Good experience. We needed a pizza to go at the last minute, and these friendly folks obliged us very quickly. They got our order and had it ready on time. And importantly, it was a pretty tasty pizza with crunchy crust and good, fresh pepperoni atop the hot cheese. Not the greatest pizza we've ever had, maybe, but good, and we relished the experience of dealing with such nice folks. The restaurant is clean and with good room for diners, and they do one heck of a takeout business. Count us as satisfied customers. read more

Unfortunately this place has definitely gone down hill and with Milestone and the new epicure there is no need to go to hometown. The last Pizza we got here was dry like it was reheated and just didn't taste fresh. I don't want to speculate but it wasnt very good. My company ordered from Hometown Pizza for an employee appreciation event. Everything was delivered to us hot in increments. They accommodated us by delivering four times throughout the day. We ordered a few different variety of pizzas and a giant tray of wings. The wings were very tender and had just enough spice to not be too spicy. I sampled all of the pizzas. All were hot and fresh. 1.17.21 Well, this is going to be one of my less than stellar reviews. The day I'm writing this is November 5th 2020 and I've been waiting to leave this review. I was here over the weekend. I was here on Halloween October 31st 2020 and we were very disappointed. Been back a few times since but I'm finally going to post this today January 17th 2021 Where to start? First off, the pizza is meh :( ......... The pizza is basic, plain & bland. There was plenty of cheese on it. There was a bountiful amount but that's about it. Oh, the pizza was also wet enough with enough of sauce which I enjoy on it but that is where it ended. The sauce for all of us was meh... bare bones plain, bland & basic. The dough/crust followed suit along with the same theme of bland & basic. We were hoping it would get better with the following slice but we were still disappointed. We all spoke about how surprised we were at the very good reviews. The pizzas were missing that something that you all know whether or not you'll return for the pizza or you won't. It may be ok for some of those in a pinch or for those who need to fill a quick void. I almost forgot to mention which is even more important. The cooks in the kitchen were not wearing their masks. It's a pretty open kitchen so you're able to see. The owner or manager at the counter didn't have a mask on either until I walked up to the counter. And there were other customers inside eating. I could be incorrect about the owner/manager but he seemed like someone with authority. Didn't seem to be the regular hourly worker. Poor cdc guidelines barely being adhered to. You should be ashamed that you're not fully complying. You are gambling with peoples lives. In all fairness I did come back and try them out a few more times because everyone deserves a second chance. We all falter or stumble from time to time but unfortunately this pizza still comes up towards the lower end of the list. Sorry but true. Just ok, ehh meh :( read more

Pizzas are great, always consistent Hot and cold sandwiches are great. Ok fries & mediocre mozzarella sticks. Pasta dishes are hit or miss, their gnocchi was over cooked but had a decent flavor. Dinner salads are average, I wasn't impressed with other salads I've ordered. read more

Second time here so time to review. We got spinach & garlic and an eggplant pizzas. They layered the eggplant on top of the cheese and sauce, a bit odd, but a hearty & delicious bite. I'll definitely not hesitate to order from here again. I've posted some updated menus, as well. read more

Place is nice and cozy with ample room for large or small groups. Staff is accommodating & friendly And omg the pizza slices are not your average size & so many options to choose from. The pepperoni slice and the Sicilian bacon had the perfect amount of crisp and both were so friggin' delicious. The pepperoni was thin crust with just the right amount of cheese and pepperoni slices and massive in size. The Sicilian bacon slice was thick but not too heavy which is key. Nice crumbled crispy bacon on top and olive oil from the dough lightly coats your lips. Perfection. I devoured them both. Mind you I have many food allergies and intolerances and I can't eat even tomatoes without a reaction along with processed cheese, meats or dough with gluten (and many many other foods) because it causes me flareups & triggers my Lupus. I haven't had a real pizza let alone tomatoes, processed cheese or pizza dough in so long and the craving was too much. I made sure to at least take a pill that helps reduce flareups when I eat but this of course didn't help with pizza at all and I had the normal unfortunate reaction. However, the pizza was worth it, this one time!! I'm so happy I chose good ol' Hometown to finally get rid of the many years long craving I've had. Geeze, we live in Southbury and didn't know this place was there for over a year. What a find. We love it. Vinnie and his crew are amazing and always go the extra mile (literally, since they deliver). It's a tiny place so takeout is what they're best known for but they do have a few tables inside. My first taste of Hometown was the pizza (which was great). I also ordered dinner takeout and loved their gnocchi bolognese. But we really got excited when we tried their wings. Mango Habanero has to be the crowd favorite there (and may well be the best Mango/Hab we've had yet). They also have "Vinnie's Special" which you just have to order and see for yourself. Second night in a row we were up in Thomaston. We were at Crabby Al's last night, but I had a desire for a meatball grinder tonight, so we gave Hometown Pizza a try. Hadn't been there in a few years (and then only to stop for a quick slice of pizza), so wasn't sure what to expect. Ordered the meatball-sausage grinder -- to put it mildly, it was pretty nasty (I'm now feeling some stomach discomfort about an hour & a half after eating it). My gf ordered a small Sorrentina pizza -- chicken, eggplant and ham. Now that was fairly good (I also had one slice). But honestly, can't say I'd stop back in to Hometown Pizza anytime soon, that "grinder" really turned me off. read more

