I highly highly highly recommend this home inspection company. They were very quick to respond when I reached out and was able to get me on the schedule and answered all my questions via Yelp messaging and phone calls. The inspector assigned to my inspection for a home I was looking to purchase was Chad. He arrived at the same time I did a couple of minutes before the scheduled time. I was very lucky and we were joined by second inspector Mike, who is a licensed and experienced inspector but was new to HomeKey and finishing up his training. Chad and Mike were very knowledgeable and picked up immediately on the small things I've noticed and of course found big things that people not in the field would not have thought of. A roof walk through was not possible due to the height and pitch of the roof but Chad was able to a good review via binoculars and a camera mounted on a long pole. Chad and Mike were extremely thorough and the final report by Chad was absolutely in depth and gave me a lot to think about regarding the purchase. Having seen a home inspection and the final report done by a different company during my last purchase and an inspection report from when I sold that home, I can definitely say that this is by far the best company you can go with. Small note - if you're happy with the service your inspector provides, be sure to leave them a tip. Update 5/22/19 I got another inspection done by HomeKey, this time by Ian, the owner, himself. He is definitely highly experienced, knowledgeable, and personable. His attention to detail was astounding and I was very pleased with the inspection and with the report that followed. My real estate agent listed a couple of options for home inspectors, and Ian's reviews immediately stood out to me as something special on Yelp. I decided to give him a try and see if his service was in line with the (unreal) caliber of reviews. I am a very detailed-oriented person with a background in engineering, and Ian did not disappoint. I scheduled online without making a call, got a confirmation beforehand (love it! so easy) and he was on time. He poured over every detail of the house, spending close to 4 hours on the home because it had foundation repairs that, while a normal inspection would not spend much time caring about, Ian spent extra effort seeing how they may have impacted the structure and other systems. Have you ever met those professionals that care only about doing things the right way--being utterly thorough and careful--and seem to not consider the extra time and cost it will take them to do it that way? Ian falls into that category. I honestly felt he would have spent 12 hours on the inspection if he though he needed it to cover everything. He took pictures of everything, and let me walk around asking questions to which he gave clear, straightforward answers and also suggested potential fixes both of a get-it-done for cheaply and a do-it-the-right-way option. implications--and also often suggested repairs or other considerations. If you are not asking questions about the issues he is turning up, then you are losing a lot of the value in the service he provides; being able to ask and understand potential fixes was alone worth the cost of the visit. After the visit he emailed me very late at night to apologize that he couldn't get the inspection document to me same day. Huh? I wasn't even expecting it same day given how long it took and how many things he pointed out! He sent it early the next morning.. and it was 105 pages long with 150 items and pictures clearly detailing every single issue with arrows pointing to the specifics in the report! Crazy. He must have an incredibly efficient workflow for that kind of turnaround. The report was invaluable in showing the sellers a variety of issues that could be repaired, and narrowing down the must-fix repairs to request in the contract. Believe me, you want a home inspector that shows you every potential issue. I think I am even more qualified than many other reviewers to comment on his work because I hired him again! Ian offers a flat-fee re-inspection service to check on repairs and other work. This, again, was well worth the money because he let me know how they screwed up some of the negotiated repairs (and more importantly, is the partial repair something I can live with, fix myself, or something I should bring up in negotiations). I hired him through the walk-through inspection a few days before closing. Overall, had I paid double his fee I would have still felt like I got a great deal. I rarely write reviews on service providers but felt it was the least I could do. If you are reading this, I hope you are lucky enough to be able to hire him. read more

Ian did an outstanding job with inspecting our prospective home. Ian was already at our new home (early/on time) and greeted us with a warm professional welcome. He came prepared with his gear and was well organized. During the inspection process he explained everything he was checking for as well as standards and what he was reporting. He seemed to be very familiar (knowledgeable) with all the parts of our house (even more so than the construction rep, who we walked through with afterwards for our PSD), to include the construction as well as the installed appliances. I was grateful that he was able to answer pretty much every question we had with just the right amount of detail (I'm somewhat inquisitive). Ian and his team are AMAZING!!! I have never seen anyone inspect a home so thoroughly. He even opened every single drawer and checked every single shelf in the house! His report is very detailed with pictures, explanations and descriptions straight from the building codes to show how something should be properly installed. Darren was very knowledgeable and details. He was very patient to explain what the code is and how it should be. He also points out many recommendation on his report. To my surprise, he took picture of many cosmetic stuff for me in the report since it's still a new construction. I was also happy to get the report the very same day. By the way, he uses a thermo image camera for the inspection and found a significant insulation deficiency in one of my room. We've always felt this room is colder/hotter when HVAC is not running and turns out one side of the ceiling was barely insulated. My prior inspector did not catch this, by his bare eyes of course. If your house is already dry-walled, I strongly suggest find inspector who uses thermo cam. Overall, I would recommend Darren from HomeKey. read more
