The waitress asked if we wanted coffee and instead I asked for orange juice and water with lemon while she was walking away while I was speaking. That was brought out pretty quickly. We ordered our food and waited 45 mins before we decided to walk out. The waitress didn't offer us another beverage, or spoke to us ever again after she took our order. I've been going to Johnston for a few years now. I've gone by this place many times, but never been inside...Until today. They serve standard breakfast fare, bacon and eggs, waffles, omelets, pancakes, egg and cheese sandwiches, etc, as well as a few types of sandwiches for lunch. They claim to have several special rotating flavors of home fries in addition to the standard plain ones. When I was there, the featured flavor was "parmesan garlic". I ordered scrambled eggs, regular home fries, raisin toast, extra crispy bacon, and a glass of orange juice. While the food came out rather fast, the bacon was just the OPPOSITE of extra crispy (undercooked, rubbery). I sent it back, and before I knew it, the waitress brought it back to the table cooked perfectly. Prices were reasonable, and staff were friendly. Oh, and for you Lottery players, you can buy all Rhode Island State Lottery tickets (including instant scratch games) right on premises so you don't have to make an extra stop. read more

I am a frequent patron of Homefries Breakfast place, located on Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Maryann is one of the nicest waitresses, but they are all truly wonderful! I love their breakfast, clean inside the restaurant, and they do not rush you, while you are eating, whether you are alone or with a group of friends. If there were a zero star option, this place deserves it. Went in for breakfast and the waitress came over, took ONE of our orders and turned around and walked away. After waiting over 20 minutes for the check we finally up and kindly asked for it, just for the waitress to smash it down on the table. If I were to eat here again this business would have to pay ME. Homefries is a solid, no frills breakfast diner/restaurant. The service is friendly and the food is alright, nothing special. We tried the Eggs Benedict with hash and a ham & cheese omelet, both served with homefries. The Benedict was flavorful but the omelet was flat and lacked enough ham & cheese. First time going here today for breakfast and really wasn't that impressed. The food wasn't anything to rave bout. I got eggs Benedict with homemade hash instead of the traditional Canadian bacon. Was more like a sloppy paste with no resemblance to corn beef hash at all. Seemed to have a pretty decent crowd so obviously the food appeals to some though. Homefries happened to be nearby after a friend and I met early in the day, left a car at Stop and Shop, went on an excursion and came back. On the way back, I said "are you up for brunch" and he said "ok". I yelped the closest breakfast joint, and Homefries happened to be it. Nothing memorable. A bit run down. Not fantastic service. Infact, no one even acknowledged our presence and we were getting ready to leave. Other diners seemed to be waiting for their food too, but a large table in the back seemed to be filled with friends of the owner or employees and they were having a grand time. Love this cozy breakfast spot! Been going here for years and the food is always good. Sometimes there is a wait but it's not for very long. The waitresses are always fun and personable. The omelette, French toast and, of course, home fries are consistently delicious. They have good portions and a good variety of dishes. My family are always satisfied with the food and the service. Breakfast this morning at 9am and the place was busy but no wait for a table. While bacon, eggs, pancakes are hard to review because they are pretty much basic items, I started with 3 stars because they were cooked as expected. Within a minute of being at my table, I had a cup off coffee and felt no pressure to order quickly. She came back in a reasonable time and took my order with a smile, a joke and a good mood. Food came out quick and hot and they use a multiple waitress system (they all deliver food when ready even if it isn't their table - outstanding system) and they walked around at a regular pace with pots of coffee (one star) . The food is good but not worth the horrible service. The wait is too long- they are unorganized and chaotic. You sit at table for several minutes before someone acknowledges you or gives a menu. I've tried the place twice and it's the same every time. I'm done going here. Too bad but the owners need to do something to improve service. Been there a couple of times. Its a small restaurant and the tables are too close to one another. After waiting a while for a waitress, she finally comes & drops the menu on the table. The service is terrible, no one came back to see how our food was until after we were almost done eating. I didn't have meat in my omelet which I requested and my boyfriend didn't have cheese in his steak and cheese omelet. The food was cold. The butter didn't even melt on our pancake. My experience proves why lottery should not be available in a small restaurant. This was actually my second visit here (I usually give a restaurant a second chance as everyone has an off day.) It turns out that this was just not a fluke with this place It seems the service consistently sucks (unless your a regular, as it seemed like they were getting catered to more than anyone else). I was alone so I sat at the counter (which seemed to double as the waitress station as everyone's dinner check was laying about). Then I had to wait several minutes to be acknowledged that I existed as they waitress was busy running 20+ tickets through the keno machine. When she finally got to me she poured my coffee and went back to playing lottery attendant. She came back to take my order and I didn't even have a menu so she gave me a menu I picked something and waited and waited while people stood right on top of my ass at the counter to either pay their bill or put a keno ticket in. I usually have a rule that if I'm not able to get my order in before I'm done with my first cup of coffee, I leave. Because it was so apparent that I wasn't going to be acknowledged any time soon I left 2/3rds the way through my coffee. read more

I'm giving this 3 stars, only because the food was very good, unique, and reasonably priced. The service was atrocious. We could not get one thing we asked for without many requests - to the extent that I felt uncomfortable asking any more. I couldn't even get a refill on my coffee! The restaurant was not overly full and there was no reason for the horrible service. It takes a lot to aggravate me and I did not enjoy this experience at all. Waited there for an hour after being seated with drinks. Wasnt acknowledged ONCE by our waitress who had walked by us several times serving people their food who were seated after us. She had looked over at our table more then once and didnt have the common courtesy to tell us what was going on or even check on our order. My girlfriend went up to the counter to ask where our food was and the waitress with hair in a slicked back bun who had taken our order, the one ignoring us ,(I wish I got her name because she was rude and completely unprofessional) proceeded to answer her by saying "oh that's weird huh? I'll put in a rush order ". We decided to leave. There was NO attempt on the restaurants behalf to retain our business or apologize for their carelessness and lack of service. I ended up here after asking many locals if there was a mom and pop bfast place around and no one mentioned this place. I was on foot and it was cold out and wanted something with substance and not reheated. I happen to stumble on this little gem. The food was great and the service friendly. As I always praise this cozy breakfast nook, I have to add to my review that the waitresses that work here should train other workers in the area, because they are pleasant, always have smiles on their faces, and get to know you personally and know exactly what you like to drink and how you want your eggs cooked. Ok so the first time I ate here it was just eh. I had high expectations for the HOMEFRIES because after all that is what the restaurant is named.. They were horrible, so undercooked and overly seasoned. But whatever thats not the purpose of this review, the purpose is that I gave them another shot and I wish I never wasted my money! I had ordered two western omelet sandwiches and home fries well done to go.. After waiting over 30 mins my order was finally ready, brought it home, opened it up and what did I find.... 2 of the sloppiest, uneatable egg sandwich, with yet again uncooked home fries. I had to throw away both of our sandwiches, we called the restaurant nicely, explaining how sloppy our sandwiches were and mid-sentence she hung up on us! After that me and my bf were so enraged, we kept calling and they wouldn't even answer the phone! Finally when one answered she said the service must be bad... Never coming here again, and I recommend the same to you. read more
