This place is amazing! I've been here a couple of times already. The first time, I was overwhelmed with all the food option. By the second time, I have a game plan. Get your sauces ready at the sauce bar. They have every sauce, dipping, flavor etc you can think of. Then there's the food (meat, seafood, veggies) for the hot pot....then there's the buffet that is part of the hot pot....OH ...they also have sushi that is part of the hot pot. Okay, I have mixed feelings about Homey. Love the name, price and concept but the restaurant was not the cleanest and items are incorrectly labeled throughout. The idea is that you grab your raw ingredients, ranging from seafood, lean meats, vegetables, etc. and cook them in the soup base of your choice at your table. There is also an area full of ingredients to create sauces of your own. The restaurant also has a traditional Chinese buffet which was just okay. Some of the food had clearly been sitting out for hours, my dessert had lint all over it, and a few of the sushi pieces I had tasted like they were made last week. However, the hot pot situation at the table was good. I enjoyed making my dish with the company of friends and had a good experience. An important thing to note: you are charged a fee if you waste too much food. Great incentive to be mindful of how much food you're putting on your plate! Overall, I had a great time with the experience but not quite sure I will return to this specific hot pot restaurant. read more

You pick a broth flavor, then go to the very large buffet tables to select from a variety of raw vegetables, seafood, meats and more to bring back to the table to "cook" your selected food in the boiling hot pots. Each customer gets their own pot. There is another table with an assortment of sauces and dips to season your food with. Chop sticks or utensils - both are available. A fun place to try something new and tasty. Kind of like fondue where you dip foods in oil or cheese, but this is like making your own soup. Very filling. Excellent deal for the variety of food you can receive! Our group did the hot pot and buffet, which includes hot pot, some hot and cold entree/dessert items, AND sushi! I just got the original broth and I was afraid it would be too boring, but it was perfect because you get to mix in different sauces. From the Buffett favorite was the plantains. Service was fair, but you're pretty self sufficient here unless you're ordering lots of sushi. This is probably the best hot pot place you can go to in Indy--and probably Indiana. I've been to one in LA and I would actually say this is comparable. They have a decent sized parking lot. read more

Despite living in Japan for a couple years, I never had "hotpot". Unfortunately I have nothing to compare it to. I have enjoyed eating at this restaurant on several occasions. There is a great selection of food to cook in your hotpot. You can really get away sharing one pot between two or three people. I'm not sure if they allow that though. For the price, they charge it's so worth the money. If you loved being able to cook your own food, I would say this gonna be the perfect place. You can enjoy all you can eat sushi, cooked and hot pot. Hot pot has so many choices including seafood, meat(port/lamb/beef) and vegetables. And the source bar has so many choices as well. The staffs are very friendly and attentive. It has plenty of parking spots in front of the restaurant. The reasons why they lost one star were some dishes do not have labels on what it is and they have an issue with a payment system. I think this will be improving soon. read more

I've had hotpot quite a few times at this point and I've always found the buffet style the best since you can mix and match what you want and try new things without getting a whole "order" in case you don't like it. This place is a buffet and they do Chinese food, sushi, hibachi, and hotpot all as a buffet! We got the hotpot and sushi buffet for $23 and were so happy with the hotpot we totally forgot about the sushi until we were too full. The buffet area and really the restaurant in general are incredibly clean, nice, and new. They had an amazing selection of food, and all the staff was super nice and very attentive. I will 100% be back to try more stuff, but I may just end up stuffing myself with hotpot. read more

Second time coming here for a work trip and enjoyed both times. I came around 4PM both times and they were not busy at all. I got the hotpot buffet and really took advantage of the meats and shrimp, after all you gotta get your moneys worth. The Chinese buffet isn't all that great, both times the food looked old. We met friends here for lunch. This was my first "buffet" since the pandemic, but I was very happy to see employees constantly cleaning the food area. They also had gloves to use each time you went up to get food. I didn't really do the typical buffet selections, but all the raw proteins and veggies are all together mostly in one area. I did have some sushi, they were making it fresh right there at the buffet. I did the full food option that included everything. You pick your cooking broth and they bring you a pot that heats right on your table. They had a lot of selections. I don't do seafood, but found a lot of options. They seemed to have a ton of seafood. There were also a ton of vegetables. You can even do an egg. It was a very fun experience and everything was tasty. If you need more broth they just bring you regular to add to your pot. They have a parking lot with plenty of spaces. They kept the restrant very clean and our waitress was really great! It might help to have better signs for the food. The best part was the sauce bar. read more

