Really nice vibe inside - I love the see-through cookbook/bookcase space that creates both an open kitchen and some privacy for the chefs. Service was friendly & helpful, and the menu offers many delicious sounding options. Food is fast casual style (order at the counter, get a card - here all were west side street signs, not the usual numbered placards, food will be delivered to your table. I had the avocado shakshuka, my husband had the lox omelet (see the photo). Despite the large menu of fancy coffee options, we each had a basic iced. It was served in a glass, which was a nice touch. Self serve milk was at a station in the dining room area. Coffee was good, cold but I would have traded some coffee for a bit more ice to stay that way as I drank it slowly. Both of us were surprised when our meals were delivered: the plates were beaut! In particular his omelet was absolutely gorgeous! Now for the flavors: the omelet had a generous helping of perfect cooked eggs (not sitting in a pile of grease, as restaurant omelets frequently are). It was so fluffy that we both thought "that's way more than the advertised 3 eggs," and the lox was thickly layered whole slices nestled inside the fold. Most places chop the lox like vegetables, add it to the eggs, & make it like a veggie omelet - meh. This iteration was perfect; the lox tasted like smoked salty fish, losing none of that flavor to the omelet itself. The potatoes? Fabulous! Great spice mix, cooked until they were crispy. That was a tasty bit of marble rye toast too. My shakshuka was very good, but a bit less successful. The elements were all excellent; the avocado was actually guacamole since it was mashed & there were tomatoes and spices in the dish. The combination worked, except for the bread element. The dish as presented was really more of an avocado toast with shakshuka on top. It might have been more successful to add the avocado/guacamole as a unique base on the plate, with the tomato sauce and eggs on top with toast on the side (as is the way shakshuka is traditionally served) because halfway through the bread got really soggy & less appetizing. One thing I really loved here? They offer a free coffee with any food purchase for first responders, which is especially fitting since they're right next door to a police and fire complex. For the RI food fights challenge, they were serving a CRU Cookie Blazer--an iced dirty chai latte with hazelnut and vanilla syrup, vanilla cold foam, Oreos, and CRU mocha sauce. It's not normally on their menu, but they'll happily make it if you ask! This one was definitely more of a sweet treat than the bold coffee flavor I usually gravitate toward, but if you love dessert-inspired coffee drinks, this is right up your alley. We wanted a late breakfast/brunch option and found CRU PVD. It was a cute little spot with really affordable options! Everything was fantastic. I'm bummed we found it on the last day of our trip. Since we couldn't come back, we tried lots. A cortado, a Bloody Mary, lemon poppy seed blueberry pancakes, the Irish Benedict, andddd the lox. They knocked everything out of the park. Well I came here for the first time with Rhode Island food fights coffee. I was really impressed. I received a delicious chai latte with whipped cream and Oreo topping. It was so delicious. Service was great we were greeted right at the door with a smile, was explained the menu and how the restaurant is run and the flow of it (can order and sit or get full service). Food was excellent, me and my girlfriend got the French toast and the waffle and both were great! The vibes of CRU are immaculate. Retro, friendly, comforting, & suave. The quality of food to price of food ratio is inspiring - I love a heaping salad with seasonal fruits & vegetables for just $8. Most of the menu can be made gluten-free, which brings a tear to my eye. Don't sleep on the pan-fried turnip cake. Sounds strange, right? I crave it constantly. I came back to Cru for a late breakfast with Meg M. We are also doing RI Food Fights iced coffee and came here on the first day. To took our order and took care of us. We had the signature iced latte with had Oreos in it! And could also be topped with cold foam, I opted for no cold foam since it had dairy in it. My latte was made with oat milk and was great! For breakfast we had the bananas foster French toast and eggs, home fries, and toast. They didn't have the basic breakfast on the menu of just eggs, potatoes, and toast but it can all be rung in separate and was super affordable. The food was really great and the potatoes were cooked and salted perfectly! They also have WiFi, this is a great place to come for breakfast and get some stuff done! Carlos brought the food out to us and he was so sweet. In addition to their hot coffee bar area, they also have a water station! You can get soda water, coldish water, and iced cold water! I liked Bayberry Beer Hall (which was in the same location before) but CRU leveled up in terms of food, service, ambiance and decor. What was once a big open space is now sectioned off into cozy booths and allow for some privacy. The space is still modern, minimalist and open but it has a more cozy and elegant feeling. We went for brunch. The scallion pancake with mushrooms was full of umami flavors and was a generous portion. I had the eggs benedict with sautéed kale and tomatoes - I appreciate the different options for either meat or vegetables on the benedict. The bloody mary was excellent - big, perfectly spicy with horseradish and well balanced. The other cocktail we had was with bourbon and amaro (can't remember the name) but it was delicious and went down smoothly. Minus one star for a mimosa that was made with completely flat prosecco. I stopped by CRU today on a whim (it's been on my "to-try" list for a while), and I'm so glad I finally did! I started with two cocktails--the Golden Fang and the Matchatini. The Golden Fang was strong but perfectly balanced, while the Matchatini was lighter and paired nicely with my entrée. Our table shared the Calamari and Loaded Hash Brown Tots, both served in generous portions and seasoned beautifully without being greasy. For my main dish, I had the Green Cod Curry, which was absolutely delicious. The vermicelli noodles with the cod and curry reminded me of a