I can't believe I've never tried this place and have discovered it so late. This is one we're going to work in the rotation now! It's a gujtati restaurant, but surprisingly I loved their panjabi thali! Also this is probably one of the first times I got a thali where I ate everything on it! It came with Mango Lassi, Gulab Jamun, Ras Malai, tarka daal, rice, papadam, achar, sabzi, panjabi chole, an aloo sabzi and I got a choice of roti, puri, or paratha. I went with paratha. I was obsessed with the sabzi, and loved their daal. Reminded me of mum's cooking. We also tried their chaat and pani puri and enjoyed both! Would order again. Service was great, they checked up on us a good amount of times to make sure we got everything and that everything was good. I'm still pretty new to Indian food, but I thought this place was yummy. I've been wanting to eat pani puri for forEver and it did not disappoint! I believe we got the Dabang Dosa, and it was good but it was very cheesy and tasted a lot like pizza lol. I had the Punjabi Thali! Soooo good. Verify of a perfectly portion vegetarian appetizer, dishes, and desert also comes with Lassi. I got Mango one. All this for under $20. Enjoyed them very much. We get takeout food from here a LOT. My boyfriend is from India and he has told me time and time again that this hands down one of the best Indian restaurants when it comes to grabbing a quick bite to eat! He's very particular about Indian food because he lived there for 24 years so that's definitely saying something! I might add that I'm American and hadn't experienced Indian food until he and I started dating - but man, I was missing out my whole life!!! Our two favorite dishes from here are Bhakri pizza and Bahubali sandwich. Bhakri pizza is a fusion dish that is so delicious! I wasn't sure about it the first time I tried it because it does NOT look like the pizza I'm used to... But seriously, don't knock it till you try it cause now I'm HOOKED! Nice variety of Chaat items, South Indian delicacies and Indo Chinese food. Service is quick. The Rajwadi dabeli order is served in two pieces and is quite filling. The filling with fried peanuts is authentic but pomegranate seeds were missing. Raj kachori is extremely appetizing, well presented and a delight to eat. Hakka noodles are yum although too oily for my taste. They also have several flavors of kulfi and lassis available. Indoor seating is decent, no AC, just fans so it can get a little stuffy on a warm humid day. Plenty of parking available outside the restaurant. read more

We have been on the search for Houston's best chaat. We have tried Honest and Chowpatty a lot, and while they previously were fairly tied, with different strengths for types of chaat, at our last three visits, Honest has taken the crown.  We hypothesize there must be a new chef, but the Honest in Houston was previously not the same quality as the Honest in Allen - and now, it is as good (or maybe better?). The service is what is expected from a fast-casual spot; the lighting, the seating are not special. But as any good authentic Indian restaurant will have - Bollywood music videos are playing nonstop in the background, and the food is delicious. The dahi puri remains my favorite item, and pani puri my partner's favorite. This might not be the fanciest or the most presentable food you eat, but it will hit the way you expect it to. read more

Came for lunch and ordered dahi puri, sabudana wada and samosa chaat. Everything came out pretty quickly. Dahi puri was great! Great amount of filling and tasted good as well. The wada was a little disappointing. Missing flavor and was hoping for them to be more crispy. Also found chunks of potatoes instead. Samosa cheat also disappointing. No yogurt in the dish but the menu says they do add it. When I asked for more of the yogurt the gentleman at the counter said they don't use yogurt but it says on the menu they do. He did give me a small co.yainer woth the yogurt and that did make the samosa chat better. Overall I would stil come back and try it again. Definitely recommend the dahi puri. read more

First time trying this place as our usual one is closed on Tuesdays. We were greeted immediately upon entry and placed orders immediately. Ordered pani puri and thali. Didn't quite like the pani puri as the ingredients were kinda bland. Thali was ok but the yogurt kind was terrible with some dried bread. It was $12 and came with a small mangon lassi. They came by to check on us which is rare in this type of restaurant. Maybe we will try dosa next time. Just wish there are no cilantros in these dishes due to allergies. read more

This review is for Punjabi Thali. The vegetable offerings in this thali are a disgrace and this thali shouldn't be called a Punjabi thali. Corn - what is this doing in this thali? This vegetable has no place esp in a Punjabi thali. This is a lazy hack job of serving anything regardless of whether it makes sense or not. Paneer - probably the worst item on the thali, so much so that the corn would appear more appealing compared to this nonsense. This was clearly frozen junk that was microwaved to hell and served. Dal / rice / chapati - the only decent things on this entire conglomeration of oddities. Vegetable portions - could they shrink it some more and use even smaller dishes? Also when compared with some other Honest locations in the country, it appears Houston location is serving one vegetable less compared to others. My suggestion would be the following: 1. Don't call this a Punjabi thali as it's not true and it's actually disrespectful. 2. Honest restaurant was recommended to me by an Indian American gentleman who stated this is a really good restaurant. I liked the decor and wall of photos. It definitely adds character. The Thums Up soda and samosa with chutney were both good. However, if you order pani puri as takeout, the version you will get is a deconstructed pani puri with no herbs (cilantro), unlike the pani puri shown in pictures. It would probably take at least two more visits for me to properly assess the quality of Honest's culinary offerings, but I am definitely interested in returning. read more

