Came here to get some work done for ~2 hours and eat some comfort food, I wasn't bothered for having a laptop although it is a bit noisy because most people are there eating normally. The service was ok, you have to wave them down if you want anything, it took about 20 minutes for me to get my food, though the drink came earlier. The hong kong coffee did not really taste like hong kong coffee to me, it was very watery with a hint of the hong kong coffee taste. The eggs buns were ok, and the sticky rice was not bad. We stopped by for lunch and shared a few dishes: Pork chop pineapple bun: the pork chop was much smaller than the bun, which threw off the ratio. Steamed BBQ pork buns: pretty standard dim sum. Rice rolls: these were a highlight. I liked the variety of sauces, and they were slightly pan-fried. Mapo spinach pasta: a bit too spicy for my taste. The parking lot is huge, so there's definitely no issue there. I would give this restaurant an overall 3.5 stars. 4 stars for the food; 2.5 stars for service. I ordered two dishes: (1) pork chops and (2) baked sole with white sauce over fried rice. When the entrees came, we started eating and didn't realized they gave us chicken instead of pork chops until we already sliced up the meat and took a bite. So we decided to just keep the dish instead of returning it. The food tasted good. It is not exceptional. It tasted as expected. A solid 4 stars for the food. We also ordered one hot lemon tea and one iced Lemon tea with our meal. Unlike many Hong Kong style cafes which includes hot coffee or tea with an entree, this restaurant charges additional fee for the drinks. The drinks tasted fine, as expected. It would be pretty tough to mess up tea with lemon. The service staff were not particularly friendly. They looked like they were not happy to be there. Honestly service can be better but it does its job and for the most part the food is pretty good. With that said, I came here this week on a Tuesday night and the guy's service was definitely a lot better than the ones I've seen for breakfast. While Hong Kong Cafe isn't my GO TO spot, my Singaporean Style Sauteed Vermicelli always does it job and its a big plate of food. If the service is at least the level of the guy, I prob would come back a little more often. For the most part, I haven't really had any bad dishes too and that speaks for breakfast as well. Using that as a guide, I assumed the rest of the dishes were going to be well done. And they were. Quick but delicious for all the dishes we ordered. The ribs were a bit salty, but great with white rice. The chow fun was delicately lovely and not too oily. My dad doesn't normally like sweet and sour anything and I was surprised he chose the dish, maybe because my mom likes those. He even praised that dish. Amazing. This is the best Hong Kong restaurant I've tried. One of things that really sets it apart is the feeling of being in Hong Kong with the retro neon signs. They also play music videos from HK. The place I would imagine for those from HK gives a home away home feel. HK cafe has a great selection of drinks. I think had a passion fruit tea and it was great. Food wise I like the shareable plates at affordable price. I also got the spam and egg sandwich with fries and also a side of rice noodle soup with ham. The noodle soup was ok but I loved the sandwich and the generous portion of fries. Service was not the quickest and obviously seemed a little understaffed which should add to the authenticity? Service attitude was good. Both times I've gone they were fairly busy but still decent service. Wait time was a little longer on the weekend but it's not something they can control. Hong Kong Milk Tea tasted fairly good, probably one of the best I've had in a few years. Beef tongue is a must get every time. Curry fishballs were pretty good but definitely on the heavier side. Everything else was normal. The environment was very nostalgic in a sense.. a lot of the decorations definitely brought back childhood memories. I'd be lying if I said this place is just like the cafés in Hong Kong--or even the Cantonese cafés at their prime in Alhambra or San Gabriel back in the 2000s. They have the basics: sandwiches, pasta, a few fusion plates. But much of it feels like copies--more Taiwanese-American takes than the true spirit of an HK café. The menu falls short. It doesn't bring back the good old memories. That said, I'm proud of the Hong Kong café culture. It's a unique blend of East and West, with its own rhythm and its signature HK milk tea. I want this place to live up to that heritage. The food here is okay. Some dishes lean authentic, but none are memorable. After COVID, too many cafés have disappeared.
