Homey can be a little confusing your first time. When I say confusing, I mean that in every way from pricing to how you cook your food to which buffet you're eating from. My son wanted to try the hot pot buffet. You start by picking your soup that you'll cook your food in. The original is more/less a simple broth and I opted for the hot and spicy at medium strength. Basically, they bring you your broth, you go to the hot pot buffet side and pick what you want to cook in your broth. I'd recommend starting out with some noodles, a few dumplings and a protein before going crazy just to get the hang of it. You turn on your tabletop cooket with the little dial in front of you. It heats up quick and mine came to a rolling boil after about sixty seconds. Turn the heat down or off if you're not actively cooking. After you get the hang of it, go crazy. I was a little apprehensive when picking what to cook because not everything was labeled correctly. You can read the labels wrong and end up getting pig blood cake to cook instead of something else if you're not paying attention. You should expect to pay about $25 per person. What a discovery! I opted for the Hot Pot because along with it one enjoy from the buffet and sushi menu. I chose to stick with the Hot Pot, though. The hot pot menu is full of selection that includes all of the best leafy greens, roots, stems, and seafood, pork, chicken, beef, and everything in between that includes the lobster. It's a house of indulgence and delight for sure. I cannot pass by Indianapolis without making a detour to Homey whether it be a long or short one now that I am totally head over heels with this place. read more

HOT POT!!! As one of the only places in Indy to get hot pot (other than at home), this place was so tasty. The price is right, the options are plentiful, and the soup bases are at varying spice levels. It's definitely a place you can take friends for a celebratory dinner if you want to have a good time, not a fancy time. One of my favorite parts of Homey is the dipping station, where you have hundreds of combination options between different sauces, toppings and oils. And did I mention it's all you can eat? Came here the other day since I had driven past this place so many times. We came in and was greeted by some very helpful staff. The place itself looks much bigger on the inside than on the outside. When we sat down, we had our choice of individual hot pot broth. Then we went to the buffet to pick our ingredients for the hot pot. The International Marketplace never fails to impress me with interesting restaurants that serve wonderful cuisine. While some shy away from buffets, there are a plethora of them in the marketplace. They certainly allow for the unbridled sampling of newfound favorites. Homey Hot Pot and Sushi Buffet, located in the former space that housed Szechuan Garden, serves Chinese hot pot, sushi, and homemade Chinese favorites in an all-you-can-eat, buffet setting. Take-out and curbside menus are also available. Homey is a massive restaurant, and even if crowded, the diner won't likely have to vie for a seat. Booths and tables are available, all of which have spaces for hot pot bowls that allow the customer to control the temperature. Upon arrival for dinner, you will have an important choice to make: an all-you-can-eat buffet with eight pieces of sushi ($11.99), or an unlimited buffet, sushi, and hot pot ($22.99). The real magic of the place is their hot pot, so I strongly recommend going all-in. The hot pot selections are seemingly endless. My biggest issue was taking way too many items, which nearly caused my bowl to overflow. It's best to peruse the hot pot aisle to make the best decision on the particular meats, noodles, and vegetables you want for your hot pot. When I said that the selections were myriad, I really wasn't joking. Homey has all the typical meat selections like chicken, beef, pork, lamb, and shrimp. They also stock crawfish, crab, tripe, pig intestine, and chicken heart. There's tofu for the soy protein crowd - as well as countless vegetables. They even have things like lotus root, which is an atypical find. Once you finally mix all of your goodies into the hot pot, you'll have a wonderful creation! I highly recommend the "spicy hot" broth. With so much attention paid to the hot pot, I found the buffet choices to be fairly small. However, the dishes are completely homemade and delicious - unlike some of their buffet competitors. The sushi is rolled before your eyes, but the choices aren't all that interesting. It's definitely fresh. During the pandemic, Homey has offered an excellent takeout and curbside service. I've really appreciated the staff taking my credit card over the phone and delivering my food to the car. The menu is very, very large - and the prices are small. It's been the next best thing to actual buffet therapy. I highly recommend