3 stars is kind of generous as the $28 Pastrami sandwich is quite lacking in the Pastrami section. For $25 bucks Katz will give u almost triple the meat and a much more "welcoming experience". We ordered 4 Pastrami sandwiches, 4 Mac and Cheese (small), 4 Drinks, and 1 order of pickles. This order totaled to about $180 bucks. When I asked for straws, I was told "they are no longer allowed in restaurants", when in fact the new "straw law" states that they should be available upon request. The small cup of pickles is $6 bucks. I really don't know how this place will survive, I honestly will be surprised if it does. Amazing brisket, the cole slaw tastes a little too mustardy for me. The beans were full of chunky pieces of meat, it was delicious. The lamb was good but definitely has a gamey taste so it's not for everyone. The line can be long on the weekends. If you go on a night during the weekdays, there is plenty of parking and no line. read more

Came to Hometown to give this place another shot and the quality and execution are simply not there. The wings are dry and combined with the sauce they are not tasty, same goes for the cauliflower. My friends has ribs, mac and cheese, cornbread, two tacos, and something else.... No surprises it was not that great. One mentioned that dinosaur bbq is better which is gross in it's own right. I came here for one reason and one reason only: the pastrami on rye. Exclusive to this location and recommended by several reputable sources, I had to check it out. Taking up a large portion of the ground level of Industry City's Building 5, Hometown's Sunset Park location boasts a surprisingly expansive dining space. One could imagine a long ordering line and child-heavy crowd souring the experience, but that was not the case yesterday afternoon. We were able to leisurely select our table and strolled right up to the counter to place our order. The sandwich is reason enough to make the trek. The heavily spiced and smoked pastrami is lovingly laid out in thick slabs along two slices of rye. A generous but not overwhelming layer of spicy brown mustard is the only topping, making the meat the star of the show. It's truly fantastic. I was most impressed with the silky texture, tremendously tender and fatty in a way that practically melts in your mouth. The flavor was also pleasingly spiced and salty with every bite, evenly seasoned throughout. Be mindful that it's a bit sodium heavy, though as somebody with a real salt-tooth that's totally fine with me. While $17 may seem like a bit much for a sandwich a la carte, it's rich and indulgent enough to satisfy without any sides. However, my wife being a pescatarian (and a good sport), we also opted for sides of potato salad and dill pickles. The pickles were perfectly acceptable, a fine side option but nothing life-changing. We were both slightly underwhelmed by the potato salad, though not for the flavor. The whipped texture made us feel like we were eating an admittedly tasty dip with a fork, which left us a little unsatisfied as a result. That being said, you're here for the meat and what meat I had was truly excellent. I will likely return here or Red Hook to see how the rest of it holds up soon. This Resturant has a nice youthful appearance. The food and sandwiches look appetizing. I tried a Pastrami sandwich, the price was $28, so I expected a good flavor filled sandwich. Went one Saturday order pastrami , pull pork and brisket sandwich .To my surprise the sandwich's were awful.The pastrami was mostly fat could not eat it .The pork and brisket was ok but hardly any meat in the sandwich paid top dollar.Never again not worth it. read more

Hometown BBQ is my favorite BBQ place in all of NYC. I keep coming back to Hometown because everywhere else disappoints me. I was really excited when I found out Hometown was opening a location Industry City! I finally had the chance to come and the size of this place was amazing! This location is huge and very spacious. I can't wait to come back and eat here when things calm down. I ordered some brisket and sausage for pickup. They do not make the meats here so the meats come from their original location. That is a bit of a turn off for me since the meats aren't fresh fresh, but I decided to check it out anyway and see for myself. The brisket was delicious! It was very tasty and tasted just as if I was dining in at the Red Hook location. The sausage was even better which was very surprising. I will need to come back for a dine in experience when things return back to normal. I hope this location does well and other restaurants open up here in the future. I'd love to see Industry City become something big and a destination for people to come enjoy and explore. One last thing thing that is preventing me from giving 5 stars is the price. I wish I could say I could be a regular here, but it will be a treat once in a while instead since I can't be spending $30+ per meal just for lunch. read more

