I came here for my birthday brunch last year and it was wonderful! However this year was a different experience which is so upsetting. My birthday falls on July 4th which I know is already a busy day (I used to work at a restaurant, I worked Valentines day) and I know the struggle! However the service lacked and this place just isn't what it used to be anymore. It's completely lost its charm and friendly atmosphere. The food was great - no argument there. When I called 2 weeks ago to make the reservation, I was never told about needing to put down a credit card for a reservation. At all. The host didn't seem to know what he was doing so it was miscommunication on his end, but then it ended up faulting me + my party. And again, used to work at a restaurant so if I were told this, I would've done it without any hesitation. Was never told I would have to call and confirm (which my sister did yesterday anyway!!) but when I called the morning of to change the number of people attending, the manager otp was very passive in letting me know I never called to confirm and I never gave them a credit card. I told her nobody told me about a CC and my sister called to confirm and she replied with "yep but you never called back about it" ... ? I don't understand and the host never ever relayed any of this to me. She also said she would try her best to arrange a table if she could last minute and that there would be a 22% gratuity added to the party and no need to order at the counter since there would be a server. She ended up telling us to order at the counter after we sat there for 15 minutes with no service, no menus, silverware or water. Very confusing. Upon arrival as well (got there 15 minutes early) she was not super friendly (which again I understand it's a busy day, but still!). I'm usually very patient and understanding and never ever want to be a Karen in restaurant settings since I know how it can be, but for my birthday it was really disappointing. Pains me to write this review because I had a wonderful experience last year but unfortunately won't make my birthday brunch reservations here again. Good food though!! read more

I have been coming here for a while now, it's the one place I would look forward to dining at for breakfast if I were in the area. I was here during the week with my daughters and we ordered the California scramble, the Italian omelette and the veggie omelette.all of them were pretty good but not as good as I remembered. Portion sizes have gotten smaller and what used to be a generous portion of potatoes along with your omelette, now was just a very small portion. There wasn't really much in the way of veggies either, I had the veggie omelette and honestly seemed like I didn't even get all the veggies listed on the menu and it was pretty bland at that. An adorable cafe in a super cute and busy area right on the 101! There is a large menu to choose from, you order and pay at the door, then seat yourself. The Denver Benedict was wonderful, and the hot dirty chai with oat milk was super tasty. The pancakes and waffles are a bit on the pricier side, but very good and filling. The only food item we did not enjoy was the Salmon Benedict, everything on the plate was delicious except for the salmon itself. We stood in line and ordered and sat inside. The drinks were slow to come but it was a little busy so no worries. The drinks were actually really good when they arrived so that made everything worth it. Sadly that was all that was good there. We had a party of 4, and no one enjoyed the food they were served. The sandwiches were dry and unseasoned. The fries were cold and had zero salt. The chilaquiles were soggy and flavorless. Truthfully I loved the way it was before remodel, but things change. More updated and nice to see coffee carafes returned/ at least some of them, and the service and food are wonderful. I wanted a burger so we were headed for Hamburger Hut, but as we walked by Honey's we looked at the menu. They had a delicious sounding burger for a very comparable price, so we decided to stop there. Great ambiance with indoor and outdoor seating. Very gracious and nice waiter. The BURGER was AMAZING! I don't know where they're getting their meat but it tasted like literally a cut above. I can't have the bread or fries, and they accommodated me with a lovely little side salad. Came here for a late brunch on a Monday. We sat on their outdoor, dog friendly patio. We went inside and ordered our food. We both ordered the healthy veggie burrito and the pitaya mimosa. The food was brought out the same time the mimosas were, which wasn't the end of the world but I would've preferred the mimosa come out first. We came in 30 minutes before they were closing so I'm sure they we're trying to get out of there. The veggie burrito was super messy (the juice from the beans was super runny) and was just okay. There wasn't much flavor so we both drowned it in hot sauce. The fruit bowl on the side came with a wide variety of fruit and was yummy. The Pitaya mimosa came beautifully garnished and was delicious. The service was quick and they were very kind. Green omelette which came with a side of potatoes and toast The omelette was loaded with fresh asparagus, spinach, avocado, green peppers and onions and stuffed with feta cheese. Honey's Encinitas Valentine's Day Yelp review Who says Valentine's Day comes 1x year. Today, Valentine's Day, my car drove me to Honeys, a signature breakfast/lunch spot in downtown Encinitas. I have had countless wonderful omelettes, waffles, pancakes, burritos and more at this lrestaurant for over two decades. But something was different today. I ordered a green omelette with spinach, asparagus, zucchini, and other greens along with home fried potatoes, sourdough toast and unlimited fresh brewed coffee from their coffee bar. They say we eat with our eyes before we take our first bite, and so when my plate arrived, I took a moment and just stared at the food... food that I have seen dozens and dozens of times, but today for the first time it wasn't simply food. It was poetry. The swirling confluence of circles, topped with a fan of green avocado, edible flowers, salsa-painted, stripes across the plate as if this were an epicurean Michelin star restaurant. So what's a guy to do other than ask the server if they hired a new chef. They had not. And so I became curious. I asked if it would be OK if I spent a moment to talk to the chef about this creation and so, without hesitation, the server beckoned the chef to my table. His name is Alex. He along with the other chefs