the chicken teriyaki with fried rice and an eggroll. This was my first experience trying hot pot. I am absolutely blown away! For the base I went with spicy and tomato. I did not feel like the spicy soup base was very spicy, so if you like it a bit spicier, go with the hot spicy. However, overall both bases were flavorful. Once you have established your bases, you go grab your toppings. There were SO many to choose from, I have never seen a place with such a variety of things to choose from. I am an adventurous eater, so seeing things I've never tried before really got me excited! Once you have picked up all your meats, veggies, noodles and whatnot, you go to a different area to get a dipping sauce. You can grab as many sauces as you would like. Such an underrated, unknown spot! I've been here a couple times and it took me the second time to do it right. You get unlimited hot pot and sushi for a steal of $25! There is a whole area full of ingredients and a sauce bar for the hot pot. We went in a little blind my first experience because the waitress didn't really explain anything and wasn't that approachable. The second time was much more comfortable. The best broth is the basic plain one. I tried the one with herbs as the base and it had some interesting tastes in it. GASP. HOT POT! Another example of a great Indianapolis Asian restaurant without a particularly asian name. Go in, get the hot pot, order a nice flavorful broth (duck and herb were both really good.) Then load up on all the ingredients you want to throw in. Save any seafood ingredients for last, or the rest of your food will taste like seafood. The sauces are where most of your flavor will come from. Make sure to look at the wall next to the sauces for sauce recipes! I didn't notice this until we were on our way out, but even just creating a semi-random mix of sauces, it was still fantastic. Ok. This place is LEGIT. This is a buffet serving endless hotpot, hibachi, sushi, and American-Chinese offerings - they also have two prices both with and without the hotpot. This review is focused on the hotpot and sushi portions since I was way too stuffed to even venture to the buffet! Having grown up in Asia, my sister and I were always a little sad that Indianapolis didn't have fantastic hotpot options like other similarly sized cities so when she was visiting for the weekend we took the opportunity to go try this place for a weekday lunch. Honestly, not only is it one of the cleanest buffets we've ever been to, but it is also one of the most "complete" as far as food selection. After selecting our broths (bone broth for both of us) we hit up the buffet line - meats, seafoods, carbs, and veggies as far as the eye could see! There is a hotpot specific section of the counters that have all your raw items for cooking. I was so happy to see items beyond just noodles, beef, and broccoli - they had yummy fish cakes, shellfish, unique vegetables, and more! After we dropped off our hotpot plates we hit up the sushi area for a little "appetizer" while the broth heated up and then concocted ourselves up some sauces! I am a salty/savory sauce person and my sister is more of a garlicy/spicy person...we both had more than enough options to mix together as needed. I will call this a 3.5 star review, but rounded to four because of service. We arrived just after opening and were immediately seated. There were a handful of other parties, including a large party downstairs. Our server was very helpful in getting us started and clear on the pricing and what it contained. With hot pot buffet, you have the option to order sushi off of the menu, all you care to eat style. You also have access to the Chinese buffet, sushi buffet, and hibachi. Walking down the stairs was like when the doors opened up in Willy Wonka. The buffet seemed to go on forever. The problem was it was only about 1/4 full of prepared dishes. As they just opened, it seemed they were still in set up stage. I wasn't able to try a number of things for this reason. I got my hot pot items and a bit of lo mein and chicken with broccoli. I'm not sure if it was because I walked around for a bit, but my hot Chinese dishes were cold when I sat down to eat them. I'd probably plan better next time and do less exploring with hot food on my plate. The server said the "hot spicy" was the most popular broth, but I wasn't feelIng that adventurous I got the regular spicy, which was more than hot enough for me! Homey Hot Pot Buffet has replaced the old Szechuan Gardens on Lafayette Road. The renovation was much needed and looks wonderful. Seating consists of booths and tables upstairs and the buffets, private party area and karaoke is downstairs (no ramp that I saw). Homey features all you can eat Hot Pot, hibachi, Chinese and a sushi buffet for $22.99. I'm fairly sure you can purchase just sushi and/or Chinese buffet but our server couldn't