent about 75 minutes driving to & from, so I was thinking to myself on the way back that these better be worth it. I was there about 8 am on a Sunday morning and it was packed. Both workers and customers were crawling over each other. I guess that's a good sign. Unfortunately that meant it was hard to see all available flavors. I highly recommend browsing their website to shortlist the flavors you want. The angel cream eclair is really good, but I still give a slight edge to County Donuts' cream-filled donut. The buttermilk and sour cream are decent; good for dipping. The white coconut is good, but the cream is a bit fragile if that makes sense. I was pleasantly surprised by the taffy apple. It sounds like a strange donut flavor, but it just works.
