Love the chow mein and the hot wings and spicy orange chicken been going here for almost 20 years

I have been coming here for years. Maybe 20 yrs. I had seen a shift some years ago and asked about it. I was told it was new owners. They didn't give the portion size they used to and the prices had gone up. But the quality is going down. Last time most of it wasn't edible. I decided to give it another try today but it wasn't good at all. The food tasted old. Like it had been sitting there. The chow mein is only noodle now, it used to have some cabbage and other things but now it's chewy noodles with no flavor. The bbq pork was like beef jerky. The orange chicken was dry and hard. It tastes like microwaved food that has been sitting out. And the prices are much higher, they don't match what you get either. This place seems to not care about the customers anymore and just the money. It's sad we have come here every Christmas Eve since before my now adult children were in school. It was a tradition. Prepare to be nickled and dimed to death. Asked for an extra plate, charge = 25 cents. Asked for cup of water... only if I paid cash not credit. People were abrupt and rude. Afraid to ask for extra fork or more napkins! They lost my business forever. How shortsighted. read more

I had not been here for years and this Monday 01/26/26 I go to get a combo. First of all the food is old and taste like oil. And secondly these people took my credit card information and made 2 additional transactions one on the 27th and another one today the 28th. Called my bank ASAP cause there's no way I went back for their musty food. The transactions are being disputed and when I called the joint, the lady was speaking fluent English but as soon as I asked her why they are charging people for plates they didn't purchase, she hit me with the "hero no speaka english" how fucking convenient... should've just stayed away from this place now I remember why it's always empty. read more

I stopped by to go to the chicken sandwich restaurant next door but they were closed. I ended up ordering a one item combo with the usual chow mein, fried rice, and one of my favorites orange chicken. They give you a good amount of food. Do not come here, I ordered my food and sat down to eat it and saw a rat, I screamed and the workers just looked at me and I said there's a rat not sure if they understand me but I explained again and they said no no no so obviously I wasn't gonna eat the food anymore and asked for a refund they didn't want to give it to me so I just threw my food away. I ordered the Fried Rice, BBQ Pork and Spicy Orange Chicken on a busy Friday night. Fried rice was well cooked but felt that was a little on the softer side, as I prefer more time on the wok for slightly harder rice, as for flavor it needed more egg and a little more salt. Other than that fried rice was overall meeting my expectations. The BBQ Pork piece I got was on the leaner side, flavor was also on the light side. I wish they included char siu sauce on top. My pork was well cooked and not dry at all. Spicy orange chicken was spot on, good spice level and strong orange flavor. I did not get a fresh batch but mine was a little soft but I imagine their orange chicken is crispier when made to order. Overall next time I would ask for a fatter piece of BBQ pork with sauce. Owners should carefully adjust the fried rice for more egg and spice. HK Express is about 80% on par with Panda Express, good value for their prices. read more

Not bad! Great, quick Chinese option for work lunch. They have a pretty good variety of entrees to choose from. For $11, I got chow mein, orange chicken, and shrimp and broccoli. Really filling and was able to stretch it to 2 meals. Hits the spot and glad this is nearby. Even during the lunch rush, it goes by fairly quickly. read more

I've been coming here for years ( I work up the street). Definitely one of my favorites ( its not a restaurant- it's a Deli!). It's been 5 1/2 years since I reviewed this fast food establishment: They FINALLY improved their quality of cooking, their fried rice is No longer mushy as it used to be back in 2016 and their bbq pork is cooked well-done..... I hope this place continues making their fried rice with restaurant quality and making sure their bbq pork is WELL-DONE.... Such bad quality tasting food, I ordered chicken teriyaki, orange chicken and rice, it all tasted very old and bland, like it had been sitting there all day. Secondly, the service is so bad, lady was very rude that I asked for hot sauce and eventually gave it to me with a very upset face. She also got upset that I didn't want any noodles lol. Not sure how someone can be rude to their customers, specially if they own the restaurant.. Panda Express is better by far, there is one across the street in case you are wondering. Went there yesterday 4/11/22 around 5pm.. Never been there it was my 1st time.. my son wanted chowmein since the longest so since I was nearby.. The food here is unbeatable for taste, value and speed. The lady upfront is so kind and is willing to help you out if you're unsure what to eat. Although it doesn't look like much on the outside I can say for sure the inside makes up for it. It's a very low-key spot for sure but for students that need a quick delicious meal this is the place. Don't walk but RUN to this place because the food for price to taste ratio it's definitely the best around the Whittier area. I was in the mood for chow-mein and I was in the area. I noticed there was a line and I always know when there is a line that means that the food is fresh and constantly coming out, I know it's not sitting there for a while. So I went over and I noticed the floors were cleaned and the food looked fresh. I decided to get the 3 item combo for $ 8.70 I got chow mein, beef and broccoli, orange chicken and teriyaki chicken. I like how they were not stingy with the food and really packed my bowl. The food was super yummy and fresh, it for sure fulfilled my Chinese food craving, will be coming again. I usually don't write reviews of any sort, and I'm no doctor, but I suspect that I got food poisoning from this place. I ordered the orange chicken, chow mein, and fried rice. The food itself was quite bland and had a strange flavor. Sure enough, I was profusely vomiting 3 hours later with a migraine on top of it. I kept vomiting for an hour while being nauseous in between. I write this as a warning to both the business and consumers to really be weary of cross-contamination. This is the only Chinese fast food restaurant my family and I come to. When we have that Chinese food craving, we come here. We really like that the food is almost always fresh because a lot of people come and go specially during lunch and dinner hours. The ladies that serve your plates always pack your plate with food so you're getting your money's worth. Down side of this place is the soda machine. I always ask for a cup for water and the water always taste worse than tap. They really need to replace the filter on that machine. read more
