After many ads to get an energy assessment I finally called and they came out in April for my free Home Energy Evaluation. I was very concerned about all the holes they made to my AC and Heating/Humidifier system. They did patch them up after. I thought the goal here was to save me money on my utility bills (wrong) my utility bills have doubled since this evaluation. My AC started running crazy and I had water all over my basement I then knew something was wrong and made a complaint. My Heating system than starts working crazy and my humidifier that I need for health issues is now not working at all, so Im now in distress over all this. After I complained they sent someone out which I thought was to fix what they broke and nope they presented me with a $24 thousand quote to replace my good working furnace and AC ducts.... I now have tried calling them so many times and I keep getting put on hold than they hang up! What now?? I have many health issues and cant work, live alone and im stressing out here, freezing no humidifier and don't have the money to pay for the damage these people have caused me! I feel like this is all a scam for people to spend money that they dont need to seeing they told me my systems were all working in good condition and now what? read more

Just had a UHE furnace checkup/tuneup cheapo special using them and I must say the tech (prompt) was sharp and savvy and did some things the installer-plumber missed or never mentioned. I suppose a cynic could say the work was unneeded, but I think not. The tech gave me test results and did some things for the first time (~9yo installation). I may use them for spring whole-house A/C prep as well, and report then, although these recent neg reviews give me a little pause. They also, years before, did one of those MassSave audits and the analysis and findings were thorough and useful and the work equally so. read more

We used HomeWorks Energy to install three mini splits in our condo. They were great from start to finish. They quoted us a fair price, gave us good advice about which units to get, and were clear about the whole process. Special shout out to Tony, Nate, Seamus and the whole team for being so gracious on the day of the installation and making it as easy as possible to navigate working from home in a small space with a dog while they were putting up the units! Extra points for wearing masks the whole time, making us feel safe and comfortable during COVID-19. read more

Worst company ever to deal with. In decades of owning a home, I've never had the problems I had with this company. They had to come 4 times to complete the work, the first crew didn't do 1/2 the job and created such a mess, the apartment upstairs had to be professionally cleaned. There was a lot of debris in the basement. I had to keep calling them to get things done and often no one got back to me. Communicate was awful. Ultimately the work was good but the cost enormous. They are not the only Mass Save company. Please use another. read more

We live in a log cabin, so we were looking for an air cooling system. I don't remember how we found Homeworks (I do believe it was an insert with our electric bill), but we went with them to put in a heating/cooling system. It was installed in January 10, 2019. We have had the maintenance done on a yearly basis. Last week an employee came to do the maintenance. He informed us that there was a problem with the line sets - they are defective and have holes in them. He gave us an estimate of approximately $2200.00 to fix the problem. (Yes, that is correct - two thousand, two hundred dollars!). We (the homeowners) are in our 70's, paying a loan for this system, and now have no air conditioning. I now realize I should have done some homework on this company. As you age, you learn some valuable and costly lessons, but it is usually too late. read more

We had this company come out to insulate our roof in Medford on 9/20 site ID# 50334480. The staff are friendly and seem knowledgable, however, they did a poor job at sealing the big access holes in my walls to install the insulation. I e-mailed them on 9/22 looking for resolution for this poor plaster work, no message. I called and left a voicemail on 9/24 and did not receive a call back. So far, not a great experience with this company. Update: After the third contact, I was able to get a hold of someone and they sent a really good plaster guy to repair my wall. This job was paid for by the company. Raising my review to 3 stars from 2 as they recognized they were wrong and fixed the issue. I hope moving forward that this company sends qualified plaster people on the job if they are going to cut big holes in my wall than the standard 3 inch holes for insulation to mitigate this issue. read more

If I could give zero stars I would!!! Horrific experience! I do not want anyone to go through what I just did. Please do not let these people in your home, unless you want them to leave you with a ton of damage to your home. They are careless and reckless with your house and property. Please save yourself the frustration, time, and money. Upper management is a joke and only wants to cover their ass and they have no concept of what customer service is or how to talk to an upset customer. I'm an easygoing person but wow, I just didn't expect to let these people in my home and leave my house with thousands of dollars in damage! And now it's up to me to fix it all. Just not ok. I connected with HomeWorks Energy through the Mass Save program and quickly set up appointments for insulation work. Their insulation crew did a good job in my basement and attic adding insulations and sealing around the edges. I am especially happy with the subsequent work done by their drywall guy, Dean Stravatl. Dean is very professional, cordial, patient, in additional to processing excellent craftmanship. Dean meticulously worked to fix the hole in the bedroom ceiling that was left due to the insulation work and explained what he found in the ceiling (old molds) and what he needed to do. He repainted the entire bedroom ceiling to ensure the ceiling looked the same throughout. Dean made sure my bedroom surface was covered to shield it from the construction dust before doing the work. After Dean left, we did not have to clean the bedroom at all. The biggest issue I have with the vendor is their appointment communications. I was not informed when Dean is scheduled to do the work until I called. And when Dean came the first and second times, they did not have the insulation folks to come to add the boards that were missing for Dean to do the work, resulting in wasted appointments and time. For this, I can't give them perfect score. read more

