We were going to the Comedy Connection and got there early. We stopped here which is next door. This visit we just went for drinks. Inside was nice with a large bar, high top tables and then some lounge chair seating. When I went to the bathroom, I discovered they had an outside patio with table and chairs. We ended up sitting out here and enjoyed it. The drinks were good but my favorite part was they have games to use while at the establishment. We chose the hook and ring toss game but they had cards and I think chess too. We did not have food on this visit but would come back to try it. First time here. A date night with my wife. I read the recent reviews. It was good enough for most of them - 4 on the average to commit coming here. There were a few 1s and 3s, and if you dig deep, they were not reliable reviews. Anyways, if you come here knowing that it is a bar and lounge with limited menu for food, but good selection of canned and draft beer, plus full bar, then you will be happy. We had the nachos with BBQ pulled bork, and lemon pepper dry rub wings. The rating for these are solid 4, not like the 3s some folks left. The only thing that prevents them from attaining 5 is the attention to details and care that it takes to make them true 5 stars. But again, this a a bar and lounge. I think it would not matter much if come here later in the evening, after you have been to dinner elsewhere, and want to hang out with your friends with late night snack and drinks. I thought the service was friendly but a bit relaxed, but again, if you come here to chill, being the "relaxed" atmosphere will not upset you. If you want a speedy and attentive service, this place is not it. We did enjoy the vibe though. Probably a good place to come before or after the show at Comedy Connection next door. read more

After reopening they are operating basically as a bar with no food of their own. The bar side is still intact with the dining room now taken over by Big Mikes bbq. So if you're at the bar you need to go over to the other side and order your food. The food was delivered by a Big Mikes employee with no condiments or napkins. So we had to walk back over to the other side to get what we wanted. We weren't offered anything by the bartender. The bar itself is nice with a lot of dark wood. The bartenders were friendly. One of the bartenders told us they are operating like a brewery with the food being a separate entity. Unfortunately I stay away from breweries because of that fact. If you're just looking for a few drinks this isn't a bad place. If you don't mind going into the other room to order your food even better. I would return just for the drinks. read more

Food and drinks were great! This is a fantastic location for dinner before seeing a show at the Comedy Connection next door, but the food was enjoyable enough that I'd happy dine here regardless. We decided to share a bunch of dishes and were happy with everything we picked. This nice neighborhood pub located in East Providence, near the Comedy Connection is cozy and welcoming. As we walked in, we noticed the nice bar/pub set up and the nice comfy couches. We were having dinner, so we were seated in the main dining area, which is just past the bar. The waitress was new, you could tell because she did not know how to answer many of the questions we had, but she was very nice and was ready to find an answer for us, quickly. We got two burgers and both were moist, nicely done...maybe the patties were a bit bland, but not bad. They came with a brioche bun and you can get the with salad, chips or fries. There's an easy access parking lot next to the restaurant and they take credit cards. We are going back soon to try some of their appetizer plates ! Black duck is a great spot! I've been here for brunch and for dinner. The bottomless mimosas are the perfect way to enjoy your brunch. I had a delicious waffle with fresh strawberries on top. The next time I came for dinner I had the chicken and waffles and it was absolutely delicious. The waffles and chicken had this warm syrup on them and the chicken was super crispy. Everything was delicious, however these 2 items were very heavy and rich. It seems that the whole menu tends to lean this way. Our only complaint. I would like to update my review! The business owner actually contacted me to say that he looked into my complaints, and that I should not have waited so long for a drink, so he asked me to return and give them another try. So I did! He was actually on vacation when I returned, so I didn't receive any "special" treatment, which is an honest standard for expectations, and I had a much better experience! Again, we only had drinks, but the staff was super attentive. The acting manager actually opened a cider for us to try because she hadn't had it yet and I was asking if it tasted like pineapple. I thought that was very generous! Drinks were good, and the staff were friendly (she was great, but I forget her name--sorry!) They also gave my friend a beer from the secret stash when he recognized them and asked about it. My favorite part about this restaurant is the outdoor seating area-- it gives me San Diego vibes. During covid19 I'm only comfortable with going to restaurants that have outdoor seating so I'm glad I discovered this place. I've visited Black Duck twice.. the first time was for Sunday brunch and