understand the question. It was just easier to go with the $22.99 option she kept pointing to on the menu and saying just try. This was our first visit to a hot pot restaurant and we weren't sure of what to expect. We mentioned to our server this was our first time but the language barrier was extremely difficult. We kind of muddled through and worked it out. Beverages served are beer, wines, sake, fruit juices, Cappuccino, coffee and Pepsi products. The hot pot steps are first, you select your soup base from the 9 options. We both went with Spicy. They bring you a bowl (kind of looks like a dog bowl lol), they place on the burner in front of you and fill with your soup base then crank up the heat. 2) Next, go down to the buffet and pick all the ingredients you want to boil in your soup base. 3) You boil the ingredients at the table in the pot until cooked. They will come around numerous times asking if you need additional broth as you eat. I'm not sure what type of broth their using to refill the bowls. If you want to make sure it's the same you should ask. The hot pot buffet is humongous with an impressive assortment of veggies, tofu, greens, shrimp, fish, noodles and several meats (even intestines). You can eat all you want but there is a waste of food charge of $8.99 so start small and go back often. Like our Mother's use to say don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach. The buffet in the center of the room has the prepared Chinese buffet, Chinese soups, fruits, desserts and sushi. Chinese sauces are located on the Chinese buffet. The sauces bar is to the right of the stairs on the upper level. So many options! I usually don't eat enough to make a buffet worth the price. The same happened here too. Plus I'm not a fan of cooking my own food in a restaurant and running back and forth. So for me, I most likely won't be back often. My husband, on the other hand, can consume enough to make it affordable. With the quality, assortment of items, the number of proteins, sushi and Chinese buffet $22.99 is a great price. I've been wanting to try hot pot for awhile and when I saw a fellow yelper bookmark this place, I thought it was a good time to try it out. Apparently this place is a little different than most hot pots in the sense that all your ingredients are actually on a buffet, rather than ordered. I opted for the spicy broth and tried to pick a lot of authentic options. Thank goodness for a neighboring table who told us the ropes because we were kinda left on her own. No biggie but we were definitely unsure what to do. If you get the hot pot, you have access to the hot pot buffet, along with a hibachi and a regular buffet. Probably the best hot pot place in Indianapolis right now. Recently opened so everything inside is very clean and modern. Great selection of different hot pot broths to choose from and the service is really on point. The single serving pots look great and the tables are spacious enough to fit everything you need. I'd stay away from a lot of the seafood because it wasn't really the freshest since it was frozen - stick to the fresh slices of meat (beef was really good). Avoid the sesame and general tso chicken - way too much breading and really over-fried the time I went. Sushi was surprisingly good! You can order a la carte (included if you get the hotpot buffet) but to be honest the stuff at the buffet looked and tasted just fine so I'd go for that so you don't have to order a whole roll. They have an all you can eat special where you can have your own personal hot pot, access to the hot pot bar, the whole sushi menu (excluding combos), and the buffet for $22.99! This is soooo worth it. I got the hot and spicy broth, you can get it medium or extra spicy. If you like a light broth, the original is a good choice! They have a hot pot bar with endless ingredients! Meats ranging from beef, shrimp, and chicken. They also have a wide range of veggie options. My favorite ingredients that they had were the quail eggs, dumplings, and the shin ramen noodles. You get the best bang for your buck when you get the all you can eat option! We also got the shrimp tempura sushi, California roll, and dragon roll sushi on the menu. They were so yum! They're not amazing, but they definitely satisfy the sushi cravings. Chuancai Fang was my favorite spot for indulging in all things hotpot, but now with the new opening of Homey Hot Pot & Sushi Buffet, it may knock Chuancai Fang out of the ball park! Homey used to be Szechuwan Garden, but now they have a new owner, restaurant concept, and a modern renovation of the interior design. This is the first restuarant in Indianapolis to have a larger focus and awareness on offering a hot pot meal. They do a very good job of fully encompassing all aspects of a hot pot meal. You get a wide variety of broths to choose from, mild to spicy, or you can have combination broths for