Delicious food, big portions, classic hong Kong style decor. Service is not always too notch so don't expect too much. Menu has a wide selection for everyone so it's a great spot to go to when there's big crowds.
We hit up HK cafes every few weeks and it's hard to keep track of all the cafes. Similar names, decor. It's easy to get confused and that's what happened when our GPS sent us here. Looks legit so we went inside. Similar decor but is the food any good? We ordered the always popular beef chow hun, stinky tofu, pork chop rice, fried rice and a round of lemon iced tea with free refills. Everyone got a refill except myself. Can't help that I drink so slow. Iced tea was perfectly sweet and hits the spot. The stinky tofu wasn't the stinkiest but the texture is good and the spicy pickled cabbage was a good accompaniment. The fried rice was well done and the pork chop rice is always a huge portion. Which we always forget how big they usually are. The calamari was alright but the kids love ordering it wherever we go. Three large pork chops! Plenty of leftovers for the next day. This location is worth stopping by with plenty of parking.
Food is that pretty good. Comfort style Hong Kong Cafe food for sure. They offer everything you can think of if you crave this style of food. I ordered my favorite Shrimp and Egg on Rice, and it was really yummy. I don't like my food salty, and this was my style. Some might think it needs more salt, but it was just right for me. Beef chow fun (thick rice noodle) was better than I expected. Super tender beef, also seasoned nicely. Both dishes I would reorder again. Now the drinks.. we ordered drinks (iced coffee and lemon honey tea). While we were dining, the next table to us got a refill for their drink, So I asked the server if I could get a refill, no problem, got my refill. Once we were ready to leave and about to pay the bill, I asked the male server if I could get a refill on the tea. This server charged us for this refill. The female server was on break. So be cautious on when to ask for refills on these drinks... could be charged or it could be free. Not sure. The vibe is pretty fun and hectic, like an Asian diner vibe to the place. One star down because of the confusing drink refill charge thing. Yes I asked and the male server said there's no free refill. But I saw people get it, and I also got my first drink refilled free (wasn't on the bill).
I have been on a food adventure to redeem all 4 stamps for the Hong Kong Cafe (HKC) Freedom Passport. Spend $20 or more and get one stamp from each location. They have 4 locations. HKC in Rowland Heights was my 4th location. It's located in one of the six Puente Hills East blocks. Free parking was plentiful. Interior had good comfortable open space. Good number of seating. Had the Hong Kong vibe with very cool decor. Love the red and green colors! I came here with my Mom. We did take-out. Gentleman staff was super nice, friendly, and patient. Thank you Sir! I wanted the Seafood Hot Pot, but they didn't have it. Found out every HKC doesn't serve all the same food items. Skimmed through the entire menu and finally saw a few items that I would enjoy. My take-out order: 1 Braised Egg Tofu with Dried Scallops & Enoki Mushrooms - I indeed enjoyed this dish deliciously. It was so good that I wanted to drink every drop of the sweet and savory gravy. Must get every time. YUM! 1 Shrimp Wonton Egg Noodles in Soup - wontons were good size, pork and shrimp filling was tasty, noodles were al dente, veggies were tender, well done! 1 Red Bean Shaved Ice with Chocolate Ice Cream - my Mom got this one, she enjoyed it! 1 Red Bean Shaved Ice with Vanilla Ice Cream - I got this one, I enjoyed it, HKC Alhambra makes a better version of it though... their red beans are sweeter and softer. Yes, I got stamp #4. Yay! Yes, I'll be back for more of the Braised Egg Tofu dish plus to try their other specialty dishes. You know it! Yes, I'll be redeeming their half chicken at this location in the very near future. I'm on my way! Thanks HKC!
It was my first time at this Hong Kong Cafe location and I had a good experience. It's a lot smaller than the Monterey Park location and I think the menu has fewer items, but the food was really good. We ordered the sweet and sour fish filet, seafood crispy chow mein and wonton noodle soup. We also got lemon iced tea to drink. The sweet and sour fish had huge pieces of fish filet that were lightly battered. I love that you can actually taste the fish since the batter isn't too heavy. The sweet and sour sauce was also really tasty. The seafood chow mein was delicious and they didn't skimp on the seafood. It had shrimp, fish and squid and the bok choy was fresh and crisp. The wonton noodle soup wasn't the best I've had, but it was still tasty. I thought it was a little overpriced at $14.99 since I'm used to paying around $12-$13 at other similar restaurants. The lemon iced tea was so refreshing and not overly sweet. Customer service was a little slow, but they were really busy. It's also pretty loud inside the restaurant, so it can be kind of hard to get the wait staff's attention when you need something. Overall, I would return for good Hong Kong-style cafe food.
I haven't been here for a little while, but I have to say the food and service is exemplary! Our server was amazing, he explained to us the benefits if ordering from the Hi-tea menu. This kind of restaurant with everything outstanding keeps the customers keep coming back again and again! We were very happy with our lunch that we walked out with full stomach and togo to take home for dinner. It's telling you the portion was giant. Compliments to the Chef ! The lemon tea is my favorite full of flavor with a hint of real lemon. Sometimes they are nice enough to give you a refill. If you are in the area of Rowland Heights , must visit this place, comfortable ambience and relaxing with music in the background or music TV n big screen.
Never knew there was a HK Cafe in Rowland Heights as I still recall this space being a Taiwanese cafe? Time flies I guess. I believe they are related to the HK Cafe in Monterey Park and Walnut. Like with those locations, the place offers a wide variety of food including Chinese takes on American entrees. It's also decorated like HK street stalls and a homage to the game of mah jong. I got the baked spaghetti pork chops with tomato sauce and the pan fried rice noodle with mixed sauce. Both of which are super classic hong kong cafe meals. The spaghetti pork chops was flavorful, the pork chops were already cut for you, they were tender and fatty in the right places and went great with the acidity of the tomato sauce the carbs of the spaghetti noodles. The pan fried rice noodles has a small crispy skin but a chewy and soft inside. They also come with a mixture of what seams to be oyster sauce and peanut butter which makes them salt and savory. They were delicious, I just wished there was more of the sauce.
Does what it does well, both dishes tasted good, decent service. Would return! HK style is where it's at, the decor and setup does feel asian and unique but would recommend apart from that. Takeout pineapple bun with porkchop was a good snack but not sure - can't rate cause reheating and not fresh is a downgrade unfortunately
We came here around 11am Sunday and there was no wait but as soon as we sat down and ordered, the place was getting busy. I love the decoration of the place and the bowls and plates are so cute! We ordered a pineapple pork chop bun, congee and a fried noodles and some drinks and the portion was huge and the taste of each dish was good. The service was decent not attentive but expected at typical Chinese restaurants.
While visiting LA, we saw several locations for Hong Kong Cafe. As a fan of this style of food after visiting Hong Kong, we wanted to try what this place was up to. 1. Baked fish with tomato sauce over rice. This is one of my favorite dishes at a similar place in our home town. Sadly, this place did not offer the option for half-half tomato and white sauce (which is how I normally get it). Since I had to choose, I went with the "lighter" tomato sauce version. The fish was large and generous, but the flavor left only the hardcore favorite of the dish (me) eating it all by myself. Decent. 2. The Ong Choy (hollow stem vegetable) was pretty good. Solid job with the garlic sauce being not too oily, but they get cook the vegetables down quite a bit so its a bit on the softer side. 3. Honey Walnut shrimp was decent. The mayo level was too high and the shrimp, though fresh, was overpowered by the sauce. 4. French toast was disappointing. A bit dry. The butter and syrup comes on the side in packages. Not very good, would not recommend this dish. 5. The chrysanthemum tea was very fresh and not too sweet. My family did not like the fact that the blossoms are actually in the drink, but I enjoyed.
This has to be the best hidden gem in the area. Got there just before the busy lunch crowd. Flavors are just spot on and is a favorite among locals. Their servings are big. I wish they had a location in Orange County but we are willing to drive because everything was delicious. We ordered the salted fish fried rice, salt and pepper squid, French style beef and chow fun.

