I went here because it was my Birthday on September 1st and I wanted to try something different. It was awful. The food was all dried up at the buffet. I paid for the meals for myself and my 8 year old daughter and left a 20 percent tip. I will never return. They simply do not care about the quality as evidenced by the food presentation. Ate here last Friday with a friend. I've driven by this place a lot but hadn't eaten here so I wanted to try it since I like a good buffet. I didn't realize there's a menu (it was already on the table and my friend who had eaten here before didn't say anything about it) so I just had the lunch buffet. The waiting area seemed like a miniaturized country store part of a Cracker Barrel. The waitress was great! She was friendly and very attentive like keeping drinks full. The buffet however was a disappointment. Hardly any meats on the buffet (fried chicken and bbq is all I remember), not a lot of side dishes and not a very large selection of toppings on the salad bar. I pretty much just got chicken, corn, and mashed potatoes all of which tasted good (not great but good) but I wish I had looked at the menu. The price for just the buffet and a soda was $10 and something with tax. Based on other reviews I'm not sure I'd return for either of the of the other buffets but I definitely wouldn't make a special trip 45 minutes across the mountain for this place. If you want a really good buffet drive 15 minuets to the Golden Corral in Waynesboro or take 81 North to Harrisonburg (or 81 South to 64 East) and go to Wood Grill. Both places are probably more expensive but have a lot more buffet to offer. This place has a breakfast buffet every day and a dinner buffet but I'm never around the area those parts of the day. read more

I think this restaurant is a hidden gem. The chef/cook makes it sparkle. I enjoyed perfectly cooked uniquely seasoned catfish. Added was a wonderfully flavored medley of fresh vegetables which were seasoned and steamed to perfection. Breakfast eggs were cooked exactly as ordered. Not many restaurants serve real fried ham these days but this one does. Very delightful in all. read more

Very disappointed in buffet. It was BBQ night. Ribs, fried chicken was very dry and chewy. Soups one was what I assume to be vegetable was so low and dried over on top. I have eaten there during the day and have never had such a bad experience. Our server Becky was awesome. But that was probably the highlight and best part of the entire experience. I believe that maybe the young man was new maybe, or just in experienced in the buffet. Very bad experience. Won't be back for a long time. read more

The staff was really nice and pleasent but the food here was terrible and the buffet price is really steep for the quality of the food. My family and I went on a Thursday night and got the buffet. The bbq ribs and chicken were awful, I didn't try the sloppy Joes because I wasn't sure how long it had been sitting out. Probably the best thing I had was the ice cream. My husband and I love to go for their breakfast buffet. They always have a good selection of foods, @ least 2-3 meat selections, 2 potato selections, 2 egg selections, usually 3 gravey selections, biscuits, frencf toast sticks, grits, bread pudding, variety of sauces and additives for foods, fresh fruit cottage cheese , yogurts, and I'm sure that I have forgotten a lot. We have never had bad service. The waitress tells you at the beginning if you want pancakes or waffles with the buffet to let her know and she will get them for you. I've been in the restaurant and catering business for many years in the Staunton, Va area and always want to give a new restaurant a chance. However, My husband and I went to the breakfast buffet over the weekend and found there to be too much processed food. The biscuits were not from scratch, a nasty canned cheese sauce on the line was also in their hash brown casserole and cheesy grits. Potatoes were a heat-and-serve frozen item also. The staff was very friendly and service the was great. The restaurant itself was very nicely decorated but that did not make up for the poor quality of food. read more

We love this place! The people are very friendly, and the service is fantastic. I come here with my two small kids at least once a week, and also meet with a large group once a month. Over the past four years, we have tried everything on the buffet, but only a few things off the menu. The buffet varies daily, but is on a weekly schedule. Monday and Tuesdays are steak and shrimp nights. The steaks are cooked to order, but are unlimited on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The buffet is always hot and very presentable. On Fridays and Saturdays, they have a seafood buffet, and we try to get in for that at least once a month. This was previously part of several Shoneys franchises owned by an absentee owner. When it closed, the managers were able to lease the building and open their own restaurant. Much of the staff returned. Free from the restrictions imposed by Shoneys, they have made improvements to both the building and the menu. Although it still resembles a Shoneys in many ways, the food is generally better and has a more variety. All in all, it's a great family restaurant to take the kids. With two medium-sized meeting rooms, it's also a great place for parties of up to 30 people. read more

Last Sunday (March 9, 2014) we had a 60th anniversary party for a family member in the back room of Hometown G&B. It was very convenient for the guests to eat there rather than bring food from home if we had chosen another venue. All the guests seemed pleased with the buffet which included many breakfast items, salad bar, and a general food bar. The staff were extremely hospitable to our 50 guests, and we were not charged any fee to use the back room. I would recommend Hometown G&B for any meeting or family gatherings where under 50 guests are expected. read more

Need to add better options to the food bar. Been three times for lunch and always the same. Fried Chicken, fish or taco. Salad bar is good. Hit food bar ooks like something I could go to the grocery store and make myself. Tastes the same as if I made it and I am a bad cook. It could be better and I know these folks can make it better. I will try again. They are very nice and have great service. It is also much cleaner than when it was Shoneys. Just need to work on food and options. read more

I have driven past this place a handful of time but it never caught my attention enough to stop. Last night I decided to stop in for their steak and seafood night. The steak was cooked perfectly. It was full of flavor and tender. The buffet is small but offered all the good items. On one side there was the traditional southern food. Fries chicken, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a salad bar. On the other side there was seafood items. Steamed peel shrimp, fried oysters and fish. Along with a small dessert section. The boyfriend stuck with the chicken and I ate the seafood. Neither of us had any complaint.. and trust me, he is a tough critic! The service was great as well. Wait staff that wasnt our dedicated waitress spoke while leaving for the night. When paying our ticket the gentlemen who I assume was the owner, asked " did you get enough to eat from the bar" which was different from the generic greeting that you normally get. This was the worst food ever! The buffet was horrible. My husband and 3 kids went there for lunch and was extremely disappointed. We spent $41.85 for left over nasty food. I will never stop here again, I should have thrown my $42.00 in the dumpster because that is what it is trash! I know need to figure out what to cook for my kids since they did not hardly eat and I hope that twe do not get food poison. The health department should investigate this place! read more

The service was friendly and quick. Although we were there late in the day everything on the buffet was well stocked and fresh. Portions were huge! The homemade apple pie was cinnamon delicious. They allowed our one year old to eat buffet at no charge. He loved the buttery green beans and mashed potatoes. Steaks that came with the buffet were juicy. read more
