We visited HOME while on a short vacation to Big Canoe. his is hands down one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in a long time, and we eat out a lot. Excellent wine selection - nice bar area - great local specials. From the appetizers to the main course to the desert and coffee (served in a french press - awesome!!) what a wonderful meal. The night we sent they had fresh GA. shrimp. I have had shrimp & grits many, many places, but the shrimp & grits here were out of this world. Home is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited. The atmosphere is peaceful and clean, the decor is unique, beautiful and comfortable, and the food is phenomenal. Every dish is quite obviously made fresh and with great love and care. Service is perfect, and the staff is happy, friendly and helpful. After living in New York and abroad, I can sincerely say this is amongst the best places I have dined, and the overall experience was simply perfect. By far the best customer service I've had in a long time. My server's name was Kimberly and she was spectacular. Her description for all of the food was so good, everything she spoke about made my mouth water. I had the home burger with cheese and you could literally taste the brisket in the burger. It was sooo good. You could tell everything was made in house and it all had that perfect smoke taste. Even the lemonade was great. I couldn't have asked for a better night. Delicious food; a server who made sure we had everything we needed and were satisfied (Michael); and a hostess who helped us get to our destination at Big Canoe when our car wouldn't start in the pouring rain (Hannah). This was our first visit to this restaurant although I have been to their predecessors over the years. I was very impressed by the decor and ambiance and service but that's where the good part ended. The food was decent but the serving sizes on some of the meals were lacking. I asked to substitute one side for another (same price on the side items portion of the menu) and was told there would be an upcharge. WHAT?? WHY? The flatbread was completely lacking in any kind of flavor, tasted like cardboard. And the pricing was not indicative of the quality. We would not be inclined to go back read more

This is an excellent restaurant all the way around. They have an excellent wait staff who were very attentive, professional and friendly. The food is delicious and, although they have a rather small menu, they do have a number of specials that were quite interesting. The atmosphere is excellent and it is nestled in the woods. It is perhaps a bit expensive, although a wonderful addition to dining in north Georgia where there are not a lot of sophisticated choices. read more

This was our first visit to Home restaurant. Our lessons learned were: 1) The food is OUTSTANDING. Soup of the day was wild mushroom and it was incredibly flavorful, creamy, and rich. I had a small Caesar Salad (they even added anchovies at my request!) and my husband had an entree-size Field Green Salad with grilled chicken. Five stars in both cases. Dessert was absolutely to die for: pineapple upside-down cake drizzled with caramel sauce and cherry ice cream on the side! Phenomenal! 2) Service was excellent. From the hostess to the bartender (we ate at the bar), everyone was friendly, efficient, and accommodating. 3) Next time we go there (and we will DEFINITELY be back!), we'll make reservations. We did not mind having our meal at the bar at all, but if we'd wanted to sit at a table, we would have had to wait quite a while. The place was really busy (and that's a good thing!) so reservations are recommended. 4) The only reason I'm giving Home a 4-star rating is the discrepancy between the menu pricing and what is actually charged when the bill arrives. The red wine we ordered was listed on the menu as $8/glass but we were charged $10/glass. When my husband questioned it, the bartender said, "Oh, they haven't corrected that yet? I'll talk to the manager to see if we can fix that for you." We declined and paid the upcharge. Interestingly, the patron seated next to us at the bar said, "They need to get their menu prices updated; that same thing happened to us the last time we were here!" So bottom line is, reprinting the menu to reflect the correct price for the wine would move my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Seems like a relatively easy fix! read more

Well worth the drive from Canton! The food and service were wonderful. All four of us enjoyed our entree's. The Duck Confit Poutine was delicious! The wine list is great and very reasonable. Our server was fantastic (I think it was Deanna, blonde). You can tell the chefs and owners are familiar with finer dining. The food is a little upscale, but the atmosphere is understated. What a nice restaurant. We had a fantastic time and will definitely return. So happy our friends suggested this establishment. read more

Excellent..... little loud inside the restaurant... but if you want something different than the norm...this is the place... had mushroom risotto and it was Yum... Five if us had a great meal and a great time at Home Restaurant last night. We used it as a halfway meet-point to get family together. Over an hour's drive for both groups. We really didn't know what to expect. Service was perfect. Cheerful Kalynn was right there to answer questions and the food and drinks were all timed right. And then the food... The carrot curry soup was a special. It was creamy and delicious. It was wipe-the-bread-around-to-clean-the-bowl delicious. My wife also loved the salad. Everyone loved their entrees. My trout dish was two big fillets. And again, seasoned very nicely. Others in the group had the chicken sandwich, shrimp and grits and a couple of the Tuesday smoker specials (pork and kielbasa). All won raves. Even the bread pudding and brownie desserts were great. It's a bit of a drive but very worth it. Prices were very reasonable. Nice beer and wine selections, too. Nice ambiance and casual, rustic decor. Waitress was nice but our order was a little messed up. Good service but I felt the prices were a bit high as everything we ordered was a la cart. Steaks were well prepared. Their version of steak sauce was not good. No ranch or honey mustard for the kids chicken fingers. We visited Home this past evening on our date night as we had heard good reviews about the new restaurant. These were spot on as everything we had was really excellent. We had two appetizers, the first was a salted beet and goat cheese plate. Now, I do not eat beets has been my mantra for years, it was all I could do not to eat the entire plate - so fresh, crisp and flavorful! We also had a shrimp over aioli that was really tasty. For dinner, we had a special of an arugula and salmon salad that was priced at only $8! This was so good, smokey and flavorful. I had the brisket sandwich on homemade bun that was some of the best I have ever had and I am in Texas quite a bit. Two desserts, one eaten in restaurant with blueberries, vanilla ice cream and the wonderful fried donut like pastries. Melt in your mouth. We took a chocolate and marshmallow delight back home, which was consumed about 10 pm and was outstanding. Our service was perfect and the new design of the dining are and bar is so inviting.
