Itadakimasu! We have eaten at Hon Ramen several times and each time is a delight. On our first visit we tried takoyaki as an appetizer and were smitten. These are fried octopus balls with a delicate crispy shell and a creamy interior with perfectly cooked octopus. They are garnished with kewpie mayonnaise and eel sauce with delicate shaved fish dancing on top. This is the only place in town for takoyaki and it is exactly like takoyaki in Japan. This time we opted for the salmon rolls which have pillow soft steamed buns, perfectly cooked moist salmon, eel sauce, and sweet slivered carrot. They are light and delicious with an order of two making a wonderful appetizer for the both of us. My husband ordered the Bulgoji bowl with savory and tender beef atop sticky rice. It is beautifully seasoned and not spicy which I love because I can actually enjoy it. In general bulgoji is too spicy for me so this is a wonderful discovery. My choice of chicken Ramen was also a win as the broth is rich and savory and the noodles have a great firm bite. The bowl is dressed with rich and tender chicken thigh, a fish cake, broccoli, spring onion, slivered carrot, and a marinated soft boiled egg. Food and service are phenomenal...Hon Ramen is THE place to go in Bakersfield. The sushi here is also top notch and prepared by the owner. One of my favorite ramen spots! The service is always great! I absolutely love the Spicy Tan Tan Men ramen. I also tried the vegetable egg rolls and spicy garlic edamame, and both were delicious. The restaurant is super cute and cozy, and they offer more than just ramen with sushi, wine, soju, and Asian beer on the menu. I've been coming to this restaurant for many years, and whenever I'm craving this type of food, it usually always hits the spot. However, during my last visit, I noticed something that didn't sit right with me, and I just wanted to make others aware. The restaurant automatically adds an 18% gratuity for parties of five or more, including small children in the party count. While I understand restaurants have policies, what bothered me was that it wasn't verbally mentioned or clearly pointed out during our visit, which makes it very easy to overlook. If you pay by card, the receipt they bring you already includes the gratuity in the total. However, the signature slip still suggests additional tip amounts at the bottom, which can easily lead people to accidentally double tip without realizing it. I'm sharing this simply so people can pay attention before signing. In today's economy, every extra dollar matters for families dining out. And while some people may say, "If you can't afford to tip, don't eat out," the reality is that restaurants rely on customers to stay in business too. I had a very fast & good experience here for lunch! I walked over here from the court (jury duty nonsense) because it was so close by. I got here right before 12 & I was seated immediately. Within 5 minutes of ordering, I received my food! My server was quick. I totally beat the lunch rush! I love the atmosphere in here. The bright colors are fun & the architecture is modern & cute. Came because it had the best ramen reviews for Bakersfield. It did not disappoint. I got the spicy tonkotsu with a lot of add ons: Tantan pork, garlic, tofu, kimchi. Tho if you're expecting a lot of heat, this isn't it. It had a very small kick of spice. The gyozas were alright. The presentation was super pleasing. The sauce didn't really do it for me but the texture of the qyozas were good. Green tea ice cream didn't have a lot of green tea flavor but was still good. I loved the little umbrella! We had some ambient light, some EDM playlist was on, so I'd say it's fun with a group of friends. Seen some people on dates there too, just like casual. Servers were very nice and personable, but I think for how busy it gets, they are a bit short on staff! My waiter was really great and even made me a makeshift chopstick helper when I asked for a fork which is fun. Cool trick. They have a good variety on the menu. My friends ordered some spicy edamame for the table. I have a low spice tolerance so I didn't eat it, but I got some Karaage and it was awesome. It was super crispy and the sauce that comes with it is delicious. I'd go back just for that. The ramen was also really good. I got the veggie ramen. Tasty broth and good noodles. I do wish there was more tofu in it. You get like one square on the top and that's your slab of tofu. I'd like some more cut into it too, personally. My friend got the spicy veggie ramen and I think the overall consensus for the people who got spicy ramen is that they'd like theirs to be a bit spicier, so they got some more sauce--sriracha and chili oil both to make it a bit spicier. Stopped by Hon Ramen on a Wednesday evening. It wasn't very busy and I was seated right away. The servers took my drink and food order quickly, though the process felt a bit rushed. I ordered hot water, karaage, and the spicy garlic miso ramen. The food came out fast (about 7-8 minutes). The karaage chicken was good, but the ramen itself didn't stand out as much as I expected. After the food was dropped off, no one checked back on the table. My hot water was never refilled and I wasn't asked if I needed anything else. The check was brought toward the end, and the only time I was asked how the food was came after I had already finished and paid. We've seen this place plenty of times while driving downtown and today we finally parked and walked in. The place is tasteful decorated and offers a cozy intimate feeling for personal lunch or dinner date. The staff was very kind welcoming and helpful with understanding some of the menu items. I picked the Spicy Garlic Miso. This bowl arrived looking so pretty that it took me a minute before I decided to disturb the noodles. They offer a choice of a soft boil or hard boil egg and of course I got the soft boil. This Ramen was absolutely delicious, the broth had that familiar Miso taste but offerd a little kick from the spice and a gentle roasted garlic under taste. I loved that they weren't stingy with the green onions and that the pork pieces were so delicately thinly sliced that they melted right in with the Ramen while slurping the noodles up. I ordered an extra side of bean sprouts only because I like the fresh crunch in my Pho and thought its gotta be just as good in my bowl of Ramen. This for me will definitely be worth ordering a second time. My husband got the Spicy Tan Tan Men with an extra egg. His was topped with some shredded pork that was so tasty that to me had the tasted of a mix of BBQ and a teriyaki pork. Once he mixed the sesame paste into the broth it elevated the taste to that Ramen to like 10 other levels. These Ramen bowls were so tasty that they didn't need the squeeze of lime like we sometimes do with a bowl of Pho, they we spot on as is. If you're ever in the downtown area and looking for something delicious to eat, give Hon Ramen a try but just make sure you check their hours since they close at 2pm after lunch and reopen for dinner at 4pm. read more

Today was our first time here. The restaurant was very nice inside and but very small. The wait staff was not very friendly from the get go. I chalked it up to maybe because it was busy and didn't say anything. We waited for a table and were seated fairly quickly but again the wait staff was not friendly. Seemed annoyed or in a hurry. I started to be annoyed but didn't say anything and ordered our food. The food came quick but during the entire time we were there we did not get any refills or staff to come back and check on us. So basically got our food and that was it. The roll was very good. The Hon Ramen had better flavor to me than the spicy ramen. Overall the food was good but not great. When I received my bill, I looked at it and saw they charged me an 18 percent gratuity tax because there was 5 ppl in our party. My 3 year old who didn't even order anything was our 5th person and for that we got charged 18 percent gratuity tax which I did not agree with. We didn't even receive service in my opinion because after we ordered and received our food they never came bak other than to bring me a bill. I will not be returning here. I have ate sushi all across California, Washington and Colorado and I really think Hon Ramen sushi is the top tier and is able to compare to the finest in those cities. Their servers are always friendly and fast. They have great Asian beer and sake choices. I am all about their octopus balls!!! I always get them for an appetizer (6 pieces) and tell myself to not eat all of them then fail every time! I will admit I think their dinning area is too small and not always so comfortable but they are located conveniently downtown.
