Outstanding experience. Sat at the bar on a Tuesday afternoon. My bartender was Justin who was outstanding. Taco Tuesday meant $5 for a select few tacos - I had the dorado taco (delicious - could have used some acidity from a lime wedge). 3:00 began happy hour (half price tacos and margaritas). Jalapeño margaritas are wonderful. I had a chili duck taco (solid), carnitas taco (great) and a queso carne taco (surprisingly tender steak). Great food and great drinks at a great price (due to both taco Tuesday and happy hour), but the main factor was the great, enthusiastic service from Justin. There were roughly a dozen customers and he never missed a minute. Even while washing dishes etc he was upbeat and joking with me and all the other customers. I will definitely return! read more

The food was absolutely incredible. The street corn nachos with chicken was out of this world. The Birria tacos were the best I've ever had. The service was HORRIBLE though. Our appetizers were gone by the time the drinks arrived. Our server gave us the "the bar is backed up" excuse, which didn't make sense given that one drink was a bottled soda, one fountain soda, a mocktail and a cocktail. Furthermore, several tables were seated around us, placed their drink orders, and had their drinks before our appetizers reached our table (both inside tables as well as those on the patio). I'm hoping the service issue was a lack of training, as it was not an incredibly busy day (surprising given pride was happening ‍). It was also mid afternoon so unaffected by any kind of rush. Terrible all around. My significant other came before and he really liked the scallop taco so he brought me to try the place out. We started off by asking our server, Lana, what kind of tequila they use for the margaritas, along with other than lime juice, if they use triple sec and/or sour mix. My s/o orders a passion fruit margarita with Lalo tequila. I proceed to order a pineapple and hibiscus tequila with their house tequila, Lunazul. We then order Patatas Bravas, a scallop taco, duck taco, queso carne and coconut shrimp taco. The food came out within 5-7 minutes from the time we ordered and our drinks weren't on the table yet. Mind you, it wasn't busy. There were only like 3 people at the bar. Patatas Bravas were lukewarm and no Bravas sauce anywhere. It tasted like regular potatoes with cojita cheese on it since they added sooooooo much. It was smothered. As far as our tacos, everything was overcooked. My shrimp taco was chewy and dry, the scallops as well. The carne taco was sooooo dry. Everything was just completely off. The drinks finally came and my s/o drink was good, mine, not so much. I didn't taste much hibiscus. One of our friends that was also dining with a party of 8 said she's been here 3 times and tonight was very off. Well, we get our bill and Lana, our server, charged us both for Lalo tequila when we only asked for one. I specifically said I was fine with Lunazul. I was so excited to visit but unfortunately I wasn't satisfied. The space is beautiful, the menu is unique, food comes quickly, and the staff is wonderful. However the quality of the food was a let down. The duck taco was dry, really stiff and lacked flavoring. The scallop taco had this cream sauce that was overpowering and really distracted from the entire bite. The tofu was amazing five stars! The shrimp was OK, but also had a sauce that wasn't appetizing. Some of the tacos had potato crisps, for lack of a better word, and they were also stiff and dried out as if they were old. I don't think I would come back, which is disappointing. But if I did, maybe I would just stick with appetizers and drinks. read more

This place was honestly such a great find. The tacos were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly put together. Every bite had great balance and you can tell they really care about the ingredients. One thing that really stood out to me was the seating. The Frida booths in the corner are the most comfortable restaurant seats I've ever sat in in my life. I could have stayed there all night. The atmosphere overall is fantastic. The lighting is mellow, the music is at the perfect level where you can actually talk without shouting, and the bartender was well-stocked and clearly knows what they're doing. Another bonus is the view. Looking out across the street at the park lit up at night is gorgeous and really adds to the vibe of the place. The only downside is parking, which can be a little tricky depending on when you go. But honestly, once you're inside and the food hits the table, it's totally worth it. The steak - carne asada on top of the nachos were a little too burned, perhaps, and cubes that are too small to notice that they were actually steak. My husband and I went here last night for the first time and I was very impressed! When we walked in, we were struck by the bright, airy and well decorated surroundings, the large bar with comfortable seats, and the spaciousness of the restaurant. We were seated at a table for two by the window and were quickly greeted by our server, Jill, who was awesome! We put in a drink order for the Rose Sangria (an excellent suggestion from Jill) and "The Coconut Milk is Off!!!" which was deliciously sweet and fruity. For food, we started with the Sweet & Spicy wings, which were cooked well and had just the right amount of heat. The wings are $15 for six pieces, so just be aware that if you are ordering for the table, you might want to order two. We also tried the birria tacos, which were served with consommé and were some of the best I've had anywhere, the carnitas tacos, the chicken tinga tacos, and the queso carne tacos (this one also turned out to be a favorite!). The tacos were all excellent, my only disappointment was that they were on a single tortilla rather than the traditional two. The taco fillings were generous, and they really could have used two tortillas. We were too full for dessert, but hopefully next time we'll try it. This is definitely a great spot for tacos in downtown, PVD, and it's also not far from PPAc, so it would be a great place for dinner before a show. read more