Do not eat here. None of the cooks, nor the manager/owner wear masks. They are not only breaking the law, but they are breathing on and touching your food without knowing if they may be carrying Covid-19. We all know at this point that a person may be a carrier without symptoms and can pass it on to someone else who then may get severely ill, or even worse, die. Completely irresponsible of them and a disgrace. It doesn't make you seem like a tough guy to not wear a mask. It makes you look willfully ignorant. They should be fined and shut down. Their food is pretty epic most of the time. however, If you place an order in the beginning of the week with the owner it is just guaranteed to be messed up. Ordered a large pizza with extra cheese and a large antipasto for pick up. Pizza with extra cheese was 13.95 and the antipasto was 7.95. These were the prices from the web site. So with tax it should have been 23.29 But when I paid for the order they said it was 28.07 a difference of 4.78 not sure what the extra money was for. To me this was a bit pricey. Ordered take out from here on a Friday night for 5 people. Everything in our order had something wrong or disappointing. I ordered a buffalo chicken pizza and got a cheese pizza with chicken on top. Another order was a veggie grinder with provolone cheese and there was american cheese melted ON TOP of the bread making the bread soggy and disgusting. Another order was a cold italian combo grinder and it was made hot. We also ordered a large fry and they tasted like they had been sitting for hours and were just reheated. Ordered quite a bit and a huge variety tonight- my 5 year old who has become picky all of a sudden ate everything on his plate, so that should say enough!!! The franchise needed garlic, and maybe a little salt but was definitely good- the grinders were HUGE and very good. I've had pizza from here before and it was really surprisingly good. I dunno, this place always hit the spot for me. I would visit at least twice a week last summer, as I was interning up in Litchfield. It was on the way, and the pizza was nice and tasty. Crispy, yet not too thin bread on the bottom, gooey, flavorful cheese and sauce on top. I would run the risk of driving while eating it out of the box on the way back down Route 8. I'm sure it's not the best - but that doesn't mean it's terrible. It's actually pretty good. If they still stock Vanilla Coke, grab one of those with a few slices. read more

Ok, so i brought my family here a month ago. It was a Sunday and they had the local Church crowd. We ordered just some Pizza and Grinders. The Salad came quickly and we ate it in a couple of minutes. We then waited for a solid 45 minutes before the food came. I was very dissatisfied. If i wasn't with my Daughter i would've just walked out. My Wife was talking me into staying and i barely held on. Food came and was average, but i was too frustrated to care. I won't be back............... ..ever. Not sure what was wrong that day, this place isn't the same. Beware when buying slices. Let me preface by admitting I am a huge pizza snob, but for the price point, I will say Hometown is decent for a quick lunch. I've eaten at all of them. I went into Thomaston's location recently, minutes after the 11AM opening. I was shocked at the sheer quantity of pizzas already in the display case, on the back table etc. Many of the pies consisted of several different types of slices thrown together on the sheet, obviously from different whole pizzas. My immediate thought was there is NO WAY this product is fresh from the oven this morning - so soon after opening no less. Nonetheless, I bought 3 slices, assuming they were refrigerated over night. NOT SO SURE!! All the cheese had that "tangy" aftertaste where it's juuuust starting to go bad, but still edible. Hey - I know cheese. The pizzas on display had that "dull, tired" look as well. So either the refrigeration needs recalibrating in this establishement, or {gulp}, the leftover product is left out over night. Let's just say I have years of experience with "leftovers" at home after drunken weekend binges, and I can say with complete confidence that your cheese is the first indicator of biology slowly taking over. ;) I havent had this experience at the other four locations, so I'm guessing its just the protocol in Thomaston where serving "expired" product in the interests of profitability supercedes quality control. Although the portions are good sized, we were very disappointed in the meals we ordered the other night. The eggplant rollatini was tough and needed a steak knife to cut though, the pasta in cream sauce I had was very under seasoned and the sub that my father had was so dry with barely any sauce. We will be sticking to ordering only pizza in the future on the rare occasion that we do order from here. read more

The pizza at Home Town Pizza 3 is pretty gross, and that is a shame because 1) the restaurant has the word pizza in the title and 2) it is claiming to be a good "home town" representation. I do not want that horrible, tasteless pizza to be the representation of MY home town or anyone elses. Because it is local, I have been dragged there more times than I care to admit, and I have to say I have not enjoyed almost every item on the menu- grinders are under-filled with mediocre toppings, salads are wilted with cheap supermarket dressings, the ONLY thing that tastes good at Home Town Pizza 3 is their calzones. For some reason I cannot fathom, while the rest of their menu is mediocre at best, they manage to make very good, cheesy, steamy and delicious calzones with a flavorful marinara dipping sauce. In fact, if they changed their name to "Home Town Calzone" I would consider giving them another star! Honestly though, skip this place if you live in Thomaston and eat at the new Spanish/Mexican place near Black Rock School. At least their food is authentic! read more