Love the decor vibe filled with old memories of Hong Kong. Foods are authentic and great qualities of HK styles just like we never left HK. They have so many options and delicious foods mixed with new styles . Free refill certain drinks. The rice rolls being back childhood memories. Absolutely a treasure. read more
We've been to their Monterey Park location before, and the menu here felt a bit off in comparison. We stopped by for lunch and shared a few dishes: Pork chop pineapple bun: the pork chop was much smaller than the bun, which threw off the ratio. Steamed BBQ pork buns: pretty standard dim sum. Rice rolls: these were a highlight. I liked the variety of sauces, and they were slightly pan-fried. Mapo spinach pasta: a bit too spicy for my taste. Salt & pepper squid: unfortunately, this was mostly batter with barely any seasoning, completely inedible. Hot bottled Vita soy drink: advertised on the wall for nostalgia, but what we received was a generic substitute, which felt misleading. Overall, I definitely prefer the Monterey Park location over this one. read more
I have been to other locations, and this is my first time at this new one. The cafe is located in a strip mall, with parking easy to find. The menus are similar to those at the other locations, but each location has its own specialty. I tried the steamed chicken, and it was delicious. The chicken here tasted better than the one I had at the MPK locations. The dish tasted better, and the way it is cooked makes the meat more tender and juicy. The service I received was attentive and polite. read more
So nostalgic and delicious! The inside is decorated really well, and there are lots of signs and art pointing to classic Hong Kong cafés! The parking lot is huge, so there's definitely no issue there. I went during breakfast time and there was a really nice breakfast deal and it was only an extra $1 for the lemon tea and an extra $1.50 for the pineapple bun. The congee was well seasoned and delicious, and the pineapple bun was very crispy with melted butter inside. read more
We usually visit other branches, so when we found out this location had opened in Rowland Heights, we were excited to give it a try. We stopped by on a Saturday around 2:30 PM--perfect timing, as it wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. We ordered the Chow Fun with Shrimp & Egg and the Ovaltine Toast. The Chow Fun came in a very generous portion, easily enough for two people, and the flavors were spot on. As always, the decor is stylish and consistently well-maintained, which adds to the overall experience. Definitely a spot worth recommending--this Hong Kong café delivers the same quality across all locations. read more
I came back to Hong Kong Cafe to try new dishes. The beef porridge, tofu with enoki mushroom, beef-egg-tomato and curry beef brisket were savory and delicious. The staff were attentive and helpful. The ambiance is bright, cozy, airy and full of decor that remind you of Hong Kong. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! read more