Stopped in here while I was picking up some camera gear from a rental shop across the street. Got a pulled pork sandwich and some cornbread. While the sandwich was good, it was the cornbread that made me come back! I'm not certain if it was the right combination of moistness and crumbly-ness (whatever the right word is), or maybe it subconsciously reminded me of the ones my mother used to make when I was small, but it was just amazing! If you're in the mood for a ton of meats, come by at an awkward time (like Mondays at 4 pm) when the line may be shorter than usual, and with a few people, and order a bit of everything. The sides are decent but the real glory are the ribs, brisket etc. The star of the show is the pulled pork sandwich which might be the best pulled pork sandwich you've ever eaten in your life. I'm updating my rating due to the effort that HT BBQ went to resolve this experience. One of the owners personally called me to offer their apologies and offered a refund. I declined the refund and was appreciative of the apology. I've always known them to be worthy of 5 stars. I also sympathize with how hard it is to run a restaurant in NYC. Yelp reviews can be ruthless with unreasonable expectations of perfection. HT BBQ did what they reasonably could do to address this incident, and I respect that effort. When I heard hometown was coming to industry city I was super excited that it was closer to home. I was pretty disappointed to find out their menu was pretty limited compared to their original location in red hook. The place is big and not crowded at all for a Wednesday afternoon. I got the brisket taco since their meat selection was pretty limited. The taco was ok. The cheese sauce was a little over powering. Overall if I had to go to hometown bbq I'd go to their original location in red hook and deal with the crowds read more

I was excited to eat there with my boyfriend. The man making the sandwiches was great and so was the cashier. The sandwiches are a bit pricey and the meat is very greasy. Lamb is dripping in oil. The rye bread for my corned beef sandwich was grilled with oil. It was so greasy. The corned beef alone was perfectly cooked and seasoned. This is a sure way to make someone sick and gassy. BBQ is greasy but there's no need to have food soaked in fat. The mac and cheese was great-no greasy and flavorful. read more

I hace been waiting for this new location to open for some time and I really really wanted to like this place but i just couldnt truly enjoy the BBQ. The taste is different than thier Redhook Location. I had the ribs, brisket andac n cheese queso. The ribs lacked the flavor from that dry rub they use at the redhook location. Brisket also lacked that smoky flavor fhat they are famous for. The mac m cheese queso was dry despite the cheese sauce. I was actually upset because when i went to the Red Hook location, i was inlove with the taste. Maybe it was just me but this place didnt have that same umph that the original location has. If you are an idiot then you can go order here at hometown bbq, one of the worst bbq joints in NYC. They will rob you blind and leave you hungry quite literally. Anyway no matter the atrocious prices on the menu, the worst part is their bbq sucks. How do you botch brisket? How do you make Mac and cheese so to make people regret eating it. A very nice spacious spot. Came here for lunch with my brother and order the lamb bahn mi and the brisket sandwich, both are $15 each... which I find a little on the pricey side. The brisket sandwich was delicious. Everything about the sandwich was good. The soft onion roll, the crisp onions, juicy smoked brisket, sweet barbecue sauce and some acidity from the pickles cutting through it all. I found this sandwich very balance and typing this up makes my mouth water. Even though I found it pricey, I would definitely go and order it again. Same cannot be said about the lamb bahn mi. I finally got around to visiting this location after being a fan of their Red Hook location. A lot smaller, line moved quicker, and the same meat selection with a few twists. No wings or sticky ribs here, but they do offer Pastrami sandwiches which rival any NY deli anyday. Arrived around 2pm today, and there was a line, but nowhere near the long wait like at Red Hook. Two carvers taking orders which kept the line moving with a decent pace. I got my "go-to's" brisket, and pulled pork. Just what I needed for my meat fix. They do have two beers on tap, but no full bar like the original location. Sadly there were a few things that did turn me off to this location. Seems like there weren't any busses to keep trash off the table, or wipe down tables. When my party was able to grab seats, we wiped the table down ourselves. The water cooler was empty, so had to wait for it to be refilled-NYC tap water. The gentleman carving fixed my plate up like an artist-not only appetizing to the palate, but also the eyes. The cashier seemed to be bored-she was on her phone when we got up to the register to check out. The plastic cutlery was out-forks, but no knives available, and the sauce bottles on the counter for self service looked dirty, and most of them were empty. Thank goodness for the sauces available on each table. Overall we were happy with the quick pace and menu selection, just a few things that I guess I've come to know and love at the other location lacked here. Great product, and pleasant, professional staff, but excessively overpriced for a BBQ joint. For example, since they use a pay by the pound system ($14 per 1/2 lb), it cost us nearly $60 for about 3/4 of a rack of ribs. Note this roughly equates to 2 ribs for $14, which is nuts. That and 1/2 1b brisket, a sandwich and 2 sides cost $150 with tip. Great food, but seriously out of control on pricing. Should honestly be half that price, id even concede to 40% less. I've never written a negative review based on excessive pricing in my life. read more
