Came here by a recommendation and it did not disappoint! I was really excited to have the Dabang Dosa and it was my favorite - it's spicy, cheesy, soft with all the crunchy flavorful vegetables inside. As this is a fusion dish, it reminded me a bit of a rolled up but spicy/smoky pizza. I also enjoyed the tomato and coconut chutneys. My second favorite was the Bhaji Pav - you can't go wrong with buttery toasted bread and a warm, vegetable curry that was so perfectly seasoned. The Pani Puri was the perfect, much needed bite after a bit of the spice from the Dabang Dosa. It was refreshing, crunchy and airy - the tamarind sauce really topped it off a notch. The last thing we got was the Masala Dosa - this was my first time having dosa and it really is the all-rounder. I'd love to come again just for the Bhaji Pav and Dabang Dosa!! It was plentiful in portion - the filling was not even but if done properly it could be tastier. It came with samber which was too somber for me. What a fun spot! The decor is very bright and cheerful. Also, spotlessly clean. The worker was very friendly and helpful, as I needed some help with the menu. I had the Pani Puri, which were crispy puffs filled with potatoes and spices and served with several chutneys. Omg, I can't stop thinking about them. Such an amazing blend of flavors and textures! Weirdly, I don't like the food at other Honest locations but love it here. Not sure if this one does things differently. We often end up here after doing shopping in the area. There's even an Indian market next door so it's convenient to grab a bite to eat here after dealing with all that. The inside is clean and bright (including the bathroom). Each table is set up with a water pitcher, utensils, etc. You just go to the counter to order and seat yourself. We typically order street food type stuff here. We've enjoyed the pav bhaji, pani puri, papdi chaat, bhel, and probably a couple other things. I've also gotten a masala dosa, which was done well. I think the only thing that's been a skip for me is the veg sandwich. Maybe next time I'll try the Honest special grill sandwich. I am going to report this place to the business bureau for their shady practices. I gave this place two shots and it was worse every time) I dare you to try the food there and be impressed. - First, the menu is one of the most unexciting menus I have seen at any Indian restaurant. This would still be acceptable if anything was done well. - The food served here has little nutritional value and poorly made with the cheapest ingredients. You can literally taste the bad oil used in your burp. That's your body telling you to not punish yourself. Just look at the photos of pizza and the chaat.. I parked in the plaza lot and walked in. I gave the lady my name and she said it will take 10 more minutes which I couldn't wait so I paid and told them I would be back. I arrived after a while. We visited Honest Clifton place during our grocery run, the place is new and super clean. We were welcomed by Akanksha who was friendly and her recommendations were bang on. Food was fresh, flavorful and delicious, reminded me of streets of Bombay! We ordered: 1. Dabang Dosa (hearty crepe) - 5/5 - it's tasty and very filling 2. Vada Pao (Indian vegetarian hamburger) - 6/5 the best I've had in a long time 3. I come here for the masala chai as it's the closest in the area but I've always found the taste to not be authentic BUT, I still got it. I keep getting it and keep thinking it's not the best and just found out it's premixed / premade and dispensed from a machine! The audacity of this restaurant to not make chai from scratch. Uncle Electrick G. here again to give his honest review of Honest, a vegetarian restaurant franchise originally started in India, way back in 1975; a couple of years before Billy Joel released his 52nd St. Album. Over the past couple of months, some of my family members have suggested that I try Honest. I told them, "I don't care what you say anymore, this is MY life. Go ahead with your own life, leave me alone!" The family then suggested a detox from Billy's 52nd St. Album. Feeling shameful, I looked into the mirror and said to myself, "You had to be a BIG SHOT, DIDN'T YOU??!?" It was then that I knew I didn't need to wait Until The Night to tell my family I was ready to go and that lunch was on me. Located in the tail end of a strip mall, the restaurant looked like it was Half A Mile Away. We walked in and I was surprised by the classy ambiance. The layout was tastefully done and had great lightning. Quickly scanning the menu, I noticed there was a good amount of dishes that are mostly found in the southern part of India. Funny, the restaurant was founded by a family from the western part of India. What difference does it make when the person preparing the food is probably familiar with Rosalinda's Eyes? Our lunch was delivered, with some delay, to our table and looked good. Utensils weren't provided, but the table did have little bins full of individually wrapped plastic forks and spoons. I could be wrong, but I don't remember them having plastic Stilleto's, which would have been handy to cut into some of the food served here. Overall, the food was okay. One of my family members remarked that the sambaar had an overwhelming garlic flavor; that's not how sambaar should taste. The Rava Masala Dosa had a nice crispy shell, but was a bit too salty. Thankfully, not as salty as the food found at Darden Restaurant's authentic Italian chain (see my other review). And similar to Zanzibar, they'll even open a tab at Honest in case you want to order more after you've finished your meal and still have hunger pangs. English speakers know that Honesty means truthfulness. A non native speaker would look at that word and angrily ask, "Why the hell is it spelled with an H?" Regardless, a better question to ask is would Billy Joel eat here? As Fletch would say, "No never. Never." P.S.: To the Zoomers and anybody else who thinks Drake is real music. I made several references in this review to Billy Joel's 52nd St. Album. I strongly recommend you give it a listen. Warning! Samosa chat was bright with lots of fresh flavor, including fresh pomegranate seeds and julienne beets. It's frustrating how overpriced this company is already, but their food in Edison and jersey city usually justifies it. The price for food here is completely unjustified. Sure, the staff is nice - but they were missing multiple chaats, didn't have paneer 65, couldn't make a certain way of pav bhaaji and if I remember correctly, they had some issue with the pizza... lol we settled for the other type of paav bhaji and a pretty disgusting samosa chat. We only finished the food since we were there for roughly 2 hours and catching up. Naturally, we thought we could at least supplement the food with a classic Indian soft drink - thums up, limka or even Fanta... also didn't have it Frustratingly, we cut our losses and just asked for 2 cups for water. They said "no water, only water bottles ... At this point, we just laughed. Paid the ridiculous $40 for 2 entrees and 2 waters. Ate the equivalent quality of a run down Burger King for a well known establishment, and called it a day. The place was clean though, cashier seemed nice, and ample parking - but the sign didn't line up. Been here twice. The food is really good and the service is pleasant. The restaurant also smells nice when you walk in. It's a small but diverse menu so you should be able to find something. It's all vegetarian though so keep that in mind. Admittedly, their prices are a couple $ higher compared to JC .... but portion sizes are good for one person and most importantly, the restaurant is clean. I don't mind paying a little more for food that tastes good and is served properly/cleanly. If you are looking for the cheapest deal out there, this isn't it. But if you want good food at moderate prices, check them out. Takeout is available but some of the things like dosa will generally not travel well - don't blame them! Have to wait about half an hour for the food, which I understood being that they were so busy. Boy was it worth the wait. Great food, great staff and great service. We tried a bunch of different plates and they each seemed to get better and better. The bread and butter of this place is the Pav Bhaji, pun intended. It was the right spice and buttery goodness. The Dabang dosa was probably my favorite dish. It is a dosa filled with potatoes spices and Amul cheese. It's paired with a nice sambar and coconut chutney. The Mexican bhel was a fried delight of sweet and spicy. It starts off sweet and ends with a nice kick. The triple schezuwan rice is a noodle and rice dish that is paired with a manchurian sauce. The plate tastes good alone but the sauce adds another level of flavor. The pizza is topped with cheesy goodness. Don't be alarmed that the cheese is not melted, it's an Indian speciality. The cheese jam sandwich was also tasty.