your hot pot. All the ingredients they provide are offered at the hot pot buffet, which is quite exceptional and another authentic method to how it's done in China. The hot pot ingredients they offer here is more extensive and authentic than any other hot pot restaurant I've been to. Even if you do not like to venture out into the unknown with food, I can tell that they have more authentic ingredients because they offer things like pork belly, pig liver, chicken heart, boiled pigs blood curd, winter melon, and tons of seafood options. My personal favorites in a hot pot meal are lamb and pork slices, imitation crab, meatballs, enoki mushrooms, Chinese spinach, lotus root, winter melon, potatoes, vermicilli noodles, and ramen noodles in a spicy broth sauce. Speaking of sauces, don't forget to stop by the dipping sauce station on the upper floor level to create your own dipping sauce! If you would like more flavor on your food, they have an assortment of sauces you can choose from including my favorite, laoganma! Now I can talk on and on about hot pot since that is my favorite meal in the world, but I won't forget to mention the regular buffet food that they offer as well. I did not try much of the regular buffet food since I was stuffing my face full of hot pot, but what I tried of the buffet food was pretty good. They have a good variety and the food is nicely displayed in white ceramic plates. The price of the all you can eat hot pot was $22.99 and it includes the regular buffet food as well. If you only want to eat at the regular buffet food, it's $11.99. And if you only want the sushi buffet, it's something around $7. Now I went to the restaurant on a Sunday for lunch so I'm not sure what the price is like on all other days. I cannot say enough about my first impressions of this newly renovated hot pot restaurant. I enjoyed my meal here but they need to improve. The main problem is that a lot of the food is labeled incorrectly or not at all. I love fish balls but I don't eat pork or beef. There was things labeled as fish balls but definitely had meat inside. I saw labels that were obviously wrong. Some of the food looked like it was sitting out for a long time. I did enjoy my meal but they need to have clear labels on things. So many sauces I might have liked to try and barely any labels - you have no idea what they are. I love a buffet, especially a clean buffet with plenty of options. I love that they offer endless hot pot, this is unique for Indianapolis. My suggestion would be to keep your hotpot on low so that you can enjoy it without burning your mouth, first timer error for me. They also offer hibachi, which was my favorite. We have been twice, and as of this review, this is the best hot pot place in the area. We can't guarantee how long that sentiment is going to last. We have a feeling that the quality will dissipate relatively quickly as the novelty will fade for some. I hope that isn't true, but it seems that there isn't a large enough Asian population to sustain these types of operations. There is a large selection of hot pot items and sauce station. The best part of this all you can eat hot pot is that you collect the items as you want them. You don't have to wait for anyone to bring them too you, which can be frustrating at other hot pot places. We have tried quite a few of the soup bases and I've been pretty happy with the original. None of the rest have been horrible though. The all you can eat hot pot includes the rest of the standard buffet and 8 sushi rolls. I somewhat wish that you could just do hotpot at a discounted rate, but I understand why it would be hard for them to regulate that. Hot pot is a wonderful winter meal, so if you have been entertaining the idea of trying it, now is the time to do so! This place has a lot to offer! I like the different options for they homey hot pot broth and ingredients. I love that you get your own hot pot and not sharing with the rest of table. They have different meat that you can think off from your regular meatballs, to exotic meats, from crabs and imitation crabs from quail eggs to raw eggs. I LOVE IT. When you do a all-you-can-eat hot pot and Chinese you unlock all the food available in their dining area and its so worth it we spend about 2 hours in this joint just eating and eating. The servers are nonstop coming to your table to take off your plates and asking you if you would like a refill on your broth. Beware though, because it says that if you don't finish you food they will charge you by the pound, so just make sure you get enough and you can always keep coming to their food. Their ice cream were good I don't know about their other dessert, they have a hibachi style cooking too though I did not try it. We had heard great things, and finally got to try it. We had a mixed experience. I had the Hot Pot, my wife had the buffet. I had a much more satisfying