We chose Homewerks to remodel 2 bathrooms and our kitchen and we are so glad that we did. It turned into a great decision and we recommend using them. Initially, we had some reservations with Homewerks (due to some online reviews and a bad experience my parents had with their sister company, WindowWerks). Through the efforts of our designer and project manager, we gained confidence in Homewerks and we are proud of the results of the project. We would use Homewerks again in the future. Designer - Our designer was Kathy, and we clicked with her from the moment we met her. She is friendly and knowledgeable about what goes together (i.e. colors / tiling). After signing the contract, we started deciding on colors / vanities / tiles right away. Kathy had several examples in the showroom - and also met us at different showrooms/stores in both Orland and in Chicago. She was able to quickly ascertain the kind of bathroom design we wanted and worked toward achieving that with her selections. Kathy also handled problems that arose that we did not even know about until after the fact. For example, the hall bath's backsplash became discontinued - which would have been a huge disaster as we had designed the bathroom around that backsplash. Kathy called several vendors and got a shipment of the last box of backsplash. We also had issues with the master bath quartz. Kathy handled all of these issues on her own and never seemed stressed and always presented different options to us. When life handed her lemons, she made lemonade for us. Which is exactly what you want in a remodeling company. A condo remodel is stressful enough and having a company eliminate some of the stress for us was much appreciated. Contractor - Our contractor from Homewerks was Greg, and he was really good. I would use him (and his team) again in a heartbeat. During the demolition and remodel part, Greg was in constant contact with me. If I would text him a question, he would answer within minutes. A day would not go by that I didn't hear from Greg. During this construction time, plans sometimes go awry and quick decision making is needed on the home owners part. It is a little nerve wracking for someone like me who likes everything planned way in advance, but Greg and his team made this process much easier. They would give me their opinions and while sometimes they needed answers right on the spot, sometimes they would give me a night to think about it. Greg and his team worked extremely efficient, always abided by our condo rules, and cleaned up the condo when they left each day. I had no concerns about them being in our condo w/o us there and I trusted them implicitly. While the time frame for our job was going to be about 8-10 weeks (according to the contract we initially signed), they finished everything in about 6-8 weeks - much to our pleasure. While the positives outweighed the negatives, I would be remiss if I didn't mention some of the issues we did have with Homewerks. As I look back, none were monumental, but they felt large at the time. We thought that the construction would start soon after the custom vanities were in. However, our project manager was on other projects and wasn't available. It was several weeks before the demolition started - which when you're trying to plan things, was a little frustrating for us. While I really enjoyed working with Kathy, there were times where she was a little absent minded and not as communicative as I would have liked. I used email for a lot for communication with Kathy so as to minimize personal calls from my work. However, I found that days could pass before I would hear back in email from Kathy. Having done a remodel before, the details and communication are very important once demolition starts, and me being organized with exact measurements/ layouts beforehand is key. One other issue that did arise related to the master bathroom backsplash. Kathy said she would order several samples, and we would then look at them at our next meeting. However, several meetings went by (as well as weeks) and those sample backsplashes never arose. Due to time constraints, I ended up ordering sample backsplashes online and having them over-nighted to me (at an extra cost). Eventually, I chose one of those samples. But I just wish Kathy had been more forthcoming with me in that she had not ordered the other sample backsplashes. Homewerks was not the cheapest remodeler that we interviewed - nor were they the most expensive. What we really liked about HomeWerks was that they were a one-stop shop. They would help us on the design as well as do all the demolition and the remodel. Can I guarantee that you won't have problems if you choose them? No. B/c there is no perfect remodel of a house. There is always bound to be some problems that arise. It's a matter of choosing the company that you work well with, and for us, Homewerks, Kathy and Greg fit that bill. read more

This company just opened a Naperville storefront and sent out a mailing. We checked yelp before calling them for an estimate and saw that people said they are not reliable. I figured there was little risk in getting an estimate, so we called anyway. They were so busy we needed to schedule an appointment with them a few weeks out. Both when we made the appointment and when they called to confirm, they made us agree that both spouses would attend and we would set aside 90 minutes for their visit. Today was finally the day of the appointment and yesterday they called to confirm. During that call, they suggested traffic may make the designer a few minutes late but we should still set aside the 90 minutes. So my husband and I both took off work to be at the house from 1-2:30pm. At 1 when I got home, I checked my phone and found that HomeWerks called at noon to say the designer was busy with another client in their showroom in Elk Grove Village and would not be to our house until 2pm - AN HOUR LATER! This blew my mind...I called to point out that we'd had an appointment for weeks and expected they would honor it as we had. They made a bunch of excuses, but none of it matters because we were unable to be home for an additional hour. We canceled the appointment. So, in the end, there is a risk to trying this company: they've wasted a few weeks of our time. I've never had a company so uninterested in taking my money. read more