said they wanted to make today special because it was Valentine's Day and poured their hearts into each dish. I shared how much I loved the food, but this was next level. I asked Alex if it would be something he might consider to extend his Valentine's Day love beyond just today. He paused for a moment, knowing that the extra care and attention was something his team thought would be special for the day, but then came back with this: "Thank you so much sir for calling me to your table. I appreciate your thoughts and you know what? I will I continue to cook my food with the same love today everyday. And so it is. Be love. Feel love returned. Share love. Came here for dinner with the kids. They got burgers that were huge. Another got the Philly cheesesteak. Other than the kitchen weirdly forgetting to put cheese in the cheesesteak, it was great. I'd never been here before. Decided to just take stroll through downtown Encinitas around 7 PM, was hungry but nothing sounded great and I felt like walking more than anything. As I was walking past Honey's, a young lady was asking if I wanted a sample. She had some kind of crostini with goat cheese thing, which she offered and I passed, because I was more interested in walking. They also had a burger and fries displayed, which looked awesome and was priced at $14. She also recommended the fish and chips and other stuff, as well as a few other dishes. I continued walking, turned around, and walked in 20 minutes later. I ordered the burger and fries for $14. The waiter kept telling me the burger was his favorite thing on the menu; the menu is predominantly hispanic style cuisine. Let me tell you, the burger is a double patty with caramelized onions, tomato, lettuce, a side of "secret sauce" (which was clearly made from scratch and flavorful), a small skillet with melted gouda (which was crazy good and a huge amount of cheese), and generous side of perfectly made truffle fries with what I assume is melted parmesan. The fries were perfect, crispy crunchy on the outside and like mashed potato on the inside - perfect. I did not personally care for the strong truffle flavor, I felt it didn't really go well with the burger, but they were good enough to eat all of them. The burger, I have never had a burger like this; when the waiter brought it to me, he grabbed the skillet with gouda and poured it on. It didn't pour, it just kinda fell out and started sliding around. I grabbed it with a fork and spread it around, eating a huge glob that was hanging down the side. YUM! Never had a burger like this one before. It was not the best burger I've ever had, but it was awesome, truly epic. However, the places I have had better burgers charged A LOT more. I am honestly shocked at what a crazy good deal this burger and fries is. I'll come back and try something else in the future, but I would get the burger again at some point (I am on a diet and felt like cheating - no regrets). The burger has A LOT of meat and cheese, and honestly I've seen places charge as much for just the fries as Honey's charges for the whole meal. CRAZY GOOD VALUE AND DECENT FOOD. Oh, and the plates they served the meal on were really classy and nice, and I thought the water carafe was a nice touch, but I wish the cups were glass instead of plastic. So anyway, the place is a little quirky, but the vibe is good, the food is good, and the value is impossibly good. Wasn't sure if these were like promo prices to get people in there for dinner, but the waiter said he didn't think prices were going up any time soon. The place was empty, and of course a line out the door at taco stand a few doors down, and a decent amount of people next door the east village asian diner; well I don't think Honey's will be empty too much longer if they keep offering the value I experienced tonight. Seems like a smart choice for a date night too. I am impressed with Honey's and will return. Try them out for dinner! read more

This place has good reviews & my friend (who's a Encinitas local) highly recommended this place. I thought I was going to be impressed. The stuffed French toast was the best thing we tried, but still it didn't blow me away. The service was good & the pricing is reasonable & the place has been around for quite awhile. I really expected more out of this place. I wouldn't say it let down- per say, but I was expecting a really good spot & to me it was average. I wanted more water and some of their delicious jelly but couldn't get either of the two completely oblivious servers who continued to walk past - always looking away. The three of us were engaged in conversation but after ten minutes my daughter saw I kept looking at them as they walked past in hopes to get one of their attention only to get up and ask them herself in light of above. Although we'll come back since their homemade pancakes, hash, and more are excellent, it's a bummer that their service is so poor. Everything looks amazing and I don't feel I get up to North County Coastal area as much and finally made plans to meet a girlfriend for lunch/brunch. There were a lot of things on the menu I would have liked to try. I ordered a grapefruit mimosa and steak Benedict. Similar to what someone else said the register person who took our order was very helpful and upbeat. When we were seated it felt like people didn't check on you. My friend who ordered after me got her Chai Tea before I was brought my mimosa. I had to ask someone who didn't understand what I was trying to communicate that I had already ordered and paid for the mimosa and was waiting for it. It felt like awhile before it was brought to me. The food came out. Presentation was amazing, the bread beneath the steak was great and the potatoes were good. The hollandaise had a little kick. It was good, but not out of this world amazing. I feel like you don't get the same type of service or experience when someone isn't waiting on your and asking you how your food is or checking in. I tipped 20% at the register which didn't make much sense. Despite me feeling a little lukewarm I'd like to go back and try some other items. Came on a Thursday morning. The guy at rhe counter was nice and pleasant. Food came out within 25 mins. The food was ok, nothing special, pretty mid. My michelada came out 15 mins after my food, and it tasted horrible! They put it in a 18 oz jar, and only poured about 6 ozs of the beer in it. I know this because they brought the remainder of the bottle. It was the worst michelada ive ever tasted. This place has a great appearance, their food looks really tasty, but its not.
