While visiting LA, we saw several locations for Hong Kong Cafe. As a fan of this style of food after visiting Hong Kong, we wanted to try what this place was up to. 1. Baked fish with tomato sauce over rice. This is one of my favorite dishes at a similar place in our home town. Sadly, this place did not offer the option for half-half tomato and white sauce (which is how I normally get it). Since I had to choose, I went with the "lighter" tomato sauce version. The fish was large and generous, but the flavor left only the hardcore favorite of the dish (me) eating it all by myself. Decent. 2. The Ong Choy (hollow stem vegetable) was pretty good. Solid job with the garlic sauce being not too oily, but they get cook the vegetables down quite a bit so its a bit on the softer side. 3. Honey Walnut shrimp was decent. The mayo level was too high and the shrimp, though fresh, was overpowered by the sauce. 4. French toast was disappointing. A bit dry. The butter and syrup comes on the side in packages. Not very good, would not recommend this dish. 5. The chrysanthemum tea was very fresh and not too sweet. My family did not like the fact that the blossoms are actually in the drink, but I enjoyed.
This has to be the best hidden gem in the area. Got there just before the busy lunch crowd. Flavors are just spot on and is a favorite among locals. Their servings are big. I wish they had a location in Orange County but we are willing to drive because everything was delicious. We ordered the salted fish fried rice, salt and pepper squid, French style beef and chow fun.
Came for lunch not too busy today. Food and service is alway the best. I asked for less salt but still a bit salty to my taste, may be the msg? TV for soccer enthusiasts and songs to enjoy the atmosphere lol ~ whichever suits you !
Love the decor vibe filled with old memories of Hong Kong. Foods are authentic and great qualities of HK styles just like we never left HK. They have so many options and delicious foods mixed with new styles . Free refill certain drinks. The rice rolls being back childhood memories. Absolutely a treasure.
We've been to their Monterey Park location before, and the menu here felt a bit off in comparison. We stopped by for lunch and shared a few dishes: Pork chop pineapple bun: the pork chop was much smaller than the bun, which threw off the ratio. Steamed BBQ pork buns: pretty standard dim sum. Rice rolls: these were a highlight. I liked the variety of sauces, and they were slightly pan-fried. Mapo spinach pasta: a bit too spicy for my taste. Salt & pepper squid: unfortunately, this was mostly batter with barely any seasoning, completely inedible. Hot bottled Vita soy drink: advertised on the wall for nostalgia, but what we received was a generic substitute, which felt misleading. Overall, I definitely prefer the Monterey Park location over this one.
I came back to Hong Kong Cafe to try new dishes. The beef porridge, tofu with enoki mushroom, beef-egg-tomato and curry beef brisket were savory and delicious. The staff were attentive and helpful. The ambiance is bright, cozy, airy and full of decor that remind you of Hong Kong. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant!
I have been to other locations, and this is my first time at this new one. The cafe is located in a strip mall, with parking easy to find. The menus are similar to those at the other locations, but each location has its own specialty. I tried the steamed chicken, and it was delicious. The chicken here tasted better than the one I had at the MPK locations. The dish tasted better, and the way it is cooked makes the meat more tender and juicy. The service I received was attentive and polite.
So nostalgic and delicious! The inside is decorated really well, and there are lots of signs and art pointing to classic Hong Kong cafés! The parking lot is huge, so there's definitely no issue there. I went during breakfast time and there was a really nice breakfast deal and it was only an extra $1 for the lemon tea and an extra $1.50 for the pineapple bun. The congee was well seasoned and delicious, and the pineapple bun was very crispy with melted butter inside.
Came here to get some work done for ~2 hours and eat some comfort food, I wasn't bothered for having a laptop although it is a bit noisy because most people are there eating normally. The service was ok, you have to wave them down if you want anything, it took about 20 minutes for me to get my food, though the drink came earlier. The hong kong coffee did not really taste like hong kong coffee to me, it was very watery with a hint of the hong kong coffee taste. The eggs buns were ok, and the sticky rice was not bad. Price wise, both were $6.5 each, so pretty good value for your food. I enjoyed my time here, but I probably wouldn't come back.

We stopped by on a Saturday around 2:30 PM--perfect timing, as it wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. We ordered the Chow Fun with Shrimp & Egg and the Ovaltine Toast. The Chow Fun came in a very generous portion, easily enough for two people, and the flavors were spot on. As always, the decor is stylish and consistently well-maintained, which adds to the overall experience. Definitely a spot worth recommending--this Hong Kong café delivers the same quality across all locations.
