I used to come here often when I lived down the street nearly 15 years ago. LOVED IT. Reading some of these reviews had me hesitant to go back. Now I work close by and was craving Chinese food and decided to give it another go, despite the negative reviews. VERY PLEASED! Service was fast and friendly. I ordered the 2 item combo with BBQ Pork and Mushroom Chicken. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Portions so big that I only ate 1/4 and have an abundance of leftovers! BBQ pork is really easy to screw up and I knew I was taking a risk. That paid off because the meat was tender and juicy, not hard and dried out like so many other places serve. Mushroom Chicken? Just look at those beautiful shrooms in my photos! The zucchini was perfect, chicken perfect. Posting this for other folks who are judging by the negative reviews. Fact is they couldn't still be in business after decades if the food was that bad. Great food, great deal. Much better than Panda! Sad thing is that this shopping center has gone severely down hill. The exterior of the entire lot is filthy. That's not the fault of Hong Kong Express. Larry's Pizza next door is also a decades old establishment with great food, but outside is filthy from vagrants. Service wasn't too welcoming. I walked in and who seemed like the owners just stared at me as I walked up to order. I got the teriyaki chicken alongside the honey chicken which is super delicious. The food itself was really filling enriched with tasty sauces. Paid a little over $10 and had leftovers so pricing was good for the quantity you receive. Pretty good! Sometimes, a girl just craves some Chinese fast food and I used to go to another Hong Kong Express near The Outlets at Orange, so I'm not sure if this location is related to all the other ones, but it's still yummy! $6.99 for a two-item combo, and they give you a lot! I got 2 meals out of it :) Chow mein was not greasy, orange chicken had good flavor and the kung pao chicken had yummy crunchy pieces of water chestnut and celery. Parking is easy and they have a lot of entree options. They do take credit card but it's a $3 minimum and extra 30 cents charge. Would def come back! read more

I was in the mood for Chinese takeout so I went back again. A two item combo is $9.99. Don't expect 2 meals out of that. They use the smaller container so all the food gets mixed together. The food is tasteless and gummy and they use the lowest quality protein possible. It's edible but I'm not going back. They don't really seem to care too much. The service was absolutely horrendous. They growl and make strange faces at you. Really weird. The final total when it was time to pay was about $1 too high. I was doing some basic math in my head. When they saw that I was about to question the price, they entered a reduction in the register and charged me the correct price. I think maybe they expected me to use a credit card and when I start to hand them cash they removed the credit card fee. I can't see myself going back. I use to come to this place all the time because they would give you lots of food for a good price. They also had the best chow mein because they had the THICK noodles which i always loved. I haven't came in a year and today was my first time back. Needless to say everything has changed! Same workers though. We were in the search for some "cheap" Chinese food again, HKE did not disappoint! Restaurant: Like most fast food Chinese restaurants, there is a front counter with food behind glass waiting for you to order. This Hong Kong Express has about 12-15 items that you can choose from. After ordering you get your food and sit down. We came around 8:15pm and there was only one table available. I have heard from others that it is a pretty popular location so make sure you come with that in mind. There is ample parking as this location is in a mid-sized shopping center that includes a large grocery store. Food: We ordered two plates: one with chow mein, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken and bbq pork. The other plate consisted of chow mein, honey chicken and beef with broccoli. The good stuff: orange chicken, bbq pork and honey chicken. The beef with broccoli was super super chewy and they refry the sweet and sour chicken so it came out crispy (not my fave). The chow mein was above average, which is kind of nice as I've had some pretty bad ones along the way. Notes: At night, the area is kind of shady, just an fyi. I will be back, and probably try some other dishes. This might be our go-to "cheap" Chinese spot. read more

The Salt n Pepper fish was hard and crunchy in the worst way possible, the only flavor to be had was one of burnt oil. The egg roll was less edible than the ones in Jack in the box, which is barely edible itself. Two stars just because they're complying with covid regulations well enough and the texture and bite of the chow mein actually wasn't bad. It's ok. Orange Chicken: it does the job. It's ok. Salt & Pepper fish: I'd order this next time! Not greasy, light and crispy and tastes good with siracha or chili paste. Egg rolls: Mushy Rice: steamed and sticky but not too sticky, which I prefer. Chow Mein: tastes how it should. We ordered the chow mein, steamed rice, Mongolian pork, orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, green bean with chicken, and salt and pepper fish. Everything was delicious, but our favorite was the salt and pepper fish. The only thing was it was hard to communicate on the phone, so I went there myself to point out which ones I wanted to order. A good tip is also to pay right when you order instead of paying when you pick up (save your receipt) so the day of the party they will just have the food ready for you and you won't have to stand in line to pay. I wasn't expecting much considering this is Asian fast food, but this place was disappointing even for that. I walked in and stood at the counter, while the lady behind the counter, sat there on her phone and didn't even greet me. She finally stood up and looked at me, essentially asking what it was. I wanted without actually saying a thing. I ordered a combination platter with chow mein and orange chicken. I ordered a side of two eggrolls. Nothing was hot. And the chicken was chewy and stale tasting. I got no smile or friendly attitude from the worker. I hate it when people take a job willingly and then have a piss poor attitude. No one made you take that job. Just because you're getting paid a minimum wage doesn't mean you're rude to customers that are giving you their money.