the second time was on a Thursday night after work. The tables are super spread out and the waitresses/waiters wear mask which is great. The menu is simple with several great options. On Thursday night, we went out for apps and drinks and I ordered the loaded tots and spicy wings which were super spicy (our waiter warned us). Maybe 3.5 Stars. Love the atmosphere - super laid back, clean and contemporary with a bit of rustic flair with the big wooden bar and seating. Came with a girlfriend to have a drink or two and a bite. The waitress told us they were in the middle of transitioning into a bigger menu as they were just doing small "bar bites" up until now. It was a bit confusing as the menu on the website was completely different that what we were given - they only offered one flavor of wings vs 5 on the website. I ordered the pork belly, my friend ordered a burger and we split the whiskey wings. Wings were cooked nicely and flavored well, pork belly was just ok. It was very different from what I expected - not bad not good just somewhere in between and it was nestled on a scarce bed of lettuce. My friend had asked for medium on the burger and her words were, "It was cooked to perfection." It's hard to get a burger temp just right so kudos to the kitchen for delivering on that. She enjoyed her burger alot but wasn't asked if she wanted fries or chips and when the order came out, it was chips - she assumed it would've came with fries unless asked. We ate them anyways, they weren't bad but we were tempted to order fries after seeing every other burger order come out with fries. Decent crowd and good selection of craft beers (mostly in cans or bottles, very few on tap). The other thing we found odd was aside from food plates, we were given Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils to eat with - I know it's a dive type bar but the plastic is a bit off putting. Our waitress although sweet and friendly wasn't as attentive as we would've liked. I think she was trying really hard to tend to everyone - we were ready to order for a while but she was chatting with other patrons. It did get busier as the night went on. However, we were not given service until we asked the bar after about 20 minutes of waiting around. The staff was friendly and food was decent and came out fairly quickly. The black duck wall caught our eye as we were driving around the Providence area and when I checked the menu online and saw the beer selection I knew we had to stop in. I would recommend a reservation. We didn't have any wait and had a cool table behind the hostess stand and near the bar but I could see people waiting as it filled up as the time passed. Very nice decor and it felt like everyone was welcomed and a chatty waiter even came over to speak with us. I could see becoming a regular there if I lived in the area! Also, if you use the restroom be sure to check out the faucet. Not going to spoil it. They were only serving brunch when we arrived. I wish the lunch items had been available as I'd seen a few that I wanted to try but next time for sure. You have to scan the menu, easy enough. They have an amazing beer list - I mean seriously impressive. My dining partner tried Strawberry Birthday Cake. He liked it and I tried a sip - it legit tasted like strawberry! I got the bottomless mimosa. Price is amazing for that deal and it was a very nicely made mimosa. Great taste, just enough alcohol. I took advantage of the deal and had two. The menu isn't huge for brunch but does have a variety of breakfast and lunch items. My partner got the ancient grains bowl. That looked yummy as it had a fried egg, avocado, yogurt, spinach and grains. I went with the scrambled egg bowl which has a choice of ham, sausage and bacon and potatoes with cheese. I felt it was a bit overcooked. The eggs were just so so. The potatoes were good but there wasn't much cheese. I did like the sausage. Both portions were huge and very filling. This was the first time my friends and I tried this place and I was pretty disappointed. The place was very cute and I had high hopes for it. The food prices were pretty cheap and they also have bottomless mimosas for $9 which is a great deal! They give you a carafe to share with the table so you can fill your glasses yourself (which is super convenient). As soon as our carafe was full the waitress brought over another one. My friend ordered chicken and waffles and it didn't come out until 10 minutes after the rest of us had gotten our food (in a group of 6). The waitress only updated us once that the chef had overcooked the chicken on the waffles and had to start over. It then came out pretty undercooked - hoping he doesn't get salmonella from it. It's BEAUTIFUL inside! I loved the decor. That's kind of where it ended for me unfortunately. As the drink I got was good (Moscow mule) as was my SOs the service and food were lacking. There was what seemed to be a bunch of young adults behind the bar and all the did the entire time we were there was talk to each other excessively loud. Its was actually hard to hold a convo with someone right next to me due to the noise. The food... was ok. I ordered the shrimp tacos. The only thing I liked about it was the watermelon pickled cabbage. There was absolutely no other taste to it. My SOs chicken sandwich on the other hand was actually pretty good so there's that.