Really a vibe and food was something you'd expect from a hong kong style cafe! I have never been to hong kong, but if i had to guess, it'd be something similar to this location! Really enjoyed my cream sauce baked chicken over rice. Add some black pepper sauce to that thing, and boy, you got yourself a heart warming meal. The black pepper sauce on the side did cost a little extra, but i'm a sucker for that sauce. Parking was shared and there's plenty of it. Service was friendly!
We loved the food from here! Mrs. fancies steak prepared and served like this! Ian loved his sausage fried rice. Indonesian Fried Rice could be spicier. I would not mind. *Laughs* All of us enjoyed the popcorn Chixken. Pork Sumai was served piping hot, and had a lot of flavors inside. We had lot of leftovers. Tasty food. Generous portions. Festive atmosphere. Must check this restaurant out!
This place is a hit and miss when it comes to the doness of your steak. This time it was a hit! More on the rare side, but still very tender. The black pepper sauce is also the best in the area.
Does what it does well, both dishes tasted good, decent service. Would return! HK style is where it's at, the decor and setup does feel asian and unique but would recommend apart from that. Takeout pineapple bun with porkchop was a good snack but not sure - can't rate cause reheating and not fresh is a downgrade unfortunately read more
I got the baked spaghetti pork chops with tomato sauce and the pan fried rice noodle with mixed sauce. Both of which are super classic hong kong cafe meals. The spaghetti pork chops was flavorful, the pork chops were already cut for you, they were tender and fatty in the right places and went great with the acidity of the tomato sauce the carbs of the spaghetti noodles. The pan fried rice noodles has a small crispy skin but a chewy and soft inside. They also come with a mixture of what seams to be oyster sauce and peanut butter which makes them salt and savory. They were delicious, I just wished there was more of the sauce. read more
We came here around 11am Sunday and there was no wait but as soon as we sat down and ordered, the place was getting busy. I love the decoration of the place and the bowls and plates are so cute! We ordered a pineapple pork chop bun, congee and a fried noodles and some drinks and the portion was huge and the taste of each dish was good. The service was decent not attentive but expected at typical Chinese restaurants. read more

I wish they had a location in Orange County but we are willing to drive because everything was delicious. Dined in with a group of 7 people and 1 toddler for dinner on a weeknight. Parking: Plenty of parking Food: The food was delicious! I would definitely come back and it isn't bad for a HK cafe. I am used to the places in Alhambra / Monterey Park, but this is good in Rowland Heights. We ordered: - minced pork and fried egg fried rice - 4.5/5, very flavorful! Not dry at all and good balance with meat and egg mixed in - bo law Bun - 4/5, not bad. Tastes pretty average to me - chicken steak - 5/5, really good! It was fresh and tasty! I would definitely order this again if I came back! - chicken curry - 4/5, good flavor! Not too salty and a good amount of meat Overall, I would come back again! The food was delicious here and pretty reasonable for the pricing. It is really Carb heavy though. read more
Stopped in for lunch and ordered the sizzling chicken pot and the beef chow fun. The sizzling chicken pot was a bit of a surprise- the chicken had bones in it and the dish also came with pork and sausage. It was still edible, but we were expecting a dish with just chicken. The beef chow fun was okay, though it felt like it was lacking a bit of flavor. Service was pretty typical for a busy Chinese restaurant-quick and efficient, though not particularly attentive. The place itself was packed and had that lively, chaotic buzz you often find in popular spots. The standout deal for me was definitely the $1.99 tea. read more
We came to this location for the first time. We ordered a chicken plate and a pork & chicken combo plate. They both came with a choice of spaghetti or rice. It also served with corn. No soup or salad. Service is basic. You ordered and they served you the food. While was waiting by the restroom, I saw the lady dumping the milk tea filter in the trash can and the filter touched the trash can then continue to proceed to use it again to filter new tea. She didn't even wash it. I am glad I didn't get any tea here this time. Food is good here. Plenty of parking. read more
I would give this restaurant an overall 3.5 stars. 4 stars for the food; 2.5 stars for service. I ordered two dishes: (1) pork chops and (2) baked sole with white sauce over fried rice. When the entrees came, we started eating and didn't realized they gave us chicken instead of pork chops until we already sliced up the meat and took a bite. So we decided to just keep the dish instead of returning it. The food tasted good. It is not exceptional. It tasted as expected. A solid 4 stars for the food. We also ordered one hot lemon tea and one iced Lemon tea with our meal. Unlike many Hong Kong style cafes which includes hot coffee or tea with an entree, this restaurant charges additional fee for the drinks. The drinks tasted fine, as expected. It would be pretty tough to mess up tea with lemon. The service staff were not particularly friendly. They looked like they were not happy to be there. However they get the job done (albeit they gave us chicken instead of pork chops). It would have been nice to get service with a smile instead of giving the customers a feeling of not caring whether we are there or not. read more