I went here with a Meetup group that introduced me to this buffet. There are burners on the table that you turn on and control the temperature. You select the broth. Several selections. Then you go down to the buffet to pick your ingredients. Fish, chicken, steak, shrimp, mushrooms, and an array of veggies. You return to your seat and simmer your ingredients in the pit on your burner. This place does serve other items that don't need to be simmered. After a small cooking time, you dish out your choices from the pot onto your plate. Let it cool for a second or two. Then eat. A bit of a production for a supper out but worth sharing with friends. Basic Pho, if you have made pho before. This location was easy to hit from 38th street off 65 north. Stand alone building. Good parking. Ok, it says buffet and I guess it is kinda. It's a hot pot restaurant. I'd never had hot pot before nor had my husband but we like different the place was clean and the distancing good, so we went in We were seated at a table that had four burners then given a menu to pick the broth that would be the base of our hot pot. We picked a hot one lol but when it came we took the Thai bird's eye chilis out. It was pretty hit but very tasty. Anyway, this is where the buffet comes in. There is a very long well-stocked display of things you look at in your broth then with the chop stocks or the little spider they give you you take them out to eat. The selection was great at least 4 types of mushrooms which my husband loved. I am way too many dumplings. There was baby spinach and other greens and all sorts of vegetables. There were condiments and lots of this sliced meat but honestly I was in dumpling vegetable heaven and couldn't explore .one test I have for a restaurant is how I feel after eating there well I was very pleasantly sated but I didn't have that heavy feeling probably since there was no fat in anything I ate .they have a sushi side and that's a BIG NO. Unfortunately there are not a lot of places to find hot pots in Indy. So I decided to take a drive and try Homey for the first time. It was a great decision!! The place is huge, cleans and the atmosphere is really nice! The food selections are also huge!! You can have hot pot, sushi and buffet for the same price and believe me when I say they have it all!! For $27.99 (AYCE) Homey Hot Pot is the only authentic Chinese hot pot in town compared to K-Town Korean BBQ & Hot Pot which is (Americanized with a time limit) if that's what you like. Meal was pretty good overall for first time at this location. Very large restaurant that is very spacious! Many options of sushi, hotpot add-ons, and sauces. Sauces were a little skeptical today, some were chunky, some were too grainy, it was just a really weird taste/consistency for some. The meats for hotpot were delicious, highly recommend. There's 4 options when I came and I was not disappointed. Wish the labels for what kind of items were correct. As a first timer/bringing hotpot first timers, my friend and I were unsure of what items were and were hesitant to try. Server asked for more soup in our hotpot and I only wanted a little and when I said that enough, they continued to pour until almost to the rim and the soup they poured in diluted the flavor of our spicy and tube bone broth. :-( So the super great base flavor disappeared afterwards. Today was my big chance to dine at Homey Hot Pot. The building on the outside is not impressive, when you enter the door you can see that a lot of money has been invested to make this a gorgeous, inviting place to come and have a nice meal with family and or friends. They have the hot pot and all of the tables have marble tops with built in convection spots where you can control the heat of your own hot pot. I didn't order the Hot Pot, but I did see a lot of seafood items and veggies to use. I got the buffet and there were some familiar items there and also some unfamiliar items. I got a bowl of Hot and Sour soup which is my favorite soup. It wasn't the best Hot and Sour soup I've ever had, but it wasn't the worst either. I like a little more spice and a little more sour. It was only Luke warm from the fire. There were several different noodles, veggies, and greens in the soup. How about Crab Rangoon? We tried those, but there was less than a teaspoon of filling. Other things I tried weren't labeled so I can say they tasted ok, but everything was room temperature. I shouldn't say everything, because the ice cream was cold! lol Oh! I did want to mention the egg rolls. I just love egg rolls, but it's difficult to find a good one. Theses were filled with cabbage only. Pretty plain in my opinion. I was happy to see Homey was open and providing online ordering without the fees charged by Grubhub, etc. I placed my order, put in the pickup time and chose to pay when I picked up the food. My food was done on time, exactly as I ordered it, and was some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. We ordered the hot and sour soup and a wonton soup and both very good and we highly recommend them. No gloppy, overly salty, doughy wonton buffet soup here. We also ordered a variety of sushi and all were excellent. The man working the register who packed my food was also very pleasant and gave excellent customer service, which I've always received at Homey. Thank you for providing excellent food and service at reasonable prices. They are serving hotpot and buffet with COVID-19 provisions in place. I believe you must sanitize your hands and use provided gloves when getting your food, based on the sights I saw, but can't speak firsthand. read more