New restaurant alert! Yellow Door Taqueria just opened in Aloft Hotel in Providence & we are hot on the RI Food Fight #TacoMania trail. For our coupons, we received any two tacos (minus the scallop option). Hubby opted for the Birria (shredded beef, chihuahua + cheddar cheese, white onions, tomato broth) & Queso Carne (steak, oaxaca cheese, blistered bell, peppers, bacon + onion jam, habanero salsa roja). Both were delicious but the birria au jus took it to another level! The cheese browned on the flat top was crispy & savory, the taco was full of shredded beef & hubby drank the rest of the au jus! I selected the Chilled Citrus Shrimp (chilled shrimp, orange citrus mayo, red onion, avocado crema, lettuce, celery, fresno peppers, black sesame seeds; served in a crispy tortilla) & Chili Duck (chili bbq roasted duck, vanilla plantain purée, pickled red onions, crema, plantain strings). The chilled shrimp was unique & delicious - I've never had a taco like that before. I could have eaten like 4 without taking a breath! The chili duck was not my favorite, mostly because of the vanilla plantain purée - it added a sweetness that I did not like. I skipped a cocktail because I really wanted to try the YDT Churros: crispy fried dough, cinnamon sugar, dulce de leche. OMG! If you are out in Providence & want an amazing dessert, try this! I was 4 churro bites in before hubby even tried one! Crispy on the outside, the perfect 2-3 bite ratio & the dulce de leche was super indulgent. Must. Have. Again. SOON!!! I was excited to try this new and trending taco spot that just opened. The atmosphere is beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. The staff were friendly and attentive, and our 7:30 reservation for three was ready when we arrived . Their cocktail menu is impressive, with a good variety of handcrafted drinks. I ordered the lime and ginger margarita with a tajín rim, which was excellent. To start, we shared the Street Corn Nachos. The portion was generous and perfect for sharing, with great flavor. As for the tacos... they were tasty but felt small for the price. I tried the chili duck taco and the queso carne taco. The queso carne unfortunately tasted like cold BBQ sauce, though the homemade spicy salsa helped elevate the flavors. One thing that felt unusual was the serving style. Our table of three ordered a total of four tacos which arrived together on one family style plate. We just moved them to our appetizer plates, but it was a little awkward. I was here for an event with an alumni group from my university last week and this was my first time checking out this new spot. The taqueria was apparently overtaken by the Tartan Army, so they moved us to the next door, and apparently affiliated spot, High Dive. We were still served still served us delicious bites from the Taqueria, however. The food was excellent! Loved the guac! The various taco platters we enjoyed, including a vegan one, were super tasty. Service at the bar was nice. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming with a lot of mid-century photos and decor. My only slight criticism is that I was charged a 3% credit card service fee on my drinks and didn't see this disclosed anywhere. Generally when places do this, there are little signs, or the server tells you when you use a card, or it is somewhere on the menu. I was busy chatting with folks from my school, so maybe I missed it if it was disclosed somewhere on the menu, but I really didn't appreciate this. I gladly would have paid with cash had I known about this, but it's not very obvious. Still plan to return here but only bringing cash from now on. read more

