    Hong Kong Buffet, Albuquerque

Prices are reasonable at this massive Chinese buffet and yes, I was hungry. I got my money's worth with plenty of protein, a trip to the sushi line and even some ice cream for dessert. Clean, good service, reasonable price. I'm happy and full. [Review 21083 overall - 130 in New Mexico - 46 of 2024.]

I will be coming back again! Great buffett options, very reasonable prices. I believed it was around $15 for the single dinner buffett and $12 for the single lunch. *Word of warning, it can get crowded and loud* They had some amazing octopus served as well as cheese filled mussels and a big pot filled with white rice.

They have a very large selection of buffet items, hot and cold, ranging from enchiladas to pizza to lots of seafood, chicken and beef choices. There are lots of veggies, noodles, and choices of Asian and Chinese delights as well. There is a large variety of dessert temptations too. What got me turned off was one patron getting ice cream who had bloody bandaid on his elbow, let it fell into the ice cream and the guy just left it there for the next customer to be disgusted! Ugh! Double ugh! I hope that an employee fished it out of the ice cream and threw the contaminated product away. The place was filling up, so I am sure others saw this as well. Yuk!

Gross. Everything on the buffet was dry and hard as a rock. Place is filthy and the bathrooms are even worse. Gave it a shot. Won't be back.

The area looks old and poor, but near the restaurant, we didn't see anything sketchy. When we were leaving, we did see some homeless people at the main intersection, but we didn't see anything we'd describe as sketchy. We did notice there is a mobile home park behind the restaurant, but there is a wall between the mobile home park and the restaurant parking lot. Even if there were police surrounding the mobile home park, we'd still venture inside to eat. The food is that good. We shared the cowboy breakfast burrito and the Santa Fe pancakes. Both were filling and ridiculously good. The Santa Fe pancakes made with blue corn, roasted piñons, green chili, and cheddar jack cheese were different than anything else we've ever had. I'll admit I didn't love my first bite or two, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. The pancakes are dry, but if you drizzle some syrup, it's the perfect match. The accompanying eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The cowboy breakfast burrito is massive, filling, and worth every calorie. Even though we were stuffed, we had to get the peach with green chile turnover. We asked if the turnover is served warm and our waitress replied that she could warm it up for is. I'm not sure that it is normally served warm, but I highly recommend it. The turnover flaky, the glaze was silky once warmed up and the peach with green chile was unique and delicious. Five star service and food. I highly recommend Vick's Vittles and hope that I'm in the area again so I can try more of this delicious food.

All new staff that clearly don't understand the restraunt business. Went in today for breakfast, seated in the back. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. Took longer than normal to get waited on. Placed our order, had to correct the waitress several time on our order. Waited quite awhile, long enough to need more coffee. None was coming so had to call out to another waitress to get more. Our waitress did come back to bring the coffee. Before she got there we were discussing the fact that the entire staff was new. She must have overheard us and took it as some kind of slight to her. Two minutes later the manager came over to inform us that we were being rude to her server and that she would be taking over our service. After some discussion my wife said, "this is ridiculous, guess we won't be coming here again" the manager said "well I'll cancel your order and you can leave now". We said we didnt want her to cancel our order and she just said have a nice day. So we left. Sooo not the Vicks Vittles of the past.

Yesterday we popped in on a whim and found it was one of the evenings that Curry Leaf does a buffet. One of the things that's really wonderful about this restaurant is - not only is the food wonderfully flavorful and of top quality; these folks can COOK - you find many dishes here you don't run across in most of the "cater to the lowest common denominator" Indian restaurants. At Curry Leaf, you'll find both northern and southern dishes. And if you go when there's a buffet, you'll find the dishes actually _change_ - and there are a variety of them, and they're cerebral. (Ever see aamrakhand on a buffet before? I never have - and this mango/saffron pudding is haunting my taste buds' memory this morning.) Yes, you'll find the classics well represented, but I've never seen goat chettinad on a buffet anywhere else in the US. I'm past the age of eat-until-I-can't-move, but the buffet at Curry Leaf was so good that it's the next morning and I already have a hankering to return. Oh! And I forgot to add that the tiny fried green chile for the sandwiches was the tastiest green chile this New Mexican has had so far this year! Ah, and the dosas are just wonderful - quite a variety - and included with the buffet (so are the naan). Curry Leaf also has a good variety of beers and some wines. Service is polite and friendly and omnipresent without being intrusive in a comfortable room where a group, a couple or a few friends can always find seating. If you've not tried Curry Leaf, you're missing out.

The staff is always pretty friendly and accommodating. I shared an app, a roll and an order of salmon sashimi with a friend on both visits. The food is always fresh, and delicious! I never feel like I am being overcharged for what I get either. Going to eat for sushi can feel like that sometimes. The quality of the food is great and everything is always aesthetically pleasing as well. I had their avocado bomb on my last visit and I was delightfully surprised with it. I like avocado in most cases, but sometimes, it can be a lot at one. I thought this was going to be like that when I saw it, but I was wrong. I look forward to getting one of these on my next visit! On my last visit my friend and I saved room for a dessert, one that we saw rotating on their screens that they have in the restaurant showcasing some of the menu items. It was a take on a bananas foster. It looked delicious but alas, we'll see if we can manage to get it next time. Note to self, have dessert first on next visit?