This place is AMAZING!!! Tucked along the side of Lafayette road it looks very unassuming. Walk in and woah! It's a like a mall for goodness. I went with my parents on Christmas eve and man it got busy with all varieties of peoples! We opted for the hot pots, of course, but there's still a full delicious looking menu available. But the hot pots is where it's at...plus sushi is also included. The sushi looked pretty basic and I don't like Krab so maybe skip it. The hot pots include a full buffet with so many options it's easy to feel overwhelmed. BE ADVENTUROUS!! When else can you try hearts, stomach linings, different fish, exotic veggies, and all that? There's your typical foods, noodles, and veggies too. I'd recommend doing a hotpot YouTube tutorial before you go because there's definitely a "way to do it" and there's no explanation or instruction for noob westerners. It makes for a more enjoyable eating experience because it can seem intimidating! We saw seasoned veterans who frequent this establishment so maybe watch them, just don't be creepy. Also, I'd put the heat on low...it's easy to burn your tongue. The staff we experienced were a little shaky and the english isn't the best so be patient! I was super excited to try Homey Hot Pot as hot pot is a fun family meal experience in Chinese culture and I haven't done it since I was a kid at home. When we arrived, there were tons of cars so I thought it was a good sign. When we walked in, it was a bit chaotic as there were employees and customers running around everywhere. We weren't sure who the hostess was and who to tell that we were there to dine in. Finally, someone asked how many people we had and then ran away after I said four. We were passed on to several people assuring us that they were working on our table. We just weren't sure who to look to and if who we were supposed to follow to our table as multiple people were talking to us as once. Finally, we were seated and there wasn't an explanation of how it worked. We were just asked what broth we wanted. I was able to explain the process to my friends but if none of us had experience, we would've been lost. On to the buffet: it was cool to see all the options you could put in your pot, seafood, red meat, vegetables, noodles, etc. the options were endless. However, some of the meat was half frozen that we couldn't even pick it up with our tongs. I get that the raw food should be cold to not get people sick, but it was so hard to not pick up a big chunk of frozen-together raw food. There were also pre-cooked entrees on the buffet and sushi. In the middle of the buffet, they had a hibachi/stir-fry station. I tried a few bites from the "hot" buffet but the food was not fresh and I didn't even feel any type of heat coming from underneath the plates, just the heat lamps that hung above the glass. I was extremely underwhelmed in this whole experience. I feel more comfortable going to Asia Mart/Viet Hua grocery store to buy a hot pot kit and do it in the comfort of my own home. read more

I can't wait to go back here because... we were doing it all wrong! I e only recently heard of hot pots and they looked so cozy so I really wanted to go here. Here's what I wish for this business. Little table cards explaining what hot pot is and tips on how to do it. I asked a few questions but I think we both had trouuble understanding each other. Once we got home I quickly watched videos on how to eat hot pot and realized our experience could have been way better. It wasn't bad but with knowledge it could have been extra delicious because they have a good array of options. Here's some tips if you're going and are noobs like us. Choose your base broth. This is how you will be cooking all of your food. Servers will come around and add more broth if needed but choose that first one wisely because refillls are all the same. Next time we go I'm going to grab all of our plates off what we want to cook instead of going back like you'd normally do at a buffet. The idea of the hot pot is it's an adventure all up to you. While you're cooking you're building flavor in your broth. You're also not eating this like soup (hello burnt tongue speaking) you're cooking each ingredient. Here's a suggested order in which to cook: Vegetables that take awhile to cook like potatoes, taro, pumpkin. Seafood to help develop flavor in your broth. Any meats. Just remember that some meats literally only take seconds because of how thinly sliced they are. It was suggested in one of the videos to do any noodles last because the starch from them messes with your broth and also soaks it all up. I think next time I will turn my hot pot off and then finish with my noodles and enjoy the broth I helped create for my meal. Sauce! They had a huge sauce section and it's like a create your own sauce. So everything that comes out of your hot pot can get dipped in sauce. It's very much an adventure and journey.