We loved the food from here! Mrs. fancies steak prepared and served like this! Ian loved his sausage fried rice. Indonesian Fried Rice could be spicier. I would not mind. *Laughs* All of us enjoyed the popcorn Chixken. Pork Sumai was served piping hot, and had a lot of flavors inside. We had lot of leftovers. Tasty food. Generous portions. Really a vibe and food was something you'd expect from a hong kong style cafe! I have never been to hong kong, but if i had to guess, it'd be something similar to this location! Really enjoyed my cream sauce baked chicken over rice. Add some black pepper sauce to that thing, and boy, you got yourself a heart warming meal. The black pepper sauce on the side did cost a little extra, but i'm a sucker for that sauce. Parking was shared and there's plenty of it. Service was friendly! read more

Spotted this place when visiting the plaza and decided to try it out. The staff were great. They immediately greeted us upon arrival asking how many in our party and seated us immediately. Their menu was clear and loads of food options to pick from. The food came out fresh, hot, and ready to be devoured. I ordered their wonton noodle soup and the wontons were juicy, the noodles were bouncy and the soup was super flavorful. Their salt and pepper chicken wings were really good and savory. The vibe inside was really chill. They had KTV songs playing on their screens and you can sing along if you know the songs. The decorations made me feel like I was back in Hong Kong cafes with a hint of KTV. Absolutely love it and cannot wait to return to try more dishes. Highly recommend. read more
Came here to get some work done for ~2 hours and eat some comfort food, I wasn't bothered for having a laptop although it is a bit noisy because most people are there eating normally. The service was ok, you have to wave them down if you want anything, it took about 20 minutes for me to get my food, though the drink came earlier. The hong kong coffee did not really taste like hong kong coffee to me, it was very watery with a hint of the hong kong coffee taste. The eggs buns were ok, and the sticky rice was not bad. Price wise, both were $6.5 each, so pretty good value for your food. I enjoyed my time here, but I probably wouldn't come back. read more