We decided to try out Yellow Door this past Saturday, and made a 6:45 reservation. Upon arrival, we waited a couple of minutes and were seated near the bar. The interior is authentic feeling, cute and cozy. We ordered the vodka with pear syrup and bitters cocktails, wish I could remember the name or find online. It was a bit sweet but good overall. As a starter, we tried the patatas bravas, which had good flavor but tasted like they'd been waiting all day to be sold. My partner had the beef birria tacos. She said they were really good. I tried the mushroom barbacoa and tofu tacos. Both the mushroom mixture and the fried tofu chunks tasted old. They were both dry and congealed and were missing ingredients, no cucumber on the tofu and no crispy plantain strips on the mushroom. Our server seemed annoyed/irritated when we initially asked for bottled sparkling water and from then on, it was downhill. With regards to the margarita flight, if you don't like jalapeño margaritas, you cannot swap for a different flavor, as we were told they're all pre-made and switching out flavors would mess up their numbers for other guests. read more

I drove by this once, and knew I had to come back to try their food. It is a new spot, and conveniently located in the downtown area, with the pedestrian bridge right across the street. When we walked in, we were asked if we had reservations - we did not. I am not sure if they are strongly encouraged but it seemed like it was not too packed. We were seated at a high table near the windows but they also have bar seating, I think some booths, and regular tables. It was a Tuesday night, so they had some specials ($5 tacos) on a little menu along with their main menu. We were there for tacos and had some coupons, so ultimately, we went with the birria, coconut shrimp, chili duck, and queso carne. We had the sorry, busy mocktail, and the pink lambo cocktail. The drinks were very pretty, and tasty - fruity and fresh. The tacos came out after about 15 minutes. They all looked like they were made with love, very cute (a little small), and great presentation. The coconut shrimp was good. The batter was a little heavy on the shrimp, but I did like the sweet and spicy combo. The coconut flavor creeps in halfway, with the coconut shavings lingering at the end. The birria taco was average. There wasn't enough cheese but the meat was tasty. The queso and meat was Smokey and sweet. The meat was flavorful, although a but overcooked. The peppers were caramelized and soft and the cheese was crispy. The duck meat was tender, but it almost had the flavor of vanilla cake halfway through. Needless to say, this was the most unique one. The bathrooms were very nice. The one I went into had pink monkeys on the wallpaper and it was very clean. They do have other locations but this is the first and only one in the state. read more

I ate for the first time here today. The ambiance looks great, there's Mexican decorations around the restaurant and the wallpaper in the bathrooms look so cool if you're able to check it out. Service was great and they were attentive. My friend and I dined Saturday around 4pm and it was not busy. Came here for RI Food Fights and wasn't as impressed as I would have liked - specifically for the tacos. This restaurant felt more like a date spot with cute decor and intimate vibes where you'd get a couple of their cocktails or drinks. We didn't get drinks the night we went since we were just trying to sample a bunch of tacos for the food fights. Taco wise, we were not super impressed. Flavors were a bit bland, meat was overcooked, and just overall underwhelmed. They have fun fusion flavors on their taco night, which we were excited about. My girlfriend got the Big Mac taco, but it was like all the elements of a Big Mac in a taco, but not really cohesive with ratios that felt off, so it didn't really even feel that much like a Big Mac. The drinks were great! I tried the margarita flight and was very pleased with the classic margarita and the blackberry vanilla margarita. The food was awful. We ordered one taco each (different flavors) and neither of us could even finish it, it was that bad. Additionally, I have a severe gluten allergy and they were making an accommodation to what I ordered (grilled fish instead of fried), but initially when they brought me my taco, it had been made with fried fish and I had to tell them so that they could re-make it. I'm glad that I noticed, but because of that, I would not consider them food allergy-friendly and wouldn't risk eating there again. That being said, the waitress admitted that they were understaffed, so it's possible that we may have had a better experience on a different night. read more

We went to the Yellow Door today for the first time. We had a wonderful experience. We are vegetarians and our server was very accommodating in suggesting substitutions for various dishes. Really wanted to like this place. We waited a full hour for chips (no exaggeration) and were late to our show because the kitchen and bar was backed up. We arrived to the restaurant an hour and a half before our show and were still late. Took Over an hour to get small tacos. The restaurant was not even halfway full and maybe two couples sitting at the bar. Our server was very sweet and helpful. I really enjoyed yellow door! The tacos are pretty small but definitely delicious. Had the carnitas taco and shrimp taco. The shrimp taco was saucy and the carnitas taco had yummy refried beans on it. The meat was also tender, and juicy.
