It's been almost 2 years since home plate opened and while their philly Tri tip (which you can now get a Tri tip dip with Au Jus is AMAZING) has stayed on point, they've added all sorts of other stuff I love. The owners and employees know I can take up to 15 minutes just standing there staring at the board to decide what I want to eat that day. After a two month hiatus, back to Home Plate for lunch with four, all happy with their food. 2 had burgers, great, good meat, good portions, great onion rings. One had sampler plate, saying the potato skins were the best she ever had (this from a veteran traveler who spent some of her youth in Idaho). What a nice surprise! I had not been here since it is pretty far from my normal stomping grounds but made my way for burger week and was totally happily surprised. I came here for dinner at night, and the waitress turned on the lights until I was about to leave. The restaurant was too dark, the chicken in the pasta was not fully cooked, I couldn't see clearly, I had trouble with my stomach for two days. We chose Home Plate based on all the wonderful Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. Located behind a 7-11 in a strip mall where if not for GPS we would of thought we were lost. When we first walked in we were welcomed with an amazing smell of freshly grilled burgers. The gal who was taking the orders was so warm and friendly. I wish I would of gotten her name. She handed us a menu which was not as overwhelming as they have a pretty extensive menu printed on the wall behind the grill and a specials menu as well. They offer burgers, fries, pizza and other types of delicious sounding sandwiches as well as milkshakes. They suggested the tri tip sandwich which was highly recommended by other yelpers. We all chose the savory brisket burger instead which the chef described as a blend of 3 types of beef. Served hot and freshly grilled with your choice of special sauce, tomato, grilled or fresh red onions, fresh iceberg lettuce on a warm toasty brioche bun. Cheese and bacon was also an option. I chose all of the above except the grilled onions and may i say it was one of the best burgers I have ever had. I also ordered the spicy fried green beans and wow those were delicious as well. Slightly spicy and crispy and served with a side of ranch. The serving is not large but was just the right amount considering I was having that amazing bacon cheeseburger. Lol! We also ordered milkshakes and we are glad we did. They had the usual vanilla, strawberry and chocolate but also had a white chocolate version which I've never seen anywhere else so we ordered one of those as well as a vanilla and strawberry. May i say they were all delicious but the white chocolate one was over the top yummy. I live quite aways away but any time I am in that neighborhood again I am planning on going back and maybe trying something else or certainly having that savory brisket burger again. Home Plate Grill gave us an excellent breakfast! The servings are great for the money you pay. The 805 omelette was a great choice. It is well made with the chorizo and vegetables and the avocado pico de gallo over top is excellent! Delicious! The service was also very good. The owner is very friendly and will check in on you to make sure everything is going good with your meal. He will also talk baseball with you. Home Plate Grill is an excellent neighborhood joint with affordable prices for a bite to eat. I'm not sure where to start. We got seated immediately so it obviously wasn't busy. I had to ask for our order to be taken after 20 Minutes of sitting there. We waited an hour for our food and it still wasn't done as we waited we were approached 1 time for a refill on my coffee and after that never again I sat with an empty cup for 30 minutes. At no point did anyone come up to us apologize for the wait or give us an update. When we finally got sick of waiting we walked up to the counter and told them what was going on with our food get this our food had not even been started yet. Also to note there was only 3 tables taken so it was not busy. I'll give them the benefit of doubt and say maybe their to go orders were busy, but that's no excuse prioritize the people sitting in your restaurant. This place is truly terrible, rude service, actually NO service and wet soggy pizza. For dine-in, they make you order at the counter and pay up front and tip before any meal. Gave standard 20%. My husband and I went there for the first time and LOVED this place. Will definitely go back to try something different although we loved our first meal. What a great local pizza place! I came here for the first time with a group of coworkers around noontime. Not really sure about what we wanted to order, the staff was very nice about telling us about some of their most popular items and some of their personal favorites. We decided on sharing two large pizzas: Tri Tip and Asian Chicken. Delish!! The Tri Tip pizza has very bold flavors, having a very good balance of sweet and savory. Not too much sauce, and not too little. The crust was crispy, which I really like. The Asian Chicken pizza was light but packed a great amount of flavor, all on a perfectly crispy crust. The combination of spices in it was amazing, it's like a modern spin on Pad Thai in pizza form. Again, very friendly staff. They made sure we had everything while we dined there. My top favorites are the Asian barbeque chicken pizza, Hawaiian grilled cheese, and habanero burger. They also have a breakfast menu served until 1 that is also excellent. They're main menu isn't even for breakfast but I wouldn't go anywhere else in Goleta to get it. For Labor Weekend we decided to drive to Santa Barbara and stay in a hotel for a couple of days where we decided to check out this place in our route to the hotel and have a Pizza since it looked yummy. We got half Meat Lover and half Veggie. The Pizza was AMAZING and I can say that was the best food I had on that trip. If I ever go back to that area I will definitely go to Home Plate Grill again.
