A local gem for a reason! Canton City has been around since 1958 and this weekend I found out why! Was satisfied with every dish. We also ordered a LOT of food for just a table of 4. Happy to have leftovers though! (Some dishes not pictured). ALSO, one of the few places to still have crispy noodles with sauces as a little appetizer for the table! We ordered Mongolian beef, hot and sour soup, vegetable lo mien, fried rice, crispy walnut shrimp, egg rolls (vegetable & chicken), hot tea. We even ordered some almond cookies to go! And a nice surprise is that they give you one with your check. Our server was on it. He explained a little history to us and when we asked questions about how long the restaurant has been here and what's good to order, he was happy to answer. The place was busy and full on a Sunday afternoon. Not a reservation type of place and just a good mom and pop spot to get some quality/authentic Chinese. It's also one of the few spots that still makes "egg foo young" so we had to try it! Love the fluffy texture on the inside and the crisp like a burger on the outside. Ambiance is locals and bustling but also casual and home-y, which I loved cause the food speaks for itself and I felt comfortable right away.

Service is always great employee's are all so kind. Food is always so good. I had a pretty big order & they got it out fast & hot & some items on the house, which is always nice.

I've been coming to this place since I was a kid. The food is out of this world and the staff is always so warm and welcoming. The place is always spotless and the I love coming here with my family. Would recommend to anyone looking for some comfort food.

It's pretty close by but also the quality of food is pretty good for how inexpensive the lunch specials are. You have to pay for the drinks, but so far I haven't seem a limit on the refill (I typically refill only once though but I've also been able to take the drink togo). I would recommend getting the salt and pepper pork chop - my dad says this is literally better than most places we've gone to. I think they season the batter, which is how its so flavorful. We also typically get the eggplant, which comes in a huge plate and comes with rice. My dad likes their curry but I'm not super excited about it. Its good, but not exciting, if you know what I mean. Service is typically pretty good. They move around pretty quickly and food typically comes out pretty quickly too. I would spend about 50-60 dollars and its enough food to last two people maybe an additional 2 or 3 meals, especially since most dishes come with a dish of white rice. The rice isn't great, like it's kind of dry, but its free so no complaints here.

The last few times I've ordered the kung pao chicken, it barely had any veggies. It used to come with a mix of colorful bell peppers, but now it's mostly onions. The sweet and sour fish used to be lightly battered and nice and meaty. On my last visit, it was heavily battered and you could barely taste the fish. I'm not sure if they changed chefs, but the difference in quality is definitely noticeable. It's disappointing because I really like the staff. They're always friendly and provide great service. I'm hoping the food goes back to how it used to be.

Their new breakfast special includes congee, a dim sum item, a side, and a drink. I do like that there are now more options for the breakfast sides. Unfortunately, the congee tastes different now. This used to be my favorite spot for pork and black egg congee, but my last order was watery and bland instead of thick and flavorful like before. I did enjoy the pork siumai and shrimp spring roll from the dim sum selection. I also tried the pineapple bun, but I expected it to be softer and more moist. The portion was also pretty small. I like that most of their drinks can be ordered unsweetened, but they only offer Sweet'N Low instead of Stevia or Splenda. I also recently tried the kung pao chicken and didn't enjoy it. The sauce didn't taste like traditional kung pao sauce, and the dish had very few vegetables and mostly onions. It's unfortunate because the food quality and flavor don't seem as good as they used to be.

It's pretty good here and they have complimentary refills! They're known for their rice noodle rolls here and you can order them, along with their small dim sum menu, all day long. OBVIOULSY, I and was pleasantly surprised by how well everything was prepared. The drinks were excellent...especially the Iced Tea and Hong Kong Coffee Milk Tea. I really appreciated that neither drink was overly sweet, allowing the tea and coffee flavors to shine through. One detail that stood out was how thoughtfully the food was served because the sauce for the fish and walnut shrimp was kept separate instead of being poured over the dishes. This helped maintain the texture and prevented everything from getting soggy before it reached the table. The pork we ordered was tender, flavorful, and most importantly, not greasy or overly salted. The skin wasn't hard ans overly crunchy. The crunch was light. My favorite dish of the meal was the string beans with ground meat. The beans were cooked just right with plenty of flavor, making it the standout dish for me. The staff were also wonderful throughout the meal. They were polite, attentive, and quick to help whenever needed. Great service paired with well-executed food made for an enjoyable dining experience. I would definitely come back again.

I came with a large group of 7 adults and 4 kids on a very busy night, with a crowd waiting outside the restaurant. Despite how packed it was, service moved steadily and dishes came out in a timely manner. Most of the food felt very homey -- the kind of comforting dishes that reminded me of meals my grandmother used to make. That first visit was pleasant enough that I decided to bring my dad back specifically to try their signature Vietnamese lobster dish. Unfortunately, the second visit turned out to be disappointing. We intentionally came for lunch to avoid the dinner rush and were seated within 5 minutes. The restaurant was only about 75% occupied. Drinks arrived quickly, and we ordered salt and pepper tiger shrimp, green beans, and the house special lobster with an extra order of e-mein noodles on the side. Our server briefly returned with a live lobster in a metal bowl, mumbled "4 pounds," and walked away. A few minutes later, the shrimp and green beans arrived along with rice. We ate, waited, and continued waiting. By the time we had completely finished the two dishes -- probably about 25 minutes later -- nobody had checked on us, updated us about the lobster dish, or even acknowledged the delay. We finally flagged down another staff member and asked for the check because at that point the lobster still had not arrived and we were ready to leave. We asked if the lobster could simply be removed from the bill, but were told it was already being prepared. Ironically, the lobster dish finally appeared moments later, the e-mein noodle followed a few minutes later. For what is marketed as their signature dish, the lobster itself was honestly not very memorable. The preparation with green onion and basil was interesting since it was our first time trying lobster this way, but neither the flavor nor the presentation justified the long wait (if that's what it was or just an oversight in the kitchen) or elevated expectations. What stood out more than the food was the lack of service and communication. Delays happen, especially at busy restaurants, but a quick check-in or update would have made a big difference. The restaurant also automatically adds a 12% service charge to the bill. While automatic gratuities are becoming more common, and in this case, I even added extra just to bring the tip up to 15%. With that expectation, there should also be a basic level of attentiveness and customer service. Overall, the food and service felt comparable to a typical Chinese comfort-food restaurant like Sam Woo, satisfying enough for a casual meal, but not particularly memorable considering the Michelin Guide recognition and pricing. Personally, the experience did not justify a return visit. I'd rather go to places like Lunasia or Kim Tar Seafood, where the overall experience feels more polished and consistent with the price point.