At first it seemed to be ok. The salesman ho made the original assesment of our house as competent and congenial. However when he returned to install the thermostats he was extremely pushy about installing items we did not want. He then scheduled the work for the insulation. This worked perfectly. The crew arrived on time and were excellent. EXCEPT they underestimated the amount of insultion needed and left the job imcomplete after promising to return. They also required FULL payment. Big mistake! This was almost three months ago and we have left numerous messages with the office in a, so far, futile effort to have the the job finished. read more

Updating this review. After a lot of bad experiences, someone finally cut through the red tape and mad things right. I wish things had gone more smoothly, but my home is warm when it supposed to be and cool when it is supposed to be. Not sure I would offer a recommendation without caveats. Do not recommend. Was charged over $6k for a mini split. It was delivered on 10/28 and electrician never showed up to install. It has been over 2 weeks. Have called Mass save several times and they promise to get back to us to schedule the install but have not followed through. They are quick to charge my credit card though.. extremely disappointed. HomeWorks Energy was the company assigned to us through the Mass Save program. Overall, we were satisfied with the work completed according to our requirements. Getting from the original assessment to an agreed upon modified scope of work took more of our time, and elapsed time, than it should have. Mark Miller did an excellent job with the original assessment and explaining the work that could be done to improve energy efficiencies. We were very satisfied with the work performed by the installation team of Keith, Tim and Billi. They were efficient, neat and thorough with their work. They also had to modify the work order they had been given due to an internal company miscommunication regarding the original assessment and modification that had been subsequently made, but were able to complete the work as scheduled. read more

Went through Mass Save for insulation. They came by to do an energy audit. Said the furnace was old and should probably be replaced. It's been a problem for years so I agreed to replace the furnace and the central air condenser. The original installation date was canceled because the product was not available. A tentative date was rescheduled with the promise to call and confirm that the product was available. One day before that date I called HE because I had not heard from them. I was told that I would definitely hear from them when they were ready to deliver. To my surprise I arrive home the next day to find boxes of stuff that was piled in the work area. My work-at-home daughter had to move the stuff because HE arrived without advance notice. Ok, minor problem at least a new furnace was installed (or so I thought). The next day they installed the condenser. It wasn't until almost a week later when the weather became cold that I discovered that the products had not been completely installed. HE made no attempts to contact me about this. When I called the office they seemed surprised when I told them about the very cold night my family and I had just spent. Now HE has an installer and an electrician come by to finish the work that should have been done a week earlier. Phone calls back and forth to the installer in the proceeding days. A bunch of empty promises. I come home every night from work to find that neither the furnace nor the central air to be in proper working condition. A week and a half after HE removed my old but working furnace I remain without heat in my home. read more

They walked away from the job! The guy that came do the assessment stayed about 3 hours, looking around and got my hopes up on what they could do to improve my house insulation. Later on, an installation crew came and, just after a quick glance, said they couldn't do anything and left. Huge loss of time for me, no apologies offered, very little explanation why they were not doing anything, and had to wait two weeks to get back my deposit. I had to call the Masssave program administrator / lead vendor for my area, abode energy management, to get a clear explanation on why they walked away from the job. Don't lose your time with them, go through abode or other first for the assessment. read more

