The free egg foo young was an awesome bonus and a nice touch that you don't see very often. A local gem for a reason! Canton City has been around since 1958 and this weekend I found out why! Was satisfied with every dish. We also ordered a LOT of food for just a table of 4. Happy to have leftovers though! (Some dishes not pictured). ALSO, one of the few places to still have crispy noodles with sauces as a little appetizer for the table! We ordered Mongolian beef, hot and sour soup, vegetable lo mien, fried rice, crispy walnut shrimp, egg rolls (vegetable & chicken), hot tea. We even ordered some almond cookies to go! And a nice surprise is that they give you one with your check. Our server was on it. He explained a little history to us and when we asked questions about how long the restaurant has been here and what's good to order, he was happy to answer. No hate. My family and I have been coming here for about 20+ years. Still have the same charm, even thought Aunty is now retired. The Pros: Service. We have never had bad service, not sure if it was meant to be passed on to the younger generation that now runs the place, but always welcoming always smiling. This is a middle of the road good old Chinese American food spot. I mean old school. Same recipes, still serving egg drop soul and crispy fried noodles with mustard/ketchup before your meal, and complimentary Tea. That being said, if you grew up eating this style of american chinese food you will love it. This is def not Panda Express personal servings, its family style dining with plates to share. Our usual order is Kung Pao chicken, mongolian beef and chicken fried rice. Their sauces are old school, very runny and doesnt stick to the protein very well. I pass on the orange chicken, orange sauce is super sweet but lacks kick. Also the chicken is never coated properly in the sauce, just lightly tossed. Again very Mid. Not bad, not the best. The food was great and so was the service. Our to go place from now on. Brought back memories of a place we used to go as a child.

We have found a great old school Cantonese restaurant! No wonder it's been around 70 years. We had almond duck, chicken chow fun, egg foo young, string beans and steamed rice. We ate at lunch time and everything was really fresh. My only preference would have been for thinner pieces instead of the cubed shredded duck. We found it all really tasty. Service was quick and very friendly. Old school Far East Cafe (from the early days) and Paul's Kitchen customers will find food reminiscent of that comfort food. Ordered beef and broccoli, walnut shrimp and orange chicken. The staff brought out egg drop soup and wonton(?) sticks after we ordered. The egg drop soup hit the spot as it was a chilly day. Food arrived pretty quickly but it was visual apparent that some of the items were going to miss the mark. The orange chicken had a lot of fried batter, not much chicken, and was barely coated in sauce. Had a couple pieces to see if it got better but it was largely not worth pushing through the batter to finish. The walnut shrimp was overly sweet and did not have the coating found at most chinese restaurants. It wasn't BAD but it tasted a little off, maybe to appeal to more american palated? Beef and broccoli, a classic that is hard to mess up and to Canton City's credit, the dish was fine. Nothing stellar but comfortable execution. Located in the heart of Montebello I can see it's appeal, it is good for where it is. But in a similar vein, there is incredible chinese food 10 minutes north of here in Monterey Park and I cannot phathom why someone would choose this over the restaurant over there unless they were time/location bound to this specific spot. read more

Arrived at Canton City on a Sunday afternoon around 12:30. The dining room was already pretty busy but we were promptly seated with choices of booths or tables. A friendly young lady came to out table and delivered crispy dried noodles and a dish of red sauce and hot mustard. She took both our drink orders and food order. With in minutes she returned with drinks and cups of delicious egg flower soup. Our food followed shortly after the arrival of the soup. The food was hot and tasty and the portions were substantial. Service was excellent at this establishment as the servers promptly fulfilled our requests. The inside of the building was neat and clean but obviously an older place. I've driven by this place hundreds of times but todays visit was my first. I would definitely return if in the area again. read more

First timer. Ordered fried shrimp, egg roll, chicken chow mein, rice, sweet n sour pork to be delivered. It's the family dinner number 2. Food arrived on time and beautifully packaged. I don't care for styrofoam packaging and prefer the Chinese cartons and this is how it was packaged. They also brought soup, almond cookies and fortune cookies. The taste was incredible. Fresh, flavorful and large portions sauces were yummy. This is my new favorite Chinese food establishment. You will surely be pleased. I haven't been here since before the Pandemic so I had no idea Wendy was gone. It was sad to not see her but had I known I probably wouldn't have stopped by. The food was good. Maybe the portions were smaller but I never ordered anything outside of chow mein, fried rice, and egg rolls. The chow mein was made w/ sprouts instead of noodles. I had my doubts but I ended up loving it. The vegetable fried rice was spot on, but sadly the egg rolls were basic at best. The service wasn't Wendy service, but these people are young. Hopefully it gets better for them. As for the vibe, it was fucken dead. Just and maybe 3 more people outside of the help. Not sure if ill be retuning anytime soon though since I don't live close by anymore. read more

When I called to inform them it was stated to me that next time they would put chives in soup. ????! My family has been coming to this restaurant for over 40 years and used to love it, but now it's clear they've made some changes to how the food is prepared and we're noticing a drop in the food quality. The biggest thing I'll call out is the egg rolls, the recipe is completely changed from how they prepared it before and it's just not good at all.
