I've been coming here for most of my life and honestly it's a local gem, IYKYK. Now, I understand that everyone has their preferred Chinese food spot and everyone's experience is unique, but I honestly love this spot. It's a family owned restaurant and the food is comforting. I come here especially for one dish: Crispy Garlic Fish! It's perfectly light and crispy and is cooked in this addicting garlic sauce with diced onions and jalapeños for a little kick. I also enjoy their Cream Cheese Wontons! Service is generally quick and the owner is usually pretty nice when I go! This is easily one of my favorite places to support in the area. Went at about 7:45 last night and got a tiny portion. Usually split a plate with my gf at other locations and tried this one and we were shocked at the portion size. We got 6 small pieces of orange chicken, 8 pieces of beef in the beef and broccoli and they were even incredibly light on the chowmein and rice. I didn't want to make the Uber driver wait, so I called ahead to inquire about ordering. First off, they have zero phone etiquette. I understand the language barrier, but there could be a little more effort when in the service industry. I finally concluded that I could just walk in and get my food right away. Then I saw where this place was located and became a little suspicious of the quality. I walked in and there were some small tables to sit at, but it was basically a hole in the wall, in a strip mall building. The food was already prepared and ready to be plated. There were sufficient options and they looked well sauced and tasty enough to go ahead and order something. It was relatively cheap for the amount of food I got! Which is always nice, especially these days! I like my food spicy, so I asked for extra chili garlic oil. The Kung Pao Chicken was spicy, but could have been spicier for my taste. The bbq pork was meaty and cooked well, not chewy. And the chow mein was kinda bland, but I made do. All in all, I'd have to say it was exactly what I expected. Not as quality as a sit down restaurant, but quick, cheap, and filling to say the least. I wouldn't be against going back if I needed something quick. The "Orange Chicken" isn't even Orange Chicken - It's more of a House Special Chicken with no hint of any orange nor citrus at all. The BBQ Pork is not supposed to be flush red, even if it's been soaking in red liquid for long periods of time. The potatoes are a plus though, nice change up from the simple rice or chow mein. The shopper center that it's in is a little shabby, at least there's plenty of parking. Inside my favorite feature is the giant aquarium, fish are super cool! My family and I are very busy people and we're constantly on the go. We usually eat a lot of Chinese take out and other speedy restaurant. This is by far the best Chinese food I've had. My family loves it, and it's everything we're looking for: quick, large portions, reasonable pricing, and delicious. Personal and family favorites are the garlic chicken, chow-main and Mongolian beef. It's in a small plaza with shared parking, so finding a spot is never an issue for us. A very nice lady works the front and she's very hard working; as every time I visit she's always there (day or night, weekend, weekday). I'm guessing she works 7 days a week. Hate to drop a 2 star on a Hong Kong express but I'd say that 2 stars is generous. The lady was smiling and wasn't rude or anything like some of the reviews mention but the food wasn't anything compared to the Hong Kong express on Lewis and Chapman in orange which is 5 stars compared to this spot. I went around 3/4 pm so I assume the food was maybe just old and sitting since lunch time.I was also the only one in the shop and every time I pass by it has no one in it which sort of says something. The food lacked flavor and just sort of tasted stale. Fried rice wasn't that good that is what was mainly stale I ordered kung pao chicken which just tasted spicy and no other flavor. I was looking for a steamer tray style Chinese food place in Anaheim. I personally am not a fan of the chain style Panda Express or Pick up Stix. My friend recommended me to Ho-Toy's because her friend's parents own the place. Unfortunately, I would rather eat at Panda Express than eat at Ho Toy's so I had to keep looking. Searching through yelp, and google maps, I found Hong Kong Express. It's located in a small strip mall just south of Angelo's Burgers. There's a laundromat and a Little Caesar's Pizza in the same area. It's pretty easy to find. Entering Hong Kong Express, the steamer trays greet you with a great smell. They have the normal selection of steamed rice, fried rice, or chow mein. Their entrees are just like any other typical steamer place, however, their flavorings are better than other steamers I've been to in Anaheim. My normal is to get all chow mein, and some type of chicken entree. They definitely load up on the food and give a hefty portion just like every other steamer tray restaurant. This is my norm for steamer try places. I always get my order to go, but there are maybe 6 tables that seat 4-6 people. It's quiet, since there aren't many people here. The lady behind the counter is kind, and friendly. A single entree is under $6, and the quality is better than any others I've been to in Anaheim. This place is cash only. read more