Honestly service can be better but it does its job and for the most part the food is pretty good. With that said, I came here this week on a Tuesday night and the guy's service was definitely a lot better than the ones I've seen for breakfast. While Hong Kong Cafe isn't my GO TO spot, my Singaporean Style Sauteed Vermicelli always does it job and its a big plate of food. If the service is at least the level of the guy, I prob would come back a little more often. For the most part, I haven't really had any bad dishes too and that speaks for breakfast as well. They have a wide selection as like any other HK style place and it's just easy and close to my house. I'll be back every so often. read more
The decoration of this restaurant is very cool, with all the signs and characters that reminded us of Hong Kong. The food is definitely very good and comes in large portions. I liked all of the food we ordered and have no complaints food-wise. However, the service here basically doesn't exist. No one checked in on us, and no water was refilled. I had to glare at the waitress three times for her to understand the cue: "Hey, we need water." It had been more than 20 minutes since we sat down and ordered our food! At the time of checkout, the waitress saw the card out but didn't even come to collect our payment until we waved her down. This has to be the worst service we have ever encountered at an Asian restaurant. read more
This place is super cute, with nostalgic Hong Kong-style décor and is charmingly chaotic. It's a very popular spot and seemingly always busy. You check in on the kiosk and must be vigilant in making sure you don't get passed up. On our most recent visit, we invited a friend to join us and ordered the pan-fried rice noodle rolls, Hainan chicken, chow fun, beef fried rice, deep-fried spare ribs with garlic, and a few teas. The pan-fried rice noodle rolls were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, served with a very sweet sauce. The Hainan chicken was meaty, tender, and definitely the highlight of the meal. The chow fun and beef fried rice were classic comfort dishes that hit the spot. The garlic spare ribs had great flavor, though they were a bit light on meat. Overall, we had a great meal and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. A great spot when you're craving classic HK café flavors. read more

The food was really tasty and comforting! My favorite was the steak and the chow mein. The HB sauce for the steak was delicious and the chow mein had thinner noodles than I was expecting but still so tasty. Popcorn chicken was a bit too salty and the walnut shrimp was good but nothing special. Overall would come back. Love vibes of the restaurant. read more
I needed a breakfast spot that was open early (8am), and this place came in clutch. I loved that they offer a breakfast combo that includes porridge, a choice of another item (Chinese donut, chow mein, or pineapple bun), and a drink, all for around $13. To be fair, the food wasn't anything mind-blowing, but it delivered simple, classic, and comforting flavors. Here are my thoughts on each item: Chow Mein - Simple noodles that aren't overly seasoned. Nothing fancy, but a nice complement to the meal. (4/5) Preserved Egg Porridge - Tasty, clean, and comforting with decent chunks of meat. (4.5/5) Pineapple Bun - A large bun topped with a generous slab of butter. Simple and satisfying. (4/5) For the price, it's a total win, and it's rare to find a full breakfast under $15 these days. This used to be where MJs was! Love that there is a legit HK cafe here. Service is fast and efficient, food was great. This location was better than the one in Walnut, Chicken steak was juicy and large. I always order it with black pepper sauce. Didn't get baked pork chop rice this time, but tried their popcorn chicken. It was tender with a good savory flavor. Free refills on milk teas, iced teas, but not on sodas. read more
This is the best Hong Kong restaurant I've tried. One of things that really sets it apart is the feeling of being in Hong Kong with the retro neon signs. They also play music videos from HK. The place I would imagine for those from HK gives a home away home feel. HK cafe has a great selection of drinks. I think had a passion fruit tea and it was great. Food wise I like the shareable plates at affordable price. I went with my in laws and family and ordered around 3 entrees along with rice and it was enough to feed a party of 5 and we still had some left overs. We had the beef chow mein, orange chicken and beef fried rice. This is now my favorite place for HK food, not only for the food, but the experience. read more