Unreliable and untrustworthy! I met with their rep on a Sunday and made an in-home estimate appointment for the next upcoming Thursday. I left work early on Thursday so that I would be home to greet them for a kitchen renovation estimate. They didn't show! They didn't call! After waiting 45 minutes, I called them. They proceeded to lie to me by telling me that they called a few times the day before and left a voicemail message on my landline attempting to confirm the appointment. There was no voicemail message! Why do they have to confirm an appointment when you talked to me (in-person) just 4 days prior?! Bad business practices for sure! I wouldn't use them if they paid for the entire reno project! Stay away from these liars! read more

We selected HomeWerks from a local business flyer to complete our first major home remodeling job, our kitchen. We knew from our first meeting with MJ that we had chosen wisely. MJ handled the entire project from design to finish. Lisa, the designer, was able to incorporate all of the design elements we wanted, and accommodated our minor changes without adding to the timeframe. In fact, the wait time for the custom pieces was shorter than expected. This project went off without one, single hitch! The team communicated with us from the time we signed the contract until the job was completed. This was important to us because we suffered two deaths in our immediate family within 3 weeks, and we were out of town for significant parts of the job. MJ even offered to pack up our kitchen to get the job started on time! Jeff, the Project Manager, Greg and their team were highly professional and did a stellar job! The cost was reasonable, and there were no surprise add-ins. In all, we paid what we expected to pay. We absolutely LOVE our new kitchen, and will gladly work with and recommend this company and team for future remodeling jobs. read more

Very overpriced estimate... 60k to update my kitchen. I told the saleswoman I didn't want to spend over 25 k. I nearly spit my coffee out.

The service was absolutely awful!!! The doors still do not stay locked. The original installers stripped the screws on the lock so it was loose. The doors do not stay closed even when locked and closed. Worst service I have ever received!!!!! Thank God I charged them so I can dispute the charges. Very unhappy!!!!! I had to pit one star in order to leave a comment otherwise I would put no stars!!! I highly recommend seeking someone else to purchase your doors from!!! read more

Worst experience of my life! Ordered all new windows & doors beginning of May with the guarantee that it would all be completed by July 12th. It is Sep 3rd & it is still not complete. As a result all of our other home improvements have been put on hold. Nickel & dime you to death so what you think is the price doesn't end up as the price. Sales man nowhere to be found after we gave the first downpayment check. Would never recommend this company to even my worst enemy! read more

We had Homewerks replace a small bathroom in the far corner of the house, ripping everything out and replacing a tiny shower with a linen closet. Due to their other commitments, it was scheduled a couple months out. When the time came, the same guy showed up every day, on time, and worked until the job was completed. No skipped days without explanation, etc. as a result, it finished a couple days earlier than we expected, and it looks great. During construction, the mess was minimal, and everything was cleaned, and trash removed when the job was over. Well done! read more

This was the strangest experience. This company came to me as a lead from the Home and Garden Improvement Show in Arlington Heights. They called me to set up an in-house consultation. I informed them exactly what I was looking to do. Custom kitchen island, possible drywall work, new sink and kitchen counters and after that, two complete bathroom remodels. I just moved into an older but slightly renovated home. They confirmed that they do smaller kitchen projects and bathroom remodels before I set up appointment so not to waste time as I had 10 other companies calling me from the improvement show. A lady shows up for the appointment and was completely negative from the second she walked into my home. And she was somewhat insulting as to how my kitchen was laid out and offered no ideas. She takes pictures and said she'll get back to me. Two days later I get an email that my project is too small in scope for their company. What kind of company turns away at least $20-30K in business for remodeling projects?? Next!! read more

