Fun to stop when you are driving by on the 550. We have been many, many times. We really like the honey and the syrups and jelly. The kids like the honey sticks and the honey bear lollipops are soooo good. (Get 2) It depends who checks you out how friendly they are - some make you feel so welcome and some the opposite. They have a bathroom and the kids like looking for the queen bee in the hive that is positioned almost in the middle of the store. Used to be that the employee would always give the kids a free beeswax honeybee at checkout and they would play with that wax the entire drive home. This time when the kids asked for them the lady asked if we had a coupon or something for it. I said no and she suddenly said they didn't have any. :( read more

We were in Durango for the weekend and decided to stop by Honeyville, which was less than 10 minutes away. There is plenty to check out while you're there and the kids will enjoy it too. There's even a honeycomb inside that shows the inner workings. They have a decent selection of wine, mead, and spirits. They offer samples of just about everything they sell, including the alcohol. Prices were tourist prices, but still not bad. We walked away with a few bottles of alcohol, some raw honey, and a few other odds and ends. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area. read more

I've been visiting Durango for a few years now, and although I've stopped in Honeyville once or twice before, this past visit was the first time I took advantage of their free tastings of, well, pretty much whatever you want. The place has expanded since my last visit, and I was happily surprised to see they've begun distilling their own alcohol -- specifically whiskey and vodka. Ended up buying a bottle of both. The vodka is not sweet but super smooth, so perhaps the honey helps temper that raw alcohol taste. I usually don't like honey whiskey, but this stuff is good! Not to sweet and, again, very smooth. I think I'll enjoy it plain over ice. As far as other honey products, they have just about everything: jams, jellies, whipped honey, flavored honey, wine. All really good, although the wine is a bit to sweet for my liking. What I found interesting is that, other than the alcohol, Honeyville does not actually make any of the other products it sells. I believe they used to make some of their honeys? Well, now everything is outsourced, although I think it's all still local to the Colorado/Four Corners area. It's also true that you can find their products in area stores. However, the fun of going to Honeyville is the tastings, friendly customer service and cute gift shop. It's also located on a lovely stretch of road, with scenic views as far as the eye can see. So, if you're out and about for a drive, you might as well stop in :) read more

So much sweet stuff! This store has blended honey (peach, berry, etc.), raw honey, honeycomb, beeswax, meade, and honey whiskey. Ask to try the new honey whiskey which might lure you over to the "dark side", even if you usually detest whiskey. The meades are very diverse. Some are blended with fruit wine (strawberry, peach, etc.) while others are pure honey wine. Ask to try them since they range from very dry to very sweet. read more

This place has a lot of great honey but it's pretty far from town, it makes sense though for the good nature vibes. It was a pleasant trip over all and I got to eat honey comb. If you haven't tried that yet check it out when they are fresh from the bees! They workers were nice and told us some honey facts which was awesome, and I tried one of the honey wines and I was surprised at the taste at first, sweet then bitter but back to sweet, weird but cool. read more

This place is great. The prices are a bit high, but it's worth it. We used to live in the Durango area, and moved away 5 years ago. Fortunately, they have a mail order catalog and website so you can order their awesome honey. I always try to keep a "Baby Bear" of honey around, and the Blackbeary Jam is beyond amazing. It had been a while Honeyville. About 7 years to be exact since my last visit. At that time I was living in Durango and Honeyville was big, but not this big. On this visit last week I was surprised to find all the new products, wines, and flavors of whipped honey. I've always enjoyed the products as they are of high quality and are, of course, locally made. I especially liked the new mustard made in collaboration with Steamworks. Oh, quite delicious for sure! I like Honeyville, but my parents are a little crazy about Honeyville. While visiting, my wife and I picked up a few jars of the regular whipped honey and the cinnamon whipped honey for my parents. They live much closer to Durango than we do, but they don't ever get the chance to go and its been a while since they've indulged in the delicious nectar. Why the 3 stars? Well, its not for the quality or the selection, but rather the price. We paid almost $7 for a jar of honey from the Honeyville store, when the same product at the Durango City Market costs almost $2 less. I love supporting small business, but shouldn't the cheaper honey be at the corporate store? City Market didn't have the same selection, but they still had the traditional favorites. Honeyville, I am still a fan, but I won't visit your store if I know I can get the honey cheaper elsewhere in town. read more

Usually I mail order their delicious whipped honey but had the opportunity to stop in their store. They have a hive in the middle of the store so you can watch the bees at work. Picked up several varieties of honey including my favorite cinnamon, along with cranberry-orange and some green chile from the famous Durango Diner. read more

I am addicted to Honeyville honey and all of the varieties available. My excitement to visit Honeyville was certainly not matched by the 2 gals working when I visited earlier this month. When my boyfriend and I arrived, there was one other couple in the store and the workers did not greet us, ask us if they could help with anything; there were signs all over the store advertising samples of the honeys, jams, wines and liquors and despite my obvious interest, not one sample was offered. After putzing around for 20 mins or so and still not a peep from a single worker, I finally asked to try the peanut butter honey. The ice was broken and from that point we did receive mediocre customer service. I felt like the employees did not value my boyfriend or I as customers even though we avidly purchase products from this company year round. To be honest with you, you are better off finding your Honeyville products from a farmers market and purchasing it there - you will receive better service and prices!!! It seemed like ringing up our order was more of an inconvenience than anything. AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE FACT THERE ARE NOT BEES AT HONEYVILLE - I got a flyer from my hotel that said come watch the bees...so, once the ice was broken with the staff - I asked about the bees. Do you know what I was told? The bees were sold over 20 years ago and there are not any bees on site. What the heck?!?!?!? In case you cant tell I was disappointed by this visit - let me reiterate my feelings for you. No bees, unwelcoming staff, the advertisement to try honey and honey liquors is a false advertising ploy - I wont bee back. read more

This is normally one of my my absolute favorite stops in Durango. It was quaint, a ma and pa type feel... it was perfect! They have now expanded to accommodate the new distillery and it took away from the original beauty! The spirits are tasty but it feels too commercial now. read more

Went in looking forward to tasting some wines. Was thoroughly disappointed after waiting my turn in line only to be told that I needed to show a valid ID, after the last 3 people were not asked. And then the lady after me wasn't asked either! Now, mind you, I'm twice the legal drinking age (and unfortunately look it), so why the discrimination? Great little gift shop. Yes, a little pricey, but about what you'd expect at a roadside gift shop. Charming, informative staff dole out endless (delicious) samples so you can "try before you buy". I am from New Mexico and I try to get up there every year at least once. I love the Durango and Silverton area, would love to live there one day as well. Now I try also to stop in at Honeyville every time I am up there as well, and I have to say that I find they're prices are no more higher than any other honey producers that I have run across, even on the web! I find that they produce a very fine quality honey and yes many variety's as well, but I must say I am very partial to the raw honey myself, for I find the raw properties very beneficial to my own health requirements, perhaps that being just in the sweetness alone... However there is a most beneficial side to honey and it is most definitely there at Honeyville bee farms. And I say Honeyville Bee farms because hey they might get their honey from out sources, but it still is from that area so why not say Honeyville farms.. read more

I used to live in Durango and got to have Honeyville stuff all the time. Now I mail order it but it is still oh so good. I'm a jam guy and the Strawberry Saskatoon Berry Jam is really good. Just stick a spoon of peanut butter in the jar and you're good to go. Can't wait to try the San Juan Mustard and Honey Caramel Sauce next.