Clear explanations and recommendations from the energy assessor, as well as replacing multiple lightbulbs and providing us with power cords courtesy of the MassSave program. Alex, Keith G and John Le were here the past two days doing the insulation work. They were professional, polite and pleasant to deal with; and I felt confident that they knew what they were doing and comfortable with them in my home. They took time to show me their work and talk me through the invoice in detail. Everything was left clean and tidy after they finished the job. Looking forward to feeling the difference in our home. Just to add (on seeing the comment below), that I gave four stars at this point because we haven't yet seen how successful the new insulation will be in our home - that will take some time... From the energy assessor to the install crew for the insulation, the process was accurate, well done, and inexpensive for what I received. John was the energy assessor and he explained clearly exactly what would be done, which included installing 2 programmable thermostats, and replacing any incandescent light bulbs, and halogen lights. They do not replace compact fluorescent, those are fairly efficient as it is. Then I opted to use the insulation service. They heavily discount the service with an "air sealing, and insulation incentive" Which reduced the bill significantly. I'd use the actual amounts, but each house is different depending on sq feet, plus changes over the years. It took about 80% off though. To the installers, Yunior (Junior), Roy, and Jerrod, from Abode Energy Managment, you guys did a great job. They were here almost 9 hours sealing every last crack with small cell foam, and "normal" pink fiberglass insulation, along the ridge in the basement. They sealed all the areas in the attic, like drilled holes from electrical wire etc. Then Yunior sprayed insulation over the top of the existing insulation, bringing the r value up to approximately 38 from what was probably 16-20. They also properly vented the two upstairs bathroom exhaust fans. Typically in a house, the vents are just shoved into the soffits, which is obviously not as efficient. Lastly they added door sweeps and to the garage door they added a sweep, plus a foam insulator around the entire door. My wife already feels warmer! Excellent and highly recommend. You are paying every month into this, you may as well use the s service! read more

While I am basically happy with the product, I am MOST DISAPPOINTED with the follow up. This is a company which does not "service what it sells". I am still waiting to see EXACTLY HOW TO GET THESE MINI-SPLITS TO WORK most efficiently. Certainly I get the basic concept, but how to set the time? The basic instruction booklet needs alot to be desired! Someone was due to come, but he was on maternity leave. He has tried to get someone to come, but no one came after an appointment. (Someone dropped by, by I was not home. He had not told me he was coming.) I have called numerous times with NO CALL BACKS. I would not recommend this company with all ther other companies to install these systems. read more

Gave a quote for suggested extras to make the house even more efficient which were completed in a timely manner for very reasonable cost. I noticed the negative reviews. But I mostly had positive experiences with HomeWorks. They came to my house for an initial consultation and installed new water faucets and a thermostat. About a week they put additional insulation on my attic. The only problems I had with Homeworks was the workers could have cleaned up the areas they worked in a little bit better. Plus one worker put sandpaper in the toilet instead of putting it in a nearby trash can. read more

I unfortunately cannot recommend this company. The employees who came to do the work at my house were very courteous but the outcome of the job was unsuccessful. HomeWorks was hired to do a heating & cooling job which was completed in mid November. A couple of days later, we contacted the company to report that the heating was inadequate on the second floor of the house. Our master bedroom always had an issue where it was always 2-3 degrees cooler which I can understand considering that we have a forced air furnace. After HomeWorks energy completed the job, the entire second floor was cooler than before and my master bedroom was significantly cooler. Keep in mind our 30+ yr old furnace warmed the second floor far better before-at a time where we had older windows and less insulation. Now, after an insulation job by HomeWorks, new windows and the new furnace, the house is still a lot cooler. After contacting the office to report the issue, a technician came to investigate and the problem was not resolved. I then called to make them aware and was told someone would return my call and no one did. I later followed up with an email to our Account Manager whom I had to email twice in the span of a week in order to get a reply. She replied politely and said she or a technician would be getting back to me and no one did. I let another two weeks go by considering that this was around the holiday season. I then followed up with another email, an inquiry on the website, and a text to the manger and heard from no one. I then had to call the office, explain the issue all over again and request a manager in order to get someone to assist with the issue. The manager sent someone the very next day and they made some adjustments to the job. Now a little more than a week later, we are still having the issue. Since November, we have had to keep our heat at 73-75 degrees on the lower floor during the day, keep a sweater on at times and have space heaters on throughout the night in order to keep the bedroom temperatures from dropping down to 63-65 degrees. Of course, our electric bill has now increased. I'm sure the company strategy probably includes an element of attempting to charge for something additional if we require further assistance. Another concern I have is that our original furnace was 100k BTUs and the new one is 80k. HomeWorks recommended the current one as the newer furnaces are said to be more efficient. I'm not sure if this is relevant to our issue as I am not well-versed in HVAC but I still wonder. Lastly, HomeWorks energy was overpaid by over $200 and we were told in November that we would be reimbursed within 7 business days and we have yet to receive a reimbursement. It's not a lot of money but it's the principle that matters. I'm sure if our payment was short by that much, it would not be overlooked. Please be cautious if you are considering this company. read more