Made an appointment with this company two weeks ago for today. I gave them my home phone number. After waiting for this company to show up, I called. The lady informed me that YESTERDAY they called to confirm the appointment and I didn't respond so they couldn't send a person out to give me an estimate. Am I wrong, but when you make an appointment with someone, you are expected to be there??? I rushed home from work to be here for the appointment that I scheduled and there is no one coming today. Maybe the courtesy call should have been made over the weekend. Not the day before at 2 PM and expect a response. Not every person works a 9-5 job. I was asked if I'd like to reschedule. No thank you, I will find a company that will arrive when the appointment was set for. read more

Was promised the kitchen of our dreams! Well that didn't happen. First, they use subcontractors and were told we got the best. Drywall/painter did a lousy job, had to come back and redo. Electrical had to come back to redo. Tile guy gets a F- for using a color in grout that didn't match anything in kitchen. Had to totally redo. Installed wrong sink, had to remove granite counter to have it recut for proper sink. Soft close drawers and cabinets needed adjusting. Suppose to get best project manager and he had no clue how to adjust those. Wanted to reorder new drawers and doors until they hired a new guy to clean up other projects and ours. read more

We have not yet had work done but are in the shopping process. We've had a beautiful drawing done and had hoped to move on a kitchen project ASAP. Unfortunately a problem with our existing flooring has put a kink in our plans. Having to reconsider our plans now as we have to replace flooring too. Through it all they have been fantastic. I will NEVER EVER again work with this contractor. I have been fighting with them for over a month now trying to just get the windows ordered. We haven't even gotten into the install yet and I feel like I have wasted all sorts of time. The follow-up and communication is horrible. If I am going to spend thousand of dollars on something, someone should be communicating with me and I shouldn't have to hunt someone down in order to speak with them. The team at Homewerks did an exceptional job with the design and remodel of our kitchen. From start to finish this experience exceeded our expectations. There were 2 elements of the process that were truly impressive: DESIGN AND CUSTOMER SERVICE: Kathy was a great listener and because of that she truly understood what was important to us in the new kitchen and how we wanted it to function. Kathy's ability to take our thoughts and make them come alive in the renderings and ultimately in the finished product was outstanding. Throughout the process Kathy's open communication, recommendations and guidance enhanced the end product. PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Dana was an exceptional project manager. His attention to detail and his transparency regarding timing and process were appreciated. This company does not answer e-mails or phone calls. They are only interested in high projects and look down their nose at south side of Chicago. Cannot get designers to call back or show you designs easily, have to set up appt and are told that evenings an Saturdays book up quickly, don't bother calling them unless you have over $20,000 to spend, they are not interested in anything smaller. read more

We went to a home expo and this company was referred to us. They called us a couple of hours before our scheduled appointment and had the nerve to tell us that since we didn't return their call and they did not have a designer available, they wanted to reschedule. I told them "no." Number 1 - we already spoke to someone and scheduled the date and time. Number 2 - we didn't get any messages so how could I have returned their call. Number 3 - the person I spoke to said that she would call back and just hung up on me. Since then I haven't heard back from them. We would have been paying them to fix up our house. They should have been more courteous. It makes me wonder what kind of service and quality we would have gotten from them. read more

From the planning process through the remodel, the overall project planning was superior. The communication was open and transparent and I have a absolutely beautiful home. Don't bother making an appointment with these guys. They won't show up. Confirmed an appointment time and when I called to ask where the guy was when my appointment time arrived, I was told they cancelled it! They say since the appointment was made so far out (apparently a couple of weeks is a long time for these guys) they claimed to have called (no one called.... And even if they did, why would you not leave a message?) so they decided to cancel my appointment. Terrible way to do business and a great indicator to not do business with these people. Lots of better organized quality contractors to do business with so save yourself the frustration and call someone else instead. read more

The communication and quality of the work performed were superb. They went above and beyond to ensure our expectations were met. The bathroom turned out GREAT! I picked Homeworks from an ad in our local paper and it was a great decision. I found the Sales person Mary Jo knowledge, experienced, and very professional. They promised I could get my bathroom remodeled in less than 1 month from ordering the supplies and completion of the bathroom and they did what they promised. The project manager Ron Linares is by far one of the best in his field. He is a perfectionist and goes above and beyond to give his customers all that they expect and more. He truly cares about doing an excellent job and helped guide us thru the process bringing all his expertise to the table. After that was completed we decided to hire Homewerks again to do the Master Bathroom insisting that Mary Jo and Ron Linares will be working with us on that bathroom. It has also been completed and again we have been extremely happy. They stand behind their work and I would highly recommend Mary Jo and Ron Linares. read more