Honest stood like its name- Honest . Food was great, never tasted such big happy soft round idlis in Houston before...I ordered idli like a snack, based on my numerous previous experiences and was in for a surprise- 3 shiny round hot idlis were placed before me ! Next came the Punjabi thali- perfect quantity. The panner sabzi, the mattar ki sabzi , dal, rice, pappad, lassi, acharand naram garam ( soft and hot) rotis were lip smacking. I never thought I could enjoy food on a full stomach before ;). Btw, the thali comes with a option of roti or parata. We topped it all with sugarcane juice which was also very natural and yummy. Not sure if we had to purchase water due to covid going on or what, but we had our juice and lassi so v didn't need any quenchers separately. I was craving for Chaat and I have heard so many good things about Honest and so wanted to give it a try. And I was thoroughly disappointed with their Chaat. The pav bhaji was good, and so was the Manchow Soup. I ordered sev puri Chaat and it was very dry. Sev puri is not meant to be dry, it is supposed to be smothered with yogurt and have it layered with green and tamarind chutney but instead this was served with a dry potato based and lots of toppings. I don't think Chaat is their specialty, maybe other foods on the menu maybe a hit. The next day both my husband and I had upset stomach from eating there. So be careful in what you order. A hidden gem in the Hillcroft area for Indian food! Tried the punjabi thali and the dabeli, and both were a 10/10. The punjabi thali came with sooo many portions + a mango lassi and dessert. An absolute steal (around $8 if I recall correctly). All the side dishes were delicious, but my favorite was the paneer curry. The mango lassi was sooo good and refreshing to take sips in between the spicy bites of the curry. I would recommend getting the thali with roti instead of poori because you get one more bread with roti. You could probably share the thali with 1 other person and it would be enough for lunch. The dabeli was also delicious! It is filled with a spiced potato topped with peanuts and pomegranate seeds. The salty/savory/sweet combination is elite. It also came with 2 sandwiches and can definitely be shared between 2 people. Overall, I would recommend Honest for your Indian food needs. While most of the staff were wearing their masks, some were wearing it under their noses, so not great. The staff is extremely friendly, patient, and kind, and you defintely see it's pretty popular because people just kept walking in - most wore masks, but given this in Texas, masks were suggested, not mandatory, so something to keep in mind. I've had Honest takeout twice now and I have to say, that the masala dosa here might be one of the better ones. It's a little more complex, more substantial - definitely one of the tastier dosas in recent memory. However, be forewarned that if you're vegan, you should mention that you don't want it prepared vegan and I think one chutneys does contain milk - so you'll have to clarify on that. As for the Ghobi Manchurian . . . it was confusingly weird and unlike any rendition I've ever had of the dish. I ordered it in gravy, and the gravy was a very thin runny liquid. I've eaten enough dishes at Honest to be confident in writing a review. The restaurant is a direct competitor to Sri Balaji Bhavan (SBB), Shiv Sagar, and even Chowpatty Chat so most of the dishes can be compared. For example, Honest clearly has the best pav bhaji out of the three especially their Honest Special variation, which feature cashews and raisins which sounds weird at first but works really well. Their masala dosa also feature cashews in the filling but it's not as strong as SBB and the sambhar they use is not as good either. Their punjabi thali is cheaper than but not as good as Chowpatty's thali. The thali gives you an overabundance of carbs that you run out of dishes to eat it with, heh. The mattar paneer was somewhat bland and so was the chana masala. The dahi vada was decent but it's not like there was any fire for me to quench. Honest does offer other dishes that are unique takes in that their competitors do not offer it. The Bahubali sandwich was humongous, covered with cheese and fries which made eating it a mess. It was delicious but salty. Their Dabang Dosa was inventive but also salty. Same was with their cheese masala pav with bhaji. You start to notice the common element is the Amul cheese they use which I discovered is a processed cheddar cheese. The saltiness of this cheese deterred me from ordering their pizzas. I like how they have different faloodas and their regular one was tasty. So overall, I think Honest has a good restaurant. The prices are higher than SBB or Shiv Sagar and comparable with Chowpatty.