Dined in with a group of 7 people and 1 toddler for dinner on a weeknight. Parking: Plenty of parking Food: The food was delicious! I would definitely come back and it isn't bad for a HK cafe. I am used to the places in Alhambra / Monterey Park, but this is good in Rowland Heights. We ordered: - minced pork and fried egg fried rice - 4.5/5, very flavorful! Not dry at all and good balance with meat and egg mixed in - bo law Bun - 4/5, not bad. Tastes pretty average to me - chicken steak - 5/5, really good! It was fresh and tasty! I would definitely order this again if I came back! - chicken curry - 4/5, good flavor! Not too salty and a good amount of meat Overall, I would come back again! The food was delicious here and pretty reasonable for the pricing. It is really Carb heavy though. read more

Stopped in for lunch and ordered the sizzling chicken pot and the beef chow fun. The sizzling chicken pot was a bit of a surprise- the chicken had bones in it and the dish also came with pork and sausage. It was still edible, but we were expecting a dish with just chicken. The beef chow fun was okay, though it felt like it was lacking a bit of flavor. Service was pretty typical for a busy Chinese restaurant-quick and efficient, though not particularly attentive. The place itself was packed and had that lively, chaotic buzz you often find in popular spots. The standout deal for me was definitely the $1.99 tea. read more

We came to this location for the first time. We ordered a chicken plate and a pork & chicken combo plate. They both came with a choice of spaghetti or rice. It also served with corn. No soup or salad. Service is basic. You ordered and they served you the food. While was waiting by the restroom, I saw the lady dumping the milk tea filter in the trash can and the filter touched the trash can then continue to proceed to use it again to filter new tea. She didn't even wash it. I am glad I didn't get any tea here this time. Food is good here. Plenty of parking. read more
This place is a hit and miss when it comes to the doness of your steak. This time it was a hit! More on the rare side, but still very tender. The black pepper sauce is also the best in the area. read more

I would give this restaurant an overall 3.5 stars. 4 stars for the food; 2.5 stars for service. I ordered two dishes: (1) pork chops and (2) baked sole with white sauce over fried rice. When the entrees came, we started eating and didn't realized they gave us chicken instead of pork chops until we already sliced up the meat and took a bite. So we decided to just keep the dish instead of returning it. The food tasted good. It is not exceptional. It tasted as expected. A solid 4 stars for the food. We also ordered one hot lemon tea and one iced Lemon tea with our meal. Unlike many Hong Kong style cafes which includes hot coffee or tea with an entree, this restaurant charges additional fee for the drinks. The drinks tasted fine, as expected. It would be pretty tough to mess up tea with lemon. The service staff were not particularly friendly. They looked like they were not happy to be there. However they get the job done (albeit they gave us chicken instead of pork chops). It would have been nice to get service with a smile instead of giving the customers a feeling of not caring whether we are there or not. read more
The decoration of this restaurant is very cool, with all the signs and characters that reminded us of Hong Kong. The food is definitely very good and comes in large portions. I liked all of the food we ordered and have no complaints food-wise. However, the service here basically doesn't exist. No one checked in on us, and no water was refilled. I had to glare at the waitress three times for her to understand the cue: "Hey, we need water." It had been more than 20 minutes since we sat down and ordered our food! At the time of checkout, the waitress saw the card out but didn't even come to collect our payment until we waved her down. This has to be the worst service we have ever encountered at an Asian restaurant. read more

With that said, I came here this week on a Tuesday night and the guy's service was definitely a lot better than the ones I've seen for breakfast. While Hong Kong Cafe isn't my GO TO spot, my Singaporean Style Sauteed Vermicelli always does it job and its a big plate of food. If the service is at least the level of the guy, I prob would come back a little more often. For the most part, I haven't really had any bad dishes too and that speaks for breakfast as well. They have a wide selection as like any other HK style place and it's just easy and close to my house. I'll be back every so often. read more
This place is super cute, with nostalgic Hong Kong-style décor and is charmingly chaotic. It's a very popular spot and seemingly always busy. You check in on the kiosk and must be vigilant in making sure you don't get passed up. On our most recent visit, we invited a friend to join us and ordered the pan-fried rice noodle rolls, Hainan chicken, chow fun, beef fried rice, deep-fried spare ribs with garlic, and a few teas. The pan-fried rice noodle rolls were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, served with a very sweet sauce. The Hainan chicken was meaty, tender, and definitely the highlight of the meal. The chow fun and beef fried rice were classic comfort dishes that hit the spot. The garlic spare ribs had great flavor, though they were a bit light on meat.