creative twist on the Thai noodle soups I grew up with--comforting yet unique. I also sampled my friend's Chicken Pibil with blue corn tostadas, and it was equally flavorful. We finished with the Flourless Brownies, which were rich and decadent without being overly sweet. The restaurant itself is warm and inviting, with plenty of group seating, bar space, and a fantastic open-kitchen concept. This was my second time going to Cru since I stopped by the first week they opened! We got a bunch of different dishes to share. For drinks, I got a matchatini which was delicious (and one of the better matcha drinks I've had). For appetizers, we got the cheesy garlic bread, olive oil shrimp, and loaded baby tater tots. The cheesy garlic bread was delicious, though the sauce on the side didn't seem to go that well with the bread. The shrimp was also a refreshing appetizer and was similar to crudo. The loaded tater tots were probably my favorite appetizer - there was so much and they were nice and crispy. For entrees, we got the pork schnitzel, summer pasta, and the ribs. The schnitzel is probably my favorite item on the menu since it's a relatively large cut and also very crispy. The summer pasta was a nice addition to the pork. The ribs were probably our least favorite since they were a bit more on the rare side, but it was still good! We finished off with the blueberry cheesecake, which was the perfect way to end our meal. read more

This was my first time at CRU PVD Kitchen & Bar. I checked it out with a friend for brunch on a Sunday. I had made a reservation and were seated right away. CRU PVD Kitchen & Bar gives a warm and welcoming vibe and it smelled so good. Previously Bayberry Beer Garden was in this space, but I've never had an opportunity to visit it. My friend said CRU PVD Kitchen & Bar did a lot of renovations to make it their own space, but there is still some remnants like an exposed brick wall. Looking at the cocktail menu, my eyes were immediately drawn to the matcha-tini ($16.00). OMG WHAT??!! I'm not a big fan of espresso martini, so when I saw the matcha-tini, I had to absolutely get it. I asked the server if I could substitute oat milk with whole milk and that was no problem. The matcha-tini also had japanese vodka, genepy, honey, and matcha tea. It was so smooth and the perfect combination. For food, we had the Dean St. Breakfast Burrito ($11) and added house-made chicken sausage ($3). The burrito had scrambled eggs, baby hash-browns, cheddar cheese, and garlic-chili aioli all wrapped in a tortilla. It was stuffed with prime and fresh ingredients. I enjoyed every single bite of this burrito and it was very filling. Both the drink and food were delivered quickly and were perfect. Fafi was our server and was very friendly. What went well? Hmm.. let me see... everything! Food, double..no triple check. Ambiance-warm and inviting. Staff..best ever! As soon as I entered the restaurant for Sunday brunch, I was greeted warmly and made to feel at home by Tara. I was introduced to Juliet, my waitress, and, let me say, she's one of the best. While I waited for my guest to arrive, she let me take my time and peruse the menu. Eventually I settled on an item, my first choice. Juliet redirected me to my second choice, though, a similar item that turned out to be phenomenal. When I tasted this breakfast burrito, the first bite was an explosion of flavor. I had that DAMN! experience. And the texture- perfect. I ordered a drink called, Some Like It Hot. It was the perfect blend of sweet and hot, just the way I like it. When my friend arrived and settled in, they served up the same welcome and made her feel warm and toasty, inside and out, on a chilly day. Before we left, we met almost all of the staff, including the sous chef who was just getting his sea legs. He was kind and warm, and clearly a fabulous chef. Another waiter, Michael, was so attentive, always checking in to make sure our dishes were cleared, offering great cheer. This is a place where you feel like family, even though the dishes are gourmet. (My friend said the hash that she ordered was the best she'd ever had.) This is my new place to hang. So sad to say - I think this may have been the worst meal I have ever had in Providence. While the atmosphere of the place is nice and the staff is polite, the food, on multiple visits (because everyone is entitled to a bad day) just isn't up to par. It feels like the menu is trying hard to be "interesting" at the expense of mastering the basics. Lack of flavor, and overly greasy, I just can't in good conscience recommend a visit here. Let me start by saying that I don't consider myself a "foodie" and rarely get excited about going to a restaurant but my experience at CRU PVD YELP event was amazing. CRU pulled out all the stops. The served Crispy Calamari, Pan Fried Turnip Cake, Steak Frites (delicious potato wedges rather than fries), Whole Roasted Chicken Pibil - (Some of the most tasty and moist chicken I have ever eaten), Sorbet, and a Flourless Brownies. Everything was delicious and fresh tasking. I think the thing that really topped the experience off was the positive energy of the entire staff. Everyone seemed to actually enjoy doing their jobs and making the customers happy! The whole placed just seemed to buzzing with good vibes. I was in town with my family and the other reviews for CRU drew us straight in for brunch. We had such a fun experience and look fwd to returning in the future. Service: I can't express how kind & welcoming everyone at the front of house were. We were traveling with our (very hungry) toddler, who the staff gifted with one of their notebooks. It was a kind gesture, which are her day and calmed her down until her meal arrived. Food: I regretfully didn't take any pictures, but we ordered scrambled eggs, hash browns, chilaquiles, and the (seasonal special?) kimchi egg sandwich. The quality of everything was exceptional. The eggs felt fresh rather than from a carton. The chilaquiles were the right amount of crunchy and soft (the seasoning from the sauce was SO flavorful), and the added kimchi mayo was a fun take on their egg sandwich. I would have liked to see an actual kimchi garnish for an added kick, but this was exactly as it was described. And y'all... Do not sleep on these hash browns!!