The Homeworks team did an excellent job; audit through installation. Their workers were professional, personable and hard-working. I have a two family home built in 1910 that had little to no insulation. Homeworks came in and talked through financing options that worked for us. The insulation team came in and insulated every square inch that they could get to; even crawling into spaces they could barely fit in! Over the past two years we've seen an incredible increase in the efficiency of our home and can pay it off through a 0 interest heat loan. Highly recommend this team! read more

So far I have only had my Initial energy Audit. Greg was fantastic, he was flexible on making sure that the schedule worked with me on a day that I was home to go over everything. We talked about my house and some of my options. I still waiting on a call back from the office to schedule the work, have my HVAC inspected, and to have a solar installation reviewed. So far I have been very happy with the technicians personableness, knowledge, and the companies customer service. I will write a follow up after I have the work done... FYI - I am a construction superintendent for a large general contractor, so I am well versed in construction and am interested to see how their means and methods stand up to the industry standard. read more

HomeWorks Energy provided my standard MassSave assessment, and a scheduled heating/cooling assessment. Based on their work, I do not think it was worth my time. For the MassSave assessment, their only work was to change one lightbulb in our kitchen and leave two (useless) "smart" power strips that we won't use, since we don't have a TV or stereo. They did recommend some minor insulation, which we are planning to do ourselves, because even with the 70% discount from MassSave it is $1000 less expensive than their cost. Also, as a warning, their recommendations only bring up insulation levels to current building code. Energy saving standard-of-practice generally recommend much more attic and basement insulation than HomeWorks can recommend or offer discounts on. Finally, and this is what prompted me to write this review, I scheduled an additional heating and cooling assessment, as my initial MassSave inspector wasn't knowledgeable in those areas and didn't have any suggestions to offer. Instead of the inspector showing up, though, I got a phone call 10 minutes before our scheduled time, claiming that they didn't recommend their team coming out to the property because 1). the previous inspector saw a few pieces of fiberglass (personally installed and then removed by me when it melted) adhered to a radiator pipe, and they needed an asbestos abatement company to sign off on it before they could do any work, and 2). because I wasn't yet eligible for a particular rebate, they didn't think it was worth their time. Given that I wanted to talk about future installation options to budget and plan for, I found this deeply unprofessional, not to mention ridiciously red-tape laden. I would NOT recommend HomeWorks Energy for any work or assessments in the future. read more

They were hired through the Mass Save program to put insulation in a few areas of my house. The one day job turned in to three days. We were charged more than the signed contract price, with no explanation. Two parts of the job were not done (they admitted they could not reach an area), yet pricing was still higher. The installation crew was great. The customer service / Install issues department is horrendous. I continue to call, only to be told that Bob Langlais is 'extremely busy right now' and he would call me right back. Its been days, and I have gotten no where!! They overcharged me $112.34, and I can not get an answer or explanation from anyone there. read more

I had M come out and do an audit at our house last week and she was fantastic. She checked the house from top to bottom and definitely gave us some very useful suggestions and feedback. She changed out about 8 bulbs and left two power strips which are great for our family room and my home office. I'm a little nervous about the upcoming work we have scheduled but I guess we'll see what happens. Initial impressions were definitely four stars. I took a bunch of her cards for my neighbors but lets see what happens when the work actually happens. I will gladly update my comments once the insulation work happens. read more

This is one of the worst company to have a business done with. In this company, right hand does not know, what the left hand is doing. No co-operation from employees, supervisor. I called them to install a Boiler in my home. First, problem with the estimate. second, no one explain how it is going to be install. Third, they will replace with rubber piping rather than copper (very cheap stuff). After it is done, called them several times for boiler not working properly. No answer and no response. Leave message, no one will return your call. Employees put the burden on other's employee but won't help. Horrible company and please stay away from them. They will cheat you on your loan money too. read more

Both workers arrived prior to the scheduled time. Masked. Very personable. Explained in detail as to what services they were there to provide. Very professional, attentive, took care in placing drop cloths on stairwells and areas where they were working. I was completely satisfied with work performed. Last item to be taken care of was to vent dryer to the outside. Took considerably longer than anticipated. Not their fault. Old house, they were persistent in getting the job completed. Customer service, communication and tidiness is almost non existent, but the final product is better than what I had before. So, I will take it as a win. I was frustrated, but didn't want to post a review because the guys that were here really did seem to be working hard...they just need to work on their communication and clean up skills. I decided that they are just trying to get by and don't need my review to ruin their week. Then, I realized that they took my waste basket. They used it to carry out some junk and then took it. WTH?? Why? But, they left a shirt and box cutter, so I had to decide what, if any effort, I needed to make to return them and get my waste basket back. I decided on no effort. I said farewell to the waste basket and thought of all of our good memories, then I threw out the shirt, and the box cutter is now mine in the weird "we take your waste basket and leave you this box cutter trade of 2021". Bottom line is I would not recommend HomeWorks, but if you end up with them, there are worse companies out there. For only paying 25% through MassSave, I guess I got what I paid for...minus one waste basket. read more