Sauce - 5* - pictured Tasty seafood mix with the breath of the wok. Served with white rice. Hit the spot. Hot pot - Taiwanese spicy broth with beef - 5* - pictured Very unique broth. Spicy and a Little floral. Fish balls, veggies, a little beef, served with vermicelli. Very tasty and delicious. Seafood chow fun - pictured - 4* This was good, but the proportion of noodles to seafood was off. Lots of noodles, little seafood mix. All in all tasty. I asked for it crispy (Hong Kong style) but they said they couldn't do that. Hmm. Garlic sauce - 5* - pictured Meant for the hot pot. But we used it on several things. Great addition. Orange chicken - 4* All in all good. Crispy and well seasoned, just a little off on flavor. BBQ pork bao - 4* I'm. I'm not a a bao fan, but these were good. Small mount of pork, lots of bao. I wanted the two other dim sum options, but they were sold out. Service was good. You had to keep getting their attention for everything, but they were responsive once you could flag them down each time. Ambiance was kingpin of flashy and little hip. It was clean and well lit. The decor of this place makes you feel like you are in Hong Kong complete with the red phone booth when it was under British colony. However, the selection of dish is out of the ordinary wherein they cook a modern day take of the traditional cuisines & still maintain the distinct Chinese flavor that everyone likes. As far as service, they are quick despite the language barrier. In a way, it gives it more of an authentic feel of being in HK. As for the price point, they give you value by serving big portions & not skimping on the protein mix-ins. Why four stars because we need to try their other dishes. We will try them when we come back & assess it again. read more
I wanted to take my 2 year old son to Chuck E Cheese to try something different, and also saw that there was a Hong Kong Cafe in the same strip mall that the Chuck E Cheese was located. I love Hong Kong cuisine, so I decided to come here with my family for brunch prior to going to Chuck E Cheese. The service was a bit slow, but it seemed like the restaurant was slightly understaffed. Hong Kong Cafe is renovated with a 70s Hong Kong vibe, as well as a diner vibe, which was super nice. We shared two breakfast entrees and one lunch entree. One breakfast entree was the thousand year old egg congee which was quite flavorful. It came with a solid side of soy sauce chow mein. I also got the spam and egg sandwich with fries and also a side of rice noodle soup with ham. The noodle soup was ok but I loved the sandwich and the generous portion of fries. For the lunch entree we got the stir fried seafood ho fun which was quite tasty, and again a generous portion. The service was slow but the portions were generous, so overall it was a solid HK cafe. read more
Well the food is a lot better now. I would say their hk style noodles and pork ribs are quite good. Rice dishes are typically also very good. The drinks are all very nice but still a bit overpriced on the weekends. Service is fine and the restaurant is pretty clean as well!!! I come here when I need a quick meal read more

Though I've never been to Hong Kong, eating here at this amazing cafe makes me feel as though I had travelled the streets of TST. The ambiance takes you there. The service was quite quick and attentive. And the food was unbelievable! We ordered the mapo tofu discuss, #41: baked pork chop with rice and cream sauce, #32: curry chicken and the #50: wagyu beef fried rice with fried egg. Everything was prepared to perfection. I can only imagine the wonderful wok technique of the chef in the kitchen. For so much great tasting dishes to choose from and at such great prices I can see myself come back here again and again. read more
FINALLY a cute Hong Kong style cafe in the area!!! There's another HK cafe in Monterey Park that's a bit bigger, but this one is just as cute! Food and drinks are average to good, but the ambiance is what's going to bring me back. LOVE that mahjong tilled wall!!! Dinner after having fun at Chuck E. Cheese cause they are in the same plaza. The food is delicious, everything is fresh and very tasty. I would say it's the same like their other branch in Walnut. Our favorite is the shrimp and egg chow fun, chicken steak, and salt & pepper calamari. The Hong Kong milk tea is authentic and strong. Definitely should try it. I also love their plates and bowl designs. Very unique and makes you feel like you are dining in Hong Kong!! The down side is the wait. We approximately waited for an hour just for the table of 4. The space is not big but plenty of space. The place is clean and the service is fast. The server is nice and helpful. The price is also considered cheap with the amount of food that we got!! Another solid Cantonese restaurant/cafe in the area with an extensive menu. We came for the after noon tea and we enjoyed it. The portions are huge! I think this was the largest Hainan chicken I've ever gotten. The taste and quality was great too. The seating is comfortable and the inside is decorated with nostalgic Hong Kong vibes. read more

Got the duck egg and pork congee - was surprised that the pork was shredded instead of pieces. I kind of would prefer pieces, but other than that, the congee was great. A huge portion and delicious. Also got wonton noodles which was super comforting and solid. Loved the inside decor and ambiance super cute and clean. It took a little while for the food to come out but it was also really busy. But other than that, service was great! read more