meal. On the buffet, many items weren't kept hot enough to make the trip down the line and back to table without getting cold. Also the selection was somewhat limited. There were many more options on the Hot Pot side + you get all the buffet items. The Hot Pot items were very fresh. Lots of meats and vegetables. Including shrimp, crab, lobster, beef, chicken, lamb, and more. Our biggest complaint was the lack of good instructions. We didn't understand that there were two different buffet lines down below for the two options. From the lobby it all looks like one. They didn't tell us about the seasoning and spice bar on the upper level. We only saw the soy sauce on the table. They also didn't tell us how long to cook things, or if they could all be cooked together. Homey is pretty ambitious for combining AYCE hot pot, Chinese buffet and sushi into one dinner experience and, for the most part, they do "ok." If Chinese buffet/sushi is what you're looking for, you're in the wrong place. Homey is first and foremost a hot pot buffet with sush/sweet and sour chicken as afterthoughts. Like, very distant afterthoughts. Hot pot offerings aren't bad--there's usually a collection of decent seafood like blue crab, shrimp and crawfish. Meat options are the basics--fatty pork, fatty beef, lean beef and lamb. The sauce bar is one of the better ones in Indy and they do a good job of posting sauce recipes for newbies on the wall. If you want hot pot with a side of beef and broccoli, this place is for you. If you want an awesome Chinese buffet with some hot pot chaser, you'll be disappointed- Dining area: socially distanced, no outdoor seating Best dish: hot and spicy soup base Pro tip: they limit sashimi orders to 8 pieces, you're better off just getting it from the buffet instead of ordering with your waitress! read more

I feel conflicted about putting a 3 or 4 star... I think it's a solid 3.5 but will round up due to it being a local family restaurant... I liked that you can do an individual hot pot. Then you choose all the vegetable and items from the buffet line. I've never had taro in hot pot before and enjoyed it very much along with the quail eggs, vegetables and everything. They will also refill your broth if it goes low. And you can have sushi and other items from the line. Plus you can finish with some old school ice cream on a stick... I disliked the lack of explanation of hot pot. I knew what I was doing, but the servers couldn't even describe the taste of the different broths. On a random Sunday, we decided to venture out and try something new for lunch. I had been longing for authentic Asian food, and my husband suggested that we try out "that hot pot place." So when we pulled up at 11:55 am, we were literally the only car in the parking lot, and the "closed" sign was displayed. Don't let that scare you away. They open right at noon, and people constantly trickled in after we got settled in. Three things to sum up our experience: 1) I grew up eating hot pot. This was legit. 2) If you aren't familiar with hot pot, you need to go with someone who does and can guide you through the ingredients. The food descriptions definitely aren't in the correct placements! 3) Like 90% of the customers were Asian, and in Indiana, that is a VERY promising sign lol. It's not a cheap lunch, but by the time you purchase all the ingredients, prep them, and wash the million bowls that are inevitable, the price is so worth it! I look forward to returning. I didn't give it 5 stars because the sushi was utterly disappointing. I get it, it's buffet sushi, so I know to adjust my expectations accordingly. But it was like worse than grocery store sushi. Our first experience and a major learning curve. We all tried different soup bases, ranging from original to spicy. I didn't really understand the concept until I got to the 'buffet' and 75% of the food was raw, and honestly, poorly identified, so it was a bit of a crap shoot for someone who hasn't really had much Asian cooking experience. After identifying some items I was familiar with, I selected and started what I thought was to be my seasoning for my soup base, it was actually just the ingredients. I wasn't sure at all on cool times so my first batch was a lot overcooked as I went back and got some of the prepared foods to enjoy while my soup simmered. Please excuse me, for I am recovering from a food coma. $24 AYCE hotpot really gives you the best bang for your buck. You get your own soup base (I got tube bone broth - yes it comes with a big bone in it). Several protein options, even for vegetarians. Of course endless veggies too. Don't get too excited about the cooked food buffet, though. You could tell it wasn't super fresh and the sushi was getting a little dried out. I do highly recommend the sashimi; you order it from the menu but it's included with the hotpot buffet. I will definitely back!! read more