I had a home energy assessment done today with HomeWorks Energy. I received free light bulbs, a new shower head and smart outlet strips. The guys were very professional and thorough with their audit. They recommended insulation services which I plan to do. They also setup an appointment for HVAC so I can get an estimate for ductless mini splits. I will recommend HomeWorks to my friends and family to help them save money on their energy consumption. read more

Wish I could give them a zero star rating. This company is awful. Extremely unprofessional. They never returned my emails or calls to communicate and schedule appointments. Their technicians don't know how to measure combustion tests. They were a no-show for one appointment and a half a day late on another appointment. 10/23/22 I want to update my review of Homeworks Energy. I received a response from Homeworks COO Chris Nichols. He asked me to reach out with my contact info and he would call me to make this situation right. True to his word, he did just that. In the course of the conversation, I related to him my experience and the gross charges for the work his company performed. He agreed it seemed excessive. The long and short is Chris said he would make this right... and he did. He issued me a FULL REFUND for the work performed. I never expected this. I will say it restored my faith that there are still companies out there that will do right thing and provide outstanding customer service. Although I originally said I would NEVER change my review, what can I say... Chris made me go back on my work... lol. I am changing my review to 4 stars based on Chris' customer service. I cannot give 5, simply because Homeworks could have done a few things better on the installation of my ductless mini-splits. Otherwise, I would now recommend Homeworks based on their customer service and willingness to make things right! read more

We had a sales person out to our house last Spring... I foolishly believed everything this gentleman told me. He mentioned MANY times how experienced he was and how his primary job now is to teach other in the company. If he is the one doing the teaching, you're going to have more issues than just mine. I was going to let this all go because my frustration level was at an all time high and every time I called I was completely blown off or told I would get a call back, but every time I turn around I'm finding something else wrong that has to do with the mistake I made with letting HomeWorks Energy employees/contractors in my home. The "experienced" sales person didn't measure my attic space/crawl space correctly and I ended up with an hole in my ceiling for nothing since the technician couldn't spray the insulation. I never received instructions prior to the technicians coming to my home, so to find out I needed all windows and doors completely sealed in the middle of summer was a shock. I had to remove air conditioners from my windows on my own, one of the air conditioners fell from the second floor window, hit the brand new siding on my home and punctured it, and snapped the brand new window casing on a new window. Prior to that, I was trying to hold the air conditioner (that I was told needed to be removed) and the cord wrapped around my hand, and I broke my finger. I went downstairs in tears with a broken finger, and was told they needed to complete an air flow test and turned the heat up on all thermostats, in 90 degree weather. Again, NONE of this was explained ahead of time. One technician didn't fix the hole in the ceiling correctly, therefore when someone came out to fix it, he realized he had to come back multiple times. The other technician said he was going spray foam in part of our basement, which I thought was the only part to go correctly, until last night. My husband had to move items in the basement and there was foam completely covering decorations and very old family pictures, along with expensive light fixtures we had stored. Between the commercial light fixtures (2 at $500 a piece), the part of the siding WE HAVE TO REPLACE ($570), the window casing ($200), medical bills for my broken finger and three days out of work for this fiasco, I am completely beside myself and will now be telling everyone I know NOT to trust HomeWorks Energy representatives and contractors. read more

Engaged HomeWorks Energy to do an a Mass Save energy audit. First auditor missed about 40% of the work that needed to be done including a second bathroom venting issue ($250) and recessed lighting issues ($1,000) which could have been resolved at no cost. 2nd auditor required the 2nd vent to proceed with work at my cost (another $250). Work proposal included the $1,000 recessed lighting (cost again at my cost). The recessed lighting issue required an electrician to approve the work - another $300 charge to me (I came to find out that they have electricians standing by who would do the work at no cost to me). Spoke to a 'manager' who assured me all the problems would be resolved. At this point they are no longer returning my calls. If I had approved the first proposal it would have cost me an additional $1,750 out-of-pocket. Reach your own conclusions about doing wok with this company. read